In case anyone was wondering who was behind each lock in my CSS. How close was your own guess?
You put Wii Fit Trainer in a weird position back when the leak was on full force, we were constantly arguing how the RPG characters have their own row back at the Smash Leaks group, and with the Gematsu leak in mind, few of us though Lucas or Ness was cut. ;-;

My line if thinking there was that Mr. G&W, ROB, and WFT were the "hardware" representatives. As a big MOTHER fan, I never advocate cutting Ness and Lucas. :) But I hope they diversify their moves more.

I would like to shake your hand for acknowledging them as hardware characters and not WTF characters.

Just read the thread and the CSS leak being confirmed fake.

@ CapnMuffin CapnMuffin , first, that was pretty convincing and I loved the fun I had at the beginning and for that, I have to thank you.

However, after I realized tat the people here was WAY too persistent, the fun got away and it quickly became VERY annoying. To be completely honest with all people there, for me, the leak was more fake than real after the ridley pixel thing was found out. There was other error on other images that turned out o be way bigger than this one but what I seriously don't understand is that some people here tough that they could be glitches. I would have more fun if this possibility which isn't even a percent wasn't considered. Not to mention the first 2 might be real thing which removed all fun I had (because here, I couldn't prove the impossibility).

What I mean there is that I should have had way more fun than I had mainly because of too much persistence. @ Artsy Omni Artsy Omni pointed out that people would still believe this leak even after his font proof and thus, can't be confirmed fake. That is too much persistence and those type of things can drive me crazy because they just don't make any sense. All the error a glitch or optical illusion? Sorry but that was impossible and that is why I just won't talk about leak any more since there's literally NO END until someone came claiming that he made the leak or that it turns out to be real.

I'm sorry @ CapnMuffin CapnMuffin but your leak wasted my time more than made it worth it because of the persistence here. So, I should stop talking about them real or fake because there will always be sceptical and true believer but in the end, you should not even consider the existence of the leak unless proven true or fake (even the sal leak which I have acknowledged how credible it is).

I just don't want to see Pac-Man or Miis...I hope it's fake simply because of those.

But he did say Shulk was in...

I'm conflicted.

I never thought about them as hardware characters. Makes sense to me. But about Lucas, I wouldn't mind him, just as long he's a bit more diverse from Ness. But if he does get cut, he could work as an alt. costume for Ness.

Fair enough. Part of my reasoning to do this was to show how easily this can be done and that everyone should approach leaks with open mindedness and a veil of skepticism. Sorry if anyone became frustrated.

I originally didn't like the idea of Pacman or Miis, but I've made my peace with it.

Ultimately, characters are included not purely for who they are in their respective franchises, but also because characters are a proxy or medium through which Sakurai and his design team can create interesting movesets and gameplay styles. I think the blank-slate nature of the 2 characters makes them very attractive to a video game designer because it allows him to be really creative, rather than just do what's obvious. Because ultimately, video games are a form of expression for the designer, and if he's not able to express his creativity or wild ideas, then he's just a mouse cursor that gets pushed around by the fan's desires.

Sure, there's pressure that comes from the heritage of various characters and franchises, and all of the character inclusion decisions are extremely multifaceted, but let's not forget that this game is produced by a human being with his own desires.

So if Sakurai decides that Pac-man and Miis offer something new to Smash Bros, I won't argue with him. When you shed all of the fanaticism that surrounds the prospects of various characters and franchises and look purely at the prospects of the gameplay that might stem from them, a lot of really popular characters just aren't very interesting for a game designer.

Which is ultimately why everyone's systems of reasoning for why characters "make sense or not" or "deserve a spot" or not really don't carry much weight in the grand scheme of things. Sakurai has shown time and time again that he is his own person, not just a representative of the players. Whether or not that's considered a good thing is up to the individual, but I have a lot of respect for him, knowing how difficult it is to try to create something from nothing.

EDIT: btw, this isn't really directed at you per se, but you inspired this novel that I just wrote. =P

Well, I can see them being fun characters, that's not really what I'm concerned about.

It's just, given the choice, there are other characters I would like to see more.

Yeah I know. =P We all have characters we'd love to see, probably more than characters that are already confirmed. I'd love to see Klonoa in the game over Pacman as a Namco character, just because I think he's more interesting, but he's not nearly well-known enough to warrant an inclusion. Everyone is going to be disappointed to a degree when all is said and done.

Unless you get lucky and just so happened to have all of your desires come true, which probably means your list of desires wasn't very big. =P

Your argument makes sense on paper (with regard to "deserving" being a poor criteria), but you're talking down "a lot of really popular characters" as if they're inherently dull, rather than that the development team cannot or chooses not to take advantage of the gameplay possibilities they have to offer. The characters included are not inherently better than the characters excluded, and Sakurai is not God, despite what his fans might have you believe.

See, the thing with a character like Pac-Man is that even though a lot of people might dislike the idea of him being there, a lot of other people do want him in. He's also just a very iconic video game character in general so him being in smash brothers just helps make the entire cast that much more special. Personally,(and I think I'm in the minority here) I could care less K. Rool isn't in, but if he is in I'm not gonna shun Sakurai for it. In fact, I would shrug it off and have fun with him regardless just like I did with Snake.

Well that's why I kept it general and said "a lot of popular characters." Because it's just a broad generalization that I'm not willing to apply to a specific set of characters.

