You know, someone mentioned Captain N a little while ago, and I actually legitimately want him in Smash. He's technically not a video game character, but he's much in the same category as ROB, where he was created purely to promote the NES and I think he'd be okay because of that. ..Not to mention that the N-Team is almost entirely recreated in Ultimate as it is, save for Duke and Lana. At the very least, I really want a Mii Gunner costume that wields an NES blaster as a weapon. Doesn't even have to be wearing the school jacket or anything.
You guys are taking Jon's side because it fits in favor that these deconfirmed characters are still on the table. This is all Jon's opinion, just like how he made that video saying Assist Trophies & Spirits could be the Fifth Fighter. He doesn't have any knowledge or insider info, just his opinions.
I’m taking Jon’s side because I’m tired of playing “Guess Who?”. The novelty has worn off, this deconfirmation game is stupid and is starting to seem less and less plausible.
If they’re able to deconfirm so many companies than they would have to know who the character is at this point, I don’t know why they wouldn’t just come out and say who it is unless they’re just trying to garner attention.
Pardon for interrupting the current discussion but...
Yes, yes, YESSSS!!! I completely agree (mostly) with the ranking shown on this video, ESPECIALLY with Pauline being ranked #1. Some may think that in terms of strength, etc., etc. she might not be deserving of said spot, but personally, and ever since I saw her making her return in Super Mario Odyssey, I was glad that the original prima donna was back in business (and DAYUM she's been putting in work for being the New Donk City Mayor).
Pauline's story is one that although mostly can be considered fan-theory, but by simply looking back at where she first appeared, what was her role then, and what her role is now; Pauline is a story of overcoming a stereotype (the damsel in distress), and success (becoming THE Mayor of a metropolitan city). Back in the early days of the gaming industry, the Arcade/Nintendo game Donkey Kong introduced Pauline as the typical damsel that needed rescuing from the clutches of Donkey Kong (who according to in-game text from the Donkey Kong Country games, that Donkey Kong was apparently Cranky Kong...?). Thanks to the hero who back then went by the name of Jump Man (Mario soon afterwards), Pauline was seemingly lost in history as other damsels in distress were introduced within the Super Mario Bros. franchise (Toadstoll; soon afterwards commonly referred to as Princess Peach, and Daisy who first appeared in Super Mario Land on the Game Boy). Years passed, and the name of Pauline seemed to have been forgotten... until Super Mario Odyssey released in late 2017. Nintendo remembered her, and not only brought her back, but redesigned her look, and character to reflect a woman that from a damsel that had passed through the unpleasant experience of being kidnapped by a giant ape a-la King Kong, at some point throughout the years she stepped up and decided to find her place in life. Not as just another princess, but as something more. In Odyssey we see that she seems to have made a name for herself as a singer (perhaps prior to becoming Mayor), and even has her own band. Ultimately, we meet her once again as the mayor of the bustling metropolis that is New Donk City; with numerous references to the original Donkey Kong game, as well as to the Donkey Kong Country games (the street names). There's a specific Power Moon that contains dialogue between Mario and Pauline that let's us know that she does in fact remember Mario, and despite her not having been around through all of these years, and Mario mostly saving the Mushroom Kingdom and being around Peach, Pauline is fine with all that. She's become her own person, her own star; head of a big city and own band. That ladies and gents, in my humblest opinion, merits the acknowledgment of Pauline's return to the limelight. Heck, she's even made it to Mario Tennis Aces, AND Mario Kart Tour (which could mean the next console Mario Kart game will most likely include her).
With that... a Kero Kero Cola toast Genobros. Hopes are feeling good for Geno, and Super Mario RPG's bound to release soon for the SNES Library.
Nah man, Jon is right. Insiders nowadays mostly seek attention and this entire game with guessing which company is still relevant for the 5th fighter is getting ridiculous. If you know a name, why don't you mention it? It happened when we just began speculating on the 1st DLC fighter.
I know that Sabi might get into real troubles if their name is legit, but that's also Sabi's fault for literally announcing that they're going to spoil the entire Nintendo E3 presentation beforehand and then getting a cease and desist letter. If you seriously need to leak something, turn on VPN and go to 4chan, you don't really need the attention :^)
I don't view Jon as an innocent member. If anything he is probably upset he wont be able to make money off of these characters if people hear them ahead of time.
He's just being a big baby about this whole thing.
Either Sabi and Verge and right or wrong. Big deal if they are or are not. Not worth throwing a tantrum over considering the amount of pointless trash clickbait they generate. It is hard for me to feel bad for them.
Thats dumb. If they wanted, they could make videos covering Sabi and Verge like every other bottom feeder but they don’t because this whole thing is a circus.
And Jon has every right to be annoyed at being affiliated with/piggybacked off of by Verge and, apparently Sabi now.
“Ooh they’re just jealous” is such a ridiculous and lazy position.

