I don't have much experience with LoL, but the characters look cool and I think they'd be pretty fun in Smash. I just dread the backlash we'd have to sit through...

For the characters, I'm going with Ahri by default for being one of the few characters I'm familiar with (Not a very high bar to clear, mind you). Aside from that, I also know about Ryze getting a revamp every other Tuesday, Lux(?) referencing Marisa a lot, Teemo being ironically hated, an Yasuo being unironically hated. I'm just gonna hope it's not the latter, in that case. The negative reactions would be strong enough already.
You forgot Draven, aka: "What would happen if Heihachi was 110 % more egocentrical, played a constant juggling game and became a meme?"

Sometimes it isn't just "grrr mobas killed rts" that makes me not want a rep from the genre.
It's far from the only reason - Empire Earth (which was a niché RTS series but had two good games) for example went down the drain with III, Age of Empires took a lengthy pause after III, WarCraft focused a lot more on WoW (ReForged didn't really help) etc.

It's unfortunate (as a fan of both genres), but blaming it all on MOBAs feels very much premature.

There's only one way to find out who the LOL rep will be: a random selector

i don't know who this is but they're in
Skeleton Reaper dude who specializes in lockdown and harvesting souls. Pretty popular from what I know.

While I don't doubt that this could've happened since Nintendo's the kind of company that gets active on legal stuff that interests them and that only (such as any unofficially produced games / consoles), got a link to that? It still sounds kinda weird to have someone publicly arrested just for that reason.
Unfortunately, I really couldn't find anything in English that went in detail beyond saying "Oh yeah, here's a thing that happened". However, I did find a Japanese Pokemon Wiki article that Google Translate didn't mangle too much that explains things:
There was a problem fetching the tweet
TL;DR: Someone made and sold an underground, pornographic doujinshi featuring Pokemon characters (including :ultpikachu:) in late 1998. Nintendo found out in early 1999, sued the artist, and the Kyoto police arrested and detained them for 22 days for copyright violation.

Now, this is entirely speculation, but the reason I think this was Nintendo making an example out of someone is because of what had occurred with Konami earlier that same year. In May 1998, a Japanese tabloid ran an article on an obscure, Tokimeki Memorial-themed doujin hentai video as a rating stunt. This actually became a minor public scandal, as Tokimeki Memorial was both extremely popular and in a genre that had, up until that point, largely been the purview of pornographic games. As a result, Konami went scorched earth on any Tokimeki Memorial doujin, regardless of content.

Given that Pokemon was just as big as Tokimeki Memorial at the time and just as likely to be put in the crosshairs of someone looking to sell magazines, it wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo figured that they would need to cover their ass and make sure nothing like this happened to them. As such, some random artist who happened to be in their home city of Kyoto had the unlucky honour of being charged in the dramatic way possible to send a message to those who would use their IP for potentially NSFW purposes.

LoL doesn’t sound very nice.
Honestly, MOBAs in general aren't for everyone. There's a lot of frustration that comes with playing these team-based games, but if you can look past that and appreciate the mechanics and the good things the community has to offer, it's pretty good.

So, like Smash. :4pacman:

But really, don't take me and SKX31 SKX31 's memes as fearmongering. It's just that eventually you gotta make fun of the salt you went through, you know?

Well, I guess I'll be the change that other people want to see in the world. Ahri's abilities (neatly shown here with visuals and everything) are as follows:
  • Essence Theft: A passive ability that heals her when using an ability after just hitting a certain ammount (in LoL's case, 9) of enemies. I dunno if they'd actually implement this since crowd control isn't always applicable in this game, and also that sounds pretty strong.
  • Orb of Deception: A simple boomerang shot that deals damage both forward and back, similar to Cross.
  • Fox-Fire: Ahri gains a short burst of movement speed, and fires three homing projectiles.
  • Charm: A straight shot projectile that causes the opponent to drop all actions and walk toward Ahri. While this is in effect, they will take more damage from her.
  • Spirit Rush: Ahri dashes forward Quick Attack style and fires a projectile when she's done. This can be used up to three times before triggering the cooldown.
I think what I got from this last time was that she'd be a fairly aggressive projectile character, and I think I still get why I thought that, though I can also see this becoming the opposite of that.
Yeah, that's the gist of it. She's a burst mage, which means her niche is chaining several spells together to take out a big chunk of health from the opponent.

