Yall should make a facebook group and organize through there. Tampa organizes everything through FB which is why we get such consistent results. Tournaments around FL are posted in notes/events are made/people request days for friendlies and where etc etc. Shiz is pretty efficient but you need someone dedicated to run it.

I agree with Benny (DFear) 100%.

My experience at ESAM's tournament was distasteful to say the least.

First, when I entered the venue, Zero Ping, it smelled like ***. By the time I entered the 10' x 10' TV area, I was basically laughed at for using my Classic Controller by several players (I never played Melee, didn't care for GC controller). It was impossible to play any casuals because everyone — including Benny — was hogging the 5 TVs, not allowing some of the people like myself standing aside to play.

It was not nearly worth the $15 I had to pay to just get no casual play and get 0-2'd immediately without any chance of warming up. Plus, Aside from Benny giving me vague advice, I received absolutely no attention from the top players viewing my matches. I was truly hoping for Seibrik to give me advice, as I remember him being a Dedede player a while ago (His advice: "Don't play Dedede"). Thing is, how can I improve without anyone bothering to give me advice or experience?

After I got 0-2'd, I had no other incentive to stay— so I left. I couldn't do casuals before the tournament because all of the "pros" were busy playing. I couldn't do casuals during the tournament because there were only 5 TVs with set-ups, and even less towards the end. I couldn't ask for help because everyone was too busy catering to themselves. It is not worth my time and effort to return to something like that ever again. Why would I waste my money to get kicked out first round without any insight as to why? I couldn't possibly have fun because no one would show me how to correct my mistakes or even talk to a "scrub" like me. I played 4 tournament games that whole time (2 losses in winner's and 2 losses in loser's), along with a few games that I played with Esam where he just used ICs and 0-death CG'd me to get out of playing.

I will not return to smash tournaments. Why bother?

That's what us "pros" do.
You cannot sit back and hope somebody wants to play with somebody they have never seen before.
Nobody is going to give you random advice. Play a couple of matches, and ****ing ask for some.
Just because you're new, doesn't mean we're going to cater to you. If you do not speak up, you WILL be ignored. That's how it works.
Also, nobody makes fun of people for not using a GC controller. It's just different, as most of us use a GC.


So, basically, you have to not be in the background, or you will be treated like the background.
