Happy Birthday i hope you have a great day!!
for your birthday i am posting my new SMRPG model i made
and its Punchinello! Ovaltine
i know you were waiting for this one!
Inb4 SE offers Mallow to Sakurai, since he's the first character recruited in SMRPG, but Sakurai goes against that to ask for Geno and SE is okay with that.
If this ends up being the real scenario, Sakurai better be sure not to leak it. The Mallow fans would suddenly rise from depths, cursing Geno for stealing Mallow's rightful place on the roster. I mean, could you imagine the salt if the reverse ends up to be true and Sakurai decides to snub an official offer for Geno in favor of Mallow?
Can't say I'm sure since characters that made it into Melee (Bowser, Ice Climbers) were in that poll. It was definitely for Melee, so it's quite an old batch of results, and again, it was an internal poll.
Both have appearances by Geno on them, and that's largely a big reason I think for Geno's push during that era... though I will say, this Brawl polling isn't as well documented for some reason (in comparison to the Smash 2 poll of all things), so I can't fully vouch for the methodology/validity of it as presented on SmashBoards and I'm also not exactly sure what the qualifiers for this information were either.

Finally some interesting tidbits! As everyone has been saying, no one is allowed to say Square-Enix is difficult to work with. Funny they suggested Slime, but was happy to hand Hero over.
Also, Ovaltine
I had that same thought awhile back. Of course it is speculation, but it really explains a smidgen on how Geno and Mallow were Spirits in the game. Here's to an exciting time!

So what will happen if it turns out Nintendo only wanted Cloud and Hero and decided beforehand that Geno wasn't worthy of a roster spot?
What do we do then? Petition? Riot? Rise up and overthrow the bourgeoisie to usher in a new age of economic equality for our comrades across the Smash community? Go play Playstation All-Stars?

I honestly thought that Square Enix was stingy not for money but for the sake of pride because of how beloved and precious their franchises are but I guess it turns out to be untrue. I suppose they're willing to play ball more because Nintendo's attitude towards them has changed drastically for the better.

But yeah, no, SE is absolutely not a barrier to Geno's entry at this point, I feel. I think they'd be more than willing. Sakurai wanted him, too, so here's hoping he still finds Geno worthy of being a fighter alongside Nintendo. If they both choose him, then we should be in the clear. We'll see!
I personally love how Smash speculation has gone from the innocent days of "boy I hope they throw in [character]!" to full on troll campaigns with absurd memes, fan groups, etc. I wouldn't trade in the laughs I've had since Brawl's launch for the world.
Absolutely though. It's a result of how much Smash has expanded itself as a franchise. I feel as though I watched this transformation, honestly. Back when Project M first announced Mewtwo and Roy using the Clone Engine, we realized that a fanmade game had no limits in roster consideration. The Clone Engine Speculation Thread was a goddamn hoot. Everyone was repping their most wanted. Now, since Smash 4's conception, Nintendo has created a similar realm of equal possibilities, some of which will certainly come to fruition. (Unlike any further Project M Characters.)
When you're watching a Nintendo Direct (Nov 2019 maybe?)/VGA's 2019, and you suddenly listen Happy Adventure, Delightful Adventure play right after the Smash logo click.

I agree, but I wouldn't worry too much about it. I doubt it's real. You'd have to be EXTREMELY high up the echelon with those companies to know that kind of information, and I sincerely doubt something like that would make its way out here, especially with all those details.
Also, someone calling Geno 'the Mii guy' and not even knowing his name just makes me think that this is an obvious fake. If they knew all these ins and outs with the rights, then how could they think it was just Erdrick and not the other DQ heroes, which ended up being represented by Luminary? How would they not know the name of such a demanded character for Smash?
None of that lines up. There was already curiosity about whether DQ was planned for base game or not due to how early that stuff was leaking. That could easily be piggybacking off of it.
EDIT: Also, thinking about it, there were two times SE made a suggestion in terms of how their stuff was represented, and both times, Sakurai refused... and he got what he wanted instead. I don't see them turning Sakurai down after bending for him for Cloud and Hero. Geno would still make them money. Why care so much about how he's used when Square never uses him anyway? Let him be used by people who actually care to use him and can use him.
Man, tbh I would've prefered Slime over Hero too. I think it would have been a much more creative choice than what we got and I probably would've played the character much more.
I brought up some negative stuffs here but I also think it means nothing especially in today's smash situation. Nintendo showed us that they do have ears.

True, and even if that leak was somehow real, they did specifically say that Geno was left as a 'maybe next time' kinda thing, which would actually not hurt his chances for additional DLC. Again, I wouldn't worry about it.
The only thing I'm worried about with regards to Geno at this point is 2B. Lara Croft is big enough to warrant her own spot and be her own thing without necessarily touching upon anything to do with Geno... but 2B on the other hand just seems like the "Joker/Bayonetta-esque" blindside that could happen given her recent prominence and Sakurai's appreciation for the game and Drakengard in general. And even then I don't see any reason we couldn't get both her AND Geno, but it's the other thought that occasionally sneaks in.
At that point I'm not sure I'd have any excuses for Geno not getting in though...