Plus, her Essence Theft and Charm are pretty unique for Smash standards, and the former can even be called a staple of MOBAs, in a way.

Funny it picked him, because he's got a hook, another staple mechanic of MOBAs, in a way.

Oh, I know. C&C4 would be easier at killing that franchise than all MOBAs combined.

And the lore had... a LOT of unfortunate implications, from using what’s basically Skarner remains in her platform (I think that’s been retconned)
Okay, I don't know why but I'm really invested in her lore, I don't know much about Skarner because I thought he's a generic exp monster that you usually kill so I don't know what the fuss was all about that.

Oh, I was talking about that weird stuff the game’s creators did with a character. The game itself doesn’t interest me much for some reason, but some of the characters seem cool, and those entertaining cartoon ads they got youtubers(?) to do did make it kinda interesting at least I guess.

I think they were all YouTubers, though I can only confirm that Nevercake (the deprecating one with the buttery smooth voice) was indeed a YouTuber.

As much as I liked what I saw of Nevercake, I...really didn't like their League of Legends ads.
EDIT: And of course, the fact that I did watch some of their channel's stuff meant that I had to be subjected to it all the time.

I personally do not want League of Legends since when the Riot bus crashed a few years back at PAX East my friend could have been hurt since they were on the bus. The crash was not too bad but still.

That being said, I do think LoL has a solid shot of being in. It is extremely popular as an esport and just in general, even years later. It also is extremely popular in the Asian market, which could be a good idea for Nintendo if they want to expand more into that market. If I had to choose someone, probably Ahri since that is a name that I at least know. I also know Yasuo...but no one likes Yasuo and that's why I know it.

Damn that very well may be the most unique reason not to want a character I've ever seen. Glad your friend was ok but ****ing hell I can't imagine how scary that'd be

They made it out ok. Fun fact I would have been on that bus if I did not decide to go to the Dunkin Donuts nearby. Worst it did was shake them up for a bit and make them late to the line cue. But yeah, not the biggest fan of LoL for that at least.

Oh, we talking LoL ads now?

Feast your eyes on this masterpiece:

I still want to know where the hell did they take the cabbage roll guy from, because that's definitely not from League.
Apparently that's an original character made for LoL Advertisements. Also roll sounds like LoL in Japan, so I guess there's a pun aspect in there somewhere? (don't ask me why they chose cabbages though).

Oh yeah, that's her name. I actually forgot by this point. Since I haven't played that game in years since the 360.

Also, I see you are a Star of Destiny as well.
But I suck at Suikoden though, something called unlocking all the characters being a pain (Especially if certain characters are unlocked by speedrunning the game). Also, the experience gain is abysmal.

Besides agreeing fully here, I wanna expand on this point: it's best to tackle a MOBA game as part of a party (optimally 5 people, but 2-4 can also work provided you're not paired with a troll. Solo-queing is a lot more mixed) and treat it kinda like a WoW raid, but with human opponents. That's because The Greater Internet ****wad Theory is in full force when playing with randoms, and some will inevitably use that with little repercussions (unless they're banned or put in a separate queue, which all MOBAs have implemented in order to try and stem the problem).

It can be particularily highlighted when someones decides to only speak say their native language (outside of the accepted one like English). It's been a major issue in Dota 2 (and Valve's other big multiplayer title CS:GO), where memes about Russians abound:

It's simply because Dota 2 and CS:GO are popular there - CS:GO in particular is about as popular in Russia as CoD is the US. So you'll see a very similar proportion of ragers between CS:GO and CoD (cyka blyat is practically the Russian "ur mom") etc. Also, quoting an article from a Dota site:

Valve has set up a Russian server – why the hell aren’t all Russians playing on that server? Fact is, a lot of Russians have a worse ping on this server than on EU and US servers!

Why is that so?

The answer is, (one of )the Russian Dota 2 server is located in Stockholm, Sweden. Nordic countries have always had fantastic pings and internet connections, but Russia is big and even if it is the server for them, they have a relatively bad pingthere. [sic] So it’s understandable that they just test other servers and if it works better they play there permanently.
The vast majority of people playing online (regardless of nationality or language) are far, far from assholes. It's just that an asshole online - especially as a teammate - can be a major detriment, especially so when one doesn't understand the language spoken by the teammate. OTOH, winning a game despite a vocal asshole / troll can be a massive relief.

