So many curve balls in such a short span of time. Pretty crazy. How many more plot twists can we get between now and the next Smash info dump?

Also, fighter 5 could potentially be Lloyd Irving. A good number of you may or may not remember Lloyd being speculated due to his original voice actor's tweet about a secret voice over project and the Tales series seemingly getting trademarked logos about a couple weeks or so ago. Just something to keep in mind while we're on this wild ride.

Okay, so I have no info, but I feel like the fifth fighter is going to be Dante from Devil May Cry. Back in February Itsuno said that if fans want Dante in Smash Bros then they need campaign for Devil May Cry to be on Switch first. Then three months later Capcom announce Devil May Cry 1 is releasing on Switch in June.

Now I may not be that knowledgeable when it comes to game development but I doubt they could get a Switch port done in less than 4 months from when they said that comment. So that should mean that Itsuno knew that Devil May Cry ports were coming when asked about Dante in Smash Bros. He never denied it, so maybe something something is happening.
I personally doubt that that was some kind of 4D chess move. The fan outcry from that interview could absolutely be what started the single-game port in the first place, since a digital-only release of 1/3rd of a remastered collection they already made last year could easily, easily be done in that time frame. He’s definitely very possible as post-Pass DLC, though.

Personally, if I had to guess, I doubt that the final fighter will actually be from any company associated with the base game. I’m personally expecting one of three things:

-Master Chief, further cementing the Nintendo-Xbox partnership further than Banjo could
-A Bethesda rep, whether Doomslayer, Dragonborn, or Vault Boy
-A shock Sony rep, like Kratos or Ratchet

With Activision and Ryu apparently out, those really seem like the biggest possible reveals. Geno would make an incredible final character, but I personally don’t see him(or Sora, for that matter) as #5, because it would heavily, heavily weigh the Pass towards the RPG genre.

Oh? I missed that. I am selfishly glad that anime swordsman #402 is not coming to Smash.
Yeah. It's not Smash related.

Also the trademarks wouldn't just now be happening if Lloyd was fighter 5. Maybe if he was in later on but idk. The symbols themselves seem to be related to a save book or something as well.

While I very much enjoy Hero, I too am welcoming of more variety and would prefer other archetypes get in before another "anime swordsman" does.

Well, when Nintendo accidentally leaked the SNK rep, Challenger Pack 5 also had a page with no new copyright information. Probably a placeholder, but it could mean something.

I'm going to bet it all and say that Geno actually is Challenger Pack 5. Like I said already, if they're going to upgrade spirits, it behooves them to show that off early just so that speculation can go wild. Will they upgrade an assist trophy next? Will someone like Shantae actually make it in? As long as there's DLC left to show off, reveals have to leave the audience with more questions than answers.

I talked about this way back in April but, yeah, Sabi shared with us two contacts super close to Microsoft. Both said Banjo was very likely and one more or less flat out said that Steve was "deliberate misinformation." Again, this doesn't mean he can't happen but, yeah, it seems he was a red herring to hide Banjo coming to Smash from potential leakers.
Dang. Maybe he’ll come later or be in the next game. At least Microsoft considered him good and big enough to use as bait; maybe they even tried using others as bait. Since it would have been from earlier last year, though, I'm sure he still has a chance for Season 2.

I hope Geno gets in at least, he’s my 2nd most wanted just below Steve. Gonna be even more disappointed if neither are in, though at least there’s Banjo & Kazooie.

Hey guys. Sabi said something about Ryu H. and Crash?
She said, that she’s not leaning towards Hayabusa as the 5th fighter and her source said “No Crash No Tracer” but that may imply that Crash is not the 5th fighter and could happen later.

If Ryu and Crash as Fighter 5 are now both possibly leak baits, according to Sabi, I wonder if that Mii Costume list that Sabi said could still be true was intentionally made as bait to get people to believe in the Crash leak, or if it was indeed just from a different source altogether, as PapaGenos speculated.

I'm probably thinking too much into this at this point. But oh well, this is a fun month for speculation.

I still think Genos chances are good. Sabi statement on the mii leak was most likely a maybe. Even if the leak is fake we still have a lot of things going for us. Like fatmans telling us that insiders are saying AT WORST Geno is 50/50

Sabi’s comment on that is kinda worrying. I really hope theyre just mistaken and Geno has a better shot than we think

You also have to take QA into consideration. I know that it wouldn't take that much work to port, but four months seems way too quick, especially when there was already an outcry for DMC games on Switch when the Remaster Trilogy was announced along. Plus they wouldn't start on the port immediately when Itsuno made that comment, so we're look at around 3 months to make that port which seems unreasonable since you have to test it and transfer the code to another system. I'm not saying Dante is in, but there's probably something to take into consideration on what Itsuno said.

