wouldn’t layton be a swordfighter? Thinking of that Jean Descole scene.
no. He’d probably use a sword for his side smash attack but that’s it. Think of it as a brawler who picks up the bat when using items. I’m not good with game terms.

The rest of his move set would be based around puzzles.

B button would be the coin gun.

side B would be the magnifier hand.

down B would be the animals.

up smash would be the exclamation point

down smash would be the ABCD puzzle where Layton can just press all the answers quickly in a row

up B would be his glider from CV or AZ

thats without fitting in the camera, the azran eggs, the miracle mask’s mask and other puzzle elements of the game

A new Pokémon Presents was announced for next week.

There was a problem fetching the tweet

This probably lowers the chances of a stand-alone Smash Direct in August (something that I didn't expect but I saw some people speculate that it may happen after all that mess with 2018 Direct).
Please give us Sinnohan forms! Regional variants are cool and I would love to see them given to an old region. It's a shame that BDSP is so 1-1, because it makes me feel like we won't get them, but I can hope.

To be fair, TPC has pretty much danced to the beat of their own drum as far as announcements go.

If we're getting all these announcements in a row, though, next month is looking good for a General Direct.

Based on Rie's comment I just went back and checked

There was in fact a Pokemon Presents exactly 5 days before Min Min's reveal. And another one 3 days after the Min Min reveal.

August 23rd, anyone? lol (Monday btw if you're curious).

I pray there’s no Pokémon legends and Pokémon BDSP news in the Pokémon direct so that it makes that random 4chan leak look legit. Will do anything to see curious village on the switch.

Hey everyone, been a long time since I've posted but been checking as a guest every now and again.
Nintendo basically gave SNK 50 music tracks and gave a total of three spirits promotions to fighters. I'd say most of the logic is thrown out the window at this point (the only logic remaining standing are that characters are only able to join Smash if they originated from video games).
I don't think that's quite how it works... Just because one piece of logic is thrown out doesn't mean the rest of it is suddenly out the window. It's a bit of a broad generalization too. If we want to say Nintendo would be fine including fan-made content then surely Sakurai's quotes about characters not originating from video games suddenly doesn't hold much water too right? Pretty much if there is one thing that we can establish, it's that anything fan made coming into smash is less likely than even non VG characters joining. The takedown you mentioned of SMZ pretty much correlates to why it won't happen. It's people using content and such they made and that is all licensed. From a business perspective, which is the one and only perspective Nintendo is going to comply to, they aren't going to acknowledge fan-made content with anything besides a cease and desist, under the assumption it's using things which they own and have licensed. Spirits deconfirming was nothing more than an indicator... It was true, but the few people who thought that would carry over into Volume 2 were the same people who took the idea way too seriously to begin with. This may have been a joke tho, but the build-up in terms of replies makes me skeptical. If it was a joke, ignore what I said.

So, Pokémon Presents next week and I presume a Direct would be the next info dump in line after that. Even if it won't happen this month, September is only a few weeks away which is when most believe a Direct would occur. Getting closer and closer.

I think Legends: Arceus would be the more likely game to have any sort of (regional) forms, be it some past Sinnohan forms or whatever.

For FP11 there’s been lots of talks from people that they think it will be third party and then there’s lots of talks from people that they think it will be 1st party but what if it’s not that. What if it meets in the middle ground.

By this what I mean is what if it’s a third party franchise/series that Nintendo itself treats as first party. A franchise who’s whole legacy is basically on Nintendo consoles only but is third party.

If it is what options are there.

We’re missing that 3rd party “legacy” character where their whole legacy is based off Nintendo consoles. We got banjo for that in the first pass but that’s a bit debatable since the originals can be played on the Xbox and they had a new game on Xbox that isn’t even on Nintendo consoles.

I haven’t been keeping up with this thread today, what’s making everyone think we’re getting a direct or Smash announcement so soon? I assumed it was still a ways off due to Sakurai’s comment.

-This one is likely stretching it, but during the Sonic Central back in May, the presenter stated to “look forward to more crossovers throughout the year”, correct me if I’m wrong, but we’ve basically received no new crossovers since the ones that were already announced in that presentation, it’d be the perfect opportunity for them to announce another Sonic rep in Smash.
Besides the Super Monkey Ball crossover they recently announced, there was also a Two Point Hospital collab

And Sonic was recently announced to appear in Shin Megami Tensei Dx2, the mobile game

So yeah, Sonic has been doing some new crossovers. Sonic Fighters is also a minigame in the upcoming Lost Judgment (made by the Yakuza staff).

