SO. In honor of the Pogey Man Direct being announced for Wednesday, I'm gonna pitch... FIVE, count em FIVE... playable Pogey Man ideas that AREN'T starters! It's Friday the 13th, so surely this will trigger somebody.
These five Pogey Men, what if they were in Smash Bros:
1. Gengar. He's been discussed a bunch but like... imagine not only playable Gengar, but a playable Gengar... IN HONOR OF NEW POKEMON SNAP! So the trailer just shows a bunch of Smash footage, then it pauses and does the photo camera feature of Smash... but something's not right! There's something coming out of the ground! IT'S GENGAR! Gengar would be a bit like Wario with a bunch of stun attacks! Like he'd Astonish and Lick and it would cause paralysis which would allow for a followup attack! Gengar himself is faster than his stocky look might lead you to believe and is actually a bit easier to launch than you might think too... but don't let him stun and launch you because he will LAUNCH you hahaha! Kinda reps SWSH a bit too if he goes full Gigantamax for the Final Smash with the big gaping mouth! Gengar being the ultimate hit and run glass cannon fighter, paralysis moves, sinking into the floor, all that.
2. Kecleon. Another variant of a "New Pokemon Snap Fighter". Trailer being similar to the Gengar one except the "something wrong with this photo" bit... is a red zigzag! YES, IT'S KECLEON! Kecleon is also a bit of a trickster fighter, but he's more like Wii Fit Trainer in that there are attacks where he can attack in two directions at once! Like... an aerial attack and a down Smash where he both unfurls his tail and lashes his tongue at the same time. He also has attacks you might not immediately think he'd have, like Flamethrower and Ancient Power and such, making him a jack of all trades... but he has two REAL gimmicks: One: He can indeed turn invisible save for the zigzag! What direction is he facing? Can you see the tongue and tail coming? Are you in range of a Flamethrower? You may never know until the camo wears off. Two, he's got a defense gimmick! Like stale move negation on steroids, if you keep hitting him with the same kinds of attacks in succession, he'll build up defense to it until you use a different kind of attack and reset his "defense". Like if one sword user smashes him off into the air and another sword user whacks him again, and then he gets caught in a flurry of sword attacks... he's gonna have a lot of defense against sword attacks. Better shoot im if you wanna reset him.
3. Clefairy. A floaty little fighter with a very random Metronome. It TECHNICALLY has way more special moves than anyone else because every time it uses Metronome, it produces a different random effect. Kinda like Hero but you have to rely on luck instead of directly select the move.
4. Rhyperior. In honor of BDSP (which sounds dirtier and dirtier every time I read that abbreviation), it's RHYPERIOR, a huge tank character with a long range moveset! It can either do a good solid shot with Rock Blast or it can go for the combo by launching a Geodude at them so it can latch onto them and punch them. Pull out the huge Rock Wrecker for the Final Smash. He's really heavy and has super armor but he is also pretty slow for movement. He hits HARD but can BE hit quite a lot! An embodiment of pure brute force from a distance!
5. Zygarde. Yes, Zygarde, albeit in his 10% form. The core enters the stage and the cells form around it forming the canine 10% form for the entrance animation. Zygarde has a speedy, dog like fighting style with Zygarde's signature moves Thousand Arrows for a wide range B projectile, Thousand Waves for down b, Land's Wrath for Side B, an up and back down recovery move with Bulldoze, in addition to running around with dog-like attacks with Ground type earth power thrown in... but for the FINAL SMASH, a MASS of Zygarde Cells form around Zygarde to form none other than the COMPLETE Zygarde, who launches the Core Enforcer before breaking apart back down to the doglike 10% again.
Those are five pretty neato Pogey Men if you ask me!
