Tryhard isn't fun

I don't want to see 4 teams of Dphat/Mogwai/Zac/Azen/whatever captains finding the gayest ways possible to counter jungle and 5 man for the first 10 minutes.
im sorry, i dont understand

Objectively, option 2.

Although I'd be more comfortable with option 1 (TEAM POKECENTER MAKE IT HAPPEN), option 2 just sounds more fair to players that no one knows and probably don't have a team. And it's just kinda more fair in general.

Option #2 all the way. The only people that are going to pick #1 are the players with the highest ELO or their immediate buddies who hope to hop onto the best team. Much better to do a player draft and give everyone a reason to try. Also might help spread the love around SWF since we'd end up playing with people we don't usually queue with.

Option #2 since in option #1, everyone would be fighting for me on their team

What, was the enemy at like 10% HP remaining or something?
You can't 1v1 anyone with Rammus under "early game" circumstances unless they're practically already on their dying breaths. :applejack:
you obviously don't moose people hard enough.

i routinely solo ranged carries/junglers with the moose at early levels. Just spec 21 offensive and **** them with your OP AD from your OP passive with wriggle's + DBC.

Or spread hate because someone bad will lose the game for the good players.

Maybe. Idk.

The teams need time to practice though, right?

I like option 2, until we end up with a number of entrants that doesn't end in 5 or 0.

I feel like everyone could make their own teams well enough, but Team High ELO would make it unfun, pretty much making it a competition for second or third place. :p Depending on how many Team High ELOs there are.

Not ending in 5 or 0 would always be a problem.

I hate to say this but I really think all of you guys have very limited tourney experience.

Granted I personally don't have much LoL tourney experience, but anyway...

#2 is certainly a more appealing idea to the masses, but #1 is the only true way to do it unless you have some amazing circumstances.

I mean, I'd like option #2 to go well but has anyone polled the would-be captains on this? Or, rather, does anyone want to be a captain? If you answered yes to that, you're probably not a high-ranked player. Essentially you're going to be drafting from a pool of players that aren't as good as you, and also who you probably don't know. Sure they've got an ELO but what does that tell you? Furthermore, you don't know their schedules (yet. That might have to be added) or their playstyles. Perhaps they'll say what they like to do, but what does that really tell you?

You've got to have amazing patience to be a captain in this draft. And now you have to practice with people you probably don't know and critique the crap out of them. All this for one tourney and then you will probably disband the team.

I suppose you could just have the team and then just play, but that's not exactly "try hard". And I dunno how many people would really want to do that.

So yeah, I'm with option #1. Some mega-power team wants to form? I say let them, and bring it on. I'll still have fun, and the possibility of some super SWF team forming and then entering major tournaments afterwards is actually an interesting and exciting thought.

well, we're already vaguely trying to form, but I've been kinda lazy recently aside from duoing with dphat. I guess all the blame really should be falling on utdzac for never being on any more (imoimoimo).

but anyway, people are getting too tryhard about this imo. it's one thing to be like, "guys, we're tryharding, so don't ***** the other team out for counterjungling or SmashGizmo going 14/1 in lane (after giving fb, obv)," and another thing to be like, "guys, we're tryharding, so you better clear up your schedule this week so that we can practice CAUSE WE WANNA WIN THIS ****IN' SMASHBOARDS TOURNEY WITH NO PRIZES, K!?" Option 2 is the best way to go because stomping games in LoL are really really really unfun for the losing team.

If you wanna scrim, give me some dates. I'll be there (Excluding fridays before midnight and some saturdays). I can play any role / champ, just let me know 3 days in advance and I'll be ready.

mostly I just wanna play some ranked 5s together so that we can develop a feel for the types of teams we can run and get some team chemistry going before messing around with scrims and go4lols.

So, I'm being converted to this game. Played HoN during beta about a year ago, played LoL very early in its lifespan for like a day.

Are there any really important things I need to know? I'm familiar with most of the mechanics from HoN, as well as just general things like jungling and similar terms. Are there any major gameplay differences?

Actually, I guess HoN beta was two years ago. Time flies.

Mogwai is right. This doesn't have to be a "clear your schedule and scrim 4hrs a night to prep" kind tourney. We can tryhard in games without trying to make long-lasting teams. Odd numbers are solved by taking subs and rotating people out. Plus, it let's lower ELO players learn from the better players here in the customs.

To help with a player draft, we can restrict entry to people at lvl 30 or with at least X number of characters unlocked. Then when we sign up, we can post what roles we are comfortable with. That way captains can think "oh, I want to play an AP carry in this and I alreadt drafted a guy I know can junle so I'll take this guy who says he can play AD or top lane."

It's clear to me, option #2 simply won't be a serious tourney.

Doesn't necessarily mean bad, but it is what it is.

I like Mogwai's point about how stomping games in LoL are really unfun for the losing team. I may have to quote that later.

I would be down for #2.
I would love to que with people here so people can get a feel for how I play.
I'm comfortable in any role, though I have limited support and jungle champs that I can play effectively.

I really like option 1 more, although those people who don't play with other smashers are going to want to do 2. I prefer to play on a team in which I know the players already and have some sort of synergy with them rather than being picked for a random team and treating it just like a solo q game.