Wasn’t the Min Min reveal direct in close proximity to a Pokémon Presents?
Yeah, actually - it's partly down to there being two Presents at that time, but still:

6/17: The first Pokemon Presents
6/22: Min Min's reveal and resulting Sakurai Presents
6/24: Second Presents, Pokemon Unite's reveal

While a Sakurai Presents is certainly possible in August (and also, it's possible that it's close to the upcoming Pokemon Presents based on precedence) I'm not gonna hard-commit to that possibility - it's also possible that the reveal is tied to the hypotheoretical Direct (whether in September or some other time). We'll just have to see.

I started playing TWEWY emulated out of boredom and man, I can see why people want this in Smash. It’s like they invented the perfect game setting for Nomura designs to exist inside. The timing seems perfect too. The sequel came out a few(?) months ago, the final fighter’s reveal is probably in a month or so… like a repeat of Byleth and Corrin, but not infuriating.
People will be mad about a shill pick until either Neku or Rindo use a Psychokinesis Pin and chuck a car at Mario.

Or at least bring megas back into the game.

Yes, in the first trailer, there is a whitish blue rhyhorn so, yes, there is variants on legends arceus.

In regards to the Pokemon direct, there is a correlation. For context, the average gap between and indie direct and September direct is 3-4 weeks maximum, and the gap for Pokemon and general directs usually are 1-2 weeks max. The current date based on these parameters is September the 1st.

🤔

So Simon Belmont and Mega Man were both 3rd party mascots that owed their popularity to the nes. They're even featured in the old Captain N cartoon... So if we're looking for powerful examples that still aren't in Smash, who were created by 3rd party companies but whose major exposure was exclusively Nintendo's doing.... We're down to

Ryu Hayabusa, Rayman, Professor Layton, Bomberman... not sure who else...

In that case let Mario use a realistic pistol for his final smash

Honestly, Neku and Rindo very well may be the characters with the most moveset potentials who've yet to be playable, I'm pretty sure you can give the two like 5 different movesets that share no moves and you'd still have other things you can incorporate

The only issue with Neku and Rindo now that I’ve beaten NEO is that my only Final Smash ideas for either of them… are spoilers

if both Neku and Rindo are separate characters and they get different final smashes and they’re THOSE attacks, if Neku has his NEO appearance as an alt they may have to replace him with Minamimoto who canonically isn’t controllable in the final battle

…or they’ll just be **** it

OR Rindo’s a Neku alt a la Alph and he gets the Omnislash Ver. 5 treatment with his different FS

There's been so much suspicious activity in a tight timeframe, the vanishing direct, the Kirby website's meltdown ect., that it certainly seems like news is near. It's really just a matter of whether it ends up being this month or next month; the latter of which was a pretty safe bet even before these occurrences.
I don't think this Pokémon Presents has any bearing on that, though; they've always done things on their own schedule.

Pokémon presents if good news because a general direct is likely very soon and there won’t be too much pokémon stuff there, so they can use that time for other announcements.

So, what do you think, they will announced the last fighter as the opening announcement or will be the last one? The last three CPs were at the beginning (Sephiroth opens TGA, Pyra/Mythra February Direct and Kazuya E3 Direct) but well, this is the last CP and its maybe something special for some of us.

We won’t be waiting till the TGA’s for the announcement. Even if it’s not in this upcoming direct. That’s like 4 months away and when it hits September it’ll be like 2 months since kazuya.

Not only that, they’d have to have FP11’s presentation and have them released within the next 2 weeks after the announcement otherwise they’d probably be going over their end date that they set in 2019.

Going with either an announcement for a smash direct in the September direct which will take place the following week or FP11’s announcement

If it’s neither then an October announcement

Yeah see I honestly had to look up everyone besides Ninja Gaiden because I didn't play a ton of NES really until like 95 when snes was getting huge. So I missed some good titles...

Thinking more on it though TMNT actually did gangbusters in NA with over 4 million sells and then the sequels/ports of arcade titles (Manhattan Project was badass!).

So Mikey for Smash pls.

I would unironically love to see the TMNT in Smash. I’ve been a huge fan since I was a kid in the late 80’s and they have had tons of very influential games. If I could pick any non video game character to get in, they would be near the top of the list. Since they aren’t eligible, I think the closest we can hope for are the Battletoads (who my brother loves even more than TMNT).

If Pokemon - General Directs are any patterns to go by we should potentially expect the final fighter revealed in the beginning of September.

