Given the increased support this thread has been getting, I thought I might post this potential moveset. I make no claims of knowing balanced percentages/knockback, etc.; this is mostly just fun ideas of how his moves and playstyle might function:

Ganon

Flavor text: The Demon King Ganon is the true form of Ganondorf, appearing when the gerudo releases the might of his Triforce of Power. Ganon is the largest and heaviest character in Smash, but that doesn’t mean he’ll go down easy! Watch out for his massive damage, and the long range of his mighty trident. Also, while his walking and running speeds might be slow, his ability to teleport around the battlefield makes him more unpredictable than he seems.

General Playstyle: Ganon is a strange one. While you might think a demon in possession of the Triforce of Power would be a brawling brute, most of his battles in the source material have him teleporting around the battlefield and taking potshots at Link. Taking both of these personalities into account, Ganon in Smash plays best with careful spacing/retreating tactics, but keeps some tools that prevent him from becoming a helpless punching bag up close. Most of his moves benefit from stage control to maximize the hitboxes of his fist, projectiles, and his trident's sweetspot. Up close and mid-range, players will want to learn how to manage his grab spacing, superarmor frames, B and v-B charge storage, and the spacing of his dash attack and teleport.

The origin of Ganon's moves are shown next to the move name.

Misc/Gimmicks

Ganon has generous superarmor on his moves, and an ambient superarmor attribute akin to Bowser's "Tough Guy", "Triforce of Power". This prevents flinching from moves that deal less than 25 units of knockback, is increased when crouching in place, and is amplified further with his v-B.

Ganon is big, and so is his trident. Several of his moves have range comparable to Corrin and Simon/Richter.

Ganon blinks for his roll and spot dodge, making it impossible to see which option he is going for.

All trident moves have an electrified sweetspot at the tip. As well as dealing the most damage and knockback, the slight freeze frames give Ganon an additional opportunity for spacing. Trident attacks otherwise deal the second-best damage at Ganon's hands, and worst along the pole.

Neutral
  • Jab (misc): 2-hit combo with the trident – an underarm sweep to a two-handed overhead smash.
  • Rapid Jab (LttP): After the initial sweep, Ganon will whirl his trident overhead, smashing it downward on release.
  • Dash (Various): Ganon performs a shortened version of the pew-pew-pew staggered teleport that also features in his ^-B. This causes him to blink out of and back into existence 3 times as he moves forward some distance. This can be used to ‘pass through’ fighters if Ganon's hurtbox blinks ‘out’ while on top of them, or to damage them when blinking ‘in’. These hits take the form of dark energy around Ganon, akin to Metwo’s neutral aerial, though the hitbox is smaller, leaving him vulnerable from above.

Tilts
  • > (Various): A powerful trident poke with significant horizontal knockback at the tip.
  • v (Various/OoT): Ganon brings his fist downward in a ground-pound attack. Significant startup lag, with superarmor just before and during the slam. The hitbox on Ganon's fist deals electric damage and decent diagonal knockback, while a hitbox slightly in front of him has a chance to trip.
  • ^ (LBW): Ganon summons a multi-hitting pillar of dark energy on top of and directly above himself. Will scoop fighters upward at close range.

Aerials
  • n (Various): Ganon blinks in place (no special hit/hurtbox properties), causing dark damage. A decent getaway tool.
  • ^ (Various): Arcs his trident overhead. Fair juggling tool.
  • > (OoA/OoS): Ganon blinks (no special hit/hurtbox properties), sending a blinking mirror image of himself outward. Relatively quick space control tool.
  • < (OoT): Ganon sweeps his cape backward. Proper timing gives increased priority against projectiles.
  • v (misc): Ganon thrusts his trident downward, and plummets with it. Can be used to drag fighters down as a suicide KO, but only if the trident skewers at the sweetspot, which generally requires very precise spacing due to its length.

