If possible, we would like to stay in the same hous, but splitting up is fine. I know 8 people is a crap load, so if it's out of the question, we'll just rent some hotel room. Peace!

While on the subject, Dyse! Can I get a spot in your car if I can make it? I dunno about me having a car anytime soon, but not a day goes by without me bugging my parents.

so i guess people havent seen this yet....? if so, then i apologize for reposting, but i was looking for rules for smash at evo and found this.........i guess there will only be doubles? not sure exactly.

Super Smash Brothers Melee

* Game version: Nintendo Gamecube
* Game Settings: 2 on 2 Teams, VS Melee, 2/3 Games, 4 Stock, 6 Minute Timer
* The stage for game 1 will be selected at random unless both teams can agree on a stage.
* Random select stages: Final Destination, Battlefield, Yoshi's Story, Rainbow Cruise, Dreamland 64, Pokemon Stadium, DK64
* Banned stages: Fountain of Dreams, Mute City, Yoshi's Island (Pipes), Fourside, Hyrule Temple, Flatzone, Brinstar Depths, Icicle Mountain, Big Blue, Mushroom Kingdom 1, Venom, Yoshi's Island 64, and Kongo Jungle.
* No stage may be used twice in a versus battle.
* After the stage has been selected, the winner of the previous game may change characters, but has to pick first.
* Glitches used to stop your opponent from controlling their character or indefinitely freezing them (Mewtwo's Soul Stunner, the Ice Climber freeze glitch), or any glitch or trick that freezes the game or makes it unable to be finished are banned and will result in the immediate forfeit of the entire match.
* Tactics such as Peach's Wallbombing and Jiggly's Rising Pound are allowed as methods of recovery or to maneuver around the stage. Using them (or any similar tactics) to excessively stall a match, such as dropping below levels intentionally and stalling underneath, is banned. If by using one of these tactics, you have put your character in a place to lose a stock by ending the tactic, a judge may force you to stop and lose a life and continue the match short a stock.

Indeed we are. And beyond even that, last year I tried staying in my dorm for a couple of extra nights, so I could go to WtyM2, the last tournament held here in Austin. My hometown is 5 hours away, so there was no chance of commuting. Turns out, on Friday night, after classes are finished, they expect the dorms to be empty, although they allow residents to stay, should they so choose. Except they turn of the dorm's AC. So it was around 90 in here for those two nights.

That being said, it looks as though I'll be braving the harsh conditions again for this one. Archaebacteria live in thermal vents in far worse conditions, and I'm human, with teeth and blue shirts, so I should survive.

That is, unless this is a teams-only tournament, which is suggested by the stages (Mute City banned, but Rainbow Cruise on random), in which case, I won't both going to this tournament, most likely. If I stay, I may possibly offer housing for a couple of people in my dorm, but you'll suffer the same risks as me, and as a result, I'll be forced to require you Smash-types to break with tradition and shower before a tournament, here in the public showers.

I make no promises, of course.

I COULD house 1 or 2 people but I'm usually hesitant to do that to people I really don't know. Only person I really know out of Austin is Mr. C and I haven't even played him in Melee yet.

Lol at 6 minute timer. My matches usually last longer than that unless it's Yoshi's Story where I lose in less than 2 minutes.

If it's a teams only tournament why would they put up a 1v1 match on their website? I'd get owned since im a bad teammate.

From what I can tell over in the actual EVO topic (the one in tourney discussion).

It was gonna be teams.

Everyone freaked out cause singles is more important that teams pretty much.

It's now being changed to singles, as there doesn't seem to be time for EVO to do both, but the players can have a teams tourney of their own in the BYOC (aka friendlies) room.

Or something to that effect. So I doubt it's teams-only at this point (they even took "2v2 teams" out of the description last time I checked, now they just have to fix the stages (but keep Mute banned )

Well, that's all good to know. Or, I hope it will be. When it's decided. In the meantime, I found this thread: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=126801 and it may be useful to post there to really get the point across regarding the greater push for 1v1s.

I also sent an e-mail to the EVO guys to ask about this issue prior to coming back here to post that link to that thread (I need more pronouns), so maybe I'll get a more definitive word. I also recommended extending the time limit, because I know that reqy guy, and he's right: his matches are long (Spamus, anyone?). If I get a response, I'll post it here.

Yo smash is finally at EVO. Its so good that this game is being looked at as a legit fighter amungst 3rd strike, Guilty Gear and Tekken. Cause this game go no play from them for years.

I really like this idea. Only problem is fitting 25 people in two standard rooms. Chances are, we'd have to rent out a really large hotel room, like a suite or something. If anyone is up for this idea, let me know and I'll start the research.
