Yeah, he really wants that envelope.

I love how your post implies that he wants the invitation for himself and not for Hayabusa.

If Hayabusa doesn't get in during Smash Ultimate he will make it eventually. It's a matter of time. If anything the only thing he might had against him before Ultimate was the lack of significant demand. It definitely existed but maybe it wasn't enough for Nintendo to care. But that has definitely changed now.

Definitely. It changed the minute Simon got announced. Then all that sweet NES retro momentum shifted to Hayabusa.

There's a reason "Crashabusa" was a bit of a joke for awhile.

Hayabandicoot... the ninja bandicoot who fights a jackton of monsters... and occasionally shows up in a fighting game with a bunch of girls where his presence is REALLY out of place but it's ok because there are other male characters that feel out of place too so he's not alone. Tina Armstrong DID Break Blow him in the face with her butt, Keijo style tho, so he did get that out of it.

For me, it's Sega, SPECIFICALLY Sonic. Sonic fans are RABID like... if a movie makes him look wrong and toothy, we WILL rage until they fix it! Sonic fans's rabidness comes from a place of love in the end.

But no, Sonic has his 30th Anniversary this year, him and his cast of characters are popular enough on their own to sell as DLC on their own... of course, THEN we argue over exactly WHICH Sonic fighter that is, which then bleeds into ANOTHER argument about "patterns/fan rules broken" in regards to Assist Trophies (Shadow and Knuckles). Even apart from characters present in the game in some physical form (Tails, Knuckles, Silver weirdly enough, Shadow) there are still others. Blaze for that Sonic Rush love, Amy, they could somehow ram Metal Sonic in there and correct the egregious error that is the decided lack of "What I'm Made Of".

Heck, Sonic fans are rabid enough, if you told them a CHAO was playable with Dark, Hero, Angel and Devil Chao alts and a Chao Garden stage, they'd buy that up too.

Sonic's got more going for him than people think, and not JUST Eggman either. Though I certainly wouldn't mind him.

I do think Pass 2, and to an extent Pass 1, has been the wildest in terms of speculation.

Like, in base we kinda were able to see a pseudo path going forward. A lot of the characters added were the most popular around the time of the ballot. Inkling, Ridley, K. Rool, and Isabell were all heavily speculated with even Simon not being the biggest shock but like holy hell, aside from like Hero and Banjo the entire DLC roster this time around has just shaken up everything.

I'm an idiot who forgot how to read for a second and when I got to "non-VG character" I was like "Wait a minute, we have Variable Geo characters in Smash? Yuka Takeuchi, Kaori Yanase, Manami Kusunoki and her NEKO ROCKET PAWWWWWWNCHI! SINCE WHEN?"

Although I looked it up, and Chaos Chao is actually just the general word for immortal Chao. The specific types are Light Chaos (neutral), and then Hero Chaos and Dark Chaos. Yes, I remember the names Angel Chao and Devil Chao, too, but I have no idea where they came from.

And I remember them resembling Chaos a lot more in terms of coloration - at least by default. You can definitely breed a Light Chaos that's the right color, but I thought that was the default.

Eh, not like I ever had the patience as a kid to even get my Chao to evolve all the way. Maybe I should try it out again...

I honestly forgot that the "Angel Chao" and "Devil Chao" are technically called "Chaos Chao" and that there was a "neutral Chaos Chao"... yeah, of course those would be alts haha.


Chao, Hero Chao, Dark Chao, Neutral Chaos Chao, Angel Chao (Hero Chaos Chao), Devil Chao (Dark Chaos Chao), a Chao with a Skull on his head, a Chao with an eggshell on his head. Those are the alts.

Then they have a version of Yoshi's Final Smash but it's the Chao Race and a bunch of Chao just RUN YOU OVER AND YOU GET SWEPT DOWN THE RIVER!

Either that or they just throw you against the wall repeatedly.

Stage would have to incorporate the Dark Chao Garden with the blood red water so that you could swim in blood red water.

Quite a few people refereed to the character as Rex & Pyra, though I suppose a lot did drop Pyra as well.

Steve speculation shut down after the Banjo/Steve wars.

Also, I'd say Pokémon and Fire Emblem should share a spot because when one is mentioned, the other isn't far off most of the time.

I do think it’s a shame that Koei-Tecmo may not get a character this time around. As much as I love Hayabusa, and whether you do or don’t, you have to admit that it’s crazy one of Nintendo’s biggest collaborators that’s worked on Pokémon, Zelda, Fire Emblem, and more hasn’t gotten anything aside from stuff that’s co-owned by Nintendo. Sure you got spirits in Hyrule Warriors and Fatal Frame and one single Spirit from Persona but KT has been in the Nintendo family circle since before the Wii U so it’s just strange.

