I heard so much about the music takedowns by Nintendo. Were there any takedowns that were not from Brawl’s channel? Was there a remix takedown?

Just finished World of Light (for the 9874546th time) but using the Geno spirit in every boss battle (even the final one), like he was guiding the heroes through the hard times. It felt good, next time I want him to physically join the adventure too.

If I recall they were straight rips. Still though, it follows a similar pattern. Especially regarding undertale’s tract.

This does make me think about something that I fear every now and again: what if the actual Geno doesn't fit your playstyle? Like, you just can't wrap your head around what it takes to really enjoy him?
So I had this fear months ago when I played Smash Bros. Crusade for the first time in years and they put in Geno...and I didn't enjoy playing him (my fav in Crusade is Klonoa, fun fact about me) and I had a existential crisis. Literally, when I had that thought that I might not like how Geno played if he got into Ultimate...it felt like life around me stopped for a moment and everything felt dark.

I understand that this seems dumb. Geno is just a video game character, so why would you get so bent out of shape about it, but I need you to hear me out.

Sometimes people love and latch onto small and simple things that others think are dumb, but to THAT person, it's their world. It means everything to them. It's such a big deal that not having it can cause them to come crashing down, much like a toddler or child who doesn't have their 'blanky' or their favorite toy. As an adult, there are many things we hold dear to that meant something to us as a kid, and there are things that will stick with me forever. I have a few of those things, but the hours I spent playing SNES both by myself with Kirby Super Star and SMRPG as well as playing Mario with my mom really mean a lot with me, right up there with all the time I spent playing Nintendo 64 with my friends, cousins and family. Smash means a lot to me because it defined my childhood and it was one of the few ways as a kid with a disability that no one really understood at the time (Asperger's Syndrome, for those who are wondering) to get together with other kids and have a good time. That unfinished basement that flooded a lot? The couch that decayed more and more over time? My stepmom having to shout angrily from upstairs to get us to stop playing and for my friends to go home? That is a huge part of me.

As I've mentioned before, as a kid I played SMRPG before I got a Nintendo 64 because even though my mom spoiled me (I got it for Christmas I believe, or maybe Day 1, I'm not sure) I still loved my SNES. I remember walking into the local game store and seeing rows and rows of shelves with SNES games. It was that store that head me play awesome SNES games like Looney Tunes B-Ball and Tetris Attack (another game I played with my mom), but it was also the store where I saw SMRPG for the first time and I saw Mario, Bowser and Princess Toadstool on the cover and I HAD TO HAVE EVERY MARIO GAME! It was my first experience with an RPG before Pokemon took over my life and it blew me away with it's charm even as a kid (I was five at the time and I thought Geno had slit eyes like Frisk and a big nose like he was Wimpy from Popeye or something, and even then I thought he was super cool! The sound effects of the special attacks are ingrained into my brain. Mario doing impersonations made me laugh as a kid!) and I was blown absolutely away that Bowser became part of the team and he was more than just the big bad. I thought it was cool that Toadstool was in the party, but since I kept using her Sleepy Time and Silence Balloon on enemies that it didn't work on/had a low chance I thought she was useless outside of Psyche Bomb (Kid Logic: I can heal with items, so why not have a whole team of strong characters instead!).

That all fell away when the N64 and then Pokemon came out and my life revolved around Pokemon during the big Pokemon boom of the late 90s early 2000s. Still, years later I played SMRPG again and I fell in love with it all over again. I even used a blank VHS tape to record all the special moves and cool fights and secrets I knew because no one knew about this game and I was absolutely appalled and felt I had to spread the good news as it were. I remembered how much I loved Geno and Mallow and everything about the game, and it feels like not long after that I went straight into the Brawl phase with Smash Dojo and rumors of Geno and the like but I'm missing some time in there somewhere. Anyway, I wanted Geno in Brawl SOOOOO bad and I remember wanting him before that but not really thinking too much about it, just like once or twice being like 'Geno would be cool in Melee' but nothing too crazy because before the concept of patches and DLC I was normally content with what I got.

