Opening the floodgates for 4th party characters can never be a good thing. Just think about all the ridiculousness that would come about from doing that.

As for the whole topic of MK, I don't think it's a stretch to say that an MK character in Smash Bros could work if they just removed the blood. Has anyone ever played MK VS DC? That game was rated T and it wasn't the end of the world for the game. The heavily toned down a lot of things about the game like there being very minimal blood and other things. Same thing can be done for Smash Bros. Lets use Scorpion as an example. He can still have all his iconic moves like his spear and whatnot and the only thing that would have to be toned down is the blood.



LoZ had a 7 year drought of console games though from ALTTP and OoT though.

Except two differences.
A) we're talking about the debatable dead series when it came to choosing a roster for Smash 64, Zelda was no question.
B) That 7 year drought of console games was padded by Link's Awakening. Metroid had nothing during that time. Like how there's some people who think no game happened for DK between 64 and Returns.

I'm starting to doubt Western oriented third-party characters actually, as Smash Bros is a Japanese franchise that celebrates Japanese gaming as a whole. The only one I could see is Shantae, as the Japanese developer Inti-Creates (Who you probably know for a ton of Japanese games such as Mighty No. 9, Mega Man Zero, Mega Man 9&10 and Azure Striker Gunvolt) is actually involved with the heavily series, developing it from the third installment onward, and because of this the game's art direction has become significantly more Japanese and other things in the game as well seem to have a different tone. Shantae has also become significantly less obscure to Japanese audiences after Pirate's Curse, after becoming a success there, I could see her in the game. She's the only Western third-party I could see happening. As for everyone else, I don't think so. But this is solely coming from me.

Pokemon was a run away success in Japan at the time and was already creating a firestorm of attention overseas. Samus was just kind of weird because it was debatable whether the series was dead or not. Keep in mind that plans for Metroid Prime weren't announced until 2001 so the franchise was pretty much in a 5 year hiatus at the time, which may not seem like that long nowadays but this was also back when Nintendo doing yearly updates on a good number of their franchises was far from unusual.

When did Nintendo ever do yearly installments for any franchise?? Mario and Pokemon generalization aside...which we still see today.

We got in Brawl, the internet exploded that day. Did that stop us from getting anymore characters in the future, specifically Nintendo characters? We still got , and . They weren't as hype as Sonic but we still got them. Not to mention we got future newcomers for Smash 4.

I'd like to see a new 3D Rayman game. Rayman 3 was my first Rayman game and I loved it (and Revolution), and there hasn't been a new 3D Rayman game for a while...

There's a number of 1st Party newcomers that could certainly sell well without the extra steps of a 3rd Party.

Lucas and Mewtwo have that veteran status though. Newcomers don't have the same luxury.

The Rayman thing is just celebrating 20 years of Rayman. He's one of my most wanted newcomers but it's nothing accept a celebration. I also heard it's Shigeru Miyamoto's birthday Happy birthday to my favourite developer!

Whoa,wait a second here. I'm not defending goku here when it comes to his inclusion for smash but when it comes to icon status

I don't see how goku isn't an icon for his media like cloud especially since I think Goku is more recognizable when someone thinks of anime/manga than cloud is for JRPGs. He's also been around much longer.

Yeah, its one thing if the character doesn't have an English voice, but if they do, then you should go the extra mile to get their English voice in the game.

This is how I see it going down too. You can't just show legendary characters like Ryu and Cloud then end on.....Rayman or Splatoon girl.

Then again I'm bias and grew up with Banjo. I'd be happy if we get all 3 though.

As someone who has never played a Final Fantasy game in their life... I think Cloud was the perfect inclusion. There are many people who are voicing their distain for Smash because of his inclusion, and obviously providing other of their personal favourites who should have been included instead. But when I think Final Fantasy I think Cloud. Take from that what you will. I'm not saying he has a better move set then (insert character I don't know), but he is definitely the face of the franchise to an outsider looking in. Much like how Marth is the poster child for Fire Emblem.

But I think Cloud's inclusion marks the dawn of something much more. I absolutely think the team has been working on characters since the release of Lucas/Roy/Ryu, and Cloud was definitely one. It has been 6 months since the last DLC characters were released... and that's plenty of time to be working on at least a few. I expect quite a few more with the December special broadcast. And some more huge announcements.

People who think there will be a single ballot winner are fools. I'm sorry but it's not a competition, it's a gauge to see what characters they should include in the game. DLC is 100% for the money, so why not put time and effort into characters people really want.

Smash 4 is the Wii U's golden ticket. This console will live for however long Smash goes for. Nintendo would be stupid to stop the hype now, and they would be absolutely insane for not taking advantage of this unique opportunity. Smash Bros. is now the most upper echelon fighting game there is. It's not just Nintendo characters, it's iconic characters.

I'm expecting something huge this December, and I don't think I'm getting consumed by the hype. So here is what I expect from Nintendo and the future of Smash Bros.:

• New Characters
• Veteran Characters
• Inkling character + Splatoon stage (**** your opinion on Splatoon, it doesn't matter that you don't want the Inklings as characters. It's one of Nintendo's hottest games and they would be insane not to take advantage of it)
  
• New stages
• Retro stages
• New music
• Mii costumes

I'm not going to make assumptions of what characters and stages will come back because that always creates conflict. But we'll be getting more. And I don't care if you personally hate Mii costumes, they are great for the game and a whole lot of fun. Hopefully we see some new music tracks, a lot of good songs left out from Brawl, and a lot of good songs not included at all.

December will be huge. There is absolutely no reason to hold a direct without some big news coming. We might expect them to actually announce the ballot winner... but you can be sure as **** that winner won't be the only ballot character coming to Smash.

On an unrelated note, I definitely think there will be a Smash 4 re-release for the NX with all the released DLC. Won't expect an actual new Smash game for a few years, but I sure as **** think they're going to milk this game to make sure the NX hits the ground running.

Cloud probably will have voice clips in the non-Japanese versions. Can't imagine him being exclusively Japanese. Marth and Roy made sense but Cloud speaking only Japanese would just be plain weird.

I'm going to change the paste here...Instead of talking about characters, I'm gonna guess when the Special Broadcast will air.

Looking back at June, that smash presentation was announced about a week before it aired, specifically on a Monday on June 8th and aired on Sunday June 14th.

If I were to go by that I would guess we will have our special broadcast announced on Monday November 30th, for it air on Sunday December 6th as it would also be the One Year Anniversary of Smash Wii U's release in Japan. It's not going to be a direct so I'm betting that Sakurai won't designate himself to do it on a week day, just my thought though...

Edit: Also starting from April we have been DLC on a consistent 1.5 to 2 month basis so I personally wouldn't think Sakurai wouldn't present his broadcast too deep in December, even with the ballot just ending on the 3rd of October.

they can just use lines he already has from other games for Smash

As long as DLC keeps going it will keep the Wii U longer. NX is coming Xmas next year but, I know a lot of us won't get it on launch. Me included. So I'll continue enjoying Wii U into 2016, and early and late 2017. Before getting NX. It might be on it's way out but I'm sure a lot of us will enjoy Wii U a little longer.

Besides it's not best to get the NX until Nintendo shows what they can do with it and succeed with it.

Back to characters. Don't know who we're getting but it's exciting. Masahiro Sakurai your my second favourite developer and you did a great job! Thank you for your hard work and I look forward to whoever else joins! Thank you and you and the team get a vacation after DLC is done!
