Dovahkiin would be a based E3 Smash reveal too
I think there's a solid case to be made for Dovahkiin as the star of one of the biggest games of the last decade that reached monumental worldwide success, has a presence on Switch that Nintendo seemed to be really excited about, etc.

The major downside is that we got the Vault Boy costume earlier in FP2, which would have made more sense to save until we got a Bethesda character proper rather than dropping randomly alongside Min Min. But who knows, really. Let's just say there are many characters I'd be far more surprised to see than Dovahkiin, especially from the perspective of "western picks" I think he stands out.

AND Minecraft players loved it.

Y'all look at this for me real quick:

Anytime someone says "Steve wasn't what anyone wanted!" I'm gonna just link to Failboat's reaction:

Minecraft is a super beloved game, and the overlap with Nintendo's audience that it has is huge.

Kinda disappointed we're still seeing narratives about how it wasn't a huge deal for Smash being spun, but to each their own, I guess.

Did you miss the part where Metal Gear Solid is in Smash?
Angels and demons literally getting tortured and torn apart by a witch that strips to attack? Perfectly fine for kids.
Underage girl in has multiple bombs planted in her and tries to have them surgically removed in a really disturbing scene? Kids love it.
Funny tiny aliens with squeaky voices that bleed blue when shot? Adult Only.

That's grade A shooter machismo bs straight from the 360/PS3 generation.

Who knows indeed.
Speaking of Bethesda, maybe these Doomguy in Smash rumors could have been true the whole times, but it could also mean he gets Mii'd.

Exciting stuff.

All of the leakers and Youtubers are pushing Crash right now:

Thoughts? I hope they are not setting everyone's hopes up to only be dashed again.
They are, and no LEGITMATE leakers are saying Crash is in.

I said it earlier but, point out a SINGLE time a third party company has teased their characters inclusion in Smash Bros. before the reveal. You can't, because they don't. That thing with Crash Twitter is at best a coincidence, and at worst a cynical attempt to bait Smash fans because there is no way they don't know people are on their knees begging for Crash to join Smash Bros, so why not make it look like they're hinting at something just to get a few more clicks as they gear up for the actual announcement they're going to make.

And if it IS deliberate teases they would be a hit against Crash, same with the voice actors winking and nudging about the secret project being Smash-related Nintendo would never let them be that brazen about it. Grant Kirkhope had to deflect the entire time.

Also, that Activision Five Year Plan thing? I'm sorry, but I have an extremely hard time believing it. I don't doubt it's existence since it first came along around 2018, but the contents of it were never told to us until 2020, and everything on there were things we already knew about except for Crash in Smash. It sounds more like some guy just made up a list of things we already knew and stuck Crash Smash on there just to get attention.

Call me a jaded grump, but there's no real evidence that Crash is getting in besides gut feelings and "It just makes sense!", and I say this as someone who WANTS Crash on the roster.

I'm hoping that Legends Arceus doesn't go copypaste with all the characters and we see some original-looking characters, but Cynthia getting a Legends version or a very similar version is a guarantee with how frickin' popular she is.
I feel similarly. Having no new characters and just copy-paste wouldn't be great. And yeah, Cynthia is pretty much guaranteed to be in since she's so popular, though it would make snese for her ancestor to be a part of the plot too. For a quick explanation, the starters could represent the 3 forces that united to take over Hokkaido (if I'm not mistaken), and since Cynthia's family seems like it could be an ancient and important one, we could have Cynthia as a key player, maybe even as the antagonist, which would be amazing. And of the fan depictions I saw so far, I must say that my favorite has to be Cynthia as a Shogun, since she looks incredibly cool in that one fan interpretation

Halo is like one of the most non-M M-rated games ever made.

Like, for real, it's super tame. I don't think it's anywhere near too mature for Smash, lol.
I don't think the argument is that it's too mature for Smash but rather that Halo fans are all adults that will see Smash as kiddy and therefore there's no possible overlap or appeal.

Which is still absurd because aside from all the M-rated franchises whose fans totally loved their characters getting into Smash, it's a known factor that the average Nintendo fan is like, 30?

Also, Blocked Content's last video:

99% sure this is fake, but Dovakhiin as a Bethesda rep over Doomguy? I mean, I wouldn't be 100% mad, fact that'd be awesome, but RIP Doomguy in that case.
A reminder we did get Fallout guy as a mii. Could that be an indication of Dovahkiin being our big reveal and that Nintendo and Bethesda worked out a deal?

Something to consider and keep in mind.