Haha so when I was a senior in high school you were in 5th grade or so... the Golden Years of cartoons. TMNT, Batman: The Animated Series, The Real Ghostbusters... But yeah I know they didn't originally come from a video game so it's prolly unlikely but I think a TMNT rep would be great.

Most likely 3rd party candidates for being revealed in a September direct would be

1) an M rated character since the directs are rated RP-M so

Or

2) a third party that’s Nintendo exclusive or it’s legacy is on Nintendo platforms.

I don’t know if I could see a full on third party who’s legacy isn’t fully on Nintendo being revealed in a direct. Feels more of a stand alone smash direct type reveal or a big show announcement like the TGA or TTGS

Aren't we already getting that with Nick: All-Stars Brawl?

Just play that when it comes out.

At least you can play as the TMNT in Nickelodeon allstar brawl. That's close enough, right?

SO. In honor of the Pogey Man Direct being announced for Wednesday, I'm gonna pitch... FIVE, count em FIVE... playable Pogey Man ideas that AREN'T starters! It's Friday the 13th, so surely this will trigger somebody.

These five Pogey Men, what if they were in Smash Bros:

1. Gengar. He's been discussed a bunch but like... imagine not only playable Gengar, but a playable Gengar... IN HONOR OF NEW POKEMON SNAP! So the trailer just shows a bunch of Smash footage, then it pauses and does the photo camera feature of Smash... but something's not right! There's something coming out of the ground! IT'S GENGAR! Gengar would be a bit like Wario with a bunch of stun attacks! Like he'd Astonish and Lick and it would cause paralysis which would allow for a followup attack! Gengar himself is faster than his stocky look might lead you to believe and is actually a bit easier to launch than you might think too... but don't let him stun and launch you because he will LAUNCH you hahaha! Kinda reps SWSH a bit too if he goes full Gigantamax for the Final Smash with the big gaping mouth! Gengar being the ultimate hit and run glass cannon fighter, paralysis moves, sinking into the floor, all that.

2. Kecleon. Another variant of a "New Pokemon Snap Fighter". Trailer being similar to the Gengar one except the "something wrong with this photo" bit... is a red zigzag! YES, IT'S KECLEON! Kecleon is also a bit of a trickster fighter, but he's more like Wii Fit Trainer in that there are attacks where he can attack in two directions at once! Like... an aerial attack and a down Smash where he both unfurls his tail and lashes his tongue at the same time. He also has attacks you might not immediately think he'd have, like Flamethrower and Ancient Power and such, making him a jack of all trades... but he has two REAL gimmicks: One: He can indeed turn invisible save for the zigzag! What direction is he facing? Can you see the tongue and tail coming? Are you in range of a Flamethrower? You may never know until the camo wears off. Two, he's got a defense gimmick! Like stale move negation on steroids, if you keep hitting him with the same kinds of attacks in succession, he'll build up defense to it until you use a different kind of attack and reset his "defense". Like if one sword user smashes him off into the air and another sword user whacks him again, and then he gets caught in a flurry of sword attacks... he's gonna have a lot of defense against sword attacks. Better shoot im if you wanna reset him.

3. Clefairy. A floaty little fighter with a very random Metronome. It TECHNICALLY has way more special moves than anyone else because every time it uses Metronome, it produces a different random effect. Kinda like Hero but you have to rely on luck instead of directly select the move.

4. Rhyperior. In honor of BDSP (which sounds dirtier and dirtier every time I read that abbreviation), it's RHYPERIOR, a huge tank character with a long range moveset! It can either do a good solid shot with Rock Blast or it can go for the combo by launching a Geodude at them so it can latch onto them and punch them. Pull out the huge Rock Wrecker for the Final Smash. He's really heavy and has super armor but he is also pretty slow for movement. He hits HARD but can BE hit quite a lot! An embodiment of pure brute force from a distance!

5. Zygarde. Yes, Zygarde, albeit in his 10% form. The core enters the stage and the cells form around it forming the canine 10% form for the entrance animation. Zygarde has a speedy, dog like fighting style with Zygarde's signature moves Thousand Arrows for a wide range B projectile, Thousand Waves for down b, Land's Wrath for Side B, an up and back down recovery move with Bulldoze, in addition to running around with dog-like attacks with Ground type earth power thrown in... but for the FINAL SMASH, a MASS of Zygarde Cells form around Zygarde to form none other than the COMPLETE Zygarde, who launches the Core Enforcer before breaking apart back down to the doglike 10% again.

Those are five pretty neato Pogey Men if you ask me!
