Geno thread, I would like to ask you all a devilish hypothetical that I haven't seen tossed around in recent memory. So, with the recent amiibo being shown off and how Sakurai said they'd be in limited supply it got me thinking...

Say that when a Geno amiibo comes out (because one will, as we know) but you couldn't get one for the normal store price. You go to whatever third party shopping website to get it (like eBay or something) and are determined to get your Geno amiibo no matter what.

How much are you willing to pay a scalper for a Geno amiibo? $50? $100? How far are you willing to go to get official merchandise for a character you have all wanted for years?

(Sorry I couldn't find a better visual)
View attachment 276004

(This situation came to mind because I need a :ultjoker: amiibo and I am prepared to pay exorbitant prices if I can't get it naturally...)
For Geno I'd go up to like $80. Maaaaybe $100+ if it's really cool which it will be.

Yeah, it could happen.

It depends the fight. In some cases, Mii Gunners might be less annoying. MegaMan is a pain in any HP-based match due to nearly free hits with his Neutral A.
See, I think my biggest problem with the Mii fights is that the ones they have you going against typically just do the bare minimum of trying to stand in for the actual characters, facially. Like, I know the Mii Maker is pretty narrow in what you can do, but if you know how to play around with it and do odd stuff, you can actually get things pretty close. Like for Knuckles, I remember I got a certain eye type and made it big and angled to fit the 'cutout' on the mii hat, and played around with the noses and beauty mark to make a black animal nose, and even a mustache - or wrinkles, don't remember - to try and define the 'muzzle' a bit more. There's a lot you can do even with head shape and make up to try and edge just a bit closer to 'this can maybe pass as the real thing if I squint'.
...And then you have something like this.

I know none of the skin tones available match the wood, but they didn't even try, it looks like. And, like I said, it's like they just sort of tried on his face. Compare that to this one someone made. See what I mean? It just feels like Nintendo/Sakurai-made Miis just feel extra fake, but maybe that's intentional, I dunno.

To be honest, I'm not bothered by the Mii faces.

I get what you mean, but I'm just glad to have a way to play as the character. There's a ton of costumes I'd love, even if the moveset isn't perfect. I'm the local Brian fan, and nothing even close to fits him for a costume, hat or outfit. Other than the bleh face, that's a really good costume.

Mii Costume faces don't always hit the mark, the Splatoon Mii Costumes in particular are infamous for that

I have to wonder - why doesn't the Geno hat fit on the Mii's head properly? Did they just screw up the size when making it and didn't bother changing it? Would there have been a clipping issue if it was fitted tighter to the head? Did they think that was how Geno's hat fit him?

Geno evolution in SuperSmashBros series. After 24 years, Geno will see the light and Shoots for Smash as Fighter #77. Credits to @NibrocRock on last photo!

After the Min Min epic victory and Spirit Upgrade stuff, wanted to repost that collage I made. I’m so happy for the Min Min alone playable-full fighter and Geno coming to Smash in a 100% chances (for me). Also, to finish the cake with Crash joining the battle for the epic worldwide win.

EDIT: fixed words.

Thinking of this whole Ness visual glitch business I'm reminded of the fighting polygons in Smash 64 and how they essentially reveal which characters were based on another during development. Captain Falcon used Samus as a base, Jigglypuff used Kirby as a base, and both Luigi and Ness used Mario as a base, in order to save resources (otherwise they probably wouldn't have had unlockable characters at all).

If you made a Smash 64 mod with Geno, you could feasibly use any of the fighting polygons on the left as a base. I think using Ness, whose original Smash design was essentially "Mario with magic powers" would be a brilliant fit for Geno--who functions, in SMRPG, as Mario with magic powers.

It's kinda surprising they didn't get all of the Smash 64 tracks for Ultimate. There weren't that many

It depends the exact ownership of each track/composers. Besides that, Nintendo won't necessarily say yes to all music asked for. It's also possible they never asked for some tracks.

