Ngl Nintendo needs to drop a ton of NSO games to keep us entertained during the quarantine lol (SMRPG plz and thanks)
At this point, I'll take the direct with DLC 6 reveal (hopefully Geno).

I'm kinda of the same mind when it comes to Namco reps although I don't really have any personal stock in any of them except Nightmare/Yoshimitsu and I'd love to see Kloana cuz I love mascot characters and I like Kloana's design. But I see these Lloyd (and I'd argue Heihachi as well) fans who've been pushing for a long time and I just want to see them have their wish granted so much more than I want some of my own preferences to make it in.
I'd love to see Lloyd get in personally as I think he'd be a fun addition to the roster, being a very agile dual swordsman. I mean, if all swordsmen have one sword, imagine how everyone would feel about a TWO SWORDS SWORD-USER?!

Exactly. It's why I was thrilled to see Ridley, K.Rool and Banjo all get in.
For sure, even though I personally didn't care all that much about Ridley, and KKR was pretty neat but I was more happy for people who have been wanting them forever. Byleth was the only one I was just like "literally why" over (though after realizing it meant 3H music was coming, I was pretty over it). Even Dark Samus and Chrom I was like "glad those people got what they wanted".

Though Isabelle I was sad over because she usurped Nook's rightful spot as the second AC rep.

I never really was too familiar with Metroid or Banjo (aside from Diddy Kong Racing) but at some point you just feel good for fans who got what they wanted. I just hope we can experience what those fans went thru during their most wanted character's reveal.
Ridley was actually my number 2 most wanted and KKR was number 4 so those reveals were incredible for me. But Banjo wasnt really on my radar because I didn't grow up with or ever play those games but I had friends who had Banjo as their most wanted and was aware of his demand for Smash so that reveal was definitely the most exciting for me in FP1. Plus he's a mascot character and ended up being the one I found the most fun to play.

I will admit Joker was a huge reveal for me as well even tho I don't play Persona. I used to play SMT and he was just so unexpected and blew speculation wide open. I don't think I would be here at all if it weren't for Joker cuz after seeing him was when I actually wanted to get involved in speculation and try to support Geno in some way cuz Joker made me believe anyone was possible.

Anyway fan demand is why I even care about some characters at all like Shantae and BWD that I otherwise wouldn't have any desire to see in Smash. Some fandoms just seem so genuine that it's hard not to root for them above even my own desires.

I'm kind of doubting this unless it's still on the Switch. A port even like this requires them to do all the licensing over again, as it's a new game even then. That's why a lot of ports have to cut things, because they're not part of the same contract.

I mean, it's not impossible the licensing agreement is that all future ports of Ultimate are treated as "licensed" for use. But you have to consider that companies also have to be sure of the future of a franchise or whether it could happen or not. When it comes to an agreement, it's very very rare for someone to agree with a "just in case it happens in the future". That would also make them want more money for future usage as is. That, and we have been confirmed there's no Smash games coming out after Ultimate in the future at this time. Now, whether or not a Port counts as that is a good question, but Sakurai isn't often that vague, and I doubt he has plans for a port either. Maybe Nintendo has an idea they haven't said at all yet, sure, but that's the most I'd give it.

Not that I'm against a port, but I don't see it that likely, that's all. I'd love the idea, if it means you get even more content. :)
SMRPG is already a fundamentally great game, the only way a remake would improve upon it would be to improve the graphics. Geno in Smash is a lot more significant.
I agree for all the complications that come with licensing stuff. If it wasn't for the third party characters , and mostly Konami and SE stuff (wich seem to be the most in danger , SEGA , Capcom , Bamco , and Microsoft seem to be doing fine and are often more willing to allow their characters to be in Smash) a port would actually seem pretty easy.
Sakurai is always the kind of man to think that every game is the last , so he'll do everything he can for it. And well , as I said before , I think it's a bit soon to talk about a port , especially when Fighter Pass 2 is not even fully revealed.
Getting a port would indeed be a very interesting situation. I really want that to happen for a simple reason :
Sakurai can still work on Smash on a more reasonnable scale , AND , he can work on another game franchise. I love what he did with Kid Icarus uprising , and would love to see him tackle some old school Nintendo franchises , like Mysterious Murasame Castle , or Panel de Pon.

