World was good too. Loved the colorscheme and Yoshi of course.

Man I can't believe I forgot Mario Kart. Logged a ton of hours on Wii, 7, and 8 on the Wii U.

I'd have to say Super Mario 64. I got introduced to the game via Super Mario 64 DS (I was born a couple years after the original), and then bought the original game and played heck out of it.
Same, but the games aren't vastly different, and (SUPER UNPOPULAR OPINION ALERT) I might even say the DS remake expanded upon what made 64 so great, thereby making it better.

Mario Kart is my favorite series of all time, but it could definitely use some work. The roster for 8 is abysmal, and although the tracks in that game don't feel nearly as homogenous as its predecessors, Nintendo still strays from using different themes. I thought instead of a typical desert level with dunes and pyramids for the 20th game in a row, why not a desert city? Instead of your typical beach stage, why not a pirate lagoon? Why not a vaudeville stage where the screen is somewhat sepia or black and white? There's mini golf, laboratories, indoor water parks, booby trapped courses-- so many themes that remain unused. Electrodrome is original, and Mount Wario is a fun twist on the usual snowy levels, but I'd like to see some more creative thinking instead of an invisible fear of uniqueness.

Mother 1 was added to virtual console and called "Earthbound Beginnings" during the Smash Ballot. The game has been released worldwide.

The official Japanese Mother 1 commercial shows Ninten wearing a bandana with a red, blue, and white stripes shirt. Also, the design argument is weak when Pichu, Dr. Mario, and the different Links are unique characters. Also, remember Pit from Brawl? Sakurai gave him a spectacular redesign, so there is no denying he could do the same with Ninten
All those characters look way different from Ninten. That commercial is a non-canon design. The Links and Dr. Mario are official in-game designs. That argument is weak because you're using non-canon stuff. Also, the fact of the matter is, that's proof he needs a redesign. Every Link had very tellable difference in art design or body shape. Ninten and Ness look almost exactly alike in the game proper. You also forget that Sakurai isn't going to redesign every character either. Pit was a special exception and the first in his series. EarthBound/Mother is a finished series. There's no reason to believe Sakurai is magically going to revive that when the developer considers it done. Why would he? This also means he can't just redesign any character for the hell of it. He doesn't own any of them. He needs to get permission for any major overhaul design changes. He doesn't own the IP. He had permission to redesign Pit, but Kid Icarus was also not a strictly finished series like Mother is. The situations are entirely different.

Notice how you can tell every Link apart? Notice how there is only one adult Link per game? The other two child Links have different aesthetics and Young Link only come back because of Ultimate's "Everyone is here" premise. But he also is extremely different from Toon Link too. That's the thing. They have a similarity to designs, but they're still blatantly different. Dr. Mario and Mario have entirely different costumes, just the same body frame. It's not the same situation at all. We don't have any situation like Ninten and Ness. It never happened. Pit and Dark Pit are close at best, but they also are clones. But they also have more designs differences than the Mother boys have. They were designed to be easy to tell apart in many ways, including various artwork. Ninten doesn't need a giant change, just enough to help separate him from Ness. Assuming the owner of the series is absolutely okay with that, then it'll work. But as noted, that's not up to Sakurai to redesign him. The reason it took forever to get Mother games on the VC is how protective the IP Owner is. It's very likely he won't allow a redesign, and we'd be lucky to get the non-canon commercial design. I wouldn't bet on it at this point.

You also completely ignored the other issues entirely. Including why Ninten does not fit our reasoning. Do you want all protagonists before the antagonists in their series? Or do you want a protagonist before their specific antagonist? You can't have both here. They're two completely different premises.

I'm going to correct this. He never planned to have him in. He said he considered him and dismissed him due to 3rd party issues. It's unclear how heavily he considered him, but he did not put him on any project plan. He briefly mentioned the character as an unfeasible option, noting that he was still a great choice in itself.
This is a fantastic resource when talking about characters that were cut/considered, and even categorizes them based on whether it was a fleeting thought or a serious consideration.

