1. All players must bring their own controllers. A limited number of rentals will be provided for a fee and a deposit.
2. All players must make their matches within the time frame, if players are not present they must forfeit the games.
3. All maps and gametypes are made by Playgrounds and are subject to change at any time, without notice.
4. If for any reason a game freezes, shuts down or any other particulars happen during gameplay, the game will restart and the match will be played over.
5. If you are caught glitching or using an exploit you may be penalized.
6. By registering for this tournament, players acknowledge that they have read, understand, and agree to abide by all of the rules.
7. The rules are subject to change at any time, so check them often. When a change is made, an asterisk (*) will be placed beside the updated rule.
You are expected to maintain certain etiquette when competing and respect the other players and Playgrounds staff. Failure to do so will be dealt with by the Referee, Tournament Manager or Tournament Organizer and such offences include but are not limited to excessive profanity, racism, unruly banter or quitting a tournament match. Punishment for such offences may include a verbal warning, forfeit of a match,
removal from the tournament with no refund or being banned from future Playgrounds events.
Drugs, alcohol, weapons and other illegal items are strictly prohibited. If you are caught with any of these you will be immediately removed from the tournament and escorted off the premises. You will not be given a refund and you will be banned from future Playgrounds events.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Tournament Style
• 1 V 1
• Single Elimination until top 8 which will be Double elimination
• 2/3 games per match
• 3/5 per winners, losers, and grand finals
• You can't switch characters after winning 1 game
• Random Stage
Game Settings
• Stage Striking MUST be used unless random has been mutually agreed on.
• Matches are 3 stocks with 7 minute time limit.
• All Sets will be best of 3. Winners/Losers Finals and Grand Finals being best of 5.
• First match you may call upon a 3rd party to have double blind picks.
• Loser of the next round then chooses the stage while the winner chooses their character followed by the loser choosing theirs.
• You cannot choose the same stage more than once in your set of 3. Unless the stage you had liked to pick was chosen on random.
• Pausing is only allowed if for a phone call or emergency, anything out of reason(breaking combo's, time to think or shield, etc) will forfit your stock.
In the event of a dispute, controller ports will be selected by Rock-Paper-Scissors
No player may choose a stage they have already won on in that set unless agreed upon by both players.
In team matches, the ports will be determined in a 1221 fashion; whoever wins the RPS will choose first, then the opposing team will get their ports, and then the teammate of the RPS winner will get the last port.
If the timer runs out, the victor is determined first by stock and then by percentage.
If a game ends with Bowser doing his suicide klaw and it ends in sudden death, the sudden death will be ignored and that game will count as a win for Bowser.
You are responsible for your own controller and name tag. Any malfunctions or errors that occur are your responsibility, so bring an extra controller if possible and always check to make sure you're using the correct settings BEFORE a match is played. If a match is to be restarted due to controller functions, it must be agreed upon by both parties.

Infinites/Excessive Stalling
Infinite and excessive stalling are both banned. You are considered to be stalling infinitely when you are using a technique that prevents the other player from reaching you indefinitely. Excessive stalling is when you use a technique to stall a match by remaining untouchable for a significant amount of time. Examples include using Fox's shine in great excess while recovering in an unreachable location, using Pit's up B to move back and forth underneath a stage, and more. This will result in a forfeit of your stock. End of Story.
D3 Walking and Standing Infinites are banned.

Characters who have the ability to swing from ledge to ledge underneath the stage (MK, Pit, ROB, Jiggz, etc) are not allowed to cross back and fourth from underneath the stage. You may cross over once, and you MUST touch the stage again before crossing underneath again. If you have crossed already, you are not allowed to go halfway underneath the stage and then come back.

IF SOMEONE IS DOING THIS TO YOU DURING A MATCH, PAUSE THE GAME AND CALL FOR TOURNAMENT STAFF
The staff will monitor the rest of the match or set. You will BOTH receive a warning. Yes, even if you were being infinited. This is in place to keep people from abusing the system. Tournament staff may disqualify someone from a match or the entire tournament if you are caught doing a "standing infinite" or if this is abused. I know it won't be an issue, we've got a great scene with no jerks, but I just want to cover my bases. I will personally see to and heated disputes.

WE ARE USING THE STAGE STRIKE SYSTEM
How Stage Striking works: Each player takes turns striking out the neutrals for stages they do not wish to play on. They take turns doing this until one stage is left, that is the stage which will be played on for round 1. For example, player 1 strikes out lylat, player 2 strikes yoshis, player 1 stirkes battlefield, player 2 strikes smashville, then the game will be played on final destination as it is the last stage available. The Winner of the first round will then ban a stage out of the legal stages listed below and the loser will then pick a stage out of the stage list. If it goes to round 3 then the winner of the 2nd round will ban a stage and the loser will then counter pick a stage.