Smash Attacks
  • > (LBW): Ganon brings his trident inward to imbue it with dark energy, then thrusts it out. This is one of the most damaging smashes in the game, but has plenty of lag. While the attack is charged, there is a darkness hitbox on the trident with upward knockback (this generally won't combo into the main hit, however).
  • v (OoA/OoS): Ganon charges dark energy like a hadouken, then slams his palm on the ground. Large hitbox which buries at the fist.
  • ^ (FS): Ganon thrusts his trident upward, releasing a thunderbolt directly above him. Long, narrow hitbox with sweetspots at the tip of both the trident and the bolt. Slightly above Palutena ^-smash range, but it won't scoop upward.

Specials
  • B - Din's Dark Fire (LttP): Ganon twirls his trident overhead, causing a ring of bat-shaped fire projectiles to swirl around him in a circular formation. The ring expands outward, reaching a max range about half the length of Battlefield, then back in to Ganon, who cannot move during the animation. The bats deal little knockback, acting more as a keepaway/gimping/combo-ing tool. With precise timing, smaller characters can theoretically jump between the bats. End lag, but fast startup allows for things like sweetspot v-tilt into B.
This move also has a "charge". If the whole animation is completed, Ganon will flash, and B can be pressed again to unleash a swarm of fiery bats with high fire damage and mild homing properties. Ganon can move freely while the bats are "charged", though he cannot store the charge indefinitely, as it will wear off after some time.

  • >-B - Trident Throw (FS): Ganon throws his trident like a boomerang. On flying, it strikes multiple times for high damage and minimal knockback, then zips back with a weak hitbox on its return. While the trident is flying outward, mashing B will cause Ganon to extend a palm and imbue the trident with blue fire, causing big damage when it hits. Ganon will remain in this prone state until the trident returns, however. Otherwise, Ganon can move as normal while the trident is out, though all of his grounded attacks/grab are replaced by a basic swiping palm move, and he cannot perform aerials.
The trident cannot be grabbed by other players, though it will clank with powerful hitboxes/projectiles, at which point it will poof back to Ganon.

  • v-B - Darkness Technique (LttP): Holding the move will cause Ganon to raise his cape, which sends a shadow creeping up him. Charging functions similarly to Cloud's Limit, though it is faster, only charges manually, and "partial" charge will drain over time. At full charge, Ganon gains universal superarmor up to a certain damage % for a certain amount of time. This effectively buffs his "Triforce of Power" attribute, negating its relative uselessness at higher percentages, and giving Ganon a shot at late stock victory.
  • ^-B Teleport (misc/all): Ganon teleports with the blinking hit/hurtbox properties of his dash attack. Initial movement can start in 8 directions, with further slight influence over direction when Ganon is already moving. Holding the button moves Ganon further, with large max range. Starts up quick, with some end lag on release. Note Ganon can still be gimped from above and below when popping back "in". Ganon cannot act out of teleport and goes into freefall if he doesn't land on-stage.

Throws
  • Grab (LttP/FS/OoT): Ganon's grab takes the form of the magical crystal that he has a tendency to trap princesses in. This appears in front of Ganon in a manner similar to Greninja's grab, tying it for the best non-tether grab range, albeit with slightly more lag than a standard grab.
  • Pummel: Ganon shocks the trapped fighter with magic.
  • >: Ganon performs a force palm of dark energy that sends fighters back a good distance.
  • ^: Ganon levitates the fighter overhead before the crystal swells and explodes. Kill throw.
  • v: Ganon smashes the crystal downward, Sends at standard follow-up angle.
  • <: Ganon skewers the fighter with his trident and flings them overhead.

Final Smash

Couple of ideas:
  • Malice Incarnate (BoTW): Ganon teleports behind the stage similarly to the new Giga Bowser, and becomes consumed with malice before shooting a massive laser across the battlfield.
  • Dark World (LttP): Ganon creates a huge crystal that sucks fighters in, triggering a cutscene in which they are transformed into rabbits or monsters (depending on if they are a "good" or "evil" character). As they run around haplessly, Ganon looms behind and batters them with a big trident sweep.

