Somebody in their game found an item, telling us that Valve is implementing visual-based things for characters as items just like in TF2.

Well, we've known that since March. Juggernaut has 8 different swords and Furion has about 5 beards or so. You can find a full list of the items on Cybormatt's blog.

However the items were briefly dropping, and quite a few people got some. Although they can not view what they got.

Yeah, Dota 2 has been showing us hints that it will be like TF2 for awhile now. As long as the items and weapons don't change attributes like what happens in TF2, then it's going to be the perfect F2P model in the MOBA genre. :bee:

I want those custom courier and different hexes!

Yeah, what I mean is that I hope there won't be any breach of integrity. Game developers usually say things that contradicts themselves later. They haven't tried that yet because we have IceFrog, Valve has their ideals for Dota based on IF's ideals. And that is good. That's the only thing that assures me that the game won't go too overboard on how the items should work. ;)

How would I set my skills to smartcast in Dota 2? I tried setting the QWER to "auto cast" and epicly failed, I had to click on the ability before using it each time. :( (although it lead to hilarity like accidentally ulting when I misclicked my ward ability with venomancer. but we won and I didn't feed so I was happy with that game.)

There isn't an equivalent to smart casting in Dota 2 :p

If I remember well, before the options menu revamp, we could enable or disable smart-casting (and there was a bug with mouse buttons being used to cast skills or use items). Since they remade that menu, I haven't seen such option again. I'm guessing Valve is putting it on the worktable so there are less bugs and glitches. Or maybe I'm just high? #_#

Anyway, what I really want to see is a way where we can customize every-single key for each individual hero. It annoys me that when we set QWER, every hero will have those settings. It's just bothersome, for example, I like using my pointer to cast abilities that can be used often (Like Windrunner's Powershot) or abilities that require some sort of reflex (like Storm Spirit's ultimate). You see, skills that have a very long cooldown, I like setting them to my pinky or my thumb so I won't press them by accident and etc etc.

We can do that easily in WC3 through that document of text with hotkeys assigned to it, it would be logic if we could do that with Dota 2. But the thing is, they should implement it in the UI, so it's easy for every single player to configure their settings without needing to go through endless cfg. files.

Currently, QWER stinks. I would like to be able to fully custumize each individual unit in the game with easy (think of Starcraft 2, one of the most competitive games out there, and setting hotkeys there is a piece of cake). Valve should do the same IMO. I don't feel like changing my hotkeys every single game because sequence which the shortcuts are displayed don't seem that much comfortable or intuitive for all heroes. So while there's no such thing, I just go with Legacy since I'm less likely to accidentally press the wrong key (even though some heroes have a poor distribution of their hotkeys, like SD, so I just go with my own settings in these case). :p

I've just switched off legacy and am attempting to get used to qwedfr. So far I'm not a huge fan.

Hey just letting everyone know I still play a lot. Just hit me up whenever you wanna play. :)

Tip: Don't lose to junglers who are obviously going to jungle. Lycan/Furion/Naix etc. (BLOCK CREEP CAMPS WITH WARDS. I DON'T SEE THIS ENOUGH FROM SUPPORT PLAYERS) And disrupt pulling when you can.

Also play support well, and don't get too selfish. Let the carries get majority of last hits and buy that extra set of wards instead of benefiting yourself. Get that gem or dust, so carries can spend their money on more important items. I play mostly support. and I rarely see any of this in pubs. :(

spending more than 1 ward on blocking camps is pretty worthless if the other team has even half a brain

just go with ur other roamer to kill the jungler

It's also important to block the camp when you are facing a very aggressive lane and your carry needs to farm. With that you can keep the creeps equilibrium very close to your own tower while the enemy won't be able to pull the jungle, disrupting that precious safety.

