So to pass the time for whatever's going to come of tomorrow's direct, I've been thinking up moveset possibilities for Shulk aside from the ones in the OP.

I'm really interested in a moveset that uses Monado powers as buffs, most specificially one that has even more utilization in team battles, which is something we haven't ever seen.

Like for example, Monado gauge present or not, being able to cast Speed, Shield, Armor etc. (What was the one with the bleed effect? I totally missed out on grabbing it.) on allies or yourself to assist in combat sounds interesting and unique. His aerial attacks and a-moves can be Stream Edge, Shaker Edge, Air Slash, etc. but I really feel like Monado powers + team battles = awesome possibilities.
I've been thinking about the same thing. As awesome as the Monado powers + team battles idea is (and it is) I feel like it'd be too hard to balance. I'm thinking along these lines. Every new character introduces some sort of new gameplay mechanic and/or is based around a previously defined mechanic (Little Mac = super armor, Roslina+Luma = Seperation, Megaman = projectiles, etc.). What would Shulk bring to the table? The Monado obviously has creative potential as a weapon. I'm thinking one of two directions:

1.) The ability to give himself power ups in the midst of battle such as increase his speed, defense, or attack BUT it takes some time to do it and can be stopped if attacked in the middle of the process sort of like Samus' B charge.

2.) The ability to turn on and off the Monado at will making his attacks shorter but more powerful when closed or longer but weaker when open.

Also I can totally picture Shulk being super aggressive towards Megaman in his reveal trailer lol

Gosh these ideas sounded a lot better in my head. Well anyway, what do you think Shulk's thing will be? Also I think I'm in too deep as far as hype goes because I'm already 100% convinced Shulk will be revealed tomorrow lol.

I love those ideas. Number 1 sounds especially interesting.

Another idea I had about his unique mechanics, which I think may have been mentioned before, is that his A moves build up the Monado gauge and give him a whole new set of specials once full, that he can use for a limited time, which include minor buffs like Speed, and stronger attacks with more reach like Buster.

I feel like it's an interesting idea because the gauge would deplete after certain attacks are used/enough of them are used, and would push you back into your physical specials/normal attacks range.

It sure does give him alot of specials, but I think it's an interesting mixup.

Ooooh I like that idea better than mine. It kinda reminds me of Project M Lucas.

Ugh! I can't sleep!!! It feels like Christmas Eve and I snuck downstairs in the middle of the night to catch Sakurai putting a big Shulk shaped present under the Smash tree. The Hype is Real!

I hope Shulk makes it in. He's someone I've really been rooting for since we all know Zael and Callista fall short. (Although I preferred TLS to Xeno) You can't deny he came up as the poster boy of the operation rainfall games.

The proper way of saying it would have been "I had a dream," although if we want to get technical you are correct since you created the dream yourself. Anyways, I'm trying to avoid this board with the impending direct right around the corner. I'm so excited. Besides characters, there are bound to be a ton of surprises.

Would be so amazing to see Shulk tonight.

I'm not really expecting anything in particular in terms of newcomers tonight though, the smash community hasn't had a great track record predicting newcomers for this game.....

I am hoping for Shulk... really hoping for Shulk.
If we get multiple newcomers, he could be one of them. However, I am not going to expect him to get confirmed.
My hype would go through the roof if he does!
Please Sakurai! Please! PLEASE CONFIRM SHULK!!!

MONADO! LEND US YOUR POWER!
PLEASE HAVE SHULK GET CONFIRMED IN THIS DIRECT! LET US BEHOLD THE POWER OF THE MONADO IN SMASH! LET THE WORLD KNOW HIS NAME!

I am so scared! Please! This Direct is 39 minutes long! That will be excellent for a Shulk reveal! Come on!
The future should belong to Shulk!

Shulk wasn't confirmed. :(
I'm just thankful that he wasn't disconfirmed; a ton of characters were.
Also, Greninja is pretty cool!

The only characters with a chance of making that were disconfirmed were Ridley and Saki. Saki didn't even have high hopes.

Not necessarily dissapointed but I would have preferred to see Shulk for sure.

Same. Shulk still has a chance at appearing... I can see him be revealed at E3.
Also, that City Trail thing had a portal that reminded me of the Monado for some reason...

I'll be completely honest, I seriously thought that Greninja was Shulk for a slight second. With Water Shuriken getting charged up, I thought it was Monado Purge, lol.

I just got a little too hopeful, Greninja is far too skinny.

EDIT: Let alone, he doesn't even have a sword. I just got way too hopeful and a little delusional there.

It's as if these trailers were made to have some elaborate illusion to them.
I thought that Shulk would come out and help Mario's side... and then I thought it was Mewtwo's big return...
Sakurai is a giant tease.

Overall though, that Tweet from before and this Greninja reveal makes me think that Shulk's chances were slightly raised. You can't call Shulk "too new" when a character that is a couple of months old just got confirmed. I also think this person knows something that we don't know about.

