What is your favorite video game genre:
action
platformers
beat em ups
shoot em ups
adventure
sports
puzzle
racing
fighting
sim
rpg
music/rhythm
mmo
strategy
fps
hack n slash
3rd person shooter
survival horror / horror
etc.

I really enjoy adventure. Fighting isn't too bad and rpg is pretty awesome.

I think it is safe to say nearly everyone enjoys platformers.

Tough to pick just one.

My first preference goes to Adventure games. Second, RPG. Third, Action, although action seemingly encompasses quite a lot of games.

A close fourth are FPS games.

I've never been a big fan of fighting games, but I love the Smash series, I guess because they aren't "traditional" fighting games.

RPGs, far and away, but when it comes right down to it I'll play just about anything if it's fun. :D For further proof, I logged literally hundreds of hours into the PC versions of Dogz and Catz 3, and 4 simply breeding digital animals. Ahhh...Good times, good times.

As a top five list though, I'll say:

1. RPG
2. Platformer
3. Action/Adventure
4. Fighting
5. Everything else.

My top choice would be fighting games. My next choices would probably be FPS, platformer and action in no particular order.

I'd have to say Adventure/Platformer in first (Zelda, Mario, Mega Man), and fighting games in a very close second (Smash, Street Fighter).

1) RPG (MOTHER, Pokemon, etc.)
2) Strategy (Namely pikmin)
3) Platformer

There is a kind of tragic relationship between my top favorite and my parental hatred of RPGS..

RPGs, especially real-time systems (*cough* TALES *cough*). They make you feel fuzzy and warm on the inside, you know?

Not in any particular order:

Adventure (a couple of my favourites being Zelda)

Fighting (Obviously Smash, Street fighter and other kinds)

RPGS (My favourites being Baten Kaitos, though i'm the only fan of it and obviously Pokemon, and if Fire Emblem falls in this category, that too.)

I have one: RPG's are the way to go, I absolutely love them, I first feel in love with them when I first played LoD. (Legend of Dragoon)

other genres I like are Fighting (SFII) and Action/Adventure (Spyro lol) and who can forget Shooters. (MGS)

Never ordered my favorite genres before. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to do so. Anyways, it would probably be as follows:

1. Adventure-Platformers with RPG and Puzzle elements, or compressed - "Adventure"
2. Racing (F-Zero and Burnout surpass all else)
3. Fighting (SSB, Soul Calibur, and Guilty Gear mainly)
4. Survival/Horror (Fatal Frame)
5. Real-Time Strategy (Age of Empires/Mythology were so epic)

Platformers will always be my favorite games. 2-D, 3-D, even first-person platformers are god to me. I need to get a PS3 so badly. LittleBigPlanet is a platformer fan's wettest of dreams.

It's hard to pick honestly. It really depends on my mood. I like FPS's and strategy (turn-based preferably) the most, so that's a tie. Fighting games have recently been encroaching on my time spent on other genres though.

Also, sandbox type games like Gmod if you consider that a genre.

tales is for kids, play star ocean
No it isn´t!!!! *goes to cry in the corner*

Favorite genres would go like this:

1: rpg - most of my fondest gaming memories are from RPG´s

2: strategy - kinda reminds me of rpg´s, propably that´s why, although this depends a lot from the game

3: action/adventure/hack n slash - good combination of these is just extremely pleasant to play

4: platformers - reason why I started playing

5: fighting - many good memories, most of these just don´t live too long or need friends to be funny (I´m a very lonely guy, no friends to play with)

5: puzzle - awesome if done right
