This game is competitive at any level, but it's the kind of competition that one finds in a small town with a small group of people who play smash and don't know anything about competitive play.
Basically a bunch of ******** morons who think they know everything and whenever something goes wrong it's not their fault. This also continues well into level 30, and at any elo.

Below 1200 elo everyone bans solely tanks in my experience. Malph rammus mummy Ali. It seems like a joke to see who can get the worst tank among them. But above 1300 bans are more logical.
So I'm entering into a 1v1 tournament this weekend.
Here are the rules:
Rules:
* 8 bans total, 4 per player. These are done by alternations(Player 1 bans a champion, then Player 2 bans a champion, then Player 1 etc.)
* After all the bans are done, the game is started and both players pick their champion in blind pick.
* The game will be held in mid, and jungling is not permitted. Juking through river is allowed, but gaining XP and/or gold in the jungle means you will be disqualified.
* The game will be played until either player has scored 2 kills or downed 2 turrets in the middle lane.
* The tournament is single elimination.
Advice? What champs should I ban?
I can play Brand/Singed/Warwick/Anivia/Swain/Singed are my best at a solo lane I think.

Warwick is always strong/sustainable/suppression OP 1v1.
brand has beast laning, so can anivia and swain but they're all heavy mana dependant.

i saw this mundo in a 1v1 tourney who brought smite and got lizard at level 1. he then ghosted into the lane from the top bush, dealing 120 damage autoattacks on his lvl 1 opponent thanks to masochism and slowing with cleaver. was pretty hilarious, and he almost got first blood.

well you could ban gp and trynd given they can chew through your hp with crits. high sustainable champs can be a problem for some but i dont know your style of play..
for me it would be something like

heimerdinger would be another great choice. if you get enough defense to shrug off their harass, then you just push push push until you've got the towers.

Based on some 1v1s I've watched you want to play or ban champs that are really good at pushing/getting buffs at lower levels.
Yi,GP,Morde,WW, Udyr, and I think Kennen is strong as well. I haven't really kept up with it but I thought that one of the last 1v1 tourneys (not the recent solomid one I have no idea about that one) the finals were Kennen v Kennen, and he got buffed.
Her q applies on hit effects. So yes it does apply her w.
And current udyr > nasus in lane.
Nasus has to try to over come harass and can't **** the enemy laner back for a while.
Udyr just goes LOL TIGERRRRRRRR STANCE.
And you lose in trades.
I can't even tell you how many enemy laners can't even HURT udyr if you're maxing turtle stance with 0/21/9 and defensive runes.
And current udyr > nasus in lane.

So what are everyone's thoughts on Skarner? I feel like his early and mid game are reasonably strong, especially with a nice laning partner on bot. Strong harass provides synergy and his self regen gives him staying power. I personally say he trickles off later because I don't really know what to build.
I start off Regrowth -> Philo, HoG, Kage's, boots -> Merc's, chain armor, negatron -> Hourglass -> Abyssal -> Sell Philo for Rylai's then my build goes to ****. If I build defensively (FH, FoN) then I don't hit as hard as I'd like to. I'm thinking I'll just try Sheen + DFG but I'm unsure.

the sheen doesnt help too much but i have yet to see one with a DFG.
my build focuses more on Attack Speed with Ability Power thats tanky enough to keep the shield up and going.

Wouldn't Kog'Maw be pretty effective too? I always thought his harassment with his ult was good.