And of course, Geno gets a glowing mention for being wanted since Brawl, as we all know.

Sakurai does what he wants anyway so saying something's a "special case" isn't really saying much when a ton of characters got design overhauls in Ultimate.

None of this matters though, besides, what's your fave Mario game besides RPG?

Oh my god, Reach was awesome. Especially its custom games.
Matchmaking and Custom Games were my favorite.
I'm actually a Reclaimer and so close to being an Inheritor, but I haven't played Reach in ages now, plus I ran out of gold and went back to playing Nintendo. I should go back to it sometime to rank up to the max rank. Halo 2's multiplayer was great, but what really blew me away was the campaign. It's sad that we will never get a god-tier Halo game ever again.

I miss the good ol' days of Halo. 2004-2011 were the prime years of Halo, and they left me a great memory. I miss the good ol' days of coming home from school, not doing my homework for the whole school year, and just hopping right on to play Halo with my friends from school. I wish those days could happen again, but unfortunately it never will. :/

He actually doesn't do what he wants. He has to go through quite a bit to be allowed. Contrary to popular belief, Sakurai is only given control in some areas and still has bosses. Why do you think Geno isn't playable yet? Because he doesn't own the character and has to go through channels to get to him. He got as much as he could.

Also, to be fair, all were relevant overhauls and he was allowed to do so. He's developing a game with many 1st party developers. Which said yes to doing so. 3rd parties aren't that simple. Nor is it that simple with the Mother IP owner. As I explained above in my edit, he's pretty protective of his IP. It's quite possible Ninten's non-canon commercial design won't be used, though I could see it being referenced in a costume. That said, I could see him using the basic design, despite the similarities, and we'd just deal with two characters that are hard to tell apart.

Anyway, I don't have a favorite Mario game. I like too many. Super Mario 64 I heavily enjoyed on its own merits. Now, sure, I also had a lot of fun with the Gameshark codes, making some codes myself(none that were high quality), but I also felt it did an amazing job at evolving Mario's abilities. I felt Sunshine and Galaxy felt too gimmicky in comparison. They're great games, but I like him simpler. Mario Party 3 is my favorite MP(5 is my second favorite), and Mario Kart 64 is my favorite Kart game. I don't own anything besides the Gameboy and N64 Tennis and Golf games, so I can't say favorite on that. Also, did you mean SMRPG in itself, or RPG's in general?

I was referring to that earlier, including the correction on Geno. Mind you, the user said a different word than intended(I just honestly hope people don't latch onto his miswording. I've seen it happen too often >.< Where people just take the wrong wording instead of the point and never let the error go). But yeah, a lot of characters got considered that never made it in.

It's also quite possible that it could be used too so... I dunno. I'm personally fine with either design anyway. Like you said it's up to Itoi and I have faith in him. He's a cool dude.

I meant in general, I wanted to start a more plesant conversation to save us from the madness presented earlier. Sorry about that by the way.

Tetrin Tetrin If you are trying to ignore Ninten's unique moveset potential, then you are using extreme bias for your arguments. You can't believe only what you want to believe.

Again, you thinking Porky would make more money is an assumption. You don't know that. People bought Corrin even though they didn't like his inclusion. Don't underestimate the people who would buy Ninten.

Next year is the 30th anniversary of Mother 1. If you are trying to argue this in Porky's case, then Ninten benefits from the argument more.

Relevancy, again, does not equal more likely. Look at the irrelevant characters in the game. You keep reusing this argument, and it doesn't mean much.

Verde Coeden Scalesworth Verde Coeden Scalesworth The Mother 1 commercial is an official source from Nintendo. Sakurai can use this design.

The Kid Icarus series was dead before Pit arrived. Sakurai added him. There is also the possibility of Mother 3 coming to the switch. And before you say Porky makes more sense because he is in Mother 3, Lucas was DLC in Smash 4 when EBB came to the WiiU virtual console shortly after. Same thing can happen this time. Ninten can come with Mother 3 for switch.