Visuals

Though he holds it by default, Ganon's trident immediately disappears/reappears in a poof of dark magic for moves that would benefit from simpler animation, such as his v-smash.

When Ganon is KO’d (other than screen KO), a glowing triangle triforce piece pops out of his explosion (LoZ).

Colors: https://i.redd.it/gcnf9nu168811.png

Entrance (OoA/OoS/FS): Ganon breaks free of his seal, rising up from the ground.
  • ^-Taunt (LBW): Ganon raises a fist, displaying a glowing triforce piece.
  • >-Taunt (LoZ): Ganon strikes a vampiric pose with his cape, and laughs.
  • v-Taunt (misc): Ganon pounds his trident on the ground, causing a deep ringing sound.
  • Victory 1 (misc): Two moblins dance around Ganon, which he swipes aside to strike a pose.
  • Victory 2 (AoL): Ganon faces the screen dramatically as he is overcome with shadow, his eyes bright.
  • Victory 3 (misc): Back turned, Ganon twirls around dramatically, displaying a triforce piece that floats in his palm. If any of the Links and/or Zelda/Sheik was an opponent, he has two/three.
That's a great moveset idea Porygon2 Porygon2 well done!
Let me know if you want me to include that into the OP and I'll be happy to do so with credit to you.

My most wanted Zelda rep, only slightly above Mipha/Urbosa. I would love to have a second Ganon. We already have 3 Links and 2 Zeldas. I support.

If he got in, I really hope he'd have a bright, light blue skin. Zelda 1 colors. Bless.

That’s pretty much exactly what I would want to see out of a Ganon moveset. VERY well done.

If the selection for DLC was made by Nintendo, there's a chance that their character choices aren't too dissimilar to their other big crossover Nintendo Land.

And one of the main characters of that game was this guy.
If I'm being honest I kind of thought it would be really cool to see a true Ganon design that took inspiration from this. I hated the tease that was Puppet Ganon in the Wind Waker, and this looks like it could have been an awesome basis for Toon Ganon. He's got the horns that they teased when Ganondorf was """Transforming""" into Puppet Ganon, the proportions, the eyes.

I just want to see a really good classic Ganon rendered in 3D, A Link Between Worlds was just a little taste. Hopefully we'll be getting some 2D Zeldas in HD someday.

I would really love a top down Legend of Zelda on the switch, but I feel like the formula might need to be shaked up a bit since the last one we got, while a great iteration, was derivative of ALTTP and was sort of a “standard” Zelda game apart from the painting gimmick. I’m not sure how that’d bode for Ganon, but hopefully he starts to become more prominent in future titles.

imo, ALBW being "standard" was the best thing about it after the DS games. A shakeup is an order but 2D games probably don't need it as drastically as the 3D games did. All the 2D games really need to get by is good dungeon and puzzle design, new gadgets and one solid new gameplay idea.

As for Ganon, I wouldn't be surprised if he went back into the cooler again after BOTW, especially if the next games are direct sequels, but i'm sure he'll always return in the future. It's kind of his thing.

So Ganon might potentially be one of the final bosses in Classic Mode.
For those who don't know, in Classic mode you may get to fight all sorts of bosses instead of just Master Hand as it was in the past.
This is where bosses like Rathalos and Galleom will appear.
You apparently get to fight Bowser too, who in turn would become Giga Bowser. (Like back in Melee's adventure mode)

Due to the background seeming quite similar to the final battleground in Ocarina of Time, Ganondorf might transform into Ganon once beaten and you get to battle him too.

It's a step up from his usual role of only appearing for a split second in Ganondorf's Final Smash so that's something at least if this is true.

