Today in 2003, Tales of Symphonia went on sale! Lloyd Irving dual wields swords because of the theory that if one sword gives someone 100% power, two swords have 200% power. Mii Fighters cannot dual wield swords by default, so please bring an item...

I've seen a lot less Crash talk lately. Have people given up on him? And what characters are currently speculated? I'm a little bit out of the loop.

Aren't you forgetting a certain somebody?
Lloyd Irving was last seen being thrown into a volcano...

Let's just say a LOT has happened for Crash... and not all of it is good...

The Activision/Blizzard thing has... made things awkward.

It's been said twice already, but sad as it is to admit, the whole worsening situations for Activision have made a number of people actively not want Crash anymore.

As for which character people are convinced is a lock now... well, I'm as out of the loop as you, so I can't really say for certain. Still gonna stan for a Senran Kagura rep, though (albeit in a respectful way).

Currently? Cthulhu and Sakurai´s cat. I dont think there is anything that people consider highly likely.

Ah that's a shame. As terrible as the situation with Activision is, people should stop blaming everyone that works at Activision for this. There's plenty of great people working on the Crash games that probably want him as much as they do. It's not like they can control what company owns Crash.

I mean, people working at Activision was the problem.
Not everyone that works at Activision though. Toys for bob is subsidiary of activision that had nothing to do with this. Crash hasn't even been owned by activision for that long.

All I'm saying is it's fine to get mad, just get mad at the right people.

Hasn’t Crash been owned by Activision for like 15 years now? That’s a long time.

lol activision controversy has nothing to do with crash in smash tf
It doesn’t but it’s played a part in why he’s not talked about as much currently. The other reason being the doom sayers who say we’re getting a disappointing finale.

I don’t really know what to expect personally. Speculation’s really dried up since like a week after Kazuya’s presentation. It’s sort of sad that there isn’t a lot of hype or craziness going into the final character. Hopefully it’ll be someone who’ll give us one last dose of hype before Smash goes into hibernation again.

Part of it's a lack of any real, credible leaks.

Part of it's uncertainty when the Direct falls.

And the last part's genuine burnout.

Come the actual Direct announcement, people will be freaking.

Yeah, I’m a bit in a burned out state, so it makes sense others are. Especially since there’s only one character left so it’s not as fun to think about anymore.

I’ve been more focused on playing the game itself & the competitive side. The #FreeMvC2 movement’s got me thinking about potential MvC4 rosters too when I’m bored at work lmao

Ditto. I've been occupying myself with SFM and Blender lately. One of these days I'd like to put a HWM Model out on the Workshop. In fact, I might share one I've got in the works on the social thread tomorrow.

So considering that the fourth and final part of the Sakurai interview with Harada will be next Saturday (Not sure why I assumed there were only three, maybe someone suggested it in passing?), the new Warioware being pushed hard releasing on the 10th, and the general pattern of Nintendo Directs falling on the earlier side of the week, I think we can safely assume that the September direct will most likely occur on the 6th-8th. Maybe the 9th at the absolute latest. Which leaves about 10-12 days before we all know for sure who the final fighter is.

Kinda wish Shantae would do that as well, like Ninjara did
None of the base game spirit battles do this with their corresponding Mii costume. Ninjara is a base game spirit, but he didn't get an actual spirit battle until the ARMS DLC spirit board, so he isn't really an exception.

#FreeMvC2 is a thing now? What went down? Sounds like something Disney would do but I wouldn't put it past modern day Capcom to be the instigator considering that "leak" that happened last year, among other things.

Nothing bad really happened, but MVC2's last release was in 2009 for seventh-gen consoles, and it's been taken down years ago due to Capcom losing the license for Marvel characters in that game. Again. So basically those following #FreeMVC2 just want it to be released on newer systems.

I see. I was assuming this was in the same vein as #SaveSmash but apparently not. But again, modern day Disney/Capcom. Careful with that monkey's paw you got there.

I do think the 2nd week of September is fairly likely, but I also don't think the Harada's Bar thing has anything to do with it tbh.

Well I'm sure it would be sold temporarily due to licensing, but I don't think they could really do much to ruin a port of the game unless it was super crappy, which...I suppose that could happen, but I wouldn't say it's likely enough for us to feel the need to worry. Capcom's fighting game ports have been fine so far right?

I also don't think the factors that hurt MvCI would be in play here either since Disney isn't avoiding X-Men and Fantastic Four characters like the plague anymore.

Yeah it definitely feels like Ultimate is winding down which is sad. Fake leaks aren't even popping up anymore really.
Hell, we had one of the more well-known leakers say Master Chief was coming and then he just went radio silent after he was wrong.

I'd love to see the game go out with a bang though. Someone as big as Master Chief would really end things on a high note.

Vergeben's fall from grace will go down in Smash Leak history.

Honestly, I think Disney's more at fault here. Capcom has been pretty good in recent years, what with Mega Man's revival, the runaway success of Monster Hunter, and a lot of other little bits and bobs here and there (based on what I've seen, of course, my Capcom library is scarce).

Even if there is a Nintendo Direct in September I can guarantee y'all there won't be the final smash character announcement.
At most it'll reveal the date of the last Smash presentation (people really thinking we're getting the last fighter revealed in a simple regular ND?? Get outtta here...)

The right to produce/sell more copies of a licensed game can just...expire after a few years, Disney or not. It happened previously with the PS2/original Xbox version of MVC2 and that was pre-Disney.

In the Direct or the final Smash presentation, it really doesn't matter tbh. It could have a final Smash presentation, but this also isn't Smash 4 where we had 2 characters and 3 movesets to show off, it'll just be a single character.

I kinda think people are putting a little more stock into this being 'the end' moreso than Nintendo probably is.

Which is exactly where I think the problem lies, now that you mention it. Considering Marvel's now under direct supervision that led to MvC:I suffering from the countless faults it did (that's a whole other layer of this issue), an MVC2 rerelease is extremely likely to be an uphill battle.
Y'know, assuming MvC:I actually had some part in this whole debacle. Thanks for telling me about those releases!

I don't see how that's impossible. They managed to reveal their characters in a three-four months delay each time. And the September Direct has been pretty great these past four years.
Plus nothing indicates that they really want to make the final reveal a huge event, it's just one character after all. They already didn't make a big deal out of Kazuya, sending him at the beginning of the E3 direct.
Of course I can be wrong and they really plan on making the next reveal on a separate and specific occasion, but more often than not it didn't happen.
