ITT people that hate FoD

l2p on it.

I don't think it's stacked enough to be a successful counterpick stage anyway. It's neutral.

You mean Marthfield and Starfox stadium?

None of the neutral stages are truely neutral. No stage is truly neutral anyway. These are just "the most neutral."
I was going to give a longer detailed explanation, but you already explained all of it in a nutshell. Thank you.

@ Thread- Indeed, no stage is truly "neutral". Certain characters will have an advantage/s over other characters depending on the surroundings and how their abilities correspond with the stage. These stages that are deemed neutral, however, are still the most "fair" stages to play on as opposed to any counterpick, and any advantages that characters have on these stages are not as intensified as they would be on a counterpick stage. For example, Jiggs' WoP on Brinstar or Falco's laser game/mobility on Jungle Japes are much more intensified on these stages due to the surroundings and hazards that make up the stages. Sure, Falco may have a slight advantage over most characters with his laser game and combo capabilities on FD/FoD, but these factors are still a lot more manageable than they would be on say...Jungle Japes, especially when it comes to approaching him to keep the laser pressure to a minimum. (Falcon anyone? lol)

falcon can obviously do nasty combos on fountain of dreams, he can do nasty combos everywhere. the difference is that situations occur pretty frequently on that level that severely limit his options. i know all the tricks and **** you can do, so dont tell me to just learn it, there are definitely times where you are limited in approaches

i think its definitely the least neutral out of the neutrals, not just for falcon reasons either. but this post isnt meant to tell people that think its neutral that theyre wrong, i just want people to stop saying "learn to play falcon right" cause thats not actually the issue

Brawl community already solved allll of this. Use stage strike! Go to the stage select and take turns removing them one at a time until you agree on a stage and ta-dah! Instant agreement.

What do you do if one player bans a neutral for the set? Then there are 4 stages in the stage strike, and it only works with an odd number.

EDIT: I reread the Brawl rules, and it turns out that you ban AFTER stage striking. Nevermind then.

That would be his first strike for the set, and would also be banned in the event that somebody wants to counterpick it.

I really like the idea of stage striking. Hopefully some Melee tournaments will start using it. Then people won't have to use their ban to safeguard the first game and can instead try to ban in order to limit the opponents ability to counterpick (like choosing whether to ban DL64 or Mute City against Peach, for example).

I don't necessarily think that stage striking is necessary in Melee, but if you are going that direction, better to add a 7th than take away the 6th. I still fully support random as perfectly fine, if not better.

FoD is absolutely qualified to be a starter, though. Proof: I lost to Isai's Falcon here, but it was close.

What's the point of having multiple neutrals if every match is always going to be on Smashville or Battlefield? Stage striking is dumb.

i mean kish, BF and FD probably have the fairest blast lines out of any neutral - nothing disproportionate like yoshis being too small or dreamland being too big. platforms are pretty much necessary as they add depth to the game, i mean really its the fake ledges that kill it

...because those stages tend to be considered the "fairest" by most players?

well by golly gee, we can't have people playing on stages they're comfortable on, can we?