Could also use some assets from Samus, namely her armgun.

Regardless, I also loved the Fighting Polygons. They were basically a classic NPC clone with less options. I've played as them and they are interesting since you have no special moves or throws. So you have to focus on your regular physical moves. If I remember right, they don't have attribute differences(defense/offense) naturally, and it's programmed in based upon the level of difficulty and where you fight them. So it's basically just playing an Echo with less options at that point. I forget if they has stuff like Samus' fire attacks for her Smash Up A, for instance. If Polygon Samus doesn't, this actually makes them stand out as more unique in some cases. Since they have less range too. Though not a lot of them have elemental attacks, so few stand out.

I've also played as Metal Mario, Giant Donkey Kong, and Master Hand. First two are basically just stronger but with the weakness of a worse recovery, and a huge hurtbox respectively, while Master Hand does not work at all in a lot of stages, other than Final Destination. In there, he not only has a Side B proper, he can be moved around anywhere. It's not dictated he move by activating a specific move. Though I think he can move freely again only in Ultimate?

Sakurai: We may alter more Spirit Board targets like this alongside future updates

Me:

Hey, so I haven't posted in here at all since that presentation the other day - the thread was moving so quickly I was just a little too caught up reading the discussion instead of taking part in it.

Seems like a lot of things continue to flow really well in Geno's favor - funny thing is I was busy during the actual presentation and had to carefully click Nintendo's latest video afterwards without spoiling it for myself, only to accidentally watch the Mii Costume showcase first. I love the fact that Sakurai was willing to tease the fans with another Terry-style trailer showing Spring Man with the Smash invite first - I feel like it really doesn't matter whether there are existing assist trophies or spirits, Sakurai gets who he wants (even though in this case it was Min Min). Hearing him talk about Spring Man, Ninjara and Min Min really gave me the impression that it wouldn't have been an obstacle had the creator of Arms asked directly for Spring Man, which again works in favor of any existing characters be they spirits or assist trophies.

Also, I had no idea there was already an existing code in the game for assist trophies to not appear on specific stages, I feel like that's a huge red flag in terms of what they could do should they choose to upgrade an assist trophy one day.

Anyway, I'm feeling really good about Geno - carry on being awesome folks.

I already contacted the person that MarcelinoBros92 MarcelinoBros92 said she does handmade dolls. It looks amazing! Thanks for the tip Chilean compatriot! Also from my same city: Santiago.

You can find her work in tienda_panda_freak on IG. Will be a fine addition to the room. A Geno doll, literally.

Note that when he said "Spirit Battles could change", it was in the context of Mii Costume stuff.

On another note;

ALTTP rando updated with some pretty cool costumes.
Hey, they finally added a Geno costume! Funny, I tried making one in this style before but I never finished it. The Celeste ones are nice, as is the Goose from UGG.

Princess Bubblegum as well. Surprisingly few Peach sprites on the site. BOTW Zelda and Momiji. Overall, a pretty good set.

I'm watching another SMRPG randomizer. Due to the right attacks/magic, it ended in Triple Geno. It's like Triple Seven, but with a Doll. :p

New spirit event is announced. Waluigi is one of the focused on characters. I'm not joking...

https://mobile.twitter.com/SmashBrosJP/status/1275598263773564928
Looking at the other spirit events, Waluigi related spirits were already part of other ones past years as well. Specifically the "Oh Yeah! Mario Time!" and "Step on the Gas!". Curiously, Geno hasn't been in ANY spirit events so far afaik, even one where it was spirits who wear capes. However, Min Min's spirit was included in "Cruisin' for a Bruisin'" which was in April 2019, which was before Min Min was decided most likely. IMO I think this means there's a good chance Waluigi's not getting in, because I don't think they'd still be using his spirit in events if he was chosen to be playable.