And I use Pit in Brawl as an example that Sakurai can redesign a character. No reason for him to do that.

If you say that protagonists don't have to be added before antagonists, then you can't say that antagonists should be added before protagonists

My favorite is the first Galaxy because I had the best experience with it and it blew me away at the time. Buoy Base is something I'll never forget. It truly felt like Mario going somewhere he'd never gone before, completely displaced from what we were used to, kind of like Sunshine, but in a much bigger and more beautiful way. It really made me feel like Mario could do anything, like he finally lived up to his legacy somehow.

The orchestral soundtrack is what really makes Galaxy to me. Makes it feel super atmospheric which is probably the point now that I've said it out loud heh.

First and foremost, I'm not ignoring anything. I've already disproven your points in my previous post, which you didn't comment on at all here, If you'd like to add more onto why you'd feel Ninten's unique, go for it, but concepts for Porky that I've seen are just vastly more original and borrow far less moves from other characters.

I'm approaching the problem logically and based on fanservice and hype. Using Corrin is irrelevant because he was seen by many as unnecessary. People still bought him, but I never said people wouldn't buy Ninten. I just said that I personally feel as though Porky would make more money for the aforementioned reasons, which assumes absolutely nothing because I said "I feel", not, "Porky will".

You literally ignored my point. I said yes, it's Mother 1's anniversary, but it's also the franchise's anniversary as a whole. It's like celebrating a married couples' anniversary: you don't just acknowledge the first year, you acknowledge every moment in between. Similarly, Mother's anniversary isn't only a time to reflect on the first game, but rather, every game in between.

I'll just ignore every time you say my relevance argument isn't valid. I've told you countless times that wasn't my only argument, and you insist on dancing around that fact to make yourself appear more credible. Proof that wasn't my only argument:
Porky is both more prominent, relevant, promising (moveset wise), and defining of his series than Ninten.
K Rool was also added through fanservice, which I might add, Porky has more of (little editor's note: Porky has more as opposed to Ninten).
Relevance most certainly plays a role, and don't act like it doesn't. Relevance is part of why K. Rool was kept out for so long, relevance added onto why the Inklings were added, relevance is why Lucina and Robin were added in the Sm4sh.

Is there any soundtrack in Odyssey as good or near as good as Buoy Base? I only just recently bought a Switch and I only had enough money for Smash at the time, and I refuse to spoil a mainline Mario game for myself, but I'd be fine just listening to a track.

Wouldn't know as I've yet to play Odyssey as I also just got mine. I hear it has a nice soundtrack though.

Odyssey is an excellent game. The blend of so many different art styles is the kicker for me. Great story, great controls, great graphics, great all around.

Thankfully arrived after it all ended. Love both characters, as y’all should because they’re great. That said, laughed at some people just saying blatantly untrue things.

As for favorite Mario spin-off? If we’re counting Wario as a Mario spin-off, then probably a Wario Land or Wario: Master of Disguise. If not, I think Wario’s Woods (wait **** that still says Wario). Probably Paper Mario or M&L PiT then.

In a twist, it's already dropped.

Anyway, I should try some of those SMRPG hacks. They sound fun.
I recommend you get SMRPG: Armageddon, it's like a hard version of SMRPG and has more to it.

And question: is it okay if I post a video in here? It's Smash related and about relating to your mains. I'm asking you because it has a lot of swearing in it. I did plan to post it and say "WARNING: FOUL LANGUAGE", but I read the rules and it said if I wasn't sure, I'd have to ask a mod about it. A lot of us are adults here, and there are a few kids here, which is why I'm asking you. They probably won't mind, but the rules might mind.

You should link to it offsite with a language warning(so just the url and a warning). Sometimes the bad language can pop up in previews due to things like the text appearing in the video itself.

So I jumble everything up with a hefty handful of 'you know, lots of things point to Geno not making it guys' and being a bit trolly, I check out for the forums for most of the next day, and I return to see if you guys have anything new going on and it turned into the Ninten Support Thread again.

