The way I play against Marth honestly owes more to Brawl ICs than to Melee ICs, which does indeed mean throwing out a load of blizzards. Marth can tipper you through it, but the spacing is really precise and if you know the Marth can pull it off, you can just feign a blizzard desynch and then roll through the fsmash and grab/dsmash him.

edit: Okay, maybe owing more to Brawl ICs is a stretch, but it's pretty **** similar.

I like using ds'ed blizzards to make Marth think he can approach me after it ends. Then I just punish what he does with Popo. It's pretty straightforward.

LOLs peef is prolly drunk, had to quote this to save it from possible editing.

anyhow yeah read the character match up guide for samus, its still very accurate and current and has lots of good information in it, the long and short of it is, dont get hit and hit her with things, for specific examples click the link in my sig to the guide.

But really. The samus matchup is all about Iceblocks. Theyre kindof unpunishable vs her at most distances.

do you guys ever get bored of ice climbers? Tried playing them today and I couldn't get any enjoyment out of it, sure I only play my crappy roommate and cpus in between tournaments but still...

falcon/falco/doc/marth was much more fun to play, combozzz vs infinites...zzzz...

maybe it's just a phase, dunno

ICs are the characters I enjoy using the most, but it can be fun to use other characters every now and then. I was at a tourney aimed at unranked players yesterday where I wasn't allowed to use mid-tier and above on the previous tier list; I enjoyed screwing around with Roy/Yoshi/Young Link/Kirby/Pikachu in pools. In brackets, I decided to mostly go Kirby for the hell of it with a bit of Mewtwo here and there and that was also entertaining.

haha yeah smakis i definitely go to spacies or whatever when i wanna keep my fingers warm and just make it easier to maintain momentum

but ic's are truly my main, and whenever im warmed up, it feels good to just have destructive punishments and instant death stuff. sometimes one random wd dsmash -> edge guard will take entire stocks, EEEEAZY

might try some other characters for a while, I guess it gets kind of boring when you don't have to struggle to get those grabs at all, and chaingrabs is not even close to as flashy/fun comboz

hopefully it will be fun again before next tournament ; )

haha yeah its difficult to stay dedicated 100%

and i think that sticking to 1 character 100% can lead to closed-mindedness

in tournament its a great thing

but overall u gotta have other characters to enjoy

Yeah Smakis, I believe everybody has this kind of period where your main ain't that satisfying and you start play another char.

I also believe that's make you go on a whole new level of playing because you start developping mindgames/strategy way faster after...

Also, I believe EVERY ICs player sometimes play wayyyyy better with Sopo it's because (I'm guessing) we're more focused on the game with Sopo we makes less WD d-smash bull**** and we start playing on a different way, thinking more, rushing less and in the end we play on a better way... And with this, oppenent must adapt on a different playstyle and they sometimes think they got a huge advantage so they rush more and think less (the exact opposite of what WE Sopo are doing) and thinking >>>>>>> Rushing when you got a good level at SSBM

That was my opinion.

^ that

I'm currently trying to zone nana out to be able to play like that when both are alive, and I still think sopo needs more attention =P

ICs are the only char that I have always had fun with, aside from GaW.

Also, chaingrabs aren't nearly as guaranteed as people think because Smash DI exists. Aside from their infinites, IC doesn't have any free stuff.

And god yes, SoPo is too fun. I was playing SoPo against Darksyde's Falco/Fox/Falcon tonight. Combos soo good.

On a related note, mixing up B/D/Uthrows makes tech-chases feel so much easier to perform. On platform stages, it's hella fun moving between platforms with grabs/aerials. I think I did something tonight like Jab->Grab->Bthrow->tech-chase regrab->Uthrow to right platform->Waveland regrab->Uthrow ->Usmash onto top platform->waveland regrab->Dthrow->dthrow->Dthrow off platform-> run-off Fast-falled Uair-> Utilt->Bair

SoPo combos are sooo cute. He has some of the best throws as far as positioning the opponent is concerned.

Also, I've started uthrowing Marth with SoPo. It's such a good way to pepper him with Uairs and make him throw his double jump cards while staying relatively safe.

Also, holy **** Bthrow is SOOOOO good in IC dittos. SoPo can grab a dual ICs, bthrow and then **** them up from there. Also, SHFFLNair ***** Nana. You can carry her across the stage if you wanted with SHFFLNair.

Quick question:
Something that always happens to me as Ice Climbers, that I never see happen to anyone else, is that whenever I re-spawn, Nana feels like taunting. I have no idea what is causing it, but is there anyway to stop her? Because it is causing me to have to stall out my invincibility frames rather than rushing in.

If you want to keep her from taunting just side b out of your respawn cloud. ICs really arent that great in their halo anyway.

is it possible to ice block to chaingrab/regrab
kinda like: ice climbers get grab do some damage > opponent mashing to break free > Timing nana to iceblock so when opponent breaks grab the ice block will hit them in their lag > popo grab > grab stuff

Kyu Puff and I worked on this awhile ago, and it doesn't really work. It only works as a mixup but there will almost always be a better option.

heres a fun mixup lol, did it on accident in one of my old combo vids but i tried it more and it kinda sorta works LOL

fthrow ice block

if they tech toward u u can grab again
if they tech in place they have to block or get hit by ice block. u can grab
if they tech away they have to block, get hit by ice block, or jump (even if u dont punish, theyre in bad position)
if they dont tech they get ice block reset

fun stuff hahah. it aint wobbling but fun options are always good :D

edit: lost to johnny. i have a phobia against socal players, please help? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_rD0Fatt5M&feature=sub

I accidentally did fthrow -> ice block reset a couple years ago on a Sheik. A lot of people assumed it was intentional since I still played Brawl then.

i find it hilarious that every single ic does the same thing when the opponent die, wavedash around, techskill everywhere, then once they approach... everybody rolls x)

from what I could see you need more consistency with your grabgame, and try not to letting falcon eat away your shield like that (i'm saying it like it's easy rofl)

I definitely hit that point after Apex. I felt that unless I was playing against people who can beat me consistently, I'm not gonna get any better than I currently am. After returning to school (where there's some pretty good people, but nobody who can beat me consistently) I decided that for the semester I would focus almost exclusively on Fox, Falco, and Jigglypuff. The goal was to develop more consistent technical skill and learn to control space better. After only a month and a half I think my tech skill has improved considerably - I now have what I believe is a very solid Fox and my Falco is getting there. I tried going back to ICs a little today and felt a lot more comfortable (and consistent) maneuvering with them, because compared to Fox/Falco, ICs are not as demanding on the fingers.

As for Jigglypuff, I really just don't understand the character. I think that underscores a big hole in my game though - being a good Jigglypuff player seems to boil right down to the fundamentals of Smash and fighting games in general.

The other good part about focusing on these other characters is that hopefully they'll be usable at tournament level. I'd like to try a lot of Fox/Falco at the next smashfest I go to (in a few months lol) and see how they stack up.

So yeah, if you are getting bored of ICs, playing other characters is definitely beneficial and fun, but I'd suggest trying to set some goals for yourself. Try to learn things from other characters that you can apply to your ICs game.
