I don't want to get into an argument about the leak, but predicting WFT automatically gives it some credibility.

I want to see the leak come true, mainly because I pretty much expect everyone on there already, minus Chorus Men who would be an amazing surprise for me.

So my educated predictions are as follows:
Pikachu = Mewtwo
Sonic = Snake and or Pac-Man
Kirby = Meta Knight

Maybe Wario, Ness, Captain Falcon, and Ice Climbers for good measure.

New Ganondorf would be awesome but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I suppose you would be correct if he was consistently trying to appeal to a more broad range of individuals (which is achieved just as effectively with characters from cult classic games). Is there any proof that this is Sakurai's intent for every single character on the roster? I would appreciate it very much if you could link the source that indicates such. I am going to assert that it is irrelevant. Why? Because we have Mario, we have Link, we have Pikachu, we have Kirby, we have Fox, we have Samus, and we have Donkey Kong. So Shulk is fairly negligible, after that Sakurai considers diversity. Sales are a contributing factor, but Shulk is just as appealing as Rosalina within most Smash circles. Why, you might ask? Perhaps it has to do with his raw move-set potential.

If you wish to interpret the surface of the perspective whilst blatantly disregarding other material facts, be my guest; however, it is not going to get you anywhere as it is not objectively true. No one really cares about your opinion, sadly.
I never said that it was his intent for every character in the roster. I said it needs balance.

A series like Xenoblade will never be as important to Nintendo, or Smash as Mario is. And will therefore not receive the same amount of care or representation in the game.

Xenoblade, by the time Smash comes out, will probably be as big as Mother was when Ness got into Smash.

This is the best argument I can come up with for Shulk.
Xenoblade could become the next Mother.

Add on his popularity and he's quite the likely character IMO.

It seems like Shulk would contribute to that balance.

Yeah, obscure characters won't generally get people to buy the game as much as characters that people already know and love. Sorry to say it, but at the end of the day, Smash is being made to make Nintendo money.

To what extent; my friend, to what extent? I do not like the word "always" as it insinuates an absolute which is not true based on precedent.
To the extent that lesser franchises won't get the kind of exposure in-game that the more important ones will. I mean, surely you agree that Xenoblade won't get as many reps as Mario or Zelda?

Not to mention the fact that the sequel is coming over the the west. That's more than what Mother had, it only had one game localized. I think Xenoblade will be bigger than Mother eventually.

Of course I agree with that sentiment; however, I still believe that Xenoblade, or another lesser franchise, will take priority over another significant Nintendo franchise. Not in exposure, but I do not believe that Shulk is out because Xenoblade does not sell as well as the Legend of Zelda.

Ah e3 . The biggest smash news giver. Its gonna be a great time that's for sure. Reminds me of the days people though a koopa trooper was playable in melee.

Wow, how would that work

B: Hide in shell
B-Side: Run out of shell
B-up: Become a Paratroopa
B-Down: Hold onto butt as your sent flying across the floor when someone jumps on you?

Like I said there's balance. Just because the more important franchises get more exposure, it doesn't mean that lesser ones won't be in at all.

Honestly, no one expecting anything other than Shulk and a stage+music for Xenoblade representation is going to be satisfied. I certainly wouldn't say it should get anywhere near as many as Mario, let alone more than one rep at all.

How did we get to that discussion, exactly?

Something that would be awesome, is at the end of the invitational, Sakurai, Reggie, and Iwata come out onto the stage. They ask the winning player, "so, you're a melee professional?" Then, the winner plays the three people in a four person battle, with the characters being Mewtwo, Roy, and Mario with a Dr.Mario alt. costume.

I've become convinced that time is getting slower and slower the closer we get to E3. The past month or so have sailed past, but something tells me this week is going to outright drag.

I am in the middle of my exam period so time is moving along swiftly, I did decide to take the 10th off studying however in favour of the digital event.
I hope i made the right choice....:awesome:

I'm confused... so there will be TWO E3 presentations... the Digital Event and that other thing the thread-starter talked about... or is that the Smash Invintaitonal Tournument?