Teasing aside, I have no issues with people loving their characters, but it does amuse me when that love overflows a bit and soaks into the wrong places.

Though the discussion is pretty much over, I would like to offer the one thing I might be able to in this situation: an odd bit of insight.

I have never played a Mother/Earthbound game. I have seen very little gameplay of the Mother series. My first experience with the Mother series was with Smash 64 in which 9-yr-old me was confused on why a random little boy was one of the secret characters (didn't know Cpt. Falcon either, but at least was cool) but thought it was kinda interesting how he could generate and control lightning and fire but also used a baseball bat. I know the names of some characters because people talk about them, but only know bigger names of more important characters.

With that in mind, I will tell you what my first thought was when I saw Ninten for the first time.

"Is this really old Ness art?"

I think that gives all the insight you need in regards to the casual Nintendo fanbase (which Smash contains a lot of) of how well Ninten would be received if he was announced. Porky would be unique in design and gameplay completely, but just Ninten's reveal would miss the mark for people.

That having been put out there, let's move on to my hopes for Geno raising slightly.

Also , can we all agree on the fact that Joker getting in is the proof that Sakurai still have some power on DLC?
I was gonna dog this guy a bit because of the shear amount of stuff there is to do in Ultimate, but not everyone is a completionist. Not everyone has to get a perfect score on every classic mode or even beat every classic mode at all, not every one has to max level every spirit or even unlock all the spirits to begin with and many more will skip over WoL as a whole.

However, this idea here has been on my mind recently and flows into a new thought pattern.

I always go back to when Reggie said Joker is an emblematic pick, and I think these are the only possibilities of what Joker’s pick was emblematic of:

1) Joker represents left-field picks.
2) Joker represents iconic games in recent years.
3) Joker represents characters who mainly appeal to smaller audiences.
4) “Emblematic” was all talk, and Joker is the only wild card choice.

I wholeheartedly believe that option 2 is something interesting that really no one is talking about, and if true, it’s definitely support 2b being the Square rep. However, if 1 or 3 are true, they’d both favor Geno (but at the same time, Erdrick).
What if it still represents what the DLC will be like, but in the sense that it's Option #5: it's Sakurai's Greatest Hits. For the incredibly low price of $24.99, you TOO could own all the characters that the GREAT Masahiro Sakurai has ever wished to put into Smash Brothers.

I say this because it could very easily be that this 'Nintendo picked the DLC' tweet may have been a red herring, in the sense that Sakurai had little to say in the matter when in actuality he had way more pull than he lead on. Hopefully it's still true, and hopefully he still wants Geno...

As for my fav Mario game, it's either Super Strikers Charged or the one I'm playing with my mom at the time.

I believe this is the Buoy Base killer you're looking for.

There is one called "Break Free (Lead the Way)" that will definitely surpass your thoughts on Buoy Base and Gusty Garden Galaxy, but I cannot let you listen to that one until you complete the game. Trust me, you'll regret it and it WILL spoil you, even if it's just a soundtrack. Many call it the best soundtrack in the game, even surpassing "Jump Up, Super Star!".

Sovereign Trinity covered most of the best tracks, but there are others that are also amazing (though, they would spoil certain parts of the game by either the title, the track itself or both). It's best to leave some of them as a surprise for when you actually reach the locations they play in.
One of the tracks i'm (subtly) referring to is Bowser's Castle. This track is amazing.
Odyssey also has some killer arrangements of tracks from previous Mario games. It has the best version of the classic Mario ground theme, and a few others (though one of these may or may not spoil a location in the game, so read at your own risk):
The Super Mario World theme and Peach's Castle from Mario 64

I'll count spin-offs in this list and say that my top five favorite Mario games are, in no particular order...

1) Super Mario 64
2) Paper Mario
3) Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
4) Super Mario Sunshine (where is the sunshine love you HEATHENS)
5) Super Mario World

It's kinda funny how SMRPG isn't that high on this list, but it's mostly because it's a tough choice. A lot of Mario games are really great and precious in my eyes. It also helps that I didn't grow up with SMRPG per se, yet I grew up with a lot of others. It kinda clouds my opinions a bit.

