Shulk however can hold on his own better then Wii Fit Trainer, due to him actually having any support and having more apparent capabilities.
I agree more people would be excited compared to Wii Fit Trainer because more people are an actual fan of Xenoblade/Shulk, but I don't think his moveset potential factors in.

If anything, the fact that no one could've seen how she'd work is what helped her generate a good deal of interest when people saw what she could do. Regardless, I think he's perfect for E3 since a good deal of people would still not know who he is, especially here in NA.

Why does everyone assume that they'll be shown at all and won't be hidden characters?
Right now we're just specifically on the topic of E3 as a way to disprove/prove the leak, so it makes sense to discuss.

But yeah, for the same reason that he'd be good E3 reveal, he would also be a good secret character.

Remember this from the end of the first X trailer?
2014-04-11-22-27-45-1.jpg

This is obviously (in my opinion) hinting at Shulk related stuff in the new X game. Just the way he's cloaked in the shadow is a tease to fans of the Wii game.

That trailer was over a year ago, and we haven't heard about him since. If were to be in X I think I could see a dual Smash Bros./ X reveal at E3. It would promote X, which could be one Nintendo's biggest games of the year.

He would also be a perfect secret character for both games, so it could go either way.

I can see that character in X be Shulk indeed. I am honestly really hoping he is Shulk so that people can stop saying that, "He is a one-off! He isn't going to come back! Xenoblade is a one-time thing! Shulk shouldn't be in Smash for that reason!" Of course, there will still be people who would hold onto this argument.

If Shulk gets in Smash, it would be on his own merits rather than to promote X in my opinion. I just hope that he gets his own true trailer rather than what Villager got at E3; I want Shulk's trailer to focus in on Shulk rather than the game with maybe a few seconds of Shulk in action at the end.

...I want that in general. Just the idea of seeing the Monado power up in the Smash trailer, and for They Will Know Our Names to start playing along with it, before all hell broke lose, would be amazing.

I can see E3. I'm kinda assuming all the characters in the leak are secret though. Marshal "Chorus Men" surely is, like ROB/GW.

Then again, things are seeming a little different this time.

Especially with 4 Pokemon, Toon Link, and 5 Mario reps already announced, it is a question of whether secret characters will even be a thing this time.

That would be a great trailer theme. Riki's Theme would also make for epic trailer music if I do say so myself.

That...would be ****ing hilarious! Although...would definitely not lend itself to super hype. But dat Riki.

Seriously though. TWKON is like, the best hype-building song, mostly because of how it builds. Yeah man.

Confrontation/Engage the Enemy and One Who Stands in our Way are pretty great too, but they're not trailer material. That one would be perfect.

Also, I mastered a Riki impression quite a while back... sadly enough. Me and my brother were trying to do Dobby voices and my inner Riki came out XD Not one of my finer accomplishments in life.

I still personally believe the figure shown at the end of X's debut trailer is Shulk, and if not, someone else who merits some relation to him in some way (perhaps a possible child of Shulk and Fiora? It could be plausible as X appears as if it is some time ahead of Xenoblade Chronicles, assuming they are related games). I can't imagine why they would show off a random figure enshrouded partially by shadow with similar facial features to the protagonist of their previous title, but then again, we do really know little about X to begin with. . .

While I feel as if Shulk is a strong enough character to merit a reveal without the promotion of X, if it is manageable, I'd like to believe that that would be the intelligent option for them to choose. It's very possible Shulk could end up a secret character come SSB4's release, but as of right now, us supporters should look towards E3 beforehand, because that's our nearest most justifiable expectancy for a reveal.

If it was a problem being a one-off character, then why did Ness get into Smash 64? Why did Lucas get into Brawl? Why is Sheik still in Smash? All of them are characters who were only in one game when they debuted. Xenoblade is clearly going to become a series for Nintendo now (at least gameplay wise) so it's not like Shulk would be your typical "one-off".

Granted, not all characters can get away with the "one off" thing. Zant, Ghirahim and Midna, for example, would not fit in that way because of Zelda being the large series it is, with such a strong cast.

It's hard to explain. But it makes sense to me lol.

Plus with Zelda there's always a new flavour of the month character. Ghirahim will soon be old news.

If you're going to have flavour of the month characters they should at least be primary protagonists and not sidekicks or villains.

I figure Shulk sidesteps all of that though, he's like the Marth of his franchise.

On the topic of the mysterious face at the end of the first X trailer, I noticed this:
2014-04-12-11-41-52-1.jpg

In this particular scene, the main character is wearing some sort of gear that he doesn't have in other scenes. He has a black collar and orange shoulder pads.

If you look at 0:42 in this video, you'll see it: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KHYtvOP8AMY

If you look at the mysterious figure at the end of the trailer, the one who looks like Shulk you can see that he also has orange shoulder pads and a black collar.

Am I just looking too much into this? I did some basic photo editing olon the picture with the mysterious face and removed the shadows. It's much easier to see. I'll include the picture with my next post.

And yeah, Shulk is more similar to Ness than characters like Ghirahim or Midna.

Zelda moves pretty fast, since it seems like Ghirahim's already been replaced by Yuga.

Shulk definitely isn't your typical one-off though, since he's the only true rep of a series not yet represented. Lucas didnt even have that.

I am honestly concerned with Shulk's chances in future Smash Bros. if he remains a one-off. In the year 2020 Shulk will be significantly less relevant than he is now if Xenoblade remains his only game.

