Well now that we have this little social room, I think it'd be a good idea(though I maybe wrong) if the "Beast Coast" came together and just discussed our opinions on subjects.

The Metaknight ban is a big issue pertaining directly to our area more than other parts of the country. Alot of us (some unvoiced) are unhappy with the way the Ban discussion is going. Seeing as how we have "The New Jersey Devil", along with probably the world's best two Metaknights: M2K and Spam in our midst. Our region would be most knowledgeable, as well as the most effected on which way the ban goes.

Discuss, and I do mean DISCUSS (Not flame, or start to Argue as we tend to do most.) the still tender subject.

This is not trying to get MK banned. This is more or less, to let ohers know, how you feel about the subject.

Meta Knight is ridiculously far ahead in the metagame right now and much easier to pick up and learn due to his popularity, easy learning curve, and the fact that the best player in the world applies all of his brains and talent to him. Ally just emerged as a possible rival to Mew2King with his Snake and ADHD's Diddy Kong has been doing well against him. Falco recently took a big hit due to chillindude829 basically quitting and Sethlon getting worse relative to his region, or else I believe he'd be way up there too. Wario took a big hit when Futile quit. Some potentially top-tier characters, like Game and Watch and Falco, don't have a wtfamazing player maining them right now in order to show how good they can be. Other characters need to progress further before MK's tournament dominance shrinks.

Out of all the characters I consider top tier or capable of winning huge national events:

Meta Knight
Snake
Dedede
Falco
Wario
Game and Watch
Olimar
Diddy Kong

I don't think Meta Knight is the worst match-up for any of them at all.

Only one character would benefit to the point where they can win a big tournament if MK was banned, and it's Marth.

meta knight is the worst matchup for olimar
I've yet to hear this from any of the good MKs or BlackWaltz, so I don't really believe you. You also only lose to the best ones in the world and you still beat Forte, so I don't know why you'd say this.

I don't know why, but I can't stop laughing at this.

It'his matches vs Spam(which I've watched and thought about) which prompt him to say this, and which also prompt me to agree with him. The fact is that m2k, and forte as well rush in and attack. Which was, and still is the reason that Olimar does so well in the matchup. It's easier to fight a rushing MK, than a Spam MK.

To sum up what it is.
Spam(or smart MK) gets ahead in damage.
They then proceed to go to the opposite side of the stage.
They fair, and fair, and fair, creating somewhat of a wall. This wall kills all approaching Over B'd pikmin, and Olimar can't approach without trading damage with the MK. It also doesn't even have to be trading damage. If the Olimar goes in he will take damage regardless, and then see if he can deal some damage after he takes it.
While the Olimar is trying to deal damage, the MK fairs, and goes to the other side of the stage, and repeats the process. It's sort of sickening.

BlackWaltz beat teh_spamerer and Plank, arguably the two campiest MKs. He struggles against the aggressive ones like me and dmbrandon.

Our two great Olimar mains are obviously missing something...

of course no MK player would ever say that

and it's because peach has gotten a lot easier recently for everyone, to the point of almost even; luigi was NEVER hard and I don' t know where that idea came from. It's either MK or Marth and I'm definitely willing to say MK over Marth because Marth has to approach more and he can't just sit back and literally wall you off with fairs that make him invincible, and because he's not as versatile in gimping. Also he is easier to KO because he's not as good at protecting himself coming down from the air. marth is just easier than MK.

MK will never be banned. Arguing for his ban won't work because most of the good players are pro-MK, and either they play MK (which has a part in some of them even being good players in some cases...) or they don't want to get embarrassed by saying he should be banned in a community where saying he should be banned is the scrub thing to do

basically arguing for no MK is like arguing for women's voting rights, which luckily eventually happened but it took hella long for the people with the power to realize that they were being irrational

The most I can suggest is that we try holding a tournament where MK is banned as a separate tourney. Like a MK ban tourney. Other than that idk.

I really can't say much on the MK thing atm cause I haven't really played him much in tournaments surprisingly. Yes at COT4 I didn't have to fight any MKs. I thought it was impossible. Instead I got 3 Kirbys, 2 DDD's, and a Marth.

I'd hate that because Snake becomes worse/more boring. Dedede is definitely his hardest match-up and fighting him, Falco, Wario, Olimar, and just about any other good character is less fun than fighting MK.

I don't mind which way it goes. I realize though that snake has the advantage against metaknight if he's at higher damage. At lower percentages metaknight can rack damage and gimp easily. So even if you think snake has the advantage it's only to a certain degree.

Regardless though i think metaknight is beatable but if he is banned, it's one less thing to worry about.

It's obvious that you're anti-MK, Dotcom. I would be more inclined to debate if this thread was started from a true neutral standpoint, but it's not hard to see what you're trying to do here.

Do: we ban MK, and see if the community flourishes with new oppourtunities.
Obviously the community will flourish with new opportunities. This is a given. Taking out the best character in any game will open up new opportunities for other characters.

Or do we keep MK around and see if the character can bind our community together, and possibly make us stronger.
Implying that our community is separated and weak because of the existence of MK.

Like Rocann said, MK will never be banned. He is definitely the best character, but falls short of being a broken character.

Never siad I was neutral on the subject, I guess it would be my job to be. But I can't be untrue to myself. Though I am open, to looking at both sides of the debate. If someone can give me justified and logical reasons, I have no choice but to accept, and will gladly accept, that Metaknight is here to stay.

he part about our communtiy growing together because of MK though, hat wa sosmehting I picked up from another thread. They said MK can make our communtiy develop together, which I think OBM said(forgive me if i'm wrong) and I thought this would be somemthing that would go well into this thread.

*shrugs* I'm a real person.