Actually , since Iv'e been replaying through SMRPG as of late... I could think on quite some tweaks and changes that could improve the game. Not saying SMRPG is bad , far from it , but the games has some issues that could be dealt with to make the overall experience more enjoyable :

-Rebalancing some characters. Nerf Peach healing power , and buff Bowser's magic (making him focused around status effects would be interesting). Bowser's role of slow HP bag hitting hard character get outclassed by Geno sadly.
-Adding the first strike mechanic to ennemies on the overworld.
-Allowing Mario to be out of the Party , to allow different combinations. (He would come back for scripted events , like for the johnathan Jones boss fight)
-Allowing people to read the description and stats of equipments on the shop
-Making the window for timed blocks of some ennemies more clear. Make magic blockable in a way , but make it hard , like the super guard from PMTTYD.
-Make platforming easier by adding analog support , and making the jumps a tiny bit more floaty.
-Adding an hard mode
-Adding Luigi as an optional party member. He would be a more defensive Mario , with wackier attacks.
-MAKE GENO INTERACT WITH MORE CHARACTERS , LET THE BOY TALK. Mallow character's arc is super complete and his personnality shine , so I'm a bit sad that Geno doesn't change much from the beginning to the end. (Give him a parallel to Mallow by making him the serious guy who learn to relax and enjoy things / or still keep his serious and focused attitude , but make him interact in funny manners with others characters , breaking his serious attitude , like he's in awe of people's silly aspects , laid-back attitude , or stuff like that. Also , please... Make him more invested in Star Hill when you read the wish , to show how important all of this is to him.)

But still , I love this game. So I hope a remake would bring more than a graphical update.

Geno in Smash without question. If Geno get's into Smash he will be immortalize forever in the video game hall of fame.
Honestly, he wasn't already? Dude's been getting up there despite being obscure at one point.

But hey, if getting him in makes it better...

Though as one who has played the game often, I've found the mini-games and isometric stuff to be really difficult to work with too. So I wouldn't mind a remake to tone down stuff like the timing on the Jumping mini-game so it has some more leeway. It's a bit tedious to do that many jumps as is, and hard on one's fingers. And I really really like 100% completion. Besides that, isometric makes some of the platforming really difficult. Bowser's Castle(the second visit) constantly drove me insane on how easy it was to mistime the jump and fall into the lava. The mini-games in it weren't bad, though, it's just the ones that need perfect timing feel a bit too unfair.

That, and logically, Nintendo needs a big name to start the last season of DLC off. Geno would certainly get people talking if he were FP6, and given that he doesn't belong to one of Square's signature IPs, I don't think they would be nearly as strict like they were with Cloud or the DQ heroes.

Ridley, Joker, K Rool, and Banjo were my numbers 1,2,3, and 5 respectively. Geno was 4, but is now 1 since he's the only one left. I've gotten ridiculously lucky this game, and if Geno gets in I'll have all my top 5. Pretty crazy.

SSGuy SSGuy before Ultimate K. Rool was my number 2, Ridley was my number 3 and Banjo & Kazooie were my number 4. I'm thrilled as hell they're all in. Now if only my boi Goemon can get promoted from a Mii costume to a playable character.

You think the color for Geno's eyes will be red like the original render or a darker color like the Smashified render?

The former. I think since most if not all of the characters are pretty saturated, Geno's palette in general will be pretty saturated as well.

Why does my post on your quote say MattX20 MattX20 instead of my name? Is that a glitch?

What games you guys are currently playing during your isolation? I've been replaying SMRPG, plan to play Breath of the Wild and Battletoads too this week during my vacation.

I've just about finished another All Shrines run of BotW, complete with Champion's Ballad DLC. I'm planning on trying a run where I get the Master Sword as early as I possibly can. I've also spent some time playing Super Metroid, A Link to the Past, and A Link Between Worlds.

Most of the games I have been playing are brand new experiences for me including Psychonauts and Animal Crossing (This is my first one so I am going into it blind)

However I have also been streaming Super Mario RPG for StarLight Children's Foundation as well as Team Fortress 2 (because I can't get enough of it and I just want to play good Comp games)

Been wanting to do more for the charity but it was launched at a pretty unfortunate time where money has grown tight for everyone. Regardless, I am still going to do my best to make sure we hit this goal for Operation StarFall. The least I can do is play and attempt to get us at least to half way.

I've been playing KH3 Remind DLC along with Nier Automata for the first time. Gotta say, Geno is still my number one pick for Smash DLC, but I'm starting to see the appeal with 2B. Her dual sword techniques are flashy and interesting. It kind of looks like water bending from Avatar the last air bender, but with katanas instead of water. There's some gun play that mixes up the melee combat too. Pretty interesting stuff.

