I only played Soul Calibur 2 or 3 a long time ago for only a little bit. With that said, Soul Calibur seems interesting and Nightmare would be sick. The only thing is that, looking at the history of character inclusions, Sakurai always put in the main character before the villain. That could change, but that still makes me skeptical that he could get in. Though he has the bonus of being iconic and stands out among the crowd.
That’s the crazy thing though, because in Soul Calibur 1, 2, and 6, Nightmare IS the main character. He’s the main hero Siegfried corrupted by the Soul Edge. In 3 and 4, Siegfried was able to reject the cursed sword and it created a body of its own, but Siegfried!Nightmare is definitely the most iconic form of the character (also he’s basically the logo for the series these days, like Heihachi with Tekken and Scorpion with MK)

So... based off of this post and then the next one about the Power of 6, are you implying Nightmare is Fighter #5? You seem very confident about Bandai Namco being #5, and if you say Lloyd is likely post pass, and Heihachi hasn't been heard/is likely a delayed Mii costume...

Is Nightmare our next likely character until he gets deconfirmed? Personally, while I have no attachment to Soul Calibur, I would be all for more villains in Smash.
Nightmare fits a lot of patterns that I've honestly been mulling over for literally two months:

-Fits my "Thank You" theory.

-Fits the Power of Six theory.

-Gives credence to why the four/five front runners in insider circles were all sword fighters: Lloyd, Nightmare, Sol, Dante, and Sephiroth.

-Follows the predominant "niche" theme of the Fighter's Pass.

-Follows past patterns of Smash games ending on niche/underwhelming characters to the general Smash fanbase.

-Pushing Lloyd to Post Pass gives credence to the strong theory that Post Pass will be pretty fanservicey based on the names heard and Lloyd definitely fits that bill a lot better than Nightmare.

-Fits Reggie's "entirely new to Smash" comments to a T.

Just like with Lloyd, I don't want to get too ahead of myself and if I were to revise my statement from the other day: Nightmare = rando >>> Sol >>>>>>>>>>>> anyone hard deconfirmed by Sabi's sources for 5.

So Lloyd is still safe post pass? Thank god I almost had a heart attack. Honestly it makes more sense that way, with Reggie’s “entirely new” comment and Fatman’s theory of 6 and 7 being smash 4 asset upgrades.

So if we were to assume what the original plan for the mii costumes were, it would be

Pack 1 : Morgana Hat, Persona 4 Protag, Teddie Hat, Persona 3 Protag, Tails Hat, Knuckles Hat
Pack 2 : Veronica, DQ1 Erdrick, Martial Artist, Slime Hat, Chocobo Hat, Geno
Pack 3 : Team Rocket, Goemon, Zero, Protoman, X, Megaman.EXE (assuming Sans was added into the lineup later on, and X and EXE were moved to either another Capcom rep/another certain arm cannon wielding character for post pass HMMMM)
Pack 4 : Nakoruru, Ryo, Iori, Akira, Jackie, Heihachi
Pack 5 : 2 New Costumes, Hunters Mail, Rathalos Mail, Gil, and Lloyd.

Infact, If we assume this is the original lineup, that accounts for EVERY Mii Costume that has not returned for Ultimate while keeping to the Power of Six, holy ****.

He doesn't look anything like anime, shut up.
... I mean, he still comes from a game made by a Japanese company and where all the character artwork (including the one for Nightmare) is drawn in an anime style...
... but no, Nightmare totally isn't an anime swordsmen... or does Soulcalibur somehow not count as anime?

That’s the fun part, though, as Nightmare is just the Soul Edge-corrupted form of Seigfried, who is the main character, and then later post-III kind of became its own entity. If they wanted to go that route, Siegfried and Nightmare share at least 60-75% of their moveset and one could very easily be an echo of the other.

I’m actually sort of starting to wonder if character 5 really IS first party, and part of the reason Nintendo has been able to clamp down on them so hard is that it’s all internal this time around. It would also mean we’ve been looking at all of this wrong from the start. Plus, that would make the Gamexplain video even more suspicious.

While it's true that it's anime, it still isn't generic

I honestly doubt it. Reggie's whole "characters you wouldn't expect to see in Smash" thing really makes me think that it's all third parties for the pass.

(a bit of dirty language)

I don't know if Sabi really is transphobic, but even when talking to memoryman, saying that stuff makes them come off wrong tbh.
I knew he was being transphobic, but I guess one of the words Sabi used was transphobic as well; and, imo, it still kinda comes off weird to put things the way they did.
Yeah I don't know how to feel about this. It comes off as a pretty insensitive way of saying what they said. But I don't know of it's enough to know if this was meant in a real hostile manner.

Here's an (incomplete) rundown
Geno [SNAPPED]
Crash [SNAPPED]
Doom Slayer [SNAPPED]
Ryu Hayabusa [SNAPPED]
Dante [SNAPPED]
Lloyd [PERMASNAPPED]
Ubisoft Rep [SNAPPED]
Resident Evil rep [PERMASNAPPED]
Sol Badguy [ALIVE]
Nightmare [ALIVE]
Rando we didn't see coming [ALIVE]
And Gordon altho that was super obvious fake

God I seriously hope is Wright. Please please please.
I honestly doubt Capcom is 5th. We got capcom miis already, and we JUST got RE spirits. Miis and spirits. Getting a capcom rep now would mean even more spirits and miis + obviously an actual rep. Seems to me like over spoiling capcom fans in pass 1. I could see Phoenix or any capcom next pass, but i hiiiihgly doubt a capcom rep is for 5th at this point.

So, I have just caught up with thread and found out about Lloyd revelations and Nighmare stuff, but my main takeaway is...

"Man, I would love to see fan art of Geno and KOS-MOS hanging out. That would be cute."

Generic or not, it still doesn't change that you're basically going "I hope this anime swordsman doesn't get in, so I'm going to support this other anime swordsman from the same company."

Yes, in fact I am saying that.
But does it look like I give an ounce of absolute ****?

As far as Bandai Namco goes, Nightmare and KOS-MOS seem to have the best overall shot. KOS-MOS could fit the "thank you" theory that Fatman has been speculating on

I mean Nightmare not looking generic is entirely why he is much more preferred in this case. So yes Nightmare is an anime swordsman but his design is actually cool... unlike Lloyd

I dunno if it's just me, but it seems like they're getting on someone else for being transphobic.
Look, I didn't know if Sabi was being transphobic originally, someone just pointed out the transphobic word they used and honestly how they went about things just seemed like it could be taken offensively anyway, even if they were talking to a clearly transphobic person.

edit: I’m not trying to accuse them, though, because I don’t really know, I’m just saying.

So I get why we are jumping on the Nightmare train but couldn't a Dark Souls rep be equally likely? He fits basically every criteria Fatman listed arguably just as well as Nightmare does.

Will say this about Nightmare though, he would fulfil Sakurais desire to go beyond the main hero's when it comes to representation(I recall him saying something like that when it came to Plant). You usually can't do that for third parties, but SC has handled its cast in such a way that Nightmare being added before anyone else would make some sense. Of course, they could find some way to include Siegfried(Alt or hypothetical echo DLC down the line), but Nightmare would probably be the more highlighted one at the end of the day.
