If it makes you feel any better shiro not all smashers are blunt and dislike all other fighting games.

lol yeah, I really find it annoying when some smashers just limit themselves to Smash. it's just sad. almost as sad as when a smasher actually plays another fighter and doesn't know how to block...but I find that hilarious at times.

yeah, I used to be one of the people that would play ONLY smash until I saw the light. Now I'm playing GG, CvS2, 3S, and others.

Yea, I imagine that would be the case too Mr C. I tried to get into GG but even tho I think it's an awesome game and takes more skill than any other besides smash, it's not smash. :ohwell:

no one's stopping you =/

i'd prolly played smash more if it weren't for some of the players. some smashers can be jerks and just take the fun outta the game. Making themselves sound like some kinda god at the ONLY game theyr'e good at :(

no other game gets my attention

i could learn how to play any fighting game and prolly **** at it, but sooner or later id get bored

with smash i get bored sometimes yes but you can never never evererever turn down a smashfest when other good people are wanting to play/going to a tourney to play.

Edit: to be completely honest the reason most people do not get highly involved with the smash community is because its to hard to

if your not already good at the game and do not have a good 2-3 year tourney expierence theres really no way your going to be top level at the game, not many people have the patience to be ***** over and over by a pro just to get in good practice

I remember when i first came into the tourney scence which was 1 1/2 - 2 years ago
i told myself i was going to be one of the best in this state, i practiced, i lost i took the time to actually become good at this game which most people do not.

Then there are those of us who have been playing forever and think we're at best above average, and we realize what skill at other games looks like.

I still agree 100% with what Mr C has said in his past two posts, tho.

Smash gets boring for me. Watching people play...yeah you guys do some crazy $h!t but it's nothing really new. It's like "oh wow it's Fox....and he's doing Fox stuff" =/

I'm still learning GG and i've only been playing for about a year. I'm always learning and finding out new things that can be done. Even players who I know have been playing longer and are much better than me are still realizing new tricks. Also it helps when the developers actually make UPDATES to the game :D

I'll still play Smash (considering there's people that can actually have fun playing and not be jerks about it) and I do respect it as a game (to an extent since like I said previously, some of the community members annoy me); however, the gameplay really doesn't attract me enough to take the game to serious competitive level.

its hard to take it to a serious competitive level thats why.

i learn something new everytime i play someone good.

its not all about game play its the mindgames and the lil things you pull off that make a match worth it.

most of the matchs i play im in control almost the whole match, not because im fast or technical but because i know what peoples reactions are towards certain things

a small example would be me upthrow with marth
most people think you will uptilt, therefor they waste their jump
if u wait for them to waste their jump they are ****ed

theres so many things like that in smash which is why i enjoy playing it

im not saying gg, cvs2, soul calibur sf etcetc are bad games because they arnt
everyone has their own taste

but when you play smash and realize how indepth it is and you play other games its just not the same.

Mmm, I think that I am the opposite of you Mr.C - the more that I play smash, the more similiar each fighitng games seems to me. I've started seeing more and more underlying strategy/mindgames which can be applied to every game.

Dash dancing - Moving in and out of an opponent's perceived range to bait a responce.

SHL camping - classic fireball/shoryuken trap. I've gotten 10x better at Dhalsim in SF from applying Falco's camping tactics.

Shield Grabbing - avoiding an anticipated attack then punishing them in their lag.

Mixing up patterns - Stop attacking, and just straight walk up and grab/throw someone. Works in every game.

I've also started tieing smash to my RTS skills(where I am originaly from) too, but I'm not going to get into that.

there's stuff like that in other games. I've said before that I respect Smash. If I ever seriously diss it and say crap like "there's no mindgames or mixup" well I say that to piss off people because it's funny (I'm looking at you DV8! lol) However, my main problem are some of the players who limit themselves and don't even bother to play other games.

Unfortunately, every community has their jerks.

The fighting community is slowly dying. Smash really doesn't have to worry much because kids in the future will pick it up. It's colorful so it attracts them. They'll play...learn new things...the scene goes on.

Who will pick up 3S? or any other games for that matter? The fact that Evo is accepting Smash is most likely a good choice. Not only because is Smash actually being recognized by this huge event, but also because the players can be exposed to the other games and what the gameplay is like at that level.

...i'm not too excited about MvC2 since that game is broken as f**k

Not wanting to play a game because some individuals are "jerks" is a horrible reason to not play the game lol.

You'll find "jerks" in every competitive sport in existence.

Edit:

However, my main problem are some of the players who limit themselves and don't even bother to play other games.
I have no clue why this would bother anybody. Why should you have a problem if somebody only plays smash and doesn't play other fighting games?

Yeah because the developers make updates because they care about the players and the competitive scene not because they wanna make money.

I have been playing this game forever, and just last week i learned something from KDj and something from ISAI.

What is wrong with you :( :( everyone should play everygame ever created, why are you not winning Ye-are-kungfu tournaments across california. :embarrass :embarrass

dcx: I'll still play the game. Not competitively, however these "jerks" take the fun out of it. I haven't had fun playing this game in a long *** time around here in SA. When I did play with JF and ARC I actually had fun playing the game and wanted to play more...until I returned playing the usuals here at SAC.

Tsetse: that's another reason as to why the fighting scene is dying. Capcom has been neglecting their fighting community. Which is why there's no SF4 or CvS3 or anything. When Sammy makes updates to GG, they actually work out some of the glitches and tweak the characters around. Such as how Eddie is no longer S tier like he was in #r. Also, Sony does not license Guilty Gear for American releases (except for the crappy ones such as Dust Strikers and Judgement). :(

Somewhere in here someone mentioned tying smash skills to other games SO.....

