Let me know when you host another private. I want /in next time.

I didn't catch up with the game but I was reading your notes and I'm impressed on how much detail you put into this game, and your extensive knowledge of past setups and how they influenced the game was enlightening also.

'I think it's ironic Glyfe blew so many gaskets with this game, considering he hosts so many similar games.'

I do love to have unconventional roles, but I don't intentionally give my players information that makes them useless (while leading them to believe they're not) or would make them more likely to be lynched. If they're a dummy role (like fart distractor), its pretty clear from the get go that they're just there to **** around in the night phase.

I passed it off as ryker being ryker. :salty:
Yeah that had me pretty mad. That was some conclusive evidence right there. Then again, you never knew there was a mafia left because Jupiter no-killed then shot me.

God that would be so frustrating if I actually wanted to go in on his argument. :urg:

Don't know if I would've been better off not claiming BP. Ohwell.

I'm really shocked to see Laundry even hesitate to give us MVP after all the crazy **** we pulled off in this game. So what if town did some stupid stuff, in large they did stupid stuff because we talked them into doing it in the first place.

I still stand by shooting Ryker. It fit building up JTB's vig claim (in contrast to the confirmed non-lethal vig), and Ryker was dead in the water for the next day. We had no reason to believe he was our traitor (you've already touched on this), especially not when he made such a powerful connection to our slot in his very first post that damned either one of us upon the other's flip. We couldn't afford him flipping traitor, regardless of if he was aligned with us or not.

On top of that, him not flipping but still being clearly mafia was an incredibly helpful tool in pushing the lynches on RR and faking a case on John. I'm more than willing to trade that for a bomb going off on someone the next day.

Also I'm still mad salty about Gorf's item making him look like obvious scum.
Washed how could you not think that was going to hurt town?

So, then, there's the misinformation part. I don't like people relying solely upon roles in order to find scum. My goal is to have it aid them, without being a crutch for them. I see a lot of games where players can skate by, allowing their roles to do the work for them (Auspher in Lost Mafia comes to mind immediately). The easiest way of nerfing the strength of roles in general, is to make it unreliable. You do that by creating misinformation.

Information is a powerful tool in mafia, and most people don't realize this. This is why I go around *****ing at people for weak arguments like "he's being fake:" usually they can't back it up, and when they can, 9/10 they spun some of the posts to fit their argument. Yes, persuasion itself is the best tool to have in mafia ("it doesn't matter that you had the best reads if you can't convince anyone to act on them" argument), but one of the best means of persuading anyone is through having certain information that others do not, or having better information than anyone else. Information is also at a premium in mafia, and tainted by uncertainty. Every bit of mod-confirmed information is valuable, simply because it can't be argued. Every bit of a confirmed cop read is valuable, simply because it takes one person off the table or catches scum when it matters. It's not the only thing, but it's damn well important to have. By reducing the amount of information made available to players, the more I made them get by on their play

It was originally a flavor cop, meant to track little bits of flavor that could catch scum in the lategame. I altered it at the last minute, but I don't think the alterations impacted the role at all. Any smart player would've been able to tell a liar had the results been a "a robin" or "Orange goggles". It's still weaker than a regular role, but potentially dangerous in the right hands. Clues were meant to be cryptic but still telling. Again, misinformation, but this is one of the roles that could provide the closest thing to mod-confirmed, USEFUL info outside of a successful killshot this game.

Case-in-point of this was Gorf's lynch on D4. Gorf was not playing that antitown of a game, outside of buddying Ryker. He certainly was not the scummiest player in the game. Yet, he got lynched through a flavor cop because two newbie players bought the (unintentional) WIFOM and thought Gorf was a scum jailer when the flavor cop was supposed to be telling of role, but not necessarily alignment.

Basically we thought we were freer to talk more than we were, so when she asked questions about gamestate to catch up I was freely answering them. It gave me a pretty good feel for her alignment, but we were smart enough not to be discussing roles etc.

GGs scum. You all played very well. As for town I can't really say so. Jupiter I believe had an MVP performance and think they should get it. Will give more comments later.

JDietz, WHAT THE ****. Seriously... WHAT THE ****. I thought that you were the flavour cop when I said what I said, and now that I know what happened, I'm sorry that I possibly elated your idea of your worth by that statement. Your play was trash and you eliminated one of town's few hopes off of an assumption. I hate to possibly sound like a douche, but you're not as good as you think you are, so don't prance around ASSUMING **** AND GETTING SOMEBODY WHO WASN'T PLAYING SCUMMY LYNCHED. Nuf. Said.

What was he? Did he have any sort of result that hinted at you being scum or was all of that a complete lie?

He was essentially VT and the million dollar question is how he was able to interpret meow's crumbs with that much precision.

Wow.

Are you ****ing kidding me?

That single-handedly lost town the game. We had a Jupiter lynch lined up at L-1 with express interest to be hammered, the only thing stopping us was that.

I'm severely disappointed in you, Dietz. ****ty play.

Ran. Never do that again. You did the same thing in Newbie 12. There's always something you can do. Even if you know your lynch is inevitable. Argue it down with all you can even if you know you're doomed. This forces the pushers of your wagon (probably scum if they don't see reason after you give it your all) to dig themselves into a hole on your town flip. Giving up passively gives town nowhere to look once you die and it lets scum get away with an easy ML. If you give em' hell before going down, town will be a lot better off.

And that goes for everyone. Stop giving up in situations that don't warrant it. If you know you're completely ****ed, okay, but if there is even a speck of pro-factional motivation for you to keep playing: keep playing.

Laundry, your concepts were nice and your roles were decent.

Next time you work so hard on a setup, follow through all the way. I know you're a busy college kid. I know the feeling. But that doesn't excuse your blatant lack of setup padding and flavor. Yeah, flavor isn't important, but with something like Gigabots I'd hoped you as a mod would make it so. Even if its minimal, give me something to look forward to that resembles the flavor of the game I signed up for. As for the padding, your character matchups with roles was abysmal. Garth's dad for a safe claim? Not even one giga-bot pilot as a safe claim? Heck, if we had mass claimed D1 we would probably have been able to line up all 4 scum lynches in a row just based on obscure characters. That's just poor design and something you really should have come through on. Modding was fine other than that.