Stage List
Neutrals:
Battlefield
Lylat Cruise
Final Destination
Yoshi's Island
Smashville
Counterpicks:
Delfino Plaza
Rainbow Cruise
Castle Siege
Frigate Orpheon
Halberd
Brinstar
Pokemon Stadium 1
Jungle Japes

Choosing Sides
When both players are at the game console, they must come to an agreement which side of the machine they will play on (who will sit on 1p and who will sit on2p)
If an agreement cannot be reached, a game of paper-scissors-rock will determine who gets to pick their side.

Choosing Characters
There are 3 methods for choosing characters. Standard Selection, Double Blind Selection, and Side and Character Courtesy. If the players do not discuss the method of character selection, it should be understood that the Standard method is being used. If the players cannot come to an agreement on the method of character selection, the judge will apply the double blind method.

Standard Selection
Both players choose their characters whenever they want. This is a free for all. Players pick who they want and go. Once either player chooses a character, neither is allowed to request that the Double Blind Selection method be used.

Double Blind Selection
Either player must explicitly ask for the Double Blind Selection method before either player chooses a character. When a player request Double Blind, the player on the left side (1p) decides which characters and modes they will choose and whispers his selection to the Judge.

The Judge then signals the player on the right (2p) to pick his characters and play modes.
Once the player on the right (2p) has finished, the Judge makes sure the player on the left (1p) sticks to his original choices.
Side and Character Courtesy

As a courtesy, the player who received his choice of which side to play on (1p vs. 2p) can elect to choose his character first. This is strictly a courtesy. A player is in no way required to do so.

Playing the Match
Once sides and characters have been chosen, the players should begin the first Game in the Match.
The following rules go into effect once a Game ends. The Match is over when either player wins the required number of games (Two out of three games for most tournaments)
Once a player has won the required number of games, the winner of the Match should report the result to the Judge. If there are still Games to be played, the player who lost the Game has the option of switching sides (1p vs. 2p) for the next Game. The player who won the game does not have the option of switching sides. He must stay on the same side if the loser does not want to switch. The player who won the last Game is required to keep the same characters, game modes, and order of characters for the next Game. The player who lost the last Game is allowed to choose whatever characters, game modes, or character order he desires.

A lot of us Canadians are going to Apex and I doubt very many of us can afford to turn around and go to MLG right away as well, so it being on the same day as MLG only means I won't get to watch the stream, but yeah ANTi be trippin if he's going to this over MLG lol.

I should go to this for MW2, but the rules seem a bit...vague(bad). With Radar always on, and no weapon attachment restrictions, this seems like a really bad idea, since a person looking for an easy win (me) could easily make that entire event really, really gay with One Man Army and Grenade Launchers.

Honestly though, who cares? It's MW2 lol. Not like there's anything serious about it.

Slight update to the CoD rules, basically attachments allowed but no one man army so you can't completely noobtube it. Also, radar will now be off. If m2k came and stole all the HBC points it wouldn't be fair because he couldn't even spend them haha.

20 bucks to enter a tournament plus the venue fee? I mean, I'll be attending Fan Expo regardless as I do every year so the venue fee isn't a big deal but 20 dollars to enter the tourney is a little steep.

Maybe I've been away too long.

sorry let me clarify the 30 dollar venue fee isn't the actual venue fee to enter the tournament. It is just the cost of buying a ticket to enter into fan expo.

Slowly dying in the void
I'll probably be in Ontario Saturday and will need housing, I plan on going back directly to Montreal after the tournament so I only really need a place to stay Saturday. I would leave Sunday morning by bus but sadly the earliest bus gets there at 2pm :(
Can anyone house me for 1 day? PM me if someone can do something or just respond here. Thanks.

hey guys winners of free passes (hype, doc, raidos, nick, danny) need to talk to me to get info on how to get things to work. Also, I think playgrounds was telling me they need setups since Zellers didn't provide them this year for some reason. They said if you bring setups then you guys can sign a contract with them to lend it out and if anything is stolen or damaged then they will replace it for you. It won't be like LBT where they boned fool.

naw the tvs used have to be the LCDS they used because its a zellers sponsored event and they want things to be uniform. I'll talk to them again to make sure.

Makes sense, regardless if they need it or not. I'll bring my Wii just incase.

Dimmy, is it for sure single elim until top eight? Because that's a hefty ****ing entrance fee (55$ basically) to risk being paired up with doc, hype, holy, and other big names right off the bat due to bad seeding or low attendance.

i will get someone from the scene to make brackets since i personally won't be there. Just make it so that all the people from our scene are away from each other and make it to the top 8. Most likely I'll get hype to do it. People who are bringing Wiis please PM me your real names so I can get contracts for you guys so if your stuff gets damaged or stolen you can get reimbursed.

We definately need wiis for this though or else the tournament is going to be very slow. So far the seeding will most likely look like doc hype joe holy iliad wolfblade avarice and whoever else.
