Relax, on a serious note, this might not mean the chances for a PlayStation character getting are higher than ever. It may just mean Sony is just attending the event. That may be it.

At least with banjo he was formally recognized as a nintendo character. But none of the characters that sony fully own have ever been on a nintendo console to my knowledge...Also Microsoft DID allow some of it's properties on nintendo with minecraft AND cuphead(? I know cuphead isn't truly "owned" by microsoft, but I think it's like a similar situation with Bayonetta 2 for nintendo), I don't think it'd feel right if sony didn't do something similar. Just throwing Nintendo a big bundle of cash IMO is not enough.

It'll be so weird if this happens... one thing is for certain though, if it happens, if it really truly somehow happens, Smash ultimate really will be, well....the ultimate smash game, and it'd officially be looked at as a celebration of (console) gaming as a whole, throughout it's history.

...But damn it'll be weird as hell seeing not only Banjo but someone from sony like Sackboy or Kratos or....Nathan Drake(?) in smash bros.

Hmmmmm. I doubt it’ll impact wave 2, but this whole tournament could be a bridge-building process with various companies. If we get a wave 3 and its not assists then this my have some significance.

I guess to be fair, if any character who's at least known primarily for sony, I feel Lara should be considered before more modern characters. Of course the same can be said for spyro and Crash, even though none of them are truly "owned" by sony to my knowledge. Far as I know it's only those like sackboy nathan or kratos.

I'm not a huge sony fan if it isn't obvious, the only system I have from them is a ps2 slim, and that was for the FF games for ps2 and ps1, as well as Megaman legends 2 and GTA san andreas. Other than those I've not cared much for sony games, and the few that i do enjoy are available now on either pc or even switch. While I'm not the raging Nintendo fanboy I was when younger, I just really don't have much interest in sony's properties. And what few things I am interested in that were formally only on sony, are now on pc, and even remakes/remasters on the Switch.

But I do still think Drake would be okay in Smash, considering how beautiful his stage would probably be (to say nothing of the music). Someone said it'd be a bad fit because Uncharted is more story-based than gameplay-based, but then again.. People are okay with the idea of Phoenix Wright in smash, and you could say the same thing about him.

When considering the options, when it comes to the Major Characters from Sony, I really only see Kratos. I think of all of them he's the biggest character. I don't see Rachet and Clank, Nathan Drake, Sly Cooper, or Sackboy. not to say it's impossbile for them to get in, and if they get chosen, then it makes sense, but I'm really only going with Kratos on this one

If they decide to go with the Darkhorse Option, I can see Kat from Gravity Rush. Gravity rush is a niche game, but from those who played it they love it,and i think the Gravity gimmicks can really set her apart from the Rest of the roster.

Messing around in replay mode a little I was able to get a screenshot to BASICALLY match up to the Mii Hat leak. It requires a lot of adjusting in-game (you need to tilt horizontally, vertically, zoom a bit, and pan around slightly, as well as wait for the platform to start moving), then skewing in photoshop to account of the screen being shot at an oblique angle, but it's pretty close. Here it is with the two images overlayed.

It's BASICALLY the same though not 100%. Still maybe it is possible to get that angle in-game using replay mode.

Sakurai has taken a total of three days off in the intervening years, despite insistence by fans, employees, and Nintendo that he can use his vacation days. Waluigi is still not playable.

Question: are there any songs out there that you would associate with Geno? (Besides SMRPG soundtrack stuff, obviously)

This song for some reason has sort of stuck with me when thinking about Geno returning one day; I guess it was because of earlier this year keeping up with this thread constantly for new information and listening to this group and this song at the time. It started to resonate with me in a way that kind of feels fitting for Geno. He's gone away seemingly to never return since his work has been finished, but the memory of seeing him and the effect he's left many of us feeling after playing the game remains with us continually, despite having left us so long ago.

Funny enough it's a song I also heard around the time of Brawl's speculation and anticipation, as I'd heard it some years after the album was released. It's a personal song for me that has many more meanings than one, so I thought it might be an appropriate song for those of us who treasure his memory to this day.

I actually do have one like that, though for different reasons probably.
The lyrics, the title and the overall feel of it just kind of feel really appropriate for Geno and smash ultimate, particularly the "spirit aspect" (heheh).

I've never really payed much mind to a Sony character getting into Smash. I never thought Banjo & Kazooie were totally impossible due to Microsoft's openly saying how they were open to collaborating with Nintendo (and then Nintendo and Microsoft budding relationship at the time).

A Sony character however, now that I think isn't the most likely. Impossible? No. Unlikely?I think so, yeah. Sony was been unwilling to play ball with their competitors, and I also feel like a PlayStation All-Stars sequel could happen someday (maybe sooner rather than later)... so I don't know if I see Sony giving up a character of their's. True, it is technically free advertising that Sony doesn't have to do squat for, but I'm still unsure.

For me, I just don't know whether or not I'd want it. I'm pretty much find with any character (other than non video game characters), but a Sony character is weird for me because Sony and their games have 0 connection to Nintendo. You may point to Cloud, but Square Enix have a history with Nintendo. You may point to Joker, but Atlus have a history with Nintendo. You may point to Banjo & Kazooie, but Banjo-Kazooie originated on Nintendo consoles. I just feel a little odd including a character from Sony.

However, SSBU has kind of evolved into a celebration of gaming, so a Sony character isn't actually something I'd deem impossible. Maybe Nintendo wants a Sony character to show Sony that there should be no bad blood between them? I am not expecting a Sony character, but including one would DEFINITELY be a huge break the internet moment. Even more than Sora and maybe even Master Chief in my opinion.

As an aside, if Sony gets a character, while I think Ratchet & Clank "fit" Smash better, I see Kratos as a tad more likely. True, Kratos is violent, but I really don't think we need to go over the "too violent for Smash" argument. I've never played God of War, but with the 2018 reboot of the series being incredibly popular and successful, I only see Kratos' popularity going up and up. Ratchet & Clank I'd probably prefer, but they haven't done much recently aside from a shoddy remake. Unless their popularity gets a huge boost like Kratos, I just don't see it happening (same with Sackboy). The only reason Banjo & Kazooie were chosen of Steve or Master Chief was because FASN wanted that Microsoft character above all others. There is no such Sony character that is unanimously popular in the Smash fanbase.

In the end, a Sony character isn't something I want, but if it happened I'd be happy for the reactions alone.