Crackpot Smash Ideas: Shulk now has the Monado Purge Art, which is a projectile attack that removes all buffs from the opponent that it hits. This includes buffs from items like the Super Leaf and Mega Mushroom, as well as the following character effects:
  • Tough Guy
  • Aura
  • Deep Breathing
  • Monado Arts
  • Limit
  • Belly Armour
  • Revenge
  • Arsene
  • Oomph
  • Psyche Up
  • Acceleratle
  • Giant (Hocus Pocus)
  • Invisible (Hocus Pocus)
  • Dragon ARM
  • One Winged form
Pretty good idea, but it's not like Shulk needs to be even more busted than he is lol

Otherwise it's a great idea.

However, allowing buffs on Shulk, but his main gimmick being buffs is y'know.. kind of cheating 😂

The completely real Eyebrow Theory states that each Fighter Pass will have one character with no eyebrows so logically the most likely League of Legends characters are the ones with no eyebrows. My 100% real source confirms this.
Actually, Steve doesn't have eyebrows so the eyebrowless LoL characters are disconfirmed.

I remember once seeing a pro Overwatch player (I think it was Seagull, don't quote me on that) basically argue that team-based Esports are inherently toxic, because unlike regular sports, you don't know any of the people in there and, since you don't have any ties to them and will likely never see them again (unless you're already in the highest elo), you end up not caring how you treat them. They're just another rando to you.

...Or at least that's how it works for a good segment of players.

As someone who's played both fighing games and MOBAs online... I kinda have to agree.

I mean, Veigar surely has eyebrows, but they're not visible, so it counts, right?

So in this essay I will state how Amaterasu has 0 moveset potential and thus, can never be added to Super Smash Bros. First off...
How dare you. This motivated me to create a B-button moveset for her just to prove you wrong. I am in no way falling into a trap by doing this, nor was I already creating this moveset.

Amaterasu is the protagonist of Ōkami. She's the goddess of the sun and mother to the other twelve Celestial Brush Gods. She travels the land in the form of a white wolf, fighting demons, helping people in need, learning the powers of the other Brush Gods, and cleansing the lands of Nippon from the curses put upon them by the forces of darkness. (She's also accompanied by Issun, a one-inch-tall guy who rides on her head and serves as her speaking voice. Y'know, 'cause wolves can't talk.)

Amaterasu is an aggressive, combo-oriented fighter. She's noticeably more agile on the ground than in the air, though not at all to Little Mac levels.

Her moves see her using the three types of Divine Instrument: a Reflector (a shield that flies like a close-range boomerang), a Rosary (a chain of beads she uses as a whip), and a Glaive (a glaive). The specific weapons of each type will actually change with each alt costume. After you perform a move with a certain weapon, that weapon will remain on her back until she uses another one, similar to how Pit works.

-- NEUTRAL SPECIAL: CELESTIAL BRUSH --

This is a little unconventional, but I want to begin with her specials. Specifically her neutral special, Celestial Brush. It's somewhat key to her gameplan, after all.

Upon hitting the B button, you'll lose control of Amaterasu, and instead control a brush with cursor-like movement. By holding A, you can draw on the screen. If you draw one of many specific patterns, you'll cause something to happen that depends on the pattern (called a Celestial Brush Technique). We'll go over all the CBTs... er, maybe we shouldn't call them that. We'll go over all the CB techniques later, but there's some details of this move I want to go over.

Above Ammy's damage meter are three ink pots. These serve as a cooldown for her Celestial Brush techniques. Each technique will expend one to three pots, which Ammy will gradually recover over time.

Earlier, I stated that you'll lose control of Amaterasu, but what exactly does that entail? Well, in Ōkami, time stopped completely while using the Brush, but that'd be crazy in a fighting game. Here, Amaterasu goes into slow-motion and sepia tone while using the Brush. If you use it in the middle of an attack, she'll still complete the move while you're drawing. Actually, some of her attacks get automatic followups while you're using the Brush. I'll call these "canvas combos". They'll keep you safe while using the Brush, or keep your opponent trapped in an attack. Note that canvas combos don't cover every angle of attack on Ammy, none of them end with heavy knockback, and all of them are quite unsafe if you end without performing a CB technique. So you'll have to use them smartly!