Although I have a hard time picking favorites in general (never mind from Mario), I really like the Super Mario Land games. Not sure if DK '94 counts.

Yep, that just shows how Square is with Nintendo. They got zero problems working with Ubisoft, Capcom, Bandai Namco, Activison, and Avalance Studios, but they got many problems with Nintendo. I find it interesting how Nintendo was even allowed to mention Super Mario RPG on their Twitter without Square having a mental breakdown, considering that Square doesn't like it when Nintendo mentions their stuff. There were a few pictures of Cloud in game, and I know there was one where he holds Zelda in the water. I'm surprised they even allowed Cloud to be in the roster banner.

I don't know if Yamauchi cussed Square out, stole their food, plagiarized their work and got away with it, or what, but I find it ridiculous that Square can't negotiate and get over their problems with Nintendo. Yamauchi is no longer the president, it's Shuntaro now. Square, it's time to call in a peace treaty with Nintendo. And while you're at it, please leave Sony and stay with Nintendo.
I will say the funniest irony in all of this is that, depending on the version of Final Fantasy 1, that had a graveyard joke that made fun of Link or Erdrick. Be careful of who you mock, it might backfire on you someday.

Seriously, it's a wonder that Enix are sharing the same space as them. You'd think they'd be at each other's throats
like Galeem and Dharkon.

Anyway, Square really seems to act tsundere around Nintendo.

So uh. I guess what I'm saying here is uh... I don't think our Square rep is gonna be any Final Fantasy character period.
That was already obvious to me. If they don't bother to even have Sephiroth in here, what's the point in seeing anyone FF in this DLC dev cycle?

It's also quite possible that it could be used too so... I dunno. I'm personally fine with either design anyway. Like you said it's up to Itoi and I have faith in him. He's a cool dude.

I meant in general, I wanted to start a more plesant conversation to save us from the madness presented earlier. Sorry about that by the way.
In regards to Itoi, I honestly wonder if he considers adding a Mother character as "continuing the series", when that is clearly not the case. :ultpalutena::ultdarkpit:

What if it still represents what the DLC will be like, but in the sense that it's Option #5: it's Sakurai's Greatest Hits. For the incredibly low price of $24.99, you TOO could own all the characters that the GREAT Masahiro Sakurai has ever wished to put into Smash Brothers.

I say this because it could very easily be that this 'Nintendo picked the DLC' tweet may have been a red herring, in the sense that Sakurai had little to say in the matter when in actuality he had way more pull than he lead on. Hopefully it's still true, and hopefully he still wants Geno…
Depends, we talking actual wishes, or brought up briefly as well? Because I have a hard time seeing Ayumi and Mach Rider get into this pass.

Sakurai does what he wants anyway so saying something's a "special case" isn't really saying much when a ton of characters got design overhauls in Ultimate.
Yeah, but Ninten doesn't seem like one he really has much incentive to go out of his way for. Maybe if he were a retro reveal on the base roster, but as DLC? Not really a popular iconic figure. Heck, even Mother fans debate within about how unique from Ness visually and character wise he is.

At least Porky has the Mother 3 localization campaigns going for him.

Nah man, the main courtyard version of it is better (imo)
Main Courtyard

I merely mentioned Ninten in a comment and someone quoted me saying another character is more likely and a character being more likely because of current relevancy is just simply false... I didn’t think my dumb opinion would derail the thread but it seems every time I simply mention him someone’s gotta tell me how unlikely they think he is and how much more likely they think. Then it derails the thread. I didn’t want it to and the entire argument was literally pointless since it was just personal opinions clashing with no actual evidence from either side. I’ll just stop mentioning him here altogether since all it seems to do is cause infighting.

I’m sorry...

Mentioning him wasn't the problem really. The debate surrounding him just apparently led from one thing to another.