I won't go too much deeper than that, but I HAVE to stress that some of us here have been campaigning for Geno in one way or another for nearly 12 years and some of us a bit longer. Some of us are old enough to have played and fallen in love with SMRPG when it first released and, despite all the crazy cool stuff that has happened in gaming since then, SMRPG's charm has stuck with us for over 20 years. This is why some of us freak out when it seems Geno has no chance and it's why when we make stupid comment in the heat of the moment I'm still understanding because...well...

Geno may just be a stupid video game character from an irrelevant game over 20 years ago...but he's OUR stupid video game character from an irrelevant game over 20 years ago. He means that much to us and we've championed him for so long that he's a part of us and having part of us rejected over and over and over gets very frustrating. You feel like you want to lash out and that it isn't fair that others get noticed while you have busted your ass for years for seemingly nothing.

And this is why no other character that I could possibly want compares at all to Geno. This is why my list consists of mainly characters other people want, because I KNOW what it's like to champion a character you love for so long.

And, ultimately...this is why if Geno DOES get into Ultimate, I will never have a true request for Sakurai or Smash ever again.

It doesn't matter if Geno doesn't get into another Smash title after Ultimate. Hell, it wouldn't even matter if SMRPG never got anything major outside of Geno in Ultimate for the rest of my lifetime or beyond. That one instance of an amazing developer like Sakurai doing justice to the experience of 5-yr-old and younger-teen-me would fulfill me of anything Sakurai could ever make and, honestly, anything any developer could ever make. Even if Geno comes alone with no stage or anything else, ultimately I'd still be ungodly grateful. That's why I will ball like a baby upon his reveal, and why if Geno is revealed as a character Sakurai took extra hours and time and cut out expenses to make happen when he could have stopped at five character, I will cry that much more.

I'm not sure I could make a better post on explaining what Geno means to me, and that is why I understand the fear of not liking the character upon release. Crusade did that to me, but then I saw how Sakurai made even the West like Hero and how Banjo and Kazooie are just absolutely perfect and then I breathed a sigh of relief.

If Geno gets in, Sakurai will do him right. He may not be top tier, hell, he may not even be GOOD...but he will play how we all felt he should. He will feel like Geno, and we may not get good with him or enjoy playing him the 'correct way' but we will love playing as him.

That's just how it is.

idk how anyone else feels about it but personally I'm almost as hyped at the idea of getting an amiibo as I am getting him playable, might seem dumb to some but with how much higher quality the non realistic humans look especially with the recent ultimate waves I fully expect it to look amazing and also how SURREAL it would be to walk into a gamestore or a flipping walmart target or best buy and see GOD DAMN GENO MERCH ON THE SHELVES, IN 2020 OF ALL THINGS.

If we are getting new stages, then I think we are getting only third parties one this pack is over (with first-party less likely) but if no stages, I think we are more than likely to see a mixture of both. I think spirits can be upgraded. I doubt ATs will

The assist is because they have an already implemented model, an algorithm of when they are going to appear and what they are programmed to do. If they implement someone like... let's say Isaac, they would have to either remove that AT completely or program so that he won´t appear whenever Isaac is playable. The latter, if unlucky could be causing a glitch, unlike a JPG that is just... well a JPG

would you say characters in final smashes like Bass, Kumatora and Mecha-Fiora would be safe? They'd literally be in a Chrom sitch which is no big deal, as final smashes play out the same way each time

Final Smashes shouldn¨t be a problem as far as I know... although the base game where programed with Chrom being a playable and final smash (the fact that they didn¨t give Robin an upgraded FS is just so annoying but whatever) in mind so...

Lol, I heard Twitter is pissed that Geno and Isaac have a chance now.

If we're pissing Twitter off we're doing something right!
That's actually great news! People only get mad about smash requests when they're looking really likely. That means our little Geno bubble isn't just biased. He really is a front-runner now!

Oh they could swap him out with a similar acting and built character. Like how you could replace Shovel Knight with Black Knight.

