Ok, Nintendo with those two instances during the Luigi's Mansion 3, and Link's Awakening demos at Gamescon, PLUS the tweet about Mario deserving a vacation... these are all looking like HARD teases right there.
Yeah. I feel like something's up if Nintendo's even teasing its own employees about it. I doubt it's leakbait because, based on what I know, Nintendo's a lot more sneaky with it and does it in a sort of "be sure not to share this super top secret info with anyone, okay buddy? *wink wink* I'm just going to go to the store reeeeeal quick and I'll be right back" kind of way. Nintendo wouldn't be blasting it on Twitter like this.

Given the new info regarding the SKUs and PushDustin's comments, we may actually see the Direct land before the 6th of September. If not, then most likely before the 12th

Look, I get that all those SKUs mean some big news is coming, but I can’t get over Bee Simulator.

I have never heard of this game before but now it’s all I want.

It’d be odd to see a remake of sunshine although I certainly wouldn’t oppose of it.

I think though it’s more likely a sunshine dlc for odyssey.

My question is how far would they go with it? Would it be substantial like xc2 ‘s dlc? Or laughably bad like botw’s?

Aren't those just temp prices, though?
I know of dates (12/31/19 for example) being potential placeholders, but not prices. The MSRPs listed there are likely gonna be the final launch prices

Push Dustin is more than likely right. For whatever reason, Nintendo almost always skips the Tokyo Game Show. One long standing rumor is that it was originally a gesture to spite Square Enix but simply turned into a force of habit as the years dragged on. I don't think the sudden avalanche of rumors and info is a coincidence either. Based on what I know, Nintendo's basically coming into this Direct guns loaded. Remember how last September our expectations were practically crawling on the floor but it wound up being almost as good as E3 with all the bombshells? I think we're going to see a repeat of that, nevermind what third parties are potentially going to bring.

I just watched a video on YT wherein someone discusses not just the fact that the white outline of Isle Delfino can be seen on that one map, but that you can also see Isle Delfino's texture on the globe attached to the Odyssey. Where Delfino would be on the globe is coloured in like the water in the ocean, but when the lighting hits the globe just right, the texture is bumpy, and you can actually see the island a little more clearly.

It's interesting that they would have gone out of their way to texture the placement of Isle Delfino on this tiny little globe, but at the same time, if they were aspiring to eventually do something with that... hmm.. :ultduckhunt:

Well BotW’s was laughably bad in part because they saved a lot of ideas for BotW2. And Odyssey’s dlc was even more lacking, so unless they just really didn’t have any more ideas for Odyssey we’ll be getting Odyssey 2 with Sunshine content.

(In my opinion, of course. Not trying to say it’s a guarantee.)

I know we're feeling down about our star boy, dismissing the reasons we felt confident, reading too much into what a bunch of users have been saying, but... this is ALWAYS pure speculation. That’s what keeps it fun, in my opinion. Just because people say they "have a source" doesn't necessarily mean they do, and vice versa. The key is to take it all for what it is, and enjoy it. I love seeing Papagenos speculate because, even if he’s wrong, it’s still exciting to theorize and consider. This sort of thing is a hobby, not a lifestyle. Don’t let it ruin you or your attitude if it’s not true.

Maybe it's because I'm a bit older than the average member here (I'm 27, not that much older I guess) but I've been pretty consistent in my belief that there's a good chance still. That recent Geno leak may not be legit (do we even know who's actually responsible for that model?) but I don't think dismissing certain things for weird points you decide to make up are reason enough. The lines below his eyes being closer than you remember to his nose/mouth don’t seem convincing enough to dispel it. I like to keep my speculative lens open wide, but I do think we’re still in the running. Obviously we won’t know anything about who’s coming and who isn’t until the reveals happen, but I don’t think we need to surround ourselves with negativity.

I don’t play many video games, I don’t surround myself in communities, but I check this thread every single day to enjoy the speculation and theorizing. I like to stay optimistic because Geno has always been one of my favorite characters, and we’ve never been closer. If anything, the game still manages to renew interest in him every time he’s speculated. This is Smash Ultimate, so I’m hoping for the ultimate outcome… but if it doesn’t happen, I want to enjoy the time spent theorizing. I don’t think doubting ourselves or throwing around negative conversation helps anyone.

Lastly, I do want to say - nothing is more off-putting to my visits in this thread mor eso than the constant discussion of things unrelated to the character. There was a period of pages where the discussion was on the new Pokemon games, for example, and while that is interesting and disappointing, etc., I don’t consider this thread a general discussion forum. I think it’s unnecessary to talk about things unrelated to Geno or the theorizing behind his inclusion in this thread. Feel free to disagree, but I figured I’d make my voice heard - I’d really like to stick on topic.
I must say that I am certainly at fault for partaking in off-topic discussions on this thread. I apologize for that if it is becoming a nuisance or turning people away.

I think the reason I join in on this is because I also don't play many games or really ever join in online communities. And other support threads that I'm interested in aren't as active or respectful as this one from what I've seen. Pokemon and Undertale are my favorite games so when people bring them up I really want to talk about them. I don't really have any friends to talk to about Undertale although I do have friends who play Pokemon but I have a lot to say about Pokemon. I also think this is a Smash thread not just a Geno thread and a lot of the extraneous discussion does stem from Smash speculation. But I do try to bring it back to Geno generally speaking. Not making excuses just trying to explain why I think theses trends occur.