I really do hope that's true. Chorus men looks adorable, I love the derpiness of it. Pac-man will eventually grow onto me.

Still feeling very salty about the Miis, though. Oh well, Shulk is nice compensation.

This... bodes well for Shulk.

If that guy is indeed correct, then we have to keep an eye out for the other characters. The Rhythm Heaven characters are a bit fishy, however.
Hey, if Shulk makes it in, I'm happy. I will talk about this some other time. Either way, I would take it with a grain of salt.

See as all of the new characters so far had something to do with a recent title, it wouldn't be impossible. Also, they may have meant Marshal, which was the host of the Wii game. He looks like the Chorus guys.

As for Pac-man, I'd be OK with it if it was Classic Pac-Man and not crappy modern Pac-Man

This is the same guy that predicted Villager, Mega Man, and Wii Fit Trainer before E3, so it could be true. From here, we should keep an eye out on Sal Romano and Gematsu because they're proving to be very credible.

I'll take this with a grain of salt indeed. I'm just saying that this does help Shulk in some capacity. I'm just hoping the "too new" arguments will die.

We should keep an eye out for the Chorus guys. If they get confirmed, then this can potentially boost the legitimacy of this leak (Palutena and Chrom seem to be expected at this point).

I'm satisfied with what we got in the Direct. I didn't expect Shulk, I hoped for him, but in the end this helped him.

The leaker got 5 characters out of 11 right. I'd rather not have anyone's expectations too high, but just letting that out. It's good to feel hopeful sometimes!

True. Also, the argument got thrown out the window when all the new characters were new.

Be glad the guy who leaked the Leaky 3 gave you this info, now Shulk's chances are 99% for sure. :D
If this was Rate Their Chances, I would give Shulk an 85% now.
He is not a shoo-in, but he has a lot going for him. Greninja only proved that it doesn't matter how recent a character is and that Shulk's inclusion won't be prevented even though he comes from a new game. I can honestly see him get announced at E3. (and that would be the ultimate birthday gift!)

I think that this argument has been dead for years. Roy was in Melee and his game came out afterwards. I find the too new arguments to be excuses for people to have a reason for Shulk's exclusion.

What an epic direct! I cannot wait until the summer release. Was I the only one nervous during the AT section that Shulk might show up? Honestly, I felt Greninja was the low point of the direct. I did not know who he was (I was sure it was a pokemon) but I'm not in the pokemon loop. I initially thought Greninja was going to be Isaac lol.

In regards to Shulk, I still think he has a decent chance. Hasn't changed much for me

My heart was racing when I saw the Trophy trivia and Assist Trophy parts. Also, thank god the Beam Sword is returning so that people can stop saying that the Monado could replace the Beam Sword as an item (or something along those lines).

The low points for me were the 3DS version coming before the Wii U version and just seeing these characters get disconfirmed left and right. So many of them were slaughtered... including a veteran.

I just saw the new leak you guys were talking about in the leaks thread. While it does seem slightly more likely that Shulk may be in the game now, I almost feel like some of the surprise is ruined. Although I do want Palutena in the game too. (She's basically confirmed at this point). I'd rather take Robin over Chrom, but Chrom seems like more of the poster boy for Awakening. No comment on the chorus people. I'm a tad conflicted, but I'll still be overhyped for at least a week after seeing that direct.

Well having seen the Mii in that Find Mii stage, I'm not so super sold on the guy behind the E3 Leak anymore, but... we didn't see Shulk as an AT in that montage, so that much at least looks positive for him.

I don't think that Miis are disconfirmed just yet. They were shown in that cage... but one of the pics didn't have them in that cage.

I say that they could pull and Alfonzo and still be playable.
I really don't want them to... but if them getting in also means that Shulk is in, then so be it.

But anyways, this is a bit off topic I believe.

Eh, it relates to Shulk and his odds I think.

And yeah, I didn't meant that the Mii in the cage de-confirms the leak, just that it certainly doesn't speak in it's favor.
Also why would he get specific with everyone except the Pokemon, the only series we actually saw this time around?

Either way, I come out expecting Shulk more after this Direct.

Well, he's gotten odd info before. The e-mail before E3 called Villager "Animal Crossing Guy" apparently.

So I'm still saying it's pretty interesting. Either way, odds are in Shulk's favor at this point, and I'm just waiting to see him show up before I decide to main him or Greninja.

Also, I was glad to not see him in the ATs list. I'm glad Saki got the axe instead, because Shulk's mah boi. And am I seeing Mechonis in the background here, or is it just me?:

It's probably not, but I was a little like "Whaa?"

This actually looks very much like the Mechonis from a distance. I don't think there has been a stage revealed that matches the background, but who knows. We'll eventually see what the stage is. We did have Mario Galaxy shown off in a POTD way before its official reveal.

I think it's from Smash Run.