You could say Nintendo is trying to develop new relationships through Smash and I would agree with you if it weren’t for Square getting 3 characters in total through the DLC and Microsoft getting 2. It’s just all over the place to be honest and it’s shocking we haven’t gotten a character from Ubisoft or Activision either but I don’t think as much so as KT.

All in all I personally don’t think this means Hayabusa is disconfirmed because, well I’m an optimist to be frank, but if he doesn’t show up in the last 2 It’ll be a bit of a bummer. I know he’s not everyone’s favorite, and I know people are assuredly sick of talking about him through the DLC speculation but for a character with so much history and legacy with Nintendo and from a company who collaborates with Nintendo seemingly every year at this point not to make it in... it’s just a shame.

What's damning about the interview is not the answer itself, but the fact that he just casually brought up Smash himself rather than the answer be forced out of him.

I mean, based on the question itself and prior interviewers asking the same thing, I feel their response kind of leads into itself.

It's certainly cold water, but I can't say I agree with their response being called un-prompted.

I read that and it brought back Dead or Alive 6 flashbacks where you hover over DLC characters that you haven't bought and if you try to select them it reads "You don't have a license to use that character"

and I'm like "that's... A WAY... to word that."

It's funny how people always go on and on about how UNEXPECTED the DLC is, and yet we have gotten basically Four of these Ten characters listed on here, not much but i guess Spitballing and Broken Clocks right twice a day did help among the way.

Not that it matters that much since i do not believe Crash is happening anymore due to timing, so im not gonna care about the last 2 characters if the last fighters are any precedent.

But im not bothered, i got Simon ****ING Belmont and K.Rool so im set all things considered, plus im all about KoF XV character revals now, every ****ing Wendesday baby. Im not gonna rest until i see US Sports Team back in action.

Steve was a character that was very much talked about, and it wasn't uncommon to see him talked about and especially was brought up in constrast to Banjo, he only fell out of discussion once Banjo was revealed, but came back the instant FP2 was announced, albeit in a smaller scale

Though with that said, I would NOT say no to playable Chaos 0 in Smash with a Station Square stage. And please let him come with not only moves inspired by Sonic Battle where he's whipping water all over and he's all slow and intimidating with the high strength and slushy sound effects, but also this beast of a GBA song (Open Your Heart's already in).

I feel like Sega is the most likely:
-Square just got Sephiroth and I doubt we would get something else from them. Also at this point, the only charcters from them I would say is likely is 2B (sorry Neku fan)
-Capcom just got a bunch of mii costumes. This might or might not hurt their chances, it's hard to really say. I would say that Dante and Wright still have a shot, but it's weird that they just got their own wave of mii costumes. I know it was because of recent game release (Ghost n goblins resurection and Monster hunter rise), but I feel like those could have been saved for a Capcom character.
-Konami imo don't have a lot of potential for new characters as dlc for now. You could make a case for a second Castlevania or second Metal gear characters, but I think that if we do get a second third party from an already represented franchise Sonic is most likely. You could also make a case for Contra or Frogger, but I don't see those retro franchise getting in as dlc. There's also SIlent hill, but since Resident evil couldn't be in I don't really see it happening.
-I think Sega is by far the most likely. Not only they got nothing in fighter pass 2 (no characters and no mii costumes), but they still have some pretty big franchise untouched. I talked a bit about a second Sonic rep (could be Eggman or Tails), but also Puyo puyo, SMT and Streets of rage could be possible. Probably less likely, but they also have Phantasy star online which isn't discussed a lot but influenced a lot of jrpg and it's pretty big in it's own way. You could also make a case for Hatsune Miku, but she's technically not a video game character (although I personally think that she could "break the rules" since she's very closely affiliated to video game).

So in summary:
-Square and Konami: I doubt it
-Capcom: unsure at this point but still have some potential
-Sega: Most likely to happen imo

I do know that with DOA5, Koei had the license for Mai expire, and you can't buy it anymore. It seems that with how they license from 3rd parties like SNK, they do it to where it easily expires. this might also extend to how they license their own characters to other games

Hmmmm, now that I remember that FP2's chars were decided on before starting work on it, it's starting to make me doubt that Hayabusa is gonna be playable; otherwise, that developer wouldn't have said that he's still waiting for an invitation.

And yeah, Chaos 0 would be really neat in and of himself. He'd have the best crouch of them all because he'd just turn into a puddle. Sonic Battle does some really neat things with him.

Did you know Chaos is just kind of hanging out inside the Master Emerald in every game since Sonic Adventure? He even comes out of it during Sonic Battle, and Knuckles isn't very surprised so I guess he must do it often. I wonder if Tikal comes out on occasion, too.

See, now I'm imagining that he's not just wiping out an echidna tribe every time, but specifically the echidnas from the Knuckles Clan three thousand years ago every time. He just kills Pachacamac's ghost, and then Pachacamac's ghost's ghost, and then Pachacamac's ghost's ghost's ghost.
