I saw the trailer and while I never knew that I would like the new unnamed female character more than a playable Hifumi, I still hope that either the unnamed female character is a female MC choice (like the female protagonist from Persona 3 Portable) and have Hifumi playable or both have the unnamed female character and Hifumi playable (similar to Tales of Vesperia where you both have Flynn and Patty as playable characters).

Even then, DQ has in-game midi soundtracks mostly because Japanese fans like it that way out of tradition, supposedly. People just take issue with him denying Japan's war crimes (as if he had anything to do with them).

But DQVII/VIII had orchestral tracks in Japan and not in the international release? It's not consistently "Japan = Midi; International = Orchestral" - I mean the Switch version of DQXI will now have orchestral songs. I'm sure Nintendo could get the songs if they wanted, but my point was that comparing the Persona IP to the Dragon Quest IP music-wise is silly, as ATLUS doesn't have the same issues of lisencing that Square Enix has/will have.

First, the remaining character rumors, now this. Next thing we know, people will worry about someone filling more than half of the open ID slots by themselves with costumes.

It would be ridiculous to leave people in the dark until the last second, even if 's Crafted World distracts them for a bit. This isn't like with .

If the guy with the otters posts, then we'll know for sure.

The only issue is that previous regular Directs happened on a 13th, when next month's 13th is on a Saturday, so that throws off the usual schedule.

True, but we're already so suspicious of them that I don't know if detailing Joker without showing off 4 of their alternate costumes is really that risky. I don't expect him to release until the end of April, but if they want to do a Direct before Reggie leaves, then they have to do one sooner rather then later...

I wouldn't be too certain on that - even if they don't show any new concrete info at Sega FES, it's always possible they could elaborate a bit on what they've shown. They've said they're talking about the future of Atlus, and there are Persona-related events happening at the show.

So if it turns out that it's an enhanced version of the game, and the girl turns out to be a female protagonist, it's possible they could do something as simple as saying, "Our next Persona 5 project is P5R, an enhanced version which features a brand-new female protagonist!" Or if her and the game turn out to be something different, they could explain what those are. Then it'd be easier for them to be in Smash before we see more - we'd know her basic role, and so her being an alternate costume would make sense.

And like Hinata mentioned, it's always possible that she isn't even in Smash, after all! I agree that Joker will probably come at the end of April, but we can't say for sure just yet!

Well we pretty much know the new girl is an alt. Smash can't show her in phantom thieves gear with a persona before Atlus does. And Atlus isn't showing more of P5R until April 24th. So I would assume they'll hold Joker off until then, ergo last week of April.

Edit: I guess it's possible Jane was planned and then scrapped. She was only found in the junk code, so we don't know for sure where the data actually comes from or if it's being used. Maybe they were going to use her, but then found out she wouldn't work as an alt for some reason or that her announcement from Atlus wouldn't work with their schedule.

I feel like Smash Brothers is a big enough platform that they could be chosen to reveal a new Phantom Thief before the concert, but it would also definitely knock the wind out of the concert's sails slightly, as they would have a bit less to reveal there... That's a Nintendo and an ATLUS choice though.

The fact that they also knew and worked with her at all makes me wonder how much legal work was put into this, considering that is some pretty big knowledge and advertising power to have outside of Atlus itself.

I'd be shocked too, but I don't think it is impossible. I think it is definitely possible we'll get gameplay before the 24th though, just without showing any costumes... All assuming, of course, Jane is a thing.

I think Atlus would respect Smash showing the alt off early because they trust Sakurai's vision that much.

This is the same man that was allowed by Sega to completely vaporize onscreen , after all.

Also, there's the risk of the 24th's announcement just moving the Royal reveal goalpost again, and that can't be affordable.

I doubt this would be the case. I was just spitballing. But there can be changes late in development that don't affect much. They could easily have given her a different weapon or something and not altered gameplay at all. It would only really matter in smash. I don't think something like that happened. I'm just saying it's possible. I'm still convinced we'll be getting Joker and Jane after the 24th.

2. I literally just found out about the whole Jane thing this morning when I was looking up a guide for P5, since I started replaying it recently. Hype. Whatever her role is (praying it's FeMC), more characters are always a good thing in Persona. Also, here's hoping she has glasses.

3. She might be an alt in Smash? Hnnng. Here's hoping we can finally romance the guys in P5R. Heck, let Joker also do it this time around. In fact, make them both bi.

I just have to say...
1. I couldn't agree more. It was one of the first things I pointed out when I saw that her name was Jane.
2. The Persona community as a whole didn't really talk about it until Jane was formally revealed. Now it's being brought up everywhere.
3.We can only hope.
4. While I wouldn't say I am disappointed, I do think that some characters should have gotten more appreciation on the poll.

I also find it hilarious how you "conveniently" skipped over Ohya.

Because of how sakurai and his team do things, I don't think they make all that many changes to what they planned after they've decided to go with something. They probably had a plan in mind already with atlus, and took all this time to make it a reality. It wouldn't surprise me if it's because of all this and the timeline on reveals that we dont have more joker info and gameplay yet.

I do hope we get them sooner in the month, but i think it's well worth it even if we have to wait later (after the 24th).
