Okay everyone, show of hands. Who here actually believes that Geno is guaranteed?

By no means do I think he's guaranteed but I don't doubt he has a lot going for him. Between the absent Mii Costume, the Bird madness, music takedowns, weird acknowledgement from NoA, and the rumors from last Fall. Even more so considering Sakurai put in Geno's Mii Costume in Smash 4 so that his fans would feel they got something. I don't think Sakurai would outright remove it if he had no plans to make Geno a fighter.

Although I firmly maintain Geno only gets in through Individual DLC and not through the Fighter Pass should he get in.

Say, Geno Mii Costume aside, back in the DLC days of Smash 4, how did you feel when they added Cloud over Geno? I can't say I was pleased myself.

I mean TBH, i'm much more in to Final Fantasy than I am Super Mario RPG so I was super stoked when Cloud was revealed. I know that might not be a popular thing to say here but i'll just throw it out there lol.

Maybe Geno will get his chance before Ultimate's development runs it's course. Lets hope so.

Say, Geno Mii Costume aside, back in the DLC days of Smash 4, how did you feel when they added Cloud over Geno? I can't say I was pleased myself.

I actually liked Cloud being in the game and wanted Geno in the game too, but I also voted for Cloud in the early days of the ballot before I knew that he was going to be DLC in Sm4sh and that’s when I pushed my support for Geno even more after that.

Just because Sakurai said he wanted the character doesn't mean anything because there's no way he would say that he doesn't want any particular character because that would be terrible PR.

Then why he didn't say that for EVERY possible character, go and ask him for every one until he answer "No, that character nope"

He let other popular characters that people having been wanting for many years to be excluded, chances are it will happen again.

What the hell is your problem. Are you the same person who thought Ridley was impossible cuz Sakurai said it was too big? The same who didn't lke the idea of K.Rool being in cuz it was irrelevant? ...ummm, what? This doesn’t make the slightest bit of sense. If Sakurai doesn’t want a character to make it in, he simply won’t mention the character. I’m also sure he’d have no problem admitting if he didn’t have plans for a character. You’re creating a hypothetical strawman here that doesn’t even exist.

Look, with a character like Geno who keeps getting mentioned all the time you can only go so long without talking about him, especially when you start doing business with the company that owns him. It's something that Sakurai couldn't ignore, which is why there's the Mii Costume and Spirit. Now when it comes to make a game like Smash Bros you want to not show any kind of bias through words (actions can be interpreted differently) so for the sake of PR you'll never catch Sakurai ever saying he doesn't want a character to be playable unless it's a non-video game character. So with the amount of people who keep asking Sakurai for Geno of course he has to say something and the smartest PR move is for him to say "I wanted to include Geno" whether it's true or not. Every interview that Sakurai and game developers do are PR so it's hard to take everything so seriously when the responses are design to appeal to majority of people. So that's why I don't fully believe that Sakurai really wants Geno because as we seen in the past if he really wants something then he can get it. If he really wanted Geno he wouldn't settle for a Spirit, you only settle when it's a character that you're not that interested in. He doesn't like to talk about why a character isn't playable because that's a whole can of worms that he doesn't want to deal with.

Just to note, Pirahna Plant lies outside the Fighters Pass, they can literally do whatever they want post pass

Piranha Plant was suppose to be in the base roster since it's the only character that had a Palutena's Guidance. They most likely look at all the characters they were make, judge how much can be done before the game release in December and decided that Piranha Plant isn't worth delaying the game so they just delayed that character to be release separately. I don't get why people believe that there's some magical time slot in between the base game development and the Fighters Pass where they just stand up and say "Hey guys, instead of getting the DLC done faster how about we make Piranha Plant playable as a bonus?" Piranha Plant was always meant for the base game.

Sure they can do whatever they want post Fighters Pass but they can also choose not to work on it anymore and move on to other projects.

Didn't he give a reason as to why ridley was not added in smash 4? it's not exactly saying he didn't want him in, but it was still a reason for not having him included in the previous game.

And look how that end up for Sakurai. People went even harder on asking for Ridley and memed the whole "Too Big" response. You learn your lesson from the first time.

Cloud and Dragon Quest before Geno both make a lot of sense. They both represent massive juggernauts of franchises that would feel like notable exclusions from a game meant to celebrate gaming as a whole. Believe it or not, I would also feel the same way about Sora and Kingdom Hearts getting representation before Geno were that to ever happen, though I doubt it will due to the complications that would arise from Disney. (For example, I feel like Sakurai would not want to include Sora if he couldn’t also include Donald and Goofy in some way because the three of them are so closely tied together, and I feel like getting the rights to use the two of them would be a massive challenge compared to literally any other character in Smash.)

However, getting any Square Enix character other than Cloud/Hero/Sora before Geno that wasn’t an echo fighter would feel like a bit of a snub to me, though I wouldn’t mind too much. These franchises mean so much to gaming as a whole, but once they’re represented, the next Square Enix character should be Geno in my eyes because of what he means to the Smash fanbase as a whole. So no, I’m not upset we got Cloud and Hero before Geno, but if we got, say... Randi from Secret of Mana before Geno? Then I’d be a little disappointed. But ultimately, I just want Sakurai to choose to work on the characters that he feels passionate about creating a moveset for because I feel the game is always better for it. So if Sakurai chose Randi, I’d probably end up liking Randi because I imagine Sakurai would do him justice.

All. Every single one of them would've been great additions but combined it would've been beyond a dream come true which was why I was blindly trusting it

Though if I had to pick four it would be: Geno, Isaac, Chorus Kids and Mach Rider. Geno and Isaac would've been the perfect end to the base cycle, Chorus Kids were scrapped in Smash 4 so if they got their chance now that would've made the tagline "Everyone is here" even better and it would've been great to rep an unrepresented franchise then finally Mach Rider was the character I never knew I wanted until then. Mach Rider is now my preferred Retro rep.

If by some miracle we get like three or even two Fighters Passes and all the characters from the Grinch Hoax made it in I would love to look back at the Hoax and just laugh. "Oh looks like the Grinch was telling the truth after all it was just indirectly true." I would love that.

That leak made me a Mach Rider supporter. Learned a lot of stuff about the character because of the exposure. Now she is one of my top retro wants.

Banjo, Isaac, and Mach Rider. Regarding Banjo, I always knew he'd get in eventually, I just never expected it to actually happen. With Isaac, I never really cared for him personally, never played a Golden Sun game in my life, but I knew a lot of people did and it really made me want to root for him. And Mach Rider would've been the sickest choice ever.

Found on 4ch. Something I noticed that's odd. Considering that the stages from the dlc season pack comes in we would have one stage slot open. This also applies to the character voice section as well, that is, if none of the upcoming dlc has character alts like Hero. Thoughts?