I went into this with the philosophy that if the Brush can do it in Ōkami, it'll do something in this game. I don't want Ōkami fans to have to remember which techniques are included. They should just do them the same way they've been doing 'em, even if they don't work the same way. The full list of techniques are:

  • BLIND: Not
  • SUNRISE: Draw a circle in the sky. Costs 2 pots of ink. The sun will remain in the sky for about twelve seconds. While it's there, all character's defense is increased. This will also change the time of day on Battlefield, Big Battlefield, Small Battlefield, Gaur Plain, Minecraft World, Smashville, and Town and City.
  • REJUVENATION: Fill in a missing or destroyed part of the stage. Costs 1 pot of ink. The missing element will come back. Works on basically any stage where things go away.
  • POWER SLASH: Draw a horizontal line across at least one damageable object. Costs 1 pot of ink. This creates a slashing attack with high knockback. It's one of your go-to moves, and is good for ending canvas combos.
  • BLOOM: Sub-technique of Greensprout. Draw a circle around a character. Costs 2 pots of ink. For about twelve seconds, that character's speed will be increased.
  • TREE SEED: Sub-technique of Bloom, a sub-technique of Greensprout. Draw dots on the ground. Costs 1 pot of ink. They'll sprout into trees that knock enemies upward, and stick around as brief (but easily-destroyed) walls.
  • WILDFLOWER: Sub-technique of Bloom, a sub-technique of Greensprout. Scribble on the ground. Costs 0 pots of ink. Wildflowers will sprout. Doesn't actually do anything.
  • WATER LILY: Sub-technique of Greensprout. Draw a circle on the water. Costs 1 pot of ink. Creates a temporary platform on top of the water.
  • VINE: Sub-technique of Greensprout. Draw a line from a ledge to a character. Costs 2 pots of ink. That character will be pulled toward the ledge by a vine.
  • CHERRY BOMB: Draw a circle with a line coming out of the top. Costs 1 pot of ink. Creates a bomb that rolls around. Attacking it will cause it to fly around like a crate. It will eventually explode. Unlike in Ōkami, it'll hurt Ammy.
  • WATERSPOUT: Draw a line from water or water-based hitboxes. Only gameplay-effecting water counts. Costs 1 pot of ink. The water will move along the path you drew, dealing damage to foes it hits. Powerful, but tricky to make work. Similar to Inferno, Thunderstorm, and Blizzard.
  • DELUGE: Sub-technique of Waterspout. Draw two vertical lines. Costs 2 pots of ink. Creates rain that causes a minor downward windbox, harming recovery attempts. Also starts the rain on Distant Planet.
  • FOUNTAIN: Sub-technique of Waterspout. Draw a swirl around a Mermaid Spring. It's too bad there aren't any of those in the game...
  • CRESCENT: Draw a curved arc in the sky. Costs 2 pots of ink. The moon will remain in the sky for about twelve seconds. While it's there, all character's defense is increased. This will also change the time of day on Battlefield, Big Battlefield, Small Battlefield, Gaur Plain, Minecraft World, Smashville, and Town and City.
  • GALESTORM: Draw a swirling loop or spiral. Costs 1 pot of ink. Creates a gust of wind in the direction and location of the brushstroke (spirals count as up). This makes a windbox that can aid or harm recoveries.
  • WHIRLWIND: Sub-technique of Galestorm. Draw three horizontal lines. Costs 2 pots of ink. Creates a small tornado around Amaterasu, which sends opponents up and does significant damage. Drawing the lines longer will make the attack more powerful but shorter.
  • INFERNO: Draw a line from fire or fire-based hitboxes. Only gameplay-effecting fire counts. Costs 1 pot of ink. The fire will move along the path you drew, and will drag enemies along it if it hits them (though it'll always do the same amount of damage and end by knocking them at the same angle). Similar to Waterspout, Thunderstorm, and Blizzard.
  • FIREBURST: Sub-technique of Inferno. Draw a lemniscate (∞). Costs 2 pots of ink. Summons a big ball of fire that does significant damage.
  • VEIL OF MIST: Draw two horizontal lines. Costs all 3 pots of ink. Slows down time for two seconds. Because of its cost, you can't use the Celestial Brush during this time.
  • MIST WARP: Sub-technique of Veil of Mist. Draw an X on an Ultimate Origin Mirror. It's too bad there aren't any of those in the game...
  • CATWALK: Scribble on a wall. Costs 1 pot of ink. For about 12 seconds, Amaterasu becomes able to cling to that wall like Sheik (among others) can. Probably not that useful.
  • THUNDERSTORM: Draw a line from electricity or electricity-based hitboxes. Only gameplay-effecting electricity counts. Costs 1 pot of ink. The electricity will move along the path you drew, dealing damage to foes it hits. Powerful, but tricky to make work. Similar to Waterspout, Inferno, and Blizzard.
  • THUNDERBOLT: Sub-technique of Thunderstorm. Draw a vertical zigzag. Costs 2 pots of ink. Summons significantly-damaging lighting.
  • BLIZZARD: Draw a line from ice or ice-based hitboxes. Only damaging ice or frozen opponents count. Costs 1 pot of ink. The ice will move along the path you drew, dealing damage to foes it hits. Powerful, but tricky to make work. Similar to Waterspout, Inferno, and Blizzard.
  • ICESTORM: Sub-technique of Blizzard. Draw an X with a line through it. Costs 2 pots of ink. Summons damaging, freezing shards of ice.