I definitely relate with what I see from 2B. As much of a gut punch it would be to see her get into the game, I can still at least respect the type of character she would be. Highly requested, cool moveset potential etc. In a perfect world, we would get both Geno and 2B

But the problem is, it's one or the other as companies generally don't double dip. Unless if Geno and all characters for Super Mario RPG were bought out by Nintendo in secret, I'm not sure we'll see another SE character in this last wave

At very least, it would make me far less bitter knowing that she's not just another generic swordsman. Plus, we don't have very many combo-oriented swordies, so that could be fun.

It kind of sucks, but I agree with you. There's a 99% chance that it'll be one or the other. Too bad SE hordes all the cool, edgy characters.

So ... I haven't found anything about the Fighter's Pass Physical release ... has it been delayed? That's the only assumption I can make since there hasn't been anything for those who bought it and booted it up.

As far as I can tell, it has been released digitally. The cards probably haven't been shipped yet is my guess

The physical release (the card) is out from what I've seen, though presumably it's the exact same as if you bought the second Fighters Pass through the eShop.

How many of you guys are in the Geno push in the hopes his newfound popularity will allow a Super Mario RPG remake or sequel to happen?
This is a post/rant I've been meaning to make for awhile and it's partially related to this so this seems as good a time as ever to post it. Has alot to do with why I want Geno (aside from him just being a really cool character/design/moveset potential and me loving Mario RPG) and the whole "I wish Geno showed up in other games/it makes more sense for him to show up in Mario again before Smash" stuff people throw around.

Let's actually take a look at how the Mario RPG's are represented in Smash. Yes this has a point and I'll tie it back around later so just stick with me.
  • Melee : Peach uses the Frying Pan, neat. Paper Mario gets a trophy but it was also not even a year old yet so its great that it got anything. Can't be mad here since the franchise was literally only two games in and melee was rushed out the door anyway. Glad it got anything.
  • Brawl : Ok, it's been 6-7 years, Mario RPG's are running two different franchises right now, 6 games, and people like them a lot. And we get...1 song. In the entire game. It's a great remix of Gritzy Desert, done by Yoko even, but really? That's the most representation the RPG's get? No Stage, no assist trophy, sure as hell not a character. I guess there's a bunch of Trophies ripped from Super Paper Mario, and Goombella I guess, as well as even more Stickers from all the games, so that's, really neat I guess? You could argue Mario's and especially Peach's Final Smash are based off SMRPG but eh?
  • Smash Bros 4 : Ok, it's been another 6-7 years, both franchises still actually doing well (even if Sticker Star is garbo) so let's see what we get. AN ACTUAL STAGE! It's...based on two thirds Sticker Star. Um, ok... based on the start of that game and just the front of Bowser's Castle? Well, atleast we get a third based off Thousand Year Door, the... S.S Flavion? Of all the locations, why this? It's not even unique to Smash as a ship stage! I guess it let them work in the Blooper and the Whale, so that's neat. As for music we have...4 whole tracks. AND THEY CUT Gritzy desert. Greeaaaaaaaat. And we have TWO remixes this time. The Paper Mario Medley... which starts with Sticker Star again, which I'm fine with since atleast that game has a good soundtrack, a thirty second snippet of Rougeport, which sounds great but why is it playing on the S.S. Flavion? Whatever, and last we have... Sticker Star, again, EXCEPT IT'S JUST THE GODDAMN AIRSHIP THEME, WHY? I GET IT, IT'S IN STICKER STAR, BUT STILL, WHY??? IT EVEN ALREADY HAS A REMIX IN SMASH THERE ARE LIKE 5 OTHER ORIGINAL PAPER MARIO SONGS THAT WOULD HAVE FIT HERE, UHHHHHG. And for the other remix we have Try Try Again, done again by Yoko, and while it's nice to have an ACTUAL BATTLE THEME get remixed, I honestly think it sounds way worse than the original, but that's pretty subjective so whatever. For the two other tracks we have direct rips of Tough Guy Alert and Grand Finale from Inside Story, which are great choices. But still, only 4 whole tracks, really? Well, in terms of other stuff, Bowser Jr. uses the Eekhamemr from Sticker Star in his pummel? Riveting. No Items or Assist Trophies. 8 trophies in each game atleast, all from Sticker Star in the 3DS version and from the other Paper Mario games in the Wii U verison, neat. Geno got a Mii Costume as DLC, which I honestly take because atleast it's some real acknowledgement.
  • Ultimate : 10 whole musics tracks, wow, what an upgrade. They brought back Gritzy Desert, and the other 5 are... just direct rips from Paper Jam, Color Splash, and Superstar Saga DX. Better than last game I suppose. The Paper Mario Stage is back, and now there TWO WHOLE SONGS FROM PAPER MARIO TO PLAY ON IT. Pirahna Plant turns into a Putrid Piranha to spit poison, an actual special move in a moveset, that's way more than we usually get, damn. No items, no assist trophies, but atleast we have 19 spirits right? That's actually less than the amount of Stickers than the games got in Brawl, not even mentioning trophies, but who's counting? Atleast all the games got spirits this time?

