Wireless controllers (this includes the Wavebird) are almost always banned at tournaments for several reasons:

1. Interfering with other signals

2. Possibility of cheating

3. Chances of signal failing during a match

99% of all competitive Smash players only use the gamecube controller anyways.

It will take many many more controllers/Wiis there than we have to cause interference AND you cant cheat because it's obvious if you controller is connected (unlike waveirds where it's only a dial). Also, if a signal fails in a match, it's cause some sort of power was lost.

The sync or desync problems add time to a very long tournament. I can't count on people using common sense in taking out the batteries because some people don't have the common sense to do that. Also if you controller goes dead or pause a game during a match YOU LOSE the match! No one wants to lose because their batteries died! No replay of the match will be done because brawl takes so long to complete as a tournament. Also from my understanding of the cassic controller (I own one) it plugs into the wiimote, thus making it a wireless controller. You need the sensorbar to use the classic controller. You do have to point the wiimote at the screen like you are playing zelda, but it is giving off a wireless signal that can interupt games or stages selected just because someone forgot to take the batteries out of the wiimote. That's too much time and hassle in syncing and desyncing wiimotes that I want to deal with. That can add atleast 1-2 hours to the tourna.ent due to everyone not playing on the same wii everytime.

Man there's only 2 months 5 days left until FR12. Get hyped!!!

Its still a hassle to deal with during a tournament when you are trying to run everything as fast as possible. The risk of delaying the tournament or causing debate on who choose the stage will happen if 1 person forgets to take out their batteries. I choose to eliminate anything that could be a problem during tournament play. Also this is pretty much MAJOR tournament standards in controller rules.

There isn't a smash event on sunday. I might allow the team tournament on sunday, but that's only if the brawl singles are completed. I would have to rent that other room for 3 days now! I wasn't planning on having that room for 3days, but I will add another day for the smash community! Smashbrawl and melee teams will be held on sunday starting at 11am as long as the brawl singles have been completed. That's the best I can do for you guys.

Where are the people at that are planning to attend FR12? The pre-reg list is still pretty small. When are the smash players going to step up? We need this list so it will help speed up the pre-reg line at the event. It also helps us make a bracket the day before. We can just check off names as they come in and move someone if they didn't show up. COME ON PEOPLE!!!!! I thought you guys said the people would start to sign up around 2 months before the event? I feel you sir! Can you get the hype started in other melee general threads and brawls general thread in the southeast please. We are almost under 2 months of time before FR12.

The sync or desync problems add time to a very long tournament. I can't count on people using common sense in taking out the batteries because some people don't have the common sense to do that. Also if you controller goes dead or pause a game during a match YOU LOSE the match! No one wants to lose because their batteries died! No replay of the match will be done because brawl takes so long to complete as a tournament. Also from my understanding of the cassic controller (I own one) it plugs into the wiimote, thus making it a wireless controller. You need the sensorbar to use the classic controller. You do have to point the wiimote at the screen like you are playing zelda, but it is giving off a wireless signal that can interupt games or stages selected just because someone forgot to take the batteries out of the wiimote. That's too much time and hassle in syncing and desyncing wiimotes that I want to deal with. That can add atleast 1-2 hours to the tourna.ent due to everyone not playing on the same wii everytime.

Just make rules like the ones you have already listed. I go to monthlies and bi weeklies and never has this been a problem. Taking the batteries seems to be pretty common practice.

Also, your understanding is all wrong. You can control all pointer functions using the left analog stick. You DO NOT NEED A SENSOR BAR. And it plugs into a controller, would that by default make it a wired controller? Just saying.

Never has a tournament been extended because of wireless controllers. It is unheard of... at least when I tournament.

And someone said 99% blah blah, so that means people should not be allowed NOT to play to the best of their ability? You guys are just being elitist and lame. You can make rules to continue the smooth flow of things, you just refuse to because it is easier for you not to. Some tournament organizer.

I was going to go to this for TVC and Smash, but it is not worth it to support this attitude.

Just make rules like the ones you have already listed. I go to monthlies and bi weeklies and never has this been a problem. Taking the batteries seems to be pretty common practice.

Also, your understanding is all wrong. You can control all pointer functions using the left analog stick. You DO NOT NEED A SENSOR BAR. And it plugs into a controller, would that by default make it a wired controller? Just saying.

Never has a tournament been extended because of wireless controllers. It is unheard of... at least when I tournament.

And someone said 99% blah blah, so that means people should not be allowed NOT to play to the best of their ability? You guys are just being elitist and lame. You can make rules to continue the smooth flow of things, you just refuse to because it is easier for you not to. Some tournament organizer.

I was going to go to this for TVC and Smash, but it is not worth it to support this attitude.

1st of all I'm not being an elitist. This are standard rules for major tournament. You have to reduce the time the best you can with tournaments over 78 players deep. We had 78 last year and I think there will be atleast 120+ this year. Wireless controllers for ps3 and wii have been proven to be more of a hassle than help during a tournament. If everyone had the common sense to take the batteries out of the controller when they finish their match I wouldn't have to worry about it, but everyone doesn't have common sense. They usually don't think about or care about anyone but themself. On the ps3 all you have to do is hit the ps3 button and cut the controller off, but do people use common sense during tournaments? During my time running tournaments most people don't use common sense. Something as simple to you as taking out batteries may not cross another persons mind. Wireless controllers are a pain in the butt! I'm sorry you aren't coming because of the no wireless issue. They have cause a lot of drama at past Final Rounds tournaments so I ban them to keep the drama down.

With tvc there will be players with ps2-gamecube converters at the tournament that mostly play on ps2 JOYsticks or pads! I've had too many delays in past final rounds to allow wireless controllers. Brawl is already the longest tournament event being run at final round. I don't want to increase the time it takes to complete the event. People want to play team tournaments, but the single have to be complete before they start. The chances of the team tournaments happening goes down when the singles are delayed by wireless desync problems. I'm Sorry my rules effect you in attending fr12. It takes time to sync the controllers and its a problem when people don't use the common sense you have and just take the batteries out of the wiimote.

If more people think this time around will be different then I might change my mind, but i've been throwing tournaments for 15 years (atleast 3 years before starting Final Round), so I think I know what it takes to run a smooth tournament. I can learn new things and i'm open to listen, but you guys are assuming that others have the commen sense you have and we all know that isn't true for the majority of players out there. I could allow them and DQ people that forget to desync the wiimotes, but then I have to SIT THERE AND EXPLAIN WHY THEY ARE DQ'ED WHICH TAKES UP MORE TIME!!!!!!!!!!! I don't have the time to waste on the dumb people that don't know how to read or didn't read the rules or forget to take out batteries. I just eliminate the options for them to screw up.
