It's fair enough to get what you think from KH and the original Advent Children. It's all we had for quite some time. Though I feel like I'm one of the few people that actually understood Cloud down to a deeper level beyond waving it off as "emo".

The short novellas between VII and Advent Children Complete also help complete the package though. I won't go into too much detail (best of luck for myself on that one :p) but, incoming spoilers. If you don't wanna read then give them a read for yourself someday, and ESPECIALLY check out Advent Children Complete. To me, it's the littlest of details that helped solidify Cloud and even a couple of others.

Shortly after the end of VII, Cloud and Tifa opted for settling down in the city of Edge and shortly afterwards Cloud started up the delivery business. He was just fine up until a fated delivery reminded him of what he lost. Elmyra had him send flowers to the Forgotten City in remembrance of Aerith. Made him think of Zack and Aerith, and he fell into a brief state of depression over it. But here's the funny thing about that. Cloud bounced back from it because he talked to Tifa about it. Anyway, fastforward a little more and the disease known as Geostigma starts spreading due to Jenova's influence after Meteor fell. Cloud brings the orphaned boy, Denzel, back after discovering him at the old Church in Midgar. With Tifa, Denzel and Marlene all together in Edge building a life together, Cloud was happy. ...well, as happy as he could be knowing that Denzel was sick with Geostigma, so he spent a lot of his time away and busied himself researching the body and trying to find a cure for Denzel. Coming up empty-handed no matter how hard he tried, he eventually got the disease too. And at that point, it was the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak. He was helpless in the wake of an incurable disease and he let his family and friends down, so he felt. And that brought back some ghosts of his past yet again in Aerith and Zack. That's a pretty damn bleak world to live in and for someone as strong as him to fall, it took the support of his friends and some soul searching to try and find his stride again. And lo and behold? By the end of Advent Children Complete, he's found his fighting spirit and saved the world yet again.

Heck my favorite moment that really helps solidify Cloud's strength as a character in this version is when the team is fighting Bahamut SIN, rather than show up after taking Marlene to safety and immediately skipping to fighting Bahamut, he rides in on Fenrir just in time to see Tifa and Denzel on the verge of imminent death. Seeing the past losses of Zack and Aerith in his mind, he saves them both in seperate spots at the SAME TIME.

That was the moment that I could really say to myself "Cloud's back." instead of him just popping out of nowhere in Edge in the original AC.

Advent Children Complete doesn't explain anything in VII at all. It's a new chapter, really. Everything in VII made sense, and thanks to Complete and just a little more searching within the characters, so does the movie imo.

You take someone like Cloud who had all this crap thrown at him and more and for him to bounce back with some fairly done emotional struggles inside himself, and I can throw out those "angsty emo" accussations. ...or at least, if it's gonna be said, there's some pretty damn good reasons behind said moments for Cloud until he comes through. Yeah I'm pretty sure we've talked about it before.

That being said, I find it kind of funny that, in a way, Lightning got her three stories, and Cloud has his three tales through Crisis Core (though it focused on Zack it helped set the foundation for the future and a legacy), VII and Advent Children. Cloud's story is over in my opinion. And thanks to Complete, it ended on a high note. ...that's not to say that the story of VII is over since we've seen Dirge of Cerberus and Vincent's role in saving the world, but I digress.

Anyway, done rambling! Going to sleep. Bleck I hate being sick. x.x

I love the original FFVII Cloud. He was goofy, cocky, poked fun at others, and had weird traits like getting sick in vehicles. What I liked best was his backstory. It was hard to hate him with his past since he was an underdog or getting blamed (like Tifa's dad thinking that it was Cloud that brought her to the dangerous mountains). And then there's of course him fighting Sephiroth after the Nibelheim incident.

Also interesting in FFVII for me was how part of the game made you like Cloud and hate Tifa. She didn't consider him a really good friend, but more of someone that she just knew, and he didn't really grab her attention. Early on, she basically only got closer to him through pity because of how he thought he was Zack.

AC Cloud was just way too much of a drastic change for me. It didn't feel like it was in line with his usual personality.