If we do see any further spirit events that feature newer spirits, I'm not certain how many we will see prior to FP7's reveal

Heh, looking at the new spirit event promo, anyone noticed something? There are two spirits close to Waluigi which belong to characters (or variations of them) that made it into the roster in Ultimate (base game); the Kaptain K. Rool, and Omega Ridley spirits (King K. Rool, and Ridley).:denzel: And before anyone goes on saying, "yeah but there's also another spirit to his left that's close to his as well and isn't a playable fighter". If we look at the positioning of the spirit wanted posters of Omega Ridley, Waluigi, and Kaptain K. Rool, the three are placed in a pattern that resemble a... well, what do you know, it looks like a reversed L (like the one printed on Waluigi's hat).

They might chalk up Min Min's spirit board as the new spirit spirit event this time and have another one at a further date.

I'm wondering if it's a Square Enix copyright thing. Third party spirits really don't show up a lot in these themed events, do they?

It seems like every third party but Square Enix has, actually. E-102 Gamma was in a mech/robot themed one, a Bayonetta character was in the first one which was about glasses, Mega Man got his own without even getting new spirits plus some were in a sword related one, Akuma was in the "Cruisin' for a Bruisin'" one I mentioned earlier, Castlevania got their complete own without new spirits as well and so on and so forth.

Wow you really could be onto something there. This is very odd indeed.

It's been a full day since Min Min and I am still feeling great about our Star Boy's chances! One thing I am curious about is whether Nintendo will acknowledge that Min Min's Spirit battle will change or are they gonna be hush hush about it? It is kind of a BIG deal imo.

I present you all with a Geno/Min Min hybrid that I'm not sure on how to name, guess I will go with Mino Mino.

I don't really think that spirit events mean anything in general. The theme and characters are likely done as an afterthought, and who even knows if Sakurai himself has a ton of involvement with creating/deciding the spirit events. At worst it would mean that Waluigi isn't character 7, but even then that's pushing it. Though with that said, like you I don't think Geno and Mallow have ever been featured in spirit events. But it's not like they're in an extremely unique position in there either, I don't think Rex has ever been featured but Pyra/Mythra get featured a ton. I mean he didn't even show up in Smash by the Sword when Pyra/Mythra did.

All in all, spirit events are just there for fun/filler activities. I doubt that they're trying to send the message that Spirit events deconfirm at all (unless its completely new spirits).

I know people will disagree with me on this but I think this does hit Waluigi pretty hard.
  • Past Precedent/Basic Logical Deduction tells us that unless they're from a game still being actively worked on, whatever first party characters they've chosen to add will show up first and foremost due to lack of negotiations needed.
  • All the characters in the pass have clearly been delayed in some regard, so atleast 7 and likely 8 as well were meant to be revealed at E3 before everything went down
  • The Lack of Min Min spirit on the Arms Spirit Board tells us that while I don't think they are removing upgraded spirits (Sakurai literally spent part of the video talking about changing spirit battles with new DLC) they might be making them less prominent and not show up in events
Very INTERESTING turn of events.

I think it will be like CupHead, if you don't have min min you fight Corrin, but if you have she it will be She, i just want to know what happen in classic mode
That's SO cursed

We're already halfway done with this year and we only got on character so far. Do you think we'll get three by the end of this year? When do you think the next one is coming? I think some of ya'll mentioned possibly July right?
If we are getting three (which I doubt we will due to corona), it probably is something like this
Arms - end of this month
Fighter 7 - September or October.
Fighter 8 - December

It still counts.
Not really, concidering you said the Deus stuff is "iffy" since we don´t have any dues games right now... they could add them in and put the games later.

Well...do we pack it in for the Purple Man?
I say we pack it in if Geno get¨s in (or vice versa for Geno if Waluigi gets in). There is no way they are doing two Mario characters in the fighters pass because of "anniversary"... With that logic, there will be two Zelda characters next year concidering Zelda celebrates 35 next year. I mean, both Skull Kid and Midna are highly requested characters... Just saying...
