Yeah. Anything. I can't stand it when I'm the only person that: likes this band; thinks this way; watches this show; likes this song; loves this movie; plays this sport...

Do any of you have anything like that?

I ask because I made a thread about a band I like, and not a single person replied.
And I have no friends that like the show LOST. I mean seriously, where's the love?

Not really. Individuality's not such a bad thing. :3

It's a great thing. I'm happy to be the only guy in my group of friends that actually collects hoodies and wears them on a constant basis. But, after I watch an episode of LOST...I have no one to talk about it with. I know it's a popular show, and there are people out there that like it, I just keep wondering: Where are all of you?

I have a pretty grim view of people in general, so I really don't mind if my likes/dislikes set me apart in anyway. Likewise, I don't mind liking something that's the cool thing to like. I'm just true to what I enjoy and get more kicks out of life that way.

Hangin' with friends in the nightlife to Pokémon by day. I can dig that, good stuff.

Omg I do that too! (the hoodie thing) But only when its cool out.

I'm sorry nobody replied to your thread :( . There are probably forums around the net for fans of Lost. I hang around a forum for the show Roseanne :) .

I didn't think about that. It must be so lonely on your end.

Yeah, there are communities, but I mean outside of those (cause those are a given). I'm also including real life than solely the net. No one out here has any good taste. I mean, no one in MD is cool. haha

Hoodies are awesome. True story.

Lol, individuality is only good if it's genuine. If you like something because the rest doesn't or the other way around, you're just labeling it without trying it (or if you have tried it, you tried it with bias like I did with 4th gen Pokémon).
What Teran said is pretty much a good way. Just stay true to what you genuinely (dis)like.

Also, no, I don't really hate being alone, because I'm good enough to not be made fun of because of my opinion. If I'm not on my own, great, I can go make fun of others with like-minded ones for not sharing our view.

It's not the 'being an outcast' or 'being different' concept that bothers me, it's that I like to enjoy things with other people. I never get to do that. 'Cept with Smash, but that's it really.

Hell to the yeah.

It gets lonely not always having someone to discuss something with, but seriously, Teran hit the nail right on the head. I have a very low opinion of people in general, and most "cool" stuff is utter crap. Of course, super indie for the sake of being indie isn't any better, but individualism is much better than getting lost in the crowd.

Whoever likes something just because another person does is ridiculous. They have no personality.

Was that a reply to the OP? Because I wasn't getting at that.

And yes, Firus. Most "cool" stuff is garbage. It actually pains me to see how popular some of the reality shows on TV are. You could kill my entire family, and I would just hate you. But nothing compares to that of a reality show. I'm the definition of hatred when I see that crap on.

But some things, no matter how much of an individual it makes you, need other people for you to talk with about it.

I guess sometimes, it's not so much the lonesome part, it's the "How can you not like this!? It's ****ing great!" part.

A lot of people at my school love reality tv. When I voiced how much I dislike reality tv in class, I found that there were just as many people who agreed with me.

If you express your opinion, you're bound to find people that agree with you.

It's nice being alone once in awhile with my thoughts. My friends always complain we don't hangout enough because I'm cramped up in my house. lol

Awww, my friend likes Lost :c I've never watched it because I just never felt like it, but it seems good... But to answer your question, YES. I feel that way, like, all the time. No one else likes Hilary Duff AND Flyleaf. Let alone Amanda Palmer... Well, I just assume that no one's ever heard of her. And by no one I mean very few people of course. And no one really thinks like me, either... :c Maybe you and I think alike :D

I definitely agree with the OP. I'm a fan of a bunch of stuff that my standard groups of friends aren't really into. They're not big into music, and what they like is generally too metal for my taste anyway, so there isn't much to discuss there. They don't watch the shows I watch, and a lot of them don't play the games I like. They're either jrpg junkies, stereotypical PC gamers, or are working on playing through all of the most violent 360 games they can find. I'm a Nintendo fanboy who prefers platforming to punching and swords to sniper rifles. I also spend more time online than them, so even web culture is often lost on them except the most viral stuff or what I show them.

With a lot of the stuff, I'm at the point where I don't even tell them what I watch, because there's no way they'll watch it. I've been watching Glee (amazing!), but I know none of my friends would know about it, much less enjoy it, so I just make sure I'm alone in my room when it's on so I can have my hour of magical, musical glee.

But this past weekend, I was hanging out with a few people I hadn't seen in a long time. They share a good number of my media-based interests, and we were able to gush about our favorite series and all that fun stuff. I forgot how much I missed having that stuff to talk about with people. It was great.

You're experiencing the effects of Network Externality, and your feelings are perfectly reasonable. In many cases, having other people who share your enthusiasm about something serves to amplify your enjoyment of that thing. Dungeons and Dragons, Smash, Halo, Magic: The Gathering, most sports and athletics, Internet forums, wild parties, having a cell phone, being a musician, being a philosopher, paying taxes, and so forth, all are made significantly more fun (except taxes) and rewarding if those things are popular and you're not the only one doing them. In fact, many things become worthless or nearly worthless if they're not popular. (American) Football, for example, is pretty boring to play alone.

Of course, sometimes network externality works in a negative way as well, so it can also be reasonable to not enjoy something simply because it is popular.