I would prefer a playable pig Ganon but i'd be just as happy having him in the game as a boss. Besides, the version of pig Ganon I want playable would unquestionably be of the trident wielding variety, and not the dual wielding crocodile pig from OOT ( not that he's not awesome )

I'm happy if this is true, but at the same time, it's not the Ganon we are asking for.
OoT Ganon is where Ganon started to have all those weird designs that aren't faithful to his classic appearence, and those designs are considerably less iconic than the blue pig.

Ok, my post sounds way more negative than actually is, I'm happy if Ganon gets his own bossfight... it's just that it doesn't fully satisfy me yet, I want the Blue Pig!

Yeah It's true that ever since Ocarina of Time, they have been doing a lot of weird and experimental stuff with Ganon, at least for the 3D home console titles, be it being a dual sword wielding monster, a puppet, a quadruped lion boar thing (Never understood why that one caught on for a while) or a malice infested beast.

At least the top down entries kept him in his classic appearance. I'd love for at least one of the 3D home console titles to just give us the biped classic Ganon back with Trident and everything.

And yeah, the bossfight would most likely be the version from Ocarina of Time since they already have a model for him and everything. At least its nice to see him get more prominence in Smash since he always felt like such an afterthought in the past.

You mean weird and experimental stuff with the whole series. OOT is the most basic 3D game, while every game after that always had something weird added to it... some of them more intrusive than others. BOTW is kinda refreshing to me since the most experimental thing it does is just...be really really big and let you climb everything. Although I do get what you mean regarding Ganon... My main issue with Ganon in the 3D series is that once he's in monster form, all intelligence seems to just go out the window. They already established beast Ganon can speak in ALTTP, so why go back on that?

I'm also super tired of quadruped Ganon. I hate it so much.

Yeah that's another thing I'm not too fond with Ganon's modern depiction in the Zelda series, particularly in the 3D home console titles, It's like ever since they made Ganondorf a thing, that all characterization goes towards his human form while Ganon is essentially reduced to a mindless beast solely meant to be seen as Ganondorf's ultimate form.
To the point that even design wise, he ends up looking more and more like some mindless demon pig beast rather than a bipedal monster with at least some form of intelligence.

A Link Between Worlds was a step in the right direction when it came to at least trying to bring back Ganon to his former state, though unfortunately that was also quite short lived too due to the interference of Yuga and all....

Well, it seems like Ganon is all but disconfirmed as a DLC fighter. He's a boss in WoL. RIP Pig Mage.

Looks good to me. I'm just glad Zelda got something new, even if not a playable fighter.

It's nice to know that despite not being playable, that Ganon at least got a bit more love with having his own boss battle and what would most likely be his main theme to go along with him rather than still being stuck as a split second final Smash for Ganondorf.

Well we at least managed to make it this far, hopefully Ganon will get a bit more recognition in Smash and hopefully increased support for the next game, since previously he was practically nonexistent due to his incredibly short appearance with Ganondorf's FS, and even in that, it was the quadruped version from TP. So things may be looking up a bit more for him in the future.

Either that, or he practically replaced Ridley as the Mr-Too-Big-Boss-Mcguffin and we have to spend another 17 years begging for him, hopefully not......

Confirmed boss moves:
Sword swipe, upward sword swipe, sword frenzy combo, sword jump attack, charge, explosive fireball, stomp, lightning bolt slash, Calamity-style laser (low health only). Is only hurt by his tail weak point.

That realization when Ganon finally has the canon moveset we always wanted for Ganondorf.

Man, if Zelda is ever going to get a newcomer at this point, I hope for a scaled down Ganon.

Here's some gameplay footage of Ganon if you want to see it. Warning though, this features other bosses too but Ganon is the first one shown so you can quit the video as soon as his part is done.

Looking through this video, OoT Ganon has certainly been made a lot more versatile than he was back in OoT. I would have liked them to include a few more references to his other incarnations though but who knows, maybe one of those energy balls can be reflected back at him like Dead Mans Volley if timed right?