Wow, that's a lot!

Anyway, if there's only one Ammy in a match, the ink is black and the effect on Ammy is sepia-toned, like in Ōkami. If there's multiple, however, these effects will instead match the player color. P1 gets red ink, P2 gets blue, P3 gets yellow, P4 gets green, et cetera. This is just a visibility thing.

Oh, yeah! Since this is all a neutral special, Kirby can do all this stuff too! His ink is a pale rainbow color, and his copy hat gives him the coloration and markings of a Celestial Brush God.

-- SIDE SPECIAL: TSUMUGARI --

Compared to her monstrously complicated neutral special, her other specials are quite simple. She uses her Glaive (Tsumugari in her default costume) for a chargeable dash attack. In the air, she actually rides Tsumugari downward at an angle! The charge will continue while using the Celestial Brush, so you can use Icestorm (for example) to keep your opponent busy while you charge it.

-- UP SPECIAL: DEVOUT BEADS --

This move is an eight-directional recovery move that uses Amaterasu's Rosary (the Devout Beads in her default costume). It's a tether recovery, but it's actually not very effective - it's more useful as an attack than anything. Ammy's better off using Vine if she can spare the ink.

-- DOWN SPECIAL: DIVINE RETRIBUTION --

For this move, Ammy spins her Reflector (Divine Retribution in her default costume) in front of her. If an attack or projectile hits it, there'll be a great deal of freeze frames before Ammy retaliates or reflects it respectively. Yes, this is a counter move, don't kill me.

However, this move serves a greater purpose than just being "the thing the Reflector does". Waterspout, Inferno, Thunderstorm, and Blizzard require you to use specific elemental hitboxes. And yes, they're all basically identical to effectively give the same attack more things to activate it with, but even so, how are you supposed to catch Roy's sword or a Water Shuriken with your brush? That's where this move comes in. You can use the large amount of freeze frames on this attack to activate the Celestial Brush and draw a line from whatever it is that hit you.

-- FINAL SMASH: GREAT DIVINE INTERVENTION --

The background changes to that of a cursed zone, and a withered Guardian Sapling rises from the bottom of the screen in the background. During this phase of the attack, all fighters take constant damage, even Ammy herself.

Once you've had enough, you can then draw a circle on the Guardian Sapling to bloom it. Restored to life, its energy will dispel the cursed zone and cause flowers and life to surge out from it, damaging your opponents and pushing them toward the edges of the screen.

Thats not the point. Those people want a LTTP Ganon for the sole reason of moveset, since Ganondorf is so disappointing.
That's cool and all, but I'd rather they just FIX Ganondorf, than waste a slot on a 2nd Ganon.

Strange, I never bolded any of my letters.
No, I bolded them to show which ones I think have a chance.

Ganon is cool, but I want a Zelda newcomer. Not a newcomer, NEWcomer. Like goddamn, it's been two decades since we've had a fresh face, just give me Tingle or something that isn't the equivalent of Dr. Link since they don't want to give each of the green bois standout features.