Just put this into perspective, (and don't take this as complaining about Byleth/Fire Emblem/Three Houses, I don't really mind the game got representation, I'm just using it as a comparison point.) Fire Emblem Three Houses, 1 GAME, got a character, a stage, 11 music tracks, and 12 Spirits in one DLC pack, which is about just as much, IF NOT MORE, than the entire Mario RPG franchise has gotten after 5 Smash games.

The most annoying part about this? This mediocre representation is still by far the best acknowledgment the RPG's actually get by the Mario franchise and Nintendo in general. Nothing from the RPG's is ever used, seen, or mentioned outside of the RPG's, EVER. Thousand Year Door got a reference in ANIMAL CROSSING before getting awknowledged in a Mario Game that wasn't another RPG. They got referenced all the time in the Mid-2000's, look! Bowser's Castle in Super Circuit, the Goomba King in 64 DS, the Star Spirits in Mario Party 5, and a bunch of other small stuff. But once you hit the Wii era? Gone. Check the Mario wiki on this stuff. Seriously, the reason people go crazy over stuff like Hello, Happy Kingdom getting a remix in Fortune Street, or the Yo'ster Cookies in Crafted World (which we aren't even entirely sure is supposed to be a reference) isn't because the Geno/Mario RPG community is a bunch of crazy conspirators looking for shreds of evidence, it's because it's so rare to get awknowledged in ANY real capacity. Christ, E GADD and DIDDY KONG can't even get in Mario Kart 8, and people still think Nintendo wants to acknowledge the Mario RPG's outside of their ever shrinking bubble?

If I'm being perfectly honest, I think Geno is more likely to be playable in Ultimate than for Nintendo to actually acknowledge the RPG's in a spinoff, let along a main Mario game. Hell, it might even be more likely than an actual return to form Mario RPG at this point. Alphadream is dead, so I don't expect anything Mario and Luigi related in the future, and I outright don't trust the Paper Mario team at all. Even if they are working on a new game, I still think they will mess it up, I stand by that. They just don't get why people like those games, or atleast don't want to make them.

Atleast for something like Geno they can go, "Oh yea, he's really popular in the Smash Community, let's add him as the fan pick, and then Sakurai can actually work his magic and represent them well for once.

Beat FE3H for the 2nd time. I really enjoyed New Game + a lot and I'll probably go back to play through the other 2 routes at some point. The game has a truly incredible story but I still think Byleth is beyond boring.

Slowly playing through Mother 1 but not as invested in that. I'm still working my main job so I still don't have that much more free time on my hands. I'm thinking about picking up a new game or two since I do have a little more time but I'm undecided on which one(s).

Star Hill was actually a really cool part of the game. It is a shame the segment is so short with very little to do. It is more or less just there as a set piece. (A beautiful one at that)

I think if this game were to get a sequel or a future RPG utilized it in the future, it should be a hub for side quests (one represented by a wish that you must complete in order to send it off) Give Star Hill more meaning if they decide to use it again.

That would be the one thing I change. Aside from the obvious of nerfing Peach.

The main one I've been playing lately is Earthbound. I can usually only play one game that's more time consuming at once though, so other than that, I'm only really playing stuff that's quick and easy to pick up and play, like Smash, Splatoon 2 and whatever I feel like playing on my DS. Maybe after I'm done with it, I can start replaying a certain other cult classic RPG from the SNES if you catch my drift, heh.

If It helps clear up your backlog faster, you could try out Earthbound's automatic battles Mode.

Just if you want to get through It faster, if not it's ok.

I've done that with some of the more tedious battles, lmao. Usually I just prefer doing them myself though, feels more rewarding too. I like to take my sweet time with games like these.

That's really good too!

It is really satisfactory to overcome some tough battles after enough effort.
