All I have to say is if what is in this direct was enough to push Pokemon, Smash, and Animal Crossing, the latter of which being one of their major releases this year, into their own events, I think the wait will be more than worth it.

DK platformer. Paper Mario that isn't total ass. For example... The last totally original 2D Metroid game? 2002. It's literally been 18 years since Metroid Fusion. This is why Nintendo's probably pissed about that getting out. On topic, this is yet another reason why I'm confident in Geno this year because so much of these rumors revolve around stuff that people have been begging and pleading forever for. If Geno's happening, it's this year. Nintendo's supposedly lost its mind but in the best of ways.

Maybe updated to not be SNES-quality, but still the same sounds. I'd argue it greatly depends on the moves, but some of them are iconic. Boost, Blast, and Flash are all instantly recognizable to me, while Beam and Whirl are reused IIRC. As for weapon attacks, all(?) of them are pretty memorable, especially Hand Cannon and Star Gun. Assuming he keeps similar attacks and specials, I would like them to be pretty similar to their original sounds.

If for example he got "Typical Samus Charge Shot" for Geno Beam, I'd like if it uses the charging sound effect for Beam/Blast/Flash (where you hold Y during the stars lighting up) for charging the shot. Blast I want that really high-pitched and annoying crashing sound effect; there's something weirdly satisfying about those beams of light crashing down on his enemies. Obviously a turn-based RPG and a real-time not-fighting game like Smash are completely different games, but I think they could make them work.

Yeah I knew they were separate, I'm just wondering if both are still in play. Also Zippo's already got some level of credibility after AC direct on the 20th; given how probably pissed Nintendo is though, I won't be surprised if they're messing w/ the direct date to "discredit" people like him and his source. Even if there isn't a direct this week, I'd still trust someone to some degree who got something right (and isn't using the Twitter trick) over someone who didn't.

I still think Zippo had no reason to mess with ERA so yeah I think he was reporting on legit information he got from his sources that ended up being wrong.

Real question is what will be this 2D Metroid game? I'm honestly thinking it'll be a new game entirely since Fusion is the only real option for a remake since Metroid and Metroid 2 got their remakes and Super Metroid doesn't need a remake. Hell, I'll be bold and say that the game is a sequel (chronologically) to Fusion.

Over the weekend, we had a pretty successful turn out for our Discord Server Tournament with 48 entrants. Geno support has been growing as of late and currently we have been able to record a total of 11,675 unique wishes for Geno. This number has been a little on the slower side lately but this is expected. Plus as a team, we slowed down a bit due to the Fighter's Pass having already been decided.

However, it has picked up again and is seeing some traction due to rumors or cries of impatience for a Nintendo Direct. Any time Smash Bros is mentioned or is in the news. people will come out like "Oh yeah, it would be pretty sick to see Geno in Smash Bros finally" or "With rumors of a new Paper Mario, I hope Geno can come back" and in turn, they find their way to us. It happened during Terry Bogard's reveal as well as Byleth's reveal.

Lately I was asking myself "Do people honestly care what we are doing?" or are we just an out of touch fanbase that some overly obsessed GameFaq weebs claim us to be? But I came across this comment when checking my news feed and it made me believe we definitely have the silent majority on our side.

I have many more examples from this weekend alone, but these are the two I would like to showcase for now.

I truly believe we have a lot more people supporting us than most would like to claim and regardless of the outcome, it makes me happy to know people don't see our passion as a waste.

The majority of the Smash Bros community is definitely on our side, even if Geno isn't their first pick. They know it would mean the world to millions of people around the world and I am hoping Nintendo sees that too!

Exactly, Geno may not be the first pick for everyone, but there is no denying that this character has been wanted by a lot of people for a long time (as in over a decade).

This made me think of a cool mechanic for Geno. Whenever he knockouts another character, he has a low chance to get a Bonus Flower. This would boost his attack, defense, or give him a significant heal for the remainder of his current life. This probability would be pretty low, similar to Hero's critical hits. To make it not overpowered, the boosts wouldn't be as strong as Monado arts, but for attack boost maybe something similar to Wii Fit Trainer's Deep Breathing. If done right, it wouldn't come up in every match, but it could be a cool way to give Geno a momentum/comeback mechanic while reference SMRPG. What do you all think?

Edit: Actually I just realised I was thinking about the bonus flower thing in SMRPG that happens when you defeat an enemy. I originally was thinking of Get a Freebie and edited this post to say Bonus Flower, but regardless the quoted post made me think of this mechanic.

Definitely. I personally can't imagine Geno not having them in some capacity. Cloud's hit sounds are based on the FF7 sound effects I believe. A handful of other characters also have sound effects from their games for certain moves. It's definitely a detail they would go for

I personally would like to see Crash. He's the one of the more bigger gaming icons not yet in Smash. Similarly, I'd also like to see Master Chief because I know that'd be huge and would break the internet. Although it's a long shot, I'd like another Zelda character that isn't Zelda, Ganondorf, or Link. Literally anyone would be cool with me. Anything to give Zelda better representation

On who I'm expecting though? List is pretty close to Fatman minus Waluigi. I think it'll probably be Crash, Geno, Lloyd, Dante, & Master Chief + some curve ball 3rd party character. I initially had Ryu Hayabusa due to rumors but those rumors are starting to look iffy now so no clue who I'd put for that last slot

Even if this thread wasn't unrelated rumor mill central half the time, I'd still lurk since I like Geno, just like I lurk a ton of threads and post in some of them since if I was given the time, I could probably name thousands of characters I want in Smash (obviously a fraction of that have support threads here). I don't think I'm any more of an outsider than the mod that wanted 2B more than Geno in here.

And whether the rumors are credible or not doesn't change the fact it's alleged insider information. When I wrote for a site, I got the same kind of info and not everything panned out, but some stuff that did was not known anywhere else.

I hope you're right cuz then I'm sure profits will skyrocket and Nintendo will know from now on that occasionally it's a great idea to go all in with fan requests and make a killing in between their own projects.

You know I really don't see her chances as super great either, but I'm open to the possibility she could be in due to all the Shantae merchandise coming out lately all at once like the Totaku and Funco POP figures. It could definitely mean nothing or just promotion for Seven Sirens upcoming release, but the whole situation here reminds me of all the Banjo-Kazooie merchandise that came out last year before their reveal at E3. I really hope that is a sign she is in, but I'm not going to put complete faith in that. I would give her chances a 50/50 right now honestly.

A lot of people will ask the obvious question of "who is left?", just like they do with other franchises like Kirby, and to that I'd ask for Impa as she's been in more games than not. Hell she was even in the original, and like Link and Zelda through each game, she's a different person every time.

I'd personally like to see her in her OoT/Hyrule Warriors version (not necessarily the kit of HW, just the style), as I believe that's how most people remember her (except people who only played BotW, in which case she's just some old hag, lol).

As for what I want or hope for, they're not exactly the same thing, and most of the stuff I hope for is mostly 1st party since I feel like there are some gaps missing such as Impa, Porky, BWD, Dixie Kong, and Waluigi, all of which are Nintendo IPs and I feel should be in, but that leaves a lot less room for 3rd party.

Who I hope gets in? Hmm...

Master Chief, Geno, Crash, Crono, Sora, and Shadow. Definitely not gonna happen, but these are my most wanted. Chief and Geno are way above the others, Crash and Chief I want for gaming mascots to get in, Crono is from my favorite JRPG(and one of my favorite) game, Sora because of his popularity, and Shadow cause I am a big Sonic fan. I'd take Tails and Eggman there, but I think Shadow would be easier to implement.
