it depends where u and ur girl are going. if ur just coming for Genesis, I would say, land in the Oakland International Airport (flights are usually on-time, u get ur baggage pretty fast, and theres less traffic outisde the airport relative to the San Francisco International Airport imo, plus, its closer to everywhere) and book a hotel in the east bay. But, it really depends where ur trying to go. Let me know, and I can suggest some nice areas.

You didnt play smash as a kid on 64? :)
Sure did! Now lemme pull out that console samus that I played with my brother, best friend, and cousin on Sector Z 3-stocks with Items on. O wait.

I am now determined to go to this, just so that I can meet all y'all in real life. I hope there'll be a lot of friendlies, so that I can play most everyone instead of just my max 3-4 tourney sets?

The Bay Area has some very nice locations. San Francisco is a huge tourist destination. Although San Francisco is a little ways from where the tournament is (1 hour drive, and probably a bit longer if you take BART). BART is a pretty convenient train system.

I took the BART so much while I was there in the summer. It is indeed very useful, except the venue is a bit of a pain to get to.

u should do it jel. it will be fun!

@surri: pretty much what ballin said. if ur in the bay area, san francisco is the place to see. theres so much stuff goin on there all the time. i would prolly get a room in the east bay (maybe half-way between san francisco and antioch just so the distance to either location is the same)

San Fransisco was one of the highlights of my last trip to Genesis. It was kinda funny smelling cannabis a lot while walking down the streets. Seeing hippies blatantly smoking a blunt outside was cool. Almost forgot it was legal. xD

You need a prescription, Surri. It's not legal for just anyone. You have to pay a whopping $100 fine if you get caught with no prescription.

lol your such a buzz kill

but it still makes my day regardless :) (as your terms are not so unreasonable...$100s if i get caught...oh noez D: )

but anyways this chatter is mildly inappropriate so we should talk about something else in San Fransisco :p

all of you guys should really think about carpooling to this, especially if u can get a van and then gas would be super cheap. there should be an east coast roadtrip to cali :p

I will be going exclusively for SSB64. I can bring my recording setup and Pikachu N64 in case no one else is.

I am debating whether it is worth it to fly or drive.

I'd definitely say to bring your recording set up. If he goes, Darth will have a set up, and I probably will as well if I go, so you probably don't NEED to bring an N64 (although if you want to that's great too)

Okay. I have an excellent recording setup: Elgato EyeTV Plus, Macbook Pro, Adobe Master Collection CS5.

Also anyone play Pokemon Puzzle League? I would love to record a live match or two for the sake of tetrisattack.net. Same thing goes for Dr Mario on the Wii.

I usually record the audio and have a microphone stashed in the crowd to get the crowd audio. I hate watching vids without the hype of the crowd. I would prefer a dude standing with a camera pointed at the TV vs an HD recorded match with game audio only.

Best set up for recording games has to be VCR. If im able to go to this I will bring a few Vcrs/ types/N64's and copys of smash only thing players will have to bring will be controllers and maybe someone may have to bring a few tvs just for ssb as I would hate to go to this and have everything but a tv.

What is the advantage of a VCR over a capture card?

It seems like a VCR would be more work because you have to convert from tape format to a format you can put on the internet (using a capture card anyway?)

Its easy work but yes it would be more work. And most capture cards have frame delay when playing ssb unless you have a really good capture card and a top of the line laptop to use the capture card.

Not if your TV has AV output.

Also I haven't noticed significant lag with my capture card even when using it with splitters. It does dim the TV though when used that way.