Obviously, Sakurai is not God. I could have a pretty long conversation about the shortcomings I think he has, but for all of his flaws, he does a lot of things right. I think we agree on the fact that the characters included aren't inherently better than those that aren't. That's sort of why I think it's useful to look past the character and just see the moveset. It's ultimately up to what the (flawed) designer thinks he can do well, and not up to the character's merits on paper. There's no objective way to prove that a character is inherently better or worse anyways. =P

Yeah, I really can't see myself being "angry" at a character reveal. I mean I don't want K. Rool really, either. But if he was revealed tomorrow I wouldn't mind. I play pretty much all of these games anyway, I just like seeing more characters. For Pac-Man it's the same thing. I'll play as him and go to his stage and everything, but I don't really want him there, especially if it means that there's another Nintendo character there instead.

Miis, I don't know. Just something I don't like about seeing them there. I kinda feel like online would get filled with a bunch of people with obscene things on the faces of the Miis.

I don't particularly care for Pac-Man or Miis (I don't feel Pac-Man is needed to "complete" any sort of "company battle". Mario, Sonic, and Mega Man work fine as a sort of holy trinity. That seems to be the most common reason I hear from people, a lot of people don't really care about Pac-Man as a character, they just want "Nintendo VS SEGA VS Capcom VS Namco"). I won't mind them if they are added to the roster, but they aren't special characters who have some sort of free pass.

In terms of third-party characters in general, I'd like to see Snake return (it'd be a pity for him to have to leave after being in Brawl. He was my favourite addition to that roster that I didn't ask for). And I think Professor Layton should get in, especially since, to the Western world, Professor Layton is a Nintendo franchise. Nintendo localise the games, and as such, have made us fall in love with the character and his universe. Plus, since he isn't going to be the star of the franchise anymore, Smash would be a great send off to the character. There's also a lot of interesting moveset potential.

Yeah, Miis are the odd one here, if only because Smash Brothers is a series where Nintendo characters are supposed to be battling out with one another and each is unique and such. But then if you have Mii in there it just seems odd and out of place.

I actually defended Creepy Ridley.... Oh, silly me.
Hey, I did, too, don't feel bad.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Pac-Man or pretty much anything in the Gematsu Leak.

Okay, well, that's not entirely true, I'd totally play Palutena, but for the most part the rest don't really grab me as 'Nintendo All-Stars', so I gotta disagree with Sakurai's continually looser and looser definition. Am I gonna be mad if it turns out they're really in? Nah. I mean, I don't HAVE to play those characters, and I can still use 'em as punching bags in-game, so there's a silver lining to everything.

Here a new leak to discuss..
New leak:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/633202-super-smash-bros-for-wii-u/69315808
Alright, so my last Topic was deleted for some reason so here's the new one. I've gotten a bit more info from my source so I'll post it all here.

Release Date:8/4/14 (3ds)
Release Date: Sometime Between (Not sure when yet) 11/15/14-12/20/14(Wiiu)

5/27/14 Leak:
Some Newcomers:
-Chrom: To be revealed at E3
-Mewtwo: To be revealed at E3
-Ridley: To be revealed at E3
-Pac-Man: To be revealed at E3
-Palutena: To be revealed after 7/1
-Isaac: Unknown Release

More to come later.

A couple stages:
-Rhythm Heaven Stage (Unsure of which)
-Pac-Man 8-bit level 1 stage
-Rainbow Road from Mario Kart
-Mt. Aleph from Golden sun
-Volcano from Donkey Kong Country

As with the newcomers, there are more stages to come as well.

I planned on putting the Assist trophies here as well, but I'm going to wait a little but more on that info.

He says that his website is in development still, and once he has enough time to work on it and finish it he will tell me. I'll post the link to the website on a different topic, but watch out for it.

November isn't Winter... Then again this is Nintendo we're talking about. If this leak is true (highly unlikely), I'll be very satisfied; however, I still want Snake to be confirmed.

Debunked! Mewtwo isn't a Newcomer LOL

Well if it actually is Winter 2014, then we only have between 12-21 and 12-31. I think that would be way to close to Christmas for Nintendo. I think they actually meant Holiday 2014.

It's one of the few leaks to mention Isaac, which is nice. Other than that, there isn't much to say.

I would be super stoked for Isaac and Palutena. Sadly, it seems like text leaks always seem to cater to expectations.

Maybe it means Rainbow Road for the WiiU version.

Rainbow Road is already confirmed. So why would it "come later?"
Could be trying to say that there's a Wii U version of the stage. It's not unreasonable, but again, this "leak" has nothing going for it. It's a glorified wish list. =P

Y'know, it seems like the only difference between a "leak" and a prediction is whether or not the label "Leak" is slapped onto it by the poster, claiming that he has a source.

I feel like the only leaks worth talking about are the ones that are partially fulfilled and still pending. Otherwise, all "leaks" are equal, more or less.

Unless, of course, it has somebody like Shrek in it.

Maybe he meant a rainbow stage for the Wii U version? Although that would be weird having two variants of the same stage between both version.
It could be a reverse scenario of the Boxing Ring, where the stage gets shown off first on the 3DS, but exists on both systems.

But this is in all honesty just another wishlist. Nothing to see here.

If there is going to be an MK stage on Wii U, I'm pretty sure they'd pick something more spectacular, such as Mario Kart Stadium from MK8.

You bring up a good point. But yeah, there is really no need to discuss this any further.

I've pretty much said all I can on the Gematsu leak and the Palutena screenshots leak. The former I don't buy, the latter has nothing going against it after all this time, so it could actually be real, in my opinion (not that it matters, since I think Palutena will be in the game anyway).