Not watching the boss battle, but I'm glad Ganon is getting something.

I genuinely think a playable Ganon (OG blue pig Ganon with a trident) is a character that a lot of people want but don't realize until they see it. He sorta feels like the last major Nintendo villain not on the roster. Despite sharing a story role with Ganondorf, their designs and fighting styles would be totally different (even if you totally reworked Dorf based on his canon battles) and I will still hold out hope that one day, he will be realized in Smash. There is no other Zelda newcomer that I want anywhere near as much as Ganon.

I'd imagine you can stun him if you hit him in the face first. Couldn't you do that in Ocarina of Time too?

Yeah Ganon does seem like one of those "didn't know I wanted" and "makes sense in hindsight" type of characters if he was eventually included into Smash. It's just that the idea for him didn't really spring up into many folk's minds until A Link Between Worlds came out and brought him back into the public eye. (Well, the biped trident wielding incarnation at least)

Some might complain that he's "another triforce wielder" but at this point, I think most people would take any new Zelda newcomer so long as they have a unique moveset since we haven't had a unique Zelda newcomer in a very long time now, which Ganon most certainly will have as there isn't any character in Smash that has the same built as him (Other than maybe K.Rool but at most, he'd only share some minor animation poses over actual attacks)

Eh, I don't buy this reasoning. "Another starter pokemon" I can kind of get seeing as it limits you to fire/grass/water again - but the happenstance of being a triforce user doesn't really come with any restrictions to the moveset. Also if people want rep for other Zelda races, they should push for the patrician's choice of a transforming Young Link revamp.

Considering Piranha Plants inclusion, I can see him including a regular Goron or Zora eventually. Maybe even a Zelda enemy like a Moblin or Octorok if he really wants to go outside of the box....

But yeah, I don't really agree with that whole argument either, so long as said "Triforce wielder" brings something fresh and new to the table like Tetra and Ganon can (Especially since they already have vastly different design's from the standard forms that are playable anyway and are only connected in lore), then I'd say go for it.

My personal pipedream for "regular" enemy is a metroid that floats like Jiggs and mutates for its specials and smash attacks.

Actually, looking back at Ganon's boss footage, I was wondering if it may be possible to implement both his dual blades from Ocarina of Time and his trident from A Link to the Past into his battle style in Smash.

You know how K.Rool can lose his crown as it temporarily becomes an item for others to pick up and throw until he gets it back.
What if likewise, whenever Ganon doesn't have his trident on him after throwing it (Be it being pocketed by Villager or Isabelle or simply missing him after coming back, turning into a regular item for the moment) he pulls out the dual blades from Ocarina of Time temporarily and fights with those until he gets his Trident back? Granted Sakurai would have to give him two separate movesets (At least in terms of attacks that need the Trident) but It may be an interesting unique mechanic that Ganon could make use of?

I remember Haibu's Ganon moveset had a trident toss attack and would attack with his bare hands while it was away, so that could be implemented.
Maybe they could be daggers like the one Ganondorf has on his hip.

I toyed in my moveset with the idea of one his Smash attacks utilizing dual swords, almost as if he's summoning various weapons out of hammerspace. I'd prefer this for a revamped Ganondorf, however, with an additional detail that they could change color based on his costume. This way they could also rep Wind Waker. Same deal with Dead Man's Volley.

Personally, I prefer Ganondorf keeping his OoT Ganon form for his Final Smash, while I'd want a playable moblin Ganon to have the trident.

Speaking of, do you guys remember the Smashified version of Ganon that was done by revvels? I asked and they gave me a transparent version to work with :) Go crazy with it!

There's a sizeable amount of Zelda fans who don't like how the only Zelda characters are Triforce users regardless of any differences or variety they have.

Personally I feel like most of the Zelda one-off characters are not really notable enough for playability, but Ganon is behind characters like Skull Kid in popularity for the choice of a Zelda newcomer.