Once I played this Flash game on ebaumsworld where you avoid the falling stalactites and they make the ground increasingly slippery to make it harder, so I just dash-danced to get perfect maneuverability. THANKS SMASH BROS!

In conclusion, I have no clue what all these acronyms Shiro keeps saying are. Please don't hate me for limiting myself to one video game.

No one hates you, we just think you should become familiar with other games, even if you decide not to play them. Ever since I met Terrel (Titan44) I was introduced to many other competitive fighters such as GG, 3S, and CvS2 (as well as a few tohers that we kinda made fun of.) I suck at all of them mainly because I just haven't been able to get into them due to being into smash so much, but I have seen a ton of vids, read things on forums, and talked with people who play those games, so I learned quite a bit about them. (for someone who doesn't play them at least.)

Mr.C, I hope Naruto isn't gay on the Wii as well. Cuz it is on the GCN <_<

It is true that you can use techniques used in one game and incorporate them into others. Mainly basics such as tick throws, frame traps, baits, hit confirm, etc.

Edit:
JF, as least GNT4 does have the mind games to make up for the limited gameplay.

I'm starting to really get into Guilty Gear (X2 and Slash).

But really, Smash is just so much more fluid than all those games. I can't play with the same personality that I play Smash (the sucky kind that gets me 4-stocked and takes my entry fee).

Lol at Bluezaft. I should host a Settlers of Catan tournament...

I have no idea which thread I am currently posting on...

Shiro needs to stop playing noobs at SAK and Noel. Honestly, I think i'm the only person that can play with him for hours on end and not get pissed off.

And you can't blame people for not being into other fighting games. Its hard to be competitive at more than one thing, ever.

Maybe you just need to wait for brawl? I mean this game has been out for over five years.

the main thing preventing me from really getting into other fighters is that they're just not as accessible to me. Smash is fairly easy for me to play if I want to.. but I can't play most other fighters because nobody I know has/plays it. While Soul Calibur 2/3 were available, I got good enough at them that most of my opponents didn't want to play against me anymore.

Really? I might dust off SC3 and play you if you're up for it. I played it semi-seriously for a month or two but then got bored. Also, many people told me it was worse than SC2, which I hadn't really played, anyway

this tournament was only my second time actually playing 3s against humans.. other than that i've only played on a laggy dreamcast emulator on my PC :p

they nerfed my beautiful Xianghua in 3!
pfft, they took my favorite character and split him into two! I ended up preferring siegfried... but i often wanted some of nightmare's moves that they took away

been a long time since i really played SC though. I played some SC2 with caveman at this last tourney, but I didn't remember a bunch of my moves..

Nightmare.....how could I ever have guessed v,v; he used to be my secondary in SC2 before I got into Raph. I loved playing Xianghua because her moves just seemed to flow with each other. So combos were pretty easy. I also find Xianghua and Raph to be characters that have pretty good and easy mix ups. Especially Raph since I would spam his 6BBB string and then try to mix up from there. But I'm a scrub when it comes to SC lol

When it comes to playing 3S against people....you were probably the third I've played against lol. I only started learning 2 fridays ago and I got the most practice on the tourny day =/ So I've only played against Felix and Shin before I played you. And then there was this other kid who I beat a lot....he said to me "wow how long have you been playing this?" so I was like "uhh...a week?" o_O

I've come to realize that a big reason that people don't like Smash or quit Smash is because they "suck" at it, can't get better, or they choose not to get better do to whatever reason. So they try to compensate their lack of skill in Smash bros. by playing games that are easier to play/be good at/master, etc. Take Naruto for example. Naruto is so easy to master, it's not even funny. Gamers only say THEIR fighting game is better than Smash is because they just so happen to be good at the game. They didn't have to try as hard to accomplish it either. I hate attitudes like, "I can't get better, I quit.... OOOOH!!! I know! I'll play Slash!!!" etc.

if you looked back you would notice that most of the Austin community is college students and they live in dorms so there is very few housing(or possibly none) available. Perhaps now would be the time to start workin on a back up plan :p.

and for other fighters, pffft all one needs are forgotten classics like Primal Rage, Killer Instinct, and of course Shaq Fu

Sup?This is RoK, from Dallas Texas. I need a ride down to Host2 and Evo, or just one of the tournaments if anyone has an avaliable ride that is close to dallas. (Or if you're not close, just tell me anyway, might be able to get there), So I can go to houston. If you have a a spot open, I'll pitch in for gas or whatever, also need housing and what not. If ANYONE. Can help me out, please do so, I really awnt to go to these tournaments.

Edit: Also, if I can get to go, I wanna money match TGM/Sethlon/ and that Hylian thing if they'll accept.

The same goes for Smash players dude. Everyone says that their main game is better than all other games. CvS2 players say that CvS2 is the best. Tekken players say Tekken is the best. It goes all around.

Learning the gameplay system is easy in Naruto. Safest way to win is to use B&B strings and leave the rest to mindgames. Pretty much the better player is the one with the best mindgames in a match.

Dyse, I'm going to be honest with you. I really have no problems with you as a person....but when it comes to playing games...you get pretty annoying :( You have this really huge @$$ ego and you completely take the fun out of the game. When you were bragging about how you got three 4-stocks in a row, that was annoying. So when you claimed that I was going to be your fourth, my main goal was just to kill you once :( after that I didn't care any more. And that was definately not fun. And when I felt that I actually had a good match with you, what did you do? You just sat there all quiet. What was wrong? Were you surprised that I could keep up with your Doc? Was that why you didn't shake hands and say "Good game?" I even said "WTF? why you being a jerk? what, no handshake?"
