Just for clarification, who is Shinobi?

Before I made my new account here I had been out of the loop on a lot that happened
Credible leaker on resetera. Best known for basically teasing Banjo's reveal last year. Essentially sealed the deal on whether or not he was in

Let's be real here, nobody has backtracked at all and nobody even said it would be announced today, just that the direct is on Monday. Nintendo just might have thought that announcing a direct the same day they are releasing what they seem to be pushing as really their second major release this year that isn't a remake wasn't a good idea. NateDrake even said on Twitter through Direct-Feed Games after getting asked about it not getting announced that he thinks people need too much assurance. There's no reason to think it's not coming.

"There's no way I'm wrong because I have friends at Nintendo who DEFINTLEY know EVEYTHING"

Jesus that ego is through the stratosphere.

Seems it could potentially be a mini if there’s no announcement this weekend.

Shinobi is an insider on ResetEra who’s know to have a really good track record. His biggest claim to fame in the Smash community was when he teased Banjo’s E3 announcement by saying on June 4th “Been a while since we saw Banjo in anything. Hope we’re in for a smashing good time”. Also his profile picture is Newman from Seinfeld, which I’ve always found a little funny.

Edit: Got ninja’ed!

I've been meaning to ask you all. What is an underrated track from SMRPG that you personally love? For me, its the theme from Rose Town:

For some reason, this song just makes me happy and I love its upbeat and charismatic tone to it. Definitely an underrated track and I would love it if it were one of Geno's songs if he did get in Smash

I wouldn't say Shinobi is a leaker per se. He's an admin on Era as well and works in a game studio, so he has contacts and info on certain things, that's for sure.
It's true that from time to time he teases things, but it's not like he's in the internet for that.

Ironically, for that same reason anything he says is 99% true because he's not an attention seeker just like HotGirl or other multiple leakers. He doesn't tease things 24/7 but when he does you can be sure that he's not trolling people.

Not sure how underrated this song is, but:
I would adore a jazzy remix of this a la Terry's Stormy Saxophone 2.

Yeah, 5 was a cluster ****. People didn't want to share information and Nintendo sat on Byleth extra hard. Me and most of my guys went with the tidbit that Bethesda was getting "something" and ran with it. I went in the direction of Skyrim because Power of Six theory very, very heavily implied that 5 was a medieval fantasy RPG swordsman, likely from a company that hasn't gotten a rep. Technically this wound up true. Fire Emblem is a medieval fantasy RPG, Byleth is a swordsman, and Three Houses was partially developed by Tecmo. I was just horribly off the character because I was so stuck on 5 being third party and took Sakurai's statements no "new" characters too literally.
I still find it funny that the one they were super secretive about was Byleth of all charachters

So, we got another Paper Mario interview, it's in Spanish but people have translated it, OH BOY, here we go.

https://www.lavanguardia.com/videojuegos/20200717/482336286429/paper-mario-the-origami-king-creadores-tanabe-tabata-nagaya-nintendo-switch.html

  • Kensuke Tanabe: At the moment, it is not possible for us to create original characters like the Goombas or modified Toads seen in past games, or to reuse such characters from past games. However, in this installment we have been able to create the two origami characters Olly and Olivia, and wear outfits for certain Toads when it suited their role. As for the game system, beyond not making it a platform game, everything is in the hands of the development team. However, an internal opinion has emerged as to whether we really need two different Mario RPG series and in order to differentiate them we have created our titles as adventure games.
  • 1. Over the past 20 years the Paper Mario series has evolved around a dilemma: Follow or break the franchise tradition and create something different. Do you think this is so? Why?
  • Kensuke Tanabe: The Paper Mario series began as a sequel to the Super Mario RPG (1996) game for Super Nintendo. In the process of coming up with a new artistic style, we ended up with a paper version of Mario and this is how Paper Mario started. From this moment on, paper became the main theme of the series and since then we have had to think about how to use this theme in the game.
  • At Nintendo, even when we work on a new installment of an established franchise, we generally don't use the same game system that was used in the previous installment. For example, the Super Mario series made the leap to 3D with advances in hardware, and each new installment makes use of unique systems. The same can be said for 2D Mario games, as we have seen with Super Mario Maker. In this regard, Paper Mario is no exception and we hope that the series will continue to change in the future.
  • Kensuke Tanabe: With the exception of the central system of each series, in all the titles I've worked on, from The Legend of Zelda and Metroid series, to Donkey Kong Country Returns, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and more recently Luigi's Mansion 3, I have always wanted to create and incorporate new systems. This philosophy I have when creating games also applies to the Paper Mario series. However, even when all games are created with this same philosophy, sometimes fans welcome games and sometimes they don't. In general, for the Paper Mario series, the only element that has remained stable in each installment is the theme of paper.
  • 4. The combat system was one of the most criticized elements of the previous Paper Mario. Is it something you have taken into account when creating the new one?
Kensuke Tanabe: For Paper Mario: The Origami King I have decided to move away from the theme of paper for battles. Instead, I've opted for a 360-degree fighting concept. In this installment, it is possible to defeat enemies at once by aligning their positions within the assigned time frame. This battle system is still turn-based command selection, but I think adding the puzzle solving element gives players a new experience.
Hahaha, Mario RPG's are dead aren't they.

The songs these are based off of are far from underrated, but so few people seem to know these exist.

This is an arrangement album done by several other composers, and is 100% official. On top of many other great tracks from other games, this includes arrangements of Beware The Forests Mushrooms and Goodbye Geno, and my GOD are they gorgeous.

Goodbye Geno has always been my favorite track of SMRPG, specially the part since 1:53 HERE. It’s so deeply emotional and beautiful. Always remember this part associated with The End of the Journey in the game where Geno a ascends to heaven and Mallow has the Little Geno Doll in his hands. I can’t believe such beauty on it.

We are becoming punching bags by so many leakers and rumors just like what happened to Ridley in the past but I hope we get the good ending soon
I still remember the days where if you had Ridley and King K. Rool in your leak, lots of people would immediately discredit it just because they were in every fake leak. They were the punching bags of speculation, especially with how debatable of an inclusion Ridley specifically already was.

It sucks to see Geno follow the same path, but that’s just kinda what happens when your both popular and look likely at the moment.

Just like you, I can only hope the end of the Star Road is soon upon us.

Honestly we can make a museum out of the Geno leaks and rumors all the way from brawl days to this day

Nintendo’s latest tweet:

Of course it means nothing/is maybe just because of his birthday being this month + a joke, but given the speculation and info we have I thought it was funny. I think it’d be cool if we got a double reveal for Geno and Waluigi.
Waluigi is a Mythical Pokemon confirmed.

I'm not sure if this is underrated but I love the Nimbus Land theme:

Though if I had to pick, say, 3 tracks from SMRPG to appear in Smash, they would be beware the forest's mushrooms, goodbye Geno, and fight against a somewhat stronger monster.

Now that I think about it, I don't think I've heard fight against a somewhat stronger monster remixed, so if it got a Smash remix that would be really cool.

I miss when the Paper Mario games were Mario games with a paper aesthetic rather than paper games with a Mario aesthetic.

In regards to whether or not there will be a direct on Monday, I remember when a leaker didn't back down on the mini direct even though everyone thought he was going to be wrong because of no announcement, then we got it shadow dropped. So we shouldn't give up hope just yet.

Now if it has been delayed again, then honestly Nintendo deserves to have stuff leak out at that point.