Anyway, warding the jungle is very bothersome to the enemy. While your team spends 200g on a set of Observer wards, your enemy team will also spend 200g on a set of Sentry Wards if they choose to counter. However, the team which is buying the Observer Wards for blocking will have a little advantage: Both will lose 1 Ward, but, by blocking the camp you will still benefit of one or two creep waves without being pulled by you enemies or one camp less for them to farm at that moment (because for de-warding, your enemy have to notice it first). And to make it even better, you will still have one Observer Ward left which you can set up anywhere, that extra Sentry Ward your enemy has will become useless since you can set up your Observer Ward in an unexpected area and they won't find it. Its like gambling but you have a good chance of success, while your enemy does not benefit with anything and only loses 200g.

If they happen to buy Gem, it's a wasted money, early game specially. Why is it a waste of money? Because 700g can be better invested with other utility items, and it's very likely that your enemy support won't have 700g at their disposal early game, which might lead their jungler or carry to buy that Gem. But all of that is still wasted since buying Gem very early tends to back-fire, because getting smoke-ganked or dying early game is too easy, specially if you are the Gem holder. "Oh but we give our Gem to a hero who has Blink in our team." Good luck then roaming the map de-warding stuff while you could be in the lane doing something more useful and productive.

I don't know, I just feel like warding the enemy jungle has so much more to offer and a huge nuisance to our enemies, I recommend! ;)

I have disrupted so many junglers who raged it's not even funny. There are too many junglers who free farm in pubs and get away with it. AKA Lycan

Having a ward block the pulling camp and the camp above it on dire side is huge for your team. They have waited for creep spawn and you are already a lvl ahead of them when they go to lane. You also don't have the luxury of disrupting junglers all the time if you have a hard mu in your lane. And people in pubs tend to ignore ganks or going to help out lanes. I'd rather easily shutdown a jungler rather than let him free farm because my partner "didn't feel like it." 200g netting me 3 camps (easy camp too) blocked is pretty good... And you won't get counter warded anytime soon seeing as everyone is broke at start and going back to base lets you miss out on valuable xp.

if ure blocking the sent spawns, then 1 sent will take care of both obs, assuming you're talking about the two medium camps. takes care of magic bush as well

i mean it works against bad players that don't anticipate their pulls/neuts being warded, but again, better players will go in groups to prevent warding/blocking with the option to go for an early kill on the 0 minute rune even if they don't have an obvious jungler

also nothing wrong with buying both sents/obs at the beginning if pulling is going to be crucial to establishing a necessary advantage in lane etc. additionally, roaming as a group of 2 and protecting your jungler is a fine thing to do since from there ure in a position to threaten smoke ganks if necessary on whatever lane needs it and so on

and yes everything works in pubs so theres no point arguing there

Sinz i played a game today! My Elo is really low, so i play with terrible pubs. One guy spent the entire game telling everyone what to do and blaming us all when he died, but really he just sucked. Like he ran in to "gank" mid, from the bottom right side of their tower and died to the 3 heroes they had there. I think his exact quote after dying there was "****ty team". We would have lost, but luckily my PL could solo their entire team including the spectre they fed. Its really surprising that I could, too, since my team went to lengths to steal kills from everyone else, particularly me.

Luckily my favorite hero is in dota2 again! PL is the ****! Maybe now that I stop cycling through random chars I can raise my Elo above this trash level. I want to play with some of you guys, maybe that'll help too. This game is uber boring with bad partners :(

the ignore feature is really important if you want a fun, non-distracting game of dota 2. identifying ******/whiner/derping/complaining players and ignoring them early is a good skill to have.

esp, if you're feeding. dude i could give a **** if i feed in dota2, this is a brand new game to me, feeding is inevitable as start getting better at the game, if people are gonna give me **** for doing bad in a blind pick normal they can blow me and they're getting ignored quick. anyone in chat being constructive i can take, but i usually say fk da haters and work on figuring out my mistakes myself.

^ word. Obv turn off voice chat. I can't handle that. I got good at halo 2 by just turning off voice chat and learning to speak the non-verbal language of the game