In theory, you could do that. But they aren¨t programmed like a fighter. They would need to reprogram their current model so it's balanced on top of adding more than the "moves" it has as an AT on top of program another model to do the same work as the previous one. That would be more work than upgrading a JPG which is why I doubt Ats won¨t be upgraded (and I say this as someone that would like to see Shovel Knight, Isaac and Waluigi playable)

Wasn’t Isaac’s theme also copyrighted?
I believe so, or at least some amount of GS stuff was, and we got all that music with Isaac's assist and GS spirits. B-K's songs got that. Megalovania did. In fact, a SMASH remix of Beware the Forest's Mushrooms also got taken down by Nintendo themselves, not just the two copyright claims of the original theme + Fight Against an Armed Boss. It's curious, indeed.

Would you guys rather have a SMRPG HD remake or a SMRPG sequel?

Aww man that's kinda getting my hopes up. Since we know the Banjo demo was recorded only two days after the Hero one, and the new DLC announcement is referenced in said demo, it's not out of the question they've had something cooking for this long.

What would you guys rather have first? A SMRPG HD remake or a SMRPG sequel?
I'd rather have a remake. We've already gotten sequels, really. Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi are spiritual successors. A remake of SMRPG would fix all of the issues that hold it back from being so great. As much as I love it, some of the gameplay hasn't aged perfectly well.

Definitely interesting. I think the SMRPG songs being copyrighted and the fact that we STILL haven’t seen Geno’s costume is almost all but confirmation Sakurai is looking to add him as DLC. Especially the line about wanting to please the fans.

I feel more confident about Geno than any other character. I’m getting the same feeling about him getting in that I was about Banjo when everything was looking good for him.

How would you guys feel if Geno is released with just those two songs and no stage or spirits? Would you be happy/satisfied? I'd like to see him released along with the Forest Maze stage and with Smithy, Bowyer, Croco, and Booster spirits.

Totally agree... but I'd honestly take anything.

Actually, what if we got a GOOD Paper Mario RPG again that acts as a TRUE sequel to SMRPG (as in, featuring the return of Geno, Mallow, Smithy, Booster, Jonathan Jones, etc.)? People want Paper Mario to be good again and for SMRPG to get a sequel or remake. This would kill two starlings with one stone.

Yeah, I know that's not happening with IS being the way they are now, but I can dream rofl.

Actually, that's a good question... If you could pick eight partners or supporting characters from the entirety of the Mario RPG series (PM, M&L, SMRPG) to become Mario's partners in a new game, who would you pick? My list would be as follows:

1) Geno (obviously)
2) Mallow (obviously!!)
3) Jonathan Jones
4) Vivian
5) Parakarry
6) Prince Peasley
7) Dreambert (shhh I think he's adorable)
8) HECKING LUIGI

I don't care what he comes with. I just want him to come home. <3

A stage and more spirits would be awesome! But I’ll be perfectly OK with at least a playable Geno.

Interesting if true. Isaac is one of my last remaining hopefuls along with Geno, Waluigi, Skull Kid, Ryu Hayabusa, and Doom Slayer. I'd also like to see Shadow as a Sonic echo.
Yeah Isaac is my most wanted. Geno is my second and I feel like he definitely has the best chance above most hopefuls right now. Waluigi I like as well and if AT’s can be promoted in DLC he’ll likely be before Isaac. So I do hope to see it happen.

Skull Kid would be my most wanted from the Zelda series. He’d be very interesting. And I know Ryu and Doom Slayer have a lot of fans so they’d make sense. Bethesda has been real friendly with Nintendo and Arya is probably one of the last big NES era characters that hasn’t been represented yet.

As long as he's a playable character, he could come with no extras and he'd still be worth it, as far as I'm concerned.

Hmm, it'd be interesting seeing Geno and Mallow return within the universe of the Mario & Luigi games. As for a SMRPG HD remake... hmm... dunno if the visual aesthetic should be something similar to the Zelda: Link's Awakening remake, or to Octopath Traveler's. Hmm...

For the time being, I guess we'll just have to wait if SMRPG gets added to the SNES NSO library.

Bandana Waddle Dee, Bomberman, Rayman, Shantae, and Lloyd Irving are honorable mentions, too.

1.400 pages. I’m pretty sure we will be at page 1.500 when Geno gets revealed.

Is there another character with more pages than Geno? I’m kind of new to the forum (couple of months) so I’m curious. Also, Do you think Sakurai and his team know the amount of discussion this legendary character can get?

Geno for Smash! ⭐