Also, this:
IMG_20140412_114833-1.jpg

His hair is shorter than Shulk's on the side. But I suppose a haircut is not out of the question.

Shulk would have the benefit of actually being in smash Bros (possibly becoming a fan favourite) at that point though and would have a unique moveset.

Just ask Jigglypuff.

Yeah quite frankly the only characters in danger AT the most according to current trends are unusual 3rd parties, transformations (why would Shulk have one?) and more unimportant mega-clones (characters like Roy, which there really aren't anymore.)

Hmm... I'm starting to think that this is Shulk.

That character doesn't have the red jacket that Shulk has, but his facial features look a lot like Shulk.

His nose, eyebrows, mouth, head shape, and nose look remarkably similar to him. Thanks to you for lighting up that pic, that hair looks like a golden blond hair, much like Shulk's is. His hairstyle is also very similar to Shulk's as well, albeit shorter.
One thing of concern is that their eye color is different; Shulk's eye color is blue while the mysterious character has green eyes.
I believe that this character is either Shulk or is a descendant of Shulk much like Chrom is a descendant of Marth.

While we're on the subject of analyzing the Shulk-look-alike, we should consider that X and Xenoblade have different art styles—which explains the distinction in eye colour—and that the two games were worked by two different character designers. That may be the reason why they look a little different to each other, plus the look-alike isn't graphically polished, either. The fact that half of his face only shows makes him look thinner, too. Maybe someone can copy and paste half of the face to make an entire face? O.o

What enemy do you think Xenoblade could contribute to Smash Run? There's so many possibilities but many of them are quite big.

Some kind of Mechon would be a must but it would be a shame if we didn't get an animalistic enemy too.

I'm thinking: Chilkin/Tirkin, Eks, Bunniv/Bunnia, Hode, Orluga, Torta and Andos are all interesting choices.

When thinking on the topic of enemies from Xenoblade that should be in Smash Run, the Mechon were the enemies that immediately sprang into mind. However, Bunnivs, Armu, Hodes, and the like should be enemies.

Immovable Gonzales :troll:
If we are going to be evil, how about we make the Stormy Belagon an enemy. You touch him and you immediately fall asleep.
(I fought him yesterday and even with Monado Purge, I had a hard time)

Or the Serene Imlaly. You take damage everytime you attack it.
Remember that guy being so damn annoying the first time I played.

I remember...
[collapse=Xenoblade spoiler?]this Telethia in Bionis' Interior and it kept regenerating health. I stopped fighting them and moved on because of how frustrating fighting them was.[/collapse]

There was one that could do that? I haven't played Xeno in a bit so I must have forgotten about that.

Yeah. It was a Unique Enemy too. I forgot its level... but it was pretty high leveled. I stupidly didn't use Monado Purge...
Jeez, I can imagine a Unique Enemy be some sort of mini boss in Smash Run.

Wha-what?! Why has this not been thought of before. Now that you mentioned it, it seems so obvious. We spent this wholentime speculating and.... (facepalm)
Honestly, I can't believe no one thought of this before. I feel like someone must have; I never have these kind of revelations first!

And I've made a further revelation.

Someone mentioned that Shulk's voice actor is doing a secret project right now...
If that mysterious X character isn't Shulk, then that character would get a different voice actor I bet...
What if his voice actor was voice acting as Shulk in Smash 4?! :D

I can dream...

Just looked up the Nintendo Life interview with Adam Howden (Shulk VA) and...

NL: Are you interested in doing any more game voice roles in future? Are you working on anything at the moment?

AH: I'm always interested in doing more voice work on games. They're great fun & the games industry has been very kind to me. I have been working on a new game recently. I can't say what it is yet but I was very pleased to see it trending on Twitter when it was announced. It's very satisfying to know there's a buzz and anticipation for a project you're involved in. Aside from games, I've been working on television and film projects which will be released this year.
Yeah, Smash Bros. does fit the description of something that would be trending on Twitter. X might have too, but Smash almost definitely was.

Umm... I dunno. Maybe? Just let me touch the Monado and I'll get back to you on that.

Can you please give me a link to this article? I wanna check the date when it was published.
Smash is definitely something that would trend on Twitter. I can say the same for X, but Smash definitely fits that bill quite nicely. I wouldn't go as far as to say that it will become something like the next Krystal thing, however. (her VA mentioned that she was voice acting as her in Brawl and people saw her as all but confirmed)

Yeah, not to ruin your fun or anything, but that "revelation" was made by several people on GameFAQs, NeoGAF, Youtube, etc since the very first week that trailer was revealed (i.e. since January 2013). Again, sorry to be a buzzkill.

That being said, we still can't be sure that this 100% isn't Shulk. Like ChibiIceClimberz pointed out, the two games have very different art styles, the character desginer for X is different than the one for Xenoblade, and let's not forget that, unlike X, Xenoblade was in SD and had poor character models. It's still very possible that the "Shulk lookalike" is actually Shulk himself (although I'm leaning a bit more towards it being his son, I guess).

It doesn't mean much to say Shulk will be in Smash 4. I feel that will probably be a given.

Assist Trophies need voice actors too.

Well, I figured as much, so there wasn't much buzz to kill I guess. At least I know now, so I don't go telling people that I made a discovery and then look like an idiot. :p