Man if today has proven one thing it's that it sucks to be a leaker. All they are is middlemen and yet the entirety of the frustration from horrible speculation cycles gets thrown their way.
Say the name or don't. You're a LEAKER. You leak things. When you're in a news drought like this, people want answers, so they come to you. If you're unable to provide that answer, either because you're afraid to or you just have a massive ego or both, then maybe you shouldn't be leaking things.
That said, I honestly don't think we should even have insider circles, and I hate that they even exist in the first place. All it's done is cause harm.
Edit: Geno/Doomguy VGA reveal I'm obviously biased towards (lol) and I'm with everyone else backing it.
>6 days to go until VGA's >insiders going at each others throats >gamexplain calling out Sabi and Verge >Smash speculation having a breakdown over not knowing who FP5 is either because they genuinely don't know or because Nintendo will sue them

He literally doesn't know anything and yet leakers have been using his words to bolster their claims and dragging him into their BS anyway. People are "siding" with him because they feel like they're being strung along by leakers and because Jon is clearly justifiably annoyed.
I'm on Jon's side with this drama. This whole "who is #5" era of speculation has been annoying to say the absolute least. If you're credible come out and say the name don't just give us wishy-washy disconfirmations you're a leaker that's what you're supposed to do. I'd honestly prefer the slower trickle of insider information with a concrete "it's this character" to what we have now.

@JDCabrera My dude, your concept for Pauline is sick. I don't care what anyone says. She'd be great in Smash and has a lot more potential than people give her credit for, especially with taking MvDK, DK Arcade, and Odyssey into account. Ya just have to get creative like you did here.
Anyhow... personally, I'm not backing Jon for 'inside info' (although I do think he has some, he rarely ever shows it, the only real example being the FF7/9/10/11 thing, notably excluding FF8), because he absolutely doesn't want to be an 'insider' or 'leaker'. That's the big difference between him and Verge/Sabi. I just think Jon made a prediction that one time or whatever because of rumors, and it just so happened to be true. He doesn't want the attention and the crap that comes with 'insider culture', and people shouldn't treat him as one and look excessively into things he says/does. I'm not surprised he wants his hands washed of that.
Being a Nintendo ambassador, yeah, it'd be no surprise that he may know about Directs a little beforehand, and that's when people start pointing at the otters... but he's been drifting away from doing that. I don't blame him ONE BIT. I wouldn't want to deal with that either. He isn't here for this.
I am, however, glad that someone with a larger audience and Nintendo connections of sorts had the gonads to call Verge/Sabi out for their behavior. Whether or not they're fine people otherwise, this kind of behavior over inside stuff rubs me off the wrong way.
I'd take that stance too if I didn't feel doom was a massive stretch without something tangible to back it up. It would fit pretty well though if that was the case doom is a perfect character to show to the game awards audience.
Well we have the Cacomallow leak still, Doomguy hasnt left general speculation since December, and Bethesda was in Smash talks with Nintendo. Theres a lot more there than just “Doom isnt 5 trust me guys”

My point is doomguy checks all the red flags for a character not being smash material. The fact that the insiders had heard 0 info about him as a possibility to this day just adds to that. Cacomallow is the only reason I ever entertained the idea to begin with and since it has been shown to be "possible" someone could have made it I'm just going to keep my chips in my pile and wait to see what Geoff has to show us. That said a deconfirmed character is starting to feel more likely so he's certainly on my mind untill the leak is proven false.
I'm normally not one to buy into "Everything is a conspiracy", but I always DID find it very odd that Geoff would openly acknowledge Sabi, the most notorious leaker on the scene right now especially after Sabi very publicly got nailed by Nintendo at E3
So... wouldn't that be something, huh?
Anyways, Keyblades and Star Roads are back on the menu, lads
Look I'm going to say I think the state of speculation is really sad. We are only mad at Sabi and Verge because of the frustration with not being able to get what we want. As far as we know their source has told them everything they have told us meaning they aren't the ones holding out on us yet as the face of leaks we direct our anger their way. By all means not believe their info if you wish, but instead of being mad at them calm down and recognize the problem isn't what they are telling us but rather that we let speculation get to a point where we can't progress without 1 or 2 key individuals dictating the flow of speculation.

I just like the chaos. I think it's hilarious. Plus they chose that path. If they didn't drop hints, they wouldn't get any questions. What's the point of being an insider/leaker if you don't actually leak anything? You just turn into an internet LARPer.

I hold no resentment against Sabi and Verge. They’re probably working with what they’re told, I can understand and respect that. I’m simply unhappy with how they’re handling this situation, and I’m starting to doubt their credibility.

No, we're fed up with Sabi and Verge because they've been playing this BS wishy-washy game of Guess Who for a month rather than give us concrete info. Most people here would rather they went dark then gave us info sporadically than the current state of affairs.

It's not a jealousy thing but how many times have you seen GameXplain do this in the past and humor leaks? I think Jon is looking for more clout with this situation. Considering he gets monetization from this kind of stuff, he is the last guy into this situation I would really want to side with.
But I just want Geno so I've been wanting to put FP5 behind us since day one and just be hopeful for post pass.
