If you never watched the first FMA series this new season is based 100% off the manga.

Here is the plot summery from the first series.

After losing their mother, Alphonse and Edward Elric attempt to bring her back using the forbidden science of human alchemy. However, alchemy operates on the theory of equivalent trade, and breaking the human alchemy taboo carries a heavy price. Ed loses his leg, and Al loses his body. Ed is able to seal Al's soul inside of a huge suit of armor, at the cost of his arm. Years later, Ed (now with two mechanical limbs) and Al (still trapped in the armor) leave their childhood home, each brother concerned with the other's happiness. Ed, who has a natural talent and skill for alchemy, becomes nationally certified and is soon known everywhere as the "Fullmetal Alchemist." Their true objective is to search for any information on the fabled Philosopher's Stone, hoping it will allow them to regain their old bodies. All of their hopes rest with this mythical stone, which may not even exist at all. However, the brothers soon learn that they are not the only ones after the powerful stone.

Will edit the rest of this page with new episode link sorry about the delay.

I'm still sad that I didn't save the picture of voice actors.

Gundam 00-->FMA

It was just plain hilarious which character match up to their voice actor.

Subbed episode is out.
Attempting to download it right now.

I was hoping the art style would've changed a little to seperate it from the other FMA anime.
I guess Bones didn't want to.

EDIT: So I watched the episode. It was all right. There were a lot of hints of what's to come.
I'm surprised that the first episode was a "made for anime only" episode.

The next episode's a flash back. I was hoping to see some of Lior.

And I'm surprised that they change Roy's voice. I liked the other VA more.
Now I'll be thinking of Lockon Stratos...

well the first FMA was based on the manga until it caught up to it and then went a complete and totally different way(think it was like 1/2 through before they took different paths)

this time its going to based of the manga the whole time.

so u may see some stuff happen from last time happen again.

Very interesting first episode. Being used to the English voice work make the subs strange to me though.

I'm excited, having weekly FMA is going to be nice. ^_^

And Edward I cannot unhear Ed and Al's 00 voice actors D:
I've heard Ed's voice in a number of different anime and games so I'm not really bugged about it.
I usually remember her other roles like Ren, Hitsugaya, Temari, and of course, Naoto from Persona 4.

Its just that FMA puts the worst of enemies from 00 into the best of friends.

Seriously Regene Renegetta and Nena Trinity Brothers? Crazy.

I also remember reading somewhere that Scar has a different VA in this FMA series.
That's going to be weird hearing him.

Did they say how long this series is going to be? They're going to have to skip stuff, even if this series goes up to 50 episodes.

The new FMA chapter is out, but I won't do any of the discussion here since we'll try to keep this strictly about the anime for now.
But I thought I'd share this funny character poll:

http://www.onemanga.com/Full_Metal_Alchemist/94/01/
Envy has been owned... Not too surprising really. >_>
Every chapter makes the manga look like it's really close to ending. I can see it ending well in about a year and I believe there is no set episode list for FMA: B as well.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Fullmetal_Alchemist_episodes#Fullmetal_Alchemist:_Brotherhood

First five known episode titles.
Next episode should be dedicated to the Elric Brother's past, the preview shows that as well. Third episode should be on Lior.
Looking back in the manga, episode four and five have similar names to the chapters on Tucker. They should include the coal mine because Yoki is of minor importance later on as well.

Wait, didn't the first anime add a about two year gap between some episodes?

I can understand wanting to keep the manga out of the topic but...
It's only once a month, would there really be any harm with some discussion on new chapters? :(

I'm okay with it.
I just don't won't have others think we just hijacked this thread.

Oh, and Envy transforming into Roy was cool.
We all thought he'd transform into Riza.

Had me fooled.

EDIT: LOL Darkslash
Yeah, I keep hearing Lockon now.

If we can get a reasonable discussion on 50-ish pages a month and hijack the thread while a new anime episode will be out weekly then I'll truly be surprised.
Besides, we'll still be on topic as long as this is just a "Full Metal Alchemist Thread". >_>

Had me fooled as well, Arakawa has done a good job at avoiding predictable things like that though.

The episodes are shown on Sunday in Japan right?

I thought Envy had Roy there for a second when she transformed into Hughs.
And I wonder what they're going to do with Envy now that they stopped Roy from killing him.

It makes me sad that the story's almost over.

Yup, it airs every Sunday.

Roy was too pissed off to let that stop him. I was more so expecting Roy to accidentally attack Hawkeye, but only Bleach and Naruto would do that(you know, the bad manga). ^_^

FMA was the first manga I read, seeing it end is going to be a little sad. At least it will be ending before it overstays its welcome, I'll be happy with that.

Now the real question, are we going to get a mindscrew ending and if so then to what degree?

Yup, it airs every Sunday.
Thanks.

I'm guessing that Arakawa's going to give us a happy ending.
Just like Watsuki said for Rurouni Kenshin, "he (they for FMA) deserves it."

I expect a happy ending as well. Part of why I don't care much for the first anime, FMA feels to me that it should end on more of a happy note with the two brothers and Winry and that anime was a little too bittersweet at its end imo(and the movie was bad, the ok ending became a "you ruined it" ending.) I also did not care much for the
other side of the gate being our world thing.

But just because it is happy doesn't mean that there will not be some mindscrew, I expect a lot to happen with
Hohenheim, Father, the remaining homunculus, and the Truth
near the end.

Just watched the subbed episode.
They foreshadowed a lot, but I'm liking how the pace is going.

Even thought I read the manga, they're making it feel a little fresh.
Also, the animation quality is still amazing.
Looks like they're going to keep it that way throughout the whole series.

I'm tempted to buy the blu-ray discs when they come out.

I liked the episode as well. The pace is nice but we'll see how well that holds up near the end.

First half of the episode almost felt too familiar but that should not last too long.

I honestly did not know what to do with the Truth's voice, what was done works well. Though I should have expected it in the first place.

After watching the 2nd episode, how come are they replaying the old episodes with different viewpoints this time. is this some way of rebooting the series by doing this until the point it follows the manga
The new series is supposed to follow the manga closely. The first anime had the early parts of the manga but because this is a new series unrelated to the first it will go through some parts again for people who have not(and are not required to) seen the first series. There were also some small changes that are really important and need to be adressed in order to avoid plot holes.

For Brotherhood it is best to just forget that there was an anime before it, they are two completely different shows. :)

Agreed.
That was actually how I imagined his voice was when I read the manga.

I was kind of surprised to see him in episode 2 though...