It might be the Q&A session. Smash is going to have three events, after all. I do not believe that we are getting a second Direct though.

Following your logic, wouldn't they want to put Shulk in simply to advertise for X? People also widely agree that some series are put into smash simply to advertise/introduce their series cause smash is going to be bought either way (see Fire Emblem - Roy).

My Final (probably final) Predictions for E3:

- Zelda U (full trailer, not teaser, maybe even a demo too)
- New IP (since it's Miyamoto, much NFC + GamePad things)
- Some new Mario game (wether that be 2d, 3d, Paper, or some other Mario adventure)
- Mario Party U (traditional format, not that MP 9 crap)
- StarFox/Metroid/F-Zero (at least two of those three)
- SOMETHING Earthbound related (it's Mother's 25, and Earthbound's 20th, they must do something.
- Much more info on X, Yarn Yoshi, and FExSMT

Smash Predictions:
- Vets:
- Ness
- Captain Falcon
- Jiggz
- Mewtwo
- Wario
- Meta Knight
- Snake
- Maybe Ganondorf, G&W, and Falco
- Newcomers (not expecting all of these):
- Pac-Man
- Palutena
- Ridley
- Chrom
- K. Rool
- Chorus Men
- Mii
- Other features:
- Kirby Hats
- Stage Builder
- Spectator Mode
- Adventure Mode

The end.

As long as I get Smash, Zelda, and some EarthBound love, I'll be happy. Two of three are already confirmed... come on Nintendo, just... something for the Mother series.

In order of sureness, I guess?
Newcomers: Pac-Man, Shulk, Mii, Robin
Veterans: Meta Knight, Wario, Ice Climbers (all sure of)

or other Newcomers: maybe Palutena, maybe Dixie Kong (these two could be unlockable, but Palutena has been teased so much so...hmm...)
or other veterans: mayyybe Lucas (couuuld still be cut)

But in all, probably 2 to 3 newcomers shown, 4 absolute max, and those 3 veterans definitely, with Lucas as a maybe. Characters like Ganon and Wolf stay secret and unlockable so shhhh.

My smash predictions:
Sakurai will reintroduce Wario, Ice Climbers and Ganondorf, listing all the changes that they made to their gameplay styles, mostly turning the Ice Climbers into a single entity, thanks to the limitations of the 3ds, making their movesets together. Wario gets moves based off the Wario Land franchise but still retains some from his old moveset. Ganondorf is totally revamped with a new move set making it more closer to the LoZ version of the character instead of just being a Cap Falcon clone.
Then a trailer rolls out with Link and Zelda fighting together againts ganondorf when suddenly Ghirahim joins the fight. Goes on showing some of his moveset but doesn't show him off completely, saving some special moves and the final smash for later days.
NFC figures will let wii u owners 3ds stages on the wii u and maybe AR cards will let 3ds owners use wii u stages (except if some form of peripheral for NFC figures was announced.
Another trailer starts with Ike fighting againts Marth when suddenly either Chrom or Robin clashes in. Shows the moves.
Proceeds to show the move editor and an exclusive mode for the wii u.
A pokemon trailer where jigglypuff takes the stage and shows some of its new fairy type moves, but then a shadow comes out of nowhere and throws jigglypuff away. It's mewtwo. Sakurai showes some gameplay but mostly has the same moves that in melee. Its final smash is the megaYvolution.
Reveals a august 3ds release date and says that the wii u release date will most probably be in the first couple of weeks on december. Showes off the Wii u bundle and the 3ds bundle, with special smash skins on both the consoles and the wii u gamepad and, saying goodbye, the smash segment ends.

The rest of the nintendo presentation goes on normally but then suddenly at the end of it a trailer out of nowhere starts. It's ridley and he's in the game as a character, but no moveset is shown.
