to be fair, paper Mario with a moveset made up form sticker star, colour splash and origami king woudnt be a bad idea.
The problem with doing so is that most of the Stickers and Cards are just random items and Power Ups; If you used too many of them it would look incoherent due to the lack of context. It's the same reason why Mario's moveset doesn't really use Power Ups either.

I would keep the Stickers/Cards to a single Special Move. Well, that and the Final Smash. The Star Powers are fun, but they ain't got nuthin' on the Thing Stickers/Cards in terms of visuals.

Well...there are also the Valmentals, but they're also pretty meh in terms of visuals.

That, or, go with 100m; the one that already sort of looks like a Smash stage
I'd go with 25 m since it means there aren't ladders abound for no reason. Otherwise I like the layout.

The philosophy behind 75m is probably that Sakurai wanted a chaotic stage.

Some stages are just designed to be chaotic messes. There is fun to be had with madness on occasion.

It's not the best example of that in Smash (Spear Pillar ftw) but its probably the reason.

would do anything for dimentio’s theme, o chunks theme, count blecks theme, super paper Mario’s final battle theme, that disco vibe theme from TTYD in space, TTYD final battle theme, 2nd phase of colour splash’s final boss etc. Missed opportunity
Speaking of missed opportunities...

Am I the only guy who thought this would've been a better pick for Little Mac's Smash Bros. appearance?
Little Mac ''Right on!''.jpg

People say that Super Punch-Out!! is non-canon, but come on: there's a way that the developers of Punch-Out!! Wii could've make it canon by ACTUALLY EXPLAINING why Little Mac looked so different in the SNES Super Punch-Out!! instead of saying "The SNES Little Mac isn't Little Mac." That excuse was just out-right stupid (much like how said developers of Punch-Out!! Wii turned Aran Ryan from a fair fighter into a FREAKING PSYCHOPATH WHO BROUGHT A FLAIL INTO THE RING). They could've said that Little Mac bleached his hair and had it grow out a little bit while also getting different boxing trunks for crying out loud!

Also, Super Punch-Out!! could've used some songs in Smash Bros. as well (mainly Minor Circuit & Special Circuit).

Possibly yes.

Super Punch Out Mac looks.... off. His face just does not translate into 3D at all.

(much like how said developers of Punch-Out!! Wii turned Aran Ryan from a fair fighter into a FREAKING PSYCHOPATH WHO BROUGHT A FLAIL INTO THE RING).
They took one of the most boring boxers and turned him into one of the most popular.

It was a good idea.

But that's what made Aran Ryan fun.

Beforehand, he was just a boring dude.

True. Though knowing Nintendo, they could at least make it match the debut game if they ever were to bring SNES Little Mac back.

On paper, YES.

In the execution... just no.

Yes. Mac's appearance was pretty much cemented by Wii Punch-Out. They made the obvious correct choice with that one.

Agree.

He was Pizza Pasta with a different face.

Man, but they DO need to make a sequel to Wii Punch-Out that brings back all the SPO characters.

I don't think that would have been a good idea but it could have been an alternate costume.

...

I don't think his original design was to blame for this monstrosity of a 3D model.

How?

Aran Ryan is beloved by almost every Punch Out!! fan now.

People love him.
People love him now because he's just been turned into a meme worthy psychopath who mocks Mac and has a total of 21 infractions (according to the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combat Sports). In the SNES Super Punch-Out, he has no rule infractions what-so-ever and plays fair and square. HE EVEN COMPLIMENTS MAC IN THE CREDITS OF THE SNES GAME! What the heck happened during the transition from Super Punch-Out!! to Punch-Out!! Wii?!

They took a bland character and made him unique.

Punch Out Wii is a reboot effectively. Aran Ryan really had nothing to make him stand out as a character. Compared to Super's cast of WACKY characters, he was frankly boring.

''IT'S OVER NINE THOUUUUUSAAAAAAAAAAAAND!!!''.jpg

That STILL doesn't answer my question!

It's a reboot, yes. But in his debut game Aran was so nice to Little Mac! Why did they have to give him the Yami Marik treatment and make him a psychopath?!

If you're looking for a lore reason, there probably isn't one. They re-made Aran to be a heel.

There's no Punch Out timeline or anything, in Punch Out Wii, Super never happened.

The devs probably just wanted to take a boring character and do more than just "IRISH STEREOTYPES."

I'd really love to see a Super Punch-Out!! on the Switch, come to think of it. Having it be to the SNES' Super Punch-Out!! what the Wii game was to MTPO. Of course, the Wii game took cues from other entries in the series, such as the current point of discussion. Such a Switch title could do the same, perhaps even including Alice & Ape III as an opponent? IDK. Anything PO-related would be nifty.

Actually I think they went "MOAR IRISH STEREOTYPES!!!" since IIRC, being super violent is one of them, and Aran Ryan is definitely that.

A lot of PUNCH-OUT!!'s characters are just "the character, but we lean even harder into the stereotypes", so it wouldn't surprise me.

Well... looks like I've found someone else who's watched the Harrison Ford movie "Patriot Games".

They could have King K. Rool replace Donkey Kong as the secret opponent.

Or an ARMS character. That could be pretty interesting as well. Imagine they just wrap their ARM around Little Mac, and then punch him in the face.

Maybe Bowser Jr. and Villager could get in on the action too. lol

Well... looks like I've found someone else who's watched the Harrison Ford movie "Patriot Games".
Nope never heard of it.

EDIT: I just remember seeing memes about the stereotype.

I always thought SPU Mac looked oddly like a Toriyama character (specifically Trunks, I wish I could explain.)
Well I mean...he is wearing trunks. :4pacman:

But yeah, his hair does look like Trunk's hair when he starts to go Super Sayian.

The following is meant as a joke:

Ah, yes, the superior Aryan model! You can tell his superiority over his Mediterranean counter part in the manner of his skull. Raised cheekbones indicate a stronger and more robust jawline, great for absorbing more cross jabs. Then there is the circumference of his cranium indicating greater intelligence than the Soutthern European model. The skull is larger no doubt due to generations of Norman forebearers having to brave the cold forests of Germania and beyond relaying on their wits and brute strength over speed and agility required for warning climates. A great display of Darwinism if I dare say so myself.

Oh no! I just missed the best character discussion ever! The Paper Mario discussion. How could it be that I missed the chance to talk about how much I like him?

Well too bad. You're not allowed anymore. We'll have to talk about Mario & Luigi instead.

Mario & Luigi as a new Ice Climber style duo when?

I'm joking of course, but I'd also be into the Mario & Luigi idea.