In that case, maybe give Ganondorf the dual blades too, that way in case the player enjoys Ganon's dual blades but doesn't like the fact they have to constantly get rid of the trident in order to have access to them, Ganondorf would have them full time as an additional option.

Perhaps design it in a way where the dual blades for Ganon are powerful, but very situational to where their more suited as finishers after having racked up a lot of damage with the trident, whereas Ganondorf's are a bit weaker, but faster to use, making them more useful for full time use.

Just spitballing some idea's there. I'd imagine Ganondorf's dual blades would be more inspired by the ones from Wind Waker and Hyrule Warriors whereas Ganon's blades would be more like how they where used in Ocarina of Time and Smash Ultimate.

Anyone else kind of bothered that "Ganon" and "Ganondorf" are used interchangeably to refer to his human form? It makes searching for fan art of the pig form a lot harder. You have do specify "pig Ganon" or "Beast Ganon" and you know not everybody refers to him that way... meanwhile, nobody would ever refer to his monster form as Ganondorf.

It's also confusing to specify that we want Pig Ganon specifically for Smash Bros.

This is really good but I do wish they left his eyes pure white. He doesn't look right with irises and pupils, though I know his ALTTP artwork has it, but the sprite sure didn't.

In any case, I'm not too confident about Ganon for the Fighter pass DLC. We need to make some noise for Ganon to get people wanting him as bad as they wanted Ridley and K. Rool, and maybe if enough buzz is generated, he'll be in a theoretical wave 2... or the next game, in 10 years.

Yeah you can thank the internet's tl;dr habits for that. Always needing to shorten things up because its quicker and easier to type. It's why you also see characters like Toon Link and Young Link be referred to as "Tink" and "Yink" for example. Ganondorf should really be given a different shorter nickname so as to not get him mixed up with Ganon during conversations, like "Dorf" or something. But I guess the community probably won't concern themselves with that until Ganon actually becomes playable in Smash...

Hopefully Sakurai will get what people mean when they say that they want Ganon in Smash and not mistakenly make the wrong distinction too and assume that "he's already playable" otherwise we probably will have to give him nicknames like "Pig Ganon" until he finally makes it in too. Like how Toon Link supporters referred to him as Wind Waker Link before he made it in Brawl.

I'm a supporter of Ganon, and Ganon is one of my most wanted characters along with Adeleine and Karate Joe (and maybe Cpt Syrup).
Though, since he's a boss in this game, I have lost all my hopes... I still want him, but I think it's not happening, not in this game.
Well, it's not impossible, we have 3 versions of Link... it's just that it became very unlikely now that he's a boss and he's referred as just "Ganon", even though he uses a different design.
I hope he makes it in the next game, and especially I hope people will start supporting him more now that Ridley and K Rool are in the game.

About the name, I think that Pig Ganon still creates confusion; OoT Ganon has some pig traits, Twilight Princess Ganon is still a sort of pig, and even Calamity Ganon is, sort of.
Blue Pig can help, since the only Ganon who was blue, was the one using the classic design; I think that Classic Ganon works fine too as a name (even though it makes me think of Classic Sonic because that's where the term "Classic" was used the most to define a different version of a character).

Anyway, I watched the boss battle and I didn't like it...
The player may have been a noob, but from what I have seen, the boss is only vulnerable at his tail, and in order to hit the tail, you must fly over him and attack him before he turns back and faces you again. It's very frustrating and it seems that there is no way to damage him when he's facing at you.
It seems that you can't even roll through him because he's too big. The Young Link player needed to use the recovery in order to fly over Ganon, and after you use the recovery, you free fall in an helpless status. That's not a good way to fight a boss, but there is a chance that it's the only way, at least for Young Link.
In order to make the boss less frustrating, they made it so that after some damage, he is stunned and you can attack him freely for a while before he starts fighting again (probably it's also a reference to the original boss from OoT, I can't remember, but in OoT it was in a 3D space and you could run around him).