I actually think I own one. The collector's edition of Advent Children that I have (my god the irony is so think I'm drowning in it) came with one, I just never got around to reading it. But that aside, I'm going to beat a dead horse here and say that this one of the reasons why a VII remake would be nice. In addition to a new translation, a revised script to tie the original game into it's extended continuity would be nice and I would like to see the novellas adapted into extended/new scenes and an extended ending. Explaining **** in obscure side material is just bad story telling, but after reading your plot summary I can see where you're coming from.

I'll agree with you that Cloud's story is done. But on the subject of DoC I'm surprise Square hasn't dubbed it non-cannon.

Good luck getting over whatever you have.

To be honest, I'm not really fond of what they've done with the race. I'd rather they had just put both races in, but I suppose that the Viera would be criticized for being too similar to the kitty people.

The fusion of bunny and lizard is one of the goofiest things I've ever seen.

I think it looks more like a mouse O.o

Anyway, I would've just liked Viera... but I can see why it would be too similar to the cats and elves.

Idk, the art looks kinda legit... now I'm confused. ;-;

I think this was the only "April Fool's":
Physical Appearance
- Taller and more sophisticated than an Elezen but with a build sturdier than a Roegadyn
- Customizable ear length, snout length, skin color, and “package” size
Basic Characteristics
- Hail from the Farreach, leading many to take up residence in the city-state of Sharlayan.
- Have excellent negotiating skills (store prices are 10% lower)
- Movement speed is 1.2 times faster than other races
- They have an extremely musky odor which other animals detest
.............Chocobos and other living mounts will not allow Viangaa to ride them
.............All field monsters will aggro
- Skilled at both the bow and magic (starting bonuses to DEX and INT)
- Extremely conservative. Conversation with other races is strictly forbidden.
.............If chat window is used, a Viangaa assassin will be sent to stalk the player.

This isn't really FF related, but it related to Square Enix and is an interesting news article. The short version is that Dragon Quest X on Wii U only sold 33 Thousand copies in Japan. A Dragon Quest game sold poorly in Japan. The series that's basically a national holiday every time a new one comes out sold poorly.

Take that as you will.

It's really low, but I think it's attributed to already being on the Wii. The graphics aren't really a huge bump up for the Wii U, so all that's left is off screen play. Install base is really small on the Wii U, and everyone who was interested in DQX most likely already had it and couldn't/wouldn't double dip.

Even the Wii version didn't do that well in Japan for its first week (300k or so). Japan just isn't looking for a DQ MMO.

I don't think ANYONE was asking for a DQ MMO.

The least they could have done is made it a spin-off. I don't know why Square insists that their MMOs have to be part of a main series. Blizzard didn't call WoW Warcraft IV and EA didn't call Ultima Online Ultima IX.

Oh, right. Lmao it sounds girly.

They should just call it Bravely Default then or something :p

It's not that is sounds girly, it's that it sounds like a title that was made by someone with a very loose grasp on the English language (to be fair, this is probably true).

We'll probably get it changed into something that sounds much less Engrishy, although I'm expecting everyone to rage at whatever they title is changed to since we're all used to calling it Bravely Default anyway.

Yeah, the game could use a new name for outside of Japan, though I do hope they keep the word Brave in there somewhere, I imagine they would if they go for a name change. I really wouldn't be surprised at all to see the name Final Fantasy added on.

Honestly, I can't really say. I'm only level 6, and can't give a good response. There's a few major things that need to be fixed, and are being worked on, but none of that will come into play until phase 3. Right now, It's basically what's been already shown in the Youtube videos, with a few added things. Phase 3 is going to implement/take out many things that need to be and don't need to be. I guess we'll just wait and see... but I have a feeling Phase 3 will be the longest testing phase. We only have about half the game right now. So far it's pretty good, but like I said, there's some things that need to be worked on...

Don't forget that it's a beta, not a demo. Of course there's going to be things that need fixing.

Honestly, I just hope the game is hardcore and actually takes skill to progress in. I'm tired of every recent MMO I've played basically being a WoW reskin.

EDIT: Also, I've started a new play through of VIII.

If it's a Japanese MMO, the thing it's going to require isn't skill. But hours, days, weeks of grinding

Well, it is a Final Fantasy title. The series is known for having rather feminine guys in it.

Unless you count the 80s fantasy-rffic Nintendo Power Guide for FF1.

Well, I suppose that's true of most MMOs.

Japanese ones tend to be poor at hiding it, though.