Hmm... so right now, it is uncertain whether DLC Fighter #5 will end up being either Ryu Hayabusa, or Crash Bandicoot. Hmm... In that case, perhaps DOOM Slayer (in representation of the FPS genre and his legacy in video games, also due to Bethesda's recent year-long+ collaboration bringing all DOOM games to the Switch), or Geno (just because...?), or... *checks list of franchises and Third Party's yet to be featured in Smash*, Sora (not as a Square rep but, as a Disney rep *gasp*). OR... Klonoa (as a means to warm up the audience to the eventual release of a Klonoa Encore game, as speculated due to the franchise having its trademark renewed, and would be the perfect 2nd Bandai-Namco rep to be added to the roster).

EDIT: Also, this sudden "turn of events" within the 5th dlc fighter speculation topic is giving me the impression that... an announcement is dropping soon? November's right around the corner.

It’s actually not too unreasonable at all considering how often Capcom ports stuff to the Switch, especially from that era. However, the key word here is “digital-only”. If it was a retail release, then absolutely, the turnaround time would make no sense, but for Capcom’s veteran porting team on a port where most of the work was done the previous year, three months seems absolutely feasible.

When it comes to those costumes, I'd say that may be the only legitimate info we have. Sabi being uncertain is understandable, as we all are. It very well could be fake, despite seeming so very real. Even if it wasn't, though, what would we have even lost? The only thing we haven't seen happen yet in that list is Mallow's and Smithy's costumes.

I still believe that one may be rooted in some fact. The Ryu and Crash leads may not be the real deal, but given they're actual fighters, that's something I could see being easily misunderstood. Mii costumes feel... less so. I dunno, all the little breadcrumbs about Geno are things I wouldn't discount yet. Not saying he's DLC5, though, by any means. I'm positive he's not that.

I think one of my biggest concerns at the moment is that we're entering the next phase of the speculation cycle where people will begin to go after those such as Sabi, or our own fatmanonice, and demand further clarification, further details, less confusion, more certainty, and on and on.

Considering the wild rollercoaster that we've been witness to just today, I wouldn't be surprised if the more ravenous of the Smash kingdom start to go this route, though I'm hoping this wouldn't be the case.

This rollercoaster ride is only going to be crazier throughout the rest of the month and into November when Terry is released. If we don't get some info regarding our next character by then I can only imagine the Smash community will be even more crazy with some speculation. Honestly I can see the next character's reveal at the Game Awards at the latest but at least expect some new info sometime in November.

I think that sort of thing is always present to a degree, but it will likely excel in due time. I imagine the announcement of more characters outside of the pass relieved such behavior a bit, but that only lasts so long.

Guys... it just occurred to me.

Among the potential Capcom names that have circled around within the dlc speculation cycle (Dante, Phoenix Wright, Morrigan, Jill, Leon, etc.), what if... they were to go with X, as in Mega Man X (thus him simply being X in the roster). Sure, at first many might think "but he'd be Mega Man's echo", however X, despite having similar gameplay in his games to that of Mega Man, X has more mobility. Aside from having more mobility, unlike Mega Man, X can charge the weapons acquired from Mavericks (thanks to glove enhancements). His Up B would be completely different from Mega Man's since he doesn't have a pet sidekick like Rush. He would depend on one of the many Maverick weapons he's acquired throughout the games (and boy there's a LOT to choose from). Perhaps the charging of his X Buster would be similar to MegaMan's (Forward Smash), but considering X being a more advanced robot (a reploid), I believe it'd be best to assign his X Buster to Neutral B (so he may charge while running). I'd say let's add his name to the pool of Capcom characters that could make it through Ultimate's DLC. :seuss:

Sabi only said the Mii costume leak being fake is just a possibility. We've to wait a little while longer before it's confirmed to be the case. The fact that Ryu and Crash aren't character #5 though...it definitely makes speculation more chaotic. Apart from Koei Tecmo, the only major Japanese gaming company left with noteworthy ties to Nintendo I can think of is Level 5, so Layton could be a possibility for all we know.