One of the reasons that I'm working on a Geno moveset now is that I hope to generate Geno-related discussions and get people excited again about the idea of Geno in Smash. Maybe inspire people to edit my moveset in ways that they imagine Geno fighting or suggest movesets of their own. Hopefully, having these kinds of discussions will generate more positivity and hope for Geno and remind everyone of all the many reasons we are here on this thread in the first place. I haven't given up hope since Melee and I'm not about to start. Let's keep this character alive even if Nintendo and Square Enix would rather he just be a relic. Our art and our vision and outspokeness might not get a reaction from the big boys but it could from private projects and that matters too. Just look at the project M video of Geno on the first page of this thread to get an idea of how that really does matter.

A remake of Sunshine? Geez, I really hope the video game industry doesn't become like the movie industry is now with nothing but remakes and reboots of old stuff because they can't come up with anything fresh. Or at least if they could fully polish the stuff we already have. Every time we get something cool and new in our favorite franchises, it feels like they drop something else that was already good....(glares at Gamefreak)

I mean I don't think a Sunshine DLC for Odyssey or a Sunshine 2/remake would be that odd. They've kept Fludd as a staple of Mario's moveset for so long.

I remember that. I was practically clutching my chest and my eyes were a good two inches out of my sockets. "HHHHNNNNGGGG, Nintendo... Please... You can't do this to me..." Pretty sure like 75% of the Geno fanbase would have died in that instant if they had finished off that massive wave of Square games with Geno.

Yep, I was the same way. That may ultimately happen this year instead since Animal Crossing New Horizons is already been announced and its release date given out.

Glad I wasn't the only one.
What an anniversary gift that would be. Sakurai's like, "sorry about last year, fam, lmao."

This really didn't turn out how I thought it would, but I got my vision of a Smash Geno design done. Also, regarding the Sunshine tweet from NoA, I personally don't think it means a whole lot. Though a Sunshine remake/remaster with the Odyssey engine is nice.

As a silly aside to the whole Mario Sunshine discussion going on, I now cannot help but imagine Geno trying to enjoy a day at the beach. Nothing changes about his main outfit, except for the addition of some very loud star-studded swimming trunks, and a poor, misguided attempt at applying sunscreen lotion in random places on his wooden face. Surf's up. :ultsquirtle:

Wait. What. Have. I been missing. Please update me.
Primarily, there have been multiple hints towards something in relation to Mario, and very possibly Mario Sunshine. During previews of their games, Nintendo showed a Mario statue in front of a watermelon, and a pineapple, and recently, they'd tweeted a never-before-seen render of Mario in the Odyssey style eating a watermelon, while the tweet goes on to talk about summer vacation, Mario, and included the word "sunshine" in the same tweet.

On top of a flood of $59.99 SKU numbers showing up for Switch software in the Gamestop registry, it's been a very interesting morning, so now we're wondering if we're looking at potential DLC for Odyssey, or better yet, a Sequel.

Or for some of us, even better yet, a Mario Sunshine Odyssey sequel. :ultduckhunt:

There was one $39.99 item in the list, so it could be an Octo Expansion-length add on of Sunshine content to Mario Odyssey, but I don’t think GameStop sells codes for DLC anymore

Or it could be a game that’s too big for DLC but small enough to justify the $39.99, like with Xenoblade 2’s prequel, Torna: The Golden Country

Edit: wait I’m an idiot the $39.99 item was BEE SIMULATOR

unless...Bee Simulator is code for something else...? Nah

I am still thinking about the timing of the Thanos Inevitable Direct. Even with the timing of the SKU "leaks" and the Mario tweet ... I am still guessing it will be later in the month of September rather than earlier for just a couple of reasons.

One, to play around with the Mario tweet about summer "Sunshine Odyssey", Fall officially starts this year on September 23rd ... and second, the Amiibos are being released on the 20th, which so far has coincided with Smash Releases/info so far for this DLC round.

I am hoping it is earlier, because reason, but expecting it to be more in the 20's.

I’m a bit confused: why would the summer-themed tweet hint towards an early fall direct instead of earlier in September when it still feels summery?

The tweet takes about even Mario needs a summer vacation, it refers to the readers in the past tense about how you summer was. I can see it possibly during the "fall" presentation it will either be "look what Mario did during the summer" and it releases either Mario Sunshine or a DLC ... kind of like a look past event.

It crossed my mind for sure... but honestly, I don't think it would have really fit Nintendo's way of doing Smash reveals. Like, that's a little too obvious of a lead-in and I think we've generally seen Nintendo push for the Smash reveals to BE the lead-ins, not to be led up to in a specific manner. Which is exactly what happened with Isabelle and Animal Crossing. Smash is more of the bait Nintendo is using to getting us into other series and games (third parties included), not the other way around.

I also realized I was being such an entitled fan at that moment because I realized I was disappointed at an Animal Crossing announcement despite it being one of my favorite game series because a Smash announcement didn't go exactly how I wanted, and I quickly reassessed how I was doing things to just realize, "Yeah, not literally everything is going to go exactly the way I want it, but goddamn if I still don't have a ton of great stuff with the game to be happy about."

It's been commonly known that Isle Delfino was planned for Odyssey. In the game's beta texture for the world map Isle Delfino was fully textured and properly placed on the map. Also, as you all have discussed above, the globe on the Odyssey has Isle Delfino on it, but it has its textures removed.

So how much of Isle Delfino do you guys think this potential Sunshine DLC would consist of? Would it just be the plaza, or would it encompass the entirety of Isle Delfino, with each area being it's own little section?

I don’t know what this Mario tease could be, supposing it’s anything in the first place, but I don’t see them releasing paid dlc for Odyssey 2+ years after the fact.

I certainly agree, it won't be DLC, not 2 years after the game released.

I do think it's an obvious Sunshine tease, with worst case being a straight HD port to Switch and best case being a full blown remake or Odyssey 2 set in tropical locations with a throwback kingdom to Isle Delfino.

I personally think Sunshine is getting a remake and also bonus predication that Paper Mario TTYD is getting a port with a slight graphical touch up