People who whine about the character should just use him and see how far they go. I mean sure their are stupidly easy match ups with mk especially if u go on a silly counterpick. But if you play anyone that has DECENT mk practice ull get wrecked. This is especially prominent with snakes who pull nades out every second you try to attack him and just know how to space better.

MK is probably the equivalent of sheik from melee, but to a slightly higher extent. All really good match ups below him and a lot of even match ups or slightly in his favor. The only tihng i feel should be banned is tornado in teams LOL its dumb when two mks tornado what do u DOOO??

This thread should not exist. How many times do we need to debate this over and over and over again?

When it's all said and done, everyone is just going to have to agree to disagree. No one's opinion should be held in higher regard than the other. I, of course, main MK... I would hate to see my main character get banned. I guess no one is doubting he's the best character in the game, because he is (Snake comes in at a very close 2nd).

The issue, it seems, comes from people that think he is "broken". I don't think he's broken, he's definately beatable. Hell, if there are so many MK mains out there then it should be easy for most to play against them because they would probably have a lot of practice in that match-up. And since he's not broken, then there's no point in banning him JUST for the simple back that he's the best character. Every fighting game has a character that's considered the best. So you ban MK, and then people are going to say that Snake is broken. You ban Snake and then people will say the next character is broken.

Get what I mean? Anyone?

You're gonna have to ask Candy about that one. He's the one that's heard about it. I tried to look it up myself and couldn't find anything.

I know he said he had a friend that works at Gamestop and that his friend said that Gamestop was scheduled to get this "Brawl update" next year. I'll believe it when I see it.

while I don't think that meta knight is a "broken" character as in unbeatable

he's the best to such a clear level that you might as well just play him, and people DO, and it overcentralizes the metagame, there are actually threads of "anti-MK tier list"

which is why I would LIKE to see him banned, so I wouldn't have to fight 10 of them at every big tournament, but hey

not gonna happen

im personally gonna try out banning mk around philly. not sayin like OMG HE NEEDS TO BE BANNED IM BANNING HIM NOW! but like
md/va got their share of some mk-ban tourneys, and the idea is interesting at the least.

while i dont think as a character he's "bannable" per say, but heres how i see it.

at the highest level of play: mk is not ban worthy.

however at high->mid/low level play hes a wrecking ball. at the absolute top of tourneys were seeing some various characters like how inui mentioned - characters he could see winning big tourneys. weve seen diddys, snake, wario, and more aruond the top of tourneys. however, these are only the top players of these characters, clearly some of the best players out there.

at below the highest level of play (like maybe everything below top 5 at a regional tourney, or top 16-32 at a national) MK is broken imo. the effort needed to put into him versus any other character is ridiculous. players have to work so hard as any other character to beat MKs (or other characters since everyone BUT mk is plagued with some bad matchups somewhere).

MK has no bad matchups, even at worse. some may argue that snake could lightly beat him, but this is more at the top level play i was tlaking about. even there i dont think its any better for snake than even with what mk can do with gimping him, etc. why would anyone play any other character? so i dont see mk as a "bannable" character since hes not broken in the top level of play as i talked about, but for the other 90% of the community, it doesnt seem fair. mk has a clear advantage that every other character in the entire game doesnt have. mk has no bad matchups, really no bad stages.

Meta beats snake people. Don't be silly.

As far as the ban goes, it won't happen, in NJ at least. My mains (minus snake) get ***** by stupid **** that isn't metaknight so I'm impartial to it. I think some other skill-less garbage should be banned though, such as zss's dsmash on fox, pika's cg on fox, and sheik's ftilt on spacies. Those might as well be standing infinites and they render 2 characters who are otherwise decent, into completely obsolete characters.

Lookie here, people

After months of discussion and reviewing all the information we could gather, the SBR voted on whether or not to ban Metaknight. It was voted that Metaknight should not be banned by a ratio of 3-1 in the voting. A significant majority of the SBR believes that Metaknight should not be banned from tournament play.

However, a significant majority of SBR members also recognizes that Metaknight is currently the best character in the game in singles tournament play. We believe that the community should grow organically and we do not consider it wrong for individual tournament organizers to ban Metaknight if they feel it will draw in more players or improve the community in their area. However, they should recognize that the majority of tournaments around them or in other regions will probably continue to include Metaknight. It's up to the tournament organizer to decide if they should ban MK at their event and up to the players to decide what kind of tournaments they wish to attend.
Pay attention to what I highlighted in red.

-why- can't we just do this? Let the TOs from the said state decide if they want to run a MK or non MK tournament.

And even though EC may seemed the 'most' infected in terms of MK dominance, state wise may be a different story. While there's like, over 3 MK Mains in most of the EC states such as NJ, MD etc., the few like NY (if not, ONLY) has like less then 3 MK mains. So even if a TO suddenly decided to make a anti-MK tourny, turnout shoudn't really bother at all.

I guess what I'm trying to say is to leave this topic alone and let the TOs themselves decide as a state instead of a cost. Whether we're with or without MK, we will be fine.

IMO, MK may be a force to be wreckon with, but he's not invincible.

Honestly even though I secondary MK, I'd be happy if he got banned lol, which he obviously won't. Cause I need to work on my Kirby but when I feel like playing with less effort I play MK and thus I'm playing with less effort and making myself worse. If he got banned I could focus more on my Kirby.

MK is like weed, he's addicting.

He's not a Boss Character
He's EXTREMELY Scrubby but not ban worthy, just because he has the best moveset in the game.
Has a sword...
like 7 Jumps...
all his specials can be used to recover...
.... seriously though either main mk, quit competitive gaming, or go play brawl + friendlies

Im gonna be so pissed at all the old falcon mains playing Brawl+if it ever makes it anywhere (god i hope not)
