Anyways... this topic is for EVO, if you want to complain about the community/gameplay between games, take it to AIM.
What game is better is generally up to the person, and all the communities are more or less the same attitude wise.

That would be so...but i wish to enter the GG/ tourney also >.<

So, why should I go to this tournament, again? I think maybe I won't. I can play good players anytime I want, without having to go to the trouble of staying here and extra few days (the Smash tournament being on the second day is also troublesome).
It's nice that EVO is trying to support Smash, but at some point, they'll simply have too many games. For single elimination, if you're planning to travel long-distance, I wouldn't waste your money, even if the entry is free. There's something to be said for playing the good players while you're there, but that's what everyone else will be thinking, too, including the good players.
So, why should I go to this tournament, again? I think maybe I won't. I can play good players anytime I want, without having to go to the trouble of staying here and extra few days (the Smash tournament being on the second day is also troublesome).

Wow...everyone is losing their fighting spirit already The tourny is free, so it's not too much of a waste.
Also, this is Evo's FIRST year of holding Smash =/ Take that into consideration. All you guys were happy that Evo accepted Smash so show your support and GO! Otherwise their commitee will most likely say "Well, we got a Smash tourny up but hardly anyone participated. Oh well, lets remove it then." and you'll be left with nothing too bad.
....so go >_> I may be a nub, but I'll most likely still enter for the hell of it. GGX2/ and Smash most likely. Maybe 3S and T5 DR if I feel up for it

Wait, someone explain to me where single elimination came up. When you register, you can read the following paragraph
Double elimination for all games except GGXX Slash, which is 3v3 teams. So, where is this whole "single elimination" part coming from?

I don't think anyone at EVO has any question as to whether the Smash community will make it worth their time with participation. There's already been enough support shown just through message boards to make that obvious. The only question is whether EVO makes it worth our time and effort and money to attend their tournaments. If the tournaments continue like this, the answer for me is obviously no, so I won't be attending.
It's really that simple. If they don't make it worthwhile for us, someone else will, because there's too much money to be made. And as consumers, we have to use our power (money, participation, support) to get what we want. The consumers have the real power, not the corporations, if only the consumers choose to exercise it. So if you don't like how the tournament is being operated, make your voices heard, and if nothing changes, don't pay them to give you anything less than what you're paying for.
I'm happy that EVO stepped up so quickly to support the Smash community after MLG dropped us (practically speaking), but that doesn't mean I'm particularly desperate. Individual amateurs can also run large tournaments without them, such as the FCs.

Well, after reading some about EVO, I have a feeling that only South will have the constraints it has, so other EVO events should be more to our liking if anyone is thinking of travelling. Also keep in mind that the EVO World Finals in Vegas is an open event so just because you didn't get one of those 4 seeds doesn't mean you can't go and still enter. I plan on doing just that.
Another thing that people need to realize is that EVO hadn't even had an event planned for the South at the beginning of the year. They recently added it so I believe that may be part of why they weren't able to plan it as well as their other events. However, I think we should be grateful that they decided to give us an opportunity at all. Not only is there an EVO South, but it's in our homestate of Texas, and for some of us even in our home town.

You are earning EVO money through sponsors and I assume you'll be buying drinks and things while you're there. They won't lose money; that would be stupid, and completely unnecessary. People would've gone even if the entry fee was $20.
I don't actually live in Austin, I'm just a student here. In fact, for me to stay during spring break for the tournament causing scheduling issues with getting back home afterward, but I was willing to work that out.
I understand that the South tournament is a last-minute deal, and that other tournaments may not have the same problems, but that doesn't change the fact that this one will be, within my view, a waste of time. Maybe others will disagree, and that's fine, as it's your right as a consumer. All I'm suggesting is, if you think the tournament isn't worth it for you, don't go. That's how capitalism works, after all: you either buy a product/service or you don't, depending on your estimation of the cost vs. the reward.
And even if I knew EVO was losing money, for certain, with this tournament, I still wouldn't go, for two reasons:
1) I'm not an altruist.
2) If they're losing money because our going doesn't give them any money, then it doesn't make any difference to them whether I go.