I really think it's much more likely for Sakurai to go for a bigtime fan requested character (either Sora or Geno) at this point than someone that hasn't been as highly or historically requested as 2B if only to have an alternate style pick than Hero which wasn't really requested all that much. I think that he'll (especially with the massive response to Banjo) be more likely to have at least one or two long-time fan requests among the bonus DLC and Geno at this point is near the top or topping that list as far as SE specific characters go.
I do think we are going to get a least one spirit as a fighter. Sakurai's statement back when banjo got revealed implies that he wants to add more big fan request like Ridley Banjo and K Rool. If the dlc is going to be all new francises then I don't see that happening. Most of these big fans request are in the game in some way shape or form so I think spirits can happen. Also Im not trying to downplay any characters popularity at all. Im just saying if Sakurais statement is legetament then Its likey we will get atleast one spirit fighter due to the fact a lot of them were big request like the first three. But thats just my little theory. What do you guys think?
No. The 5chan leak was not real at all. It had Joker, who was confirmed, "Erdrick" when Luminary was confirmed to be the default from the start, even when it was just him an Erdrick. (EDIT: Also, he said Erdrick's stage was "Alefgard", oof)
He got Banjo.
But he didn't get Terry at all. What's up with that

This is the only hope I can sort of hold on to. Part of me thinks another SUPER highly requested character a la Ridley or Banjo will make it in, due to the recent announced increase in roster size. I'm hoping it's Geno.
Just want to leave this here. Some good info to be found here! Namely being that Sakurai could've even made Slime work if need be (which I personally don't find surprising due to Piranha Plant, but there are always Sakurai doubters), and that the Dragon Quest V hero was at one point considered for an alternate costume.
The other news I want to draw attention to is that NINTENDO chose to add a Dragon Quest character. They brought that to Sakurai. Which to people who know things Sakurai has repeated multiple times, isn't surprising. Sakurai has said that Nintendo comes to him for the DLC. But I have seen some people (some in this thread) who seem so certain it was Sakurai who hand-picked Hero. Even though Sakurai has said Nintendo approached him, and I really don't think Sakurai would lie.
The biggest news, at least for Geno fans, is what Sakurai was saying about negotiating with Square Enix: "...the agreement came surprisingly quickly." If a series that is as complicated as Dragon Quest's copyright (Sakurai even admitted he knew there would be hurdles), and that Square Enix was lenient on things with their characters that they usually aren't... yeah, I think this spells well for Geno (maybe even Sora).
Dammit. Would've loved to see Madason. At least he has a color scheme for Arusu.
That said, I think that is very good for Geno. It sounds like SE is more willing to play ball with whatever Nintendo and Sakurai wants to do, especially since they were the ones who suggested Slime, Sakurai/Nintendo were like, "No, we want Hero," and they were just like, "Oh, okay, cool!" If all of the copyright issues were surprisingly easy to overcome, and they were willing to bend rules so readily with Hero...
Yeah, I sincerely doubt SE is a roadblock now. This also contradicts that aforementioned 'leak' and how unwilling Square seems to be when it comes to cooperation and rights for Geno. If Hero was so easy, why wouldn't Geno be? It sounds great for our star boy.
EDIT: Another contradiction is that this '''leak''' that reports that SE doesn't want to use Geno because of his Smash popularity (not representing their properties and their efforts) also states that 'Appearently, Enix side of SE was shocked about Cloud getting in smash first so they were so cooperative and were so desperate appealing their boi to the smash team.' So, in case anyone is worried about this, it's definitely false. Sakurai and Nintendo came to them about Hero, and they were suggesting Slime, not 'their boi'. There is also no evidence to suggest that they were desperate, even if cooperative.
DQ represents Enix and FF represents Square. Chocobo and Geno could of been with the DQ costumes making it a general Square-Enix pack, but they didn’t. I think at least one more Square rep could be on the way.

To add to this, I believe it was Square who suggested using the other heroes as alts, which is huge given how insistant they were on not previously using them for any spinoffs, so if Sakurai could get them to allow that, I'm certain they'd be more than fine allowing him to use Geno.
Basically, in terms of what pertains to Geno, they said that 'Mii guy' (verbatim, guy didn't know his name despite being a super deep insider or what?) was in consideration but decided against as a 'maybe some other time' choice. There were also rumors that Square tried to sell SMRPG's rights to Nintendo (but were refused) connected to that leak, as well as Square saying Geno in Smash won't happen because they fear him being a Smash character first and a SMRPG property second. The interviews from Sakurai and Horii have proven this false due to contradictory info about how Hero was chosen... on top of the smoking gun of the dude not even knowing Geno's name rofl.

In a perfect world sakurai would have gone with Charizard, Venusaur and especially Blastoise instead of Charizard, Ivysaur, and Squirtle. And that perfect world apparently almost happened.
Actually, I made the pun first now and TerminalMontage took it and used it for his video years earlier. It is easily proven if we consider time travel. See, I made this ingenious pun, quite brilliantly I might add. TM rightfully enjoyed it so much that he then ripped a hole in space-time and traveled back to years ago and made his great pun videos and used it. So, mine is the original comment and TM's is the copycat years prior.
All that to say that TM owes me years of royalties for the pun and I'm not crazy no.