Moreover this argument would hold a lot more water if Ultimate wasn't on a console that's done gangbusters business and (unlike the Wii) one whose major success isn't just thanks to casual gamers buying the console en masse.

Basically there's likely a lot of people that own some sort of Xbox with Halo on it and own a Switch that would love to see MC pop up in Smash.

Nintendo's audience is everybody. They specifically design their games to be appealing to as many age demographics as possible, with very few exceptions.

As such, yeah, I think there's definitely an audience for Master Chief in Smash. This narrative that people would be offended is suuuuuper silly.

Imagine if the Dovakhiin trailer starts with the "You're finally awake" scene but it's Captain Falcon saying it.
I was wondering about who they'd use as a stand-in for the dragon that obviously would feature in the Dovahkiin trailer. Charizard and Rathalos seems obvious, though I could see Ridley being the one if they wanted a closer parallel with Alduin.

Actually, two more things on Dovahkiin:

1) Could be Rathalos as an alternative to Alduin, or Ridley if they choose to sequel his trailer

2) If we get Bethesda games like Fallout stuff ported to Switch in this E3 direct.... could mean something.

I actually did discuss the five year plan in my Crash writeup, because as it stands it is the only leak that involves Crash that holds any water.

Based on what we know, there is indeed a five year plan for the Crash franchise Activision mapped out. But what is unknown is the contents. Now, there is that one that predicted Crash 4, but that was basically a given and leaked multiple times before. If anything, stuff like the cancelled cartoon and Wumpa League show that the five year plan that we heard of is not gospel. Does Crash have a five year plan? Yes absolutely, that much we know. Does that plan involve Smash? There is no way of knowing right now.

This would be really stupid, but a Skyrim trailer that started with the "So you're awake" text on screen and a POV view of the carriage... only to reveal the other person on it is Rover, and its actually a ride to an Animal Crossing village that's somehow inexplicably gotten attacked by dragons would have me saying its the best E3 presentation ever.

Dovahkiin would be a based E3 Smash reveal too:
-Many would consider it to be left field
-NOT sure how Doomguy fans would react
-Skyrim WAS one of the first third party games to ever get a Switch port.

I could see it.

Todd Howard: This ramen, it's flavor just works.

About the Crash 5 year plan:

I find it ODD that it's not a 6 year plan, cuz 2016 was the year Crash came back.

His Skylanders Imaginations appearace
2016 was the year N. Sane Trilogy was revealed
But maybe 2016 was just a starter to what would become the subsequent planning that "is" the 5-year plan

Honestly, I'm just excited to have E3 back again. Seeing everyone gather together to see who a Smash character is (potentially for the last time for Ultimate) is such a refreshing feeling compared to the crazy mess that was last year's speculation.

Like...I'm happy with whoever it is, I just wanna see something new and see people excited.

Low chance, especially cuz look at how we ONLY got FFVII content and not from the other games, but imagine if we get Dovahkiin and SOMEONE we get spirits and stuff from not just Skyrim but the previous 4 Elder Scrolls games

While I am happy E3 is back, I do think that it needs to innovate and change to keep up with the times. E3 in many respects is kind of a dinosaur right now. I would not be surprised if we have a "last E3" in the next five years.

I just spent the morning making a mockup for a Cave Story stage, and I'm rather proud of it, so I'd like to share. Also, I think the point at the bottom about artstyles might be worth some fun discussion (not just for Cave Story, but any game with a retro artstyle).
I made a mockup for what a Mimiga Village stage could look like.

(Note: the roof of the house is a platform.)
Also, a thought: back when we were discussing Quote on the Character Exploration Thread, it was brought up how many potential artstyles there are for a Cave Story stage, and I think that's worth discussion.
  • Retro: Keep it in the original pixel artstyle, a la Duck Hunt or Mario Bros.
  • In-Between: Use a modern 3D artstyle, but keep the village’s color scheme and design the same.
  • Modern: Redesign the aesthetics to look more modern (maybe resembling the Cave Story 3D version).

Y' know, I think Todd would be on boardwith Skyrim in Smash.

As in, not Dovahkiin. Skyrim. It's booted up straight fron the CSS and your save can also be accessed from WoL. :4pacman:
Skyrim would presumably have a 100 % winrate online (since I presume you gotta beat the game to win) - even if the other players were speedrunners the fastest speedrun is ca. 23 minutes and you only have 7 max online. :4pacman:

That's how you win the speculation game. You keep telling yourself that your favourite is next and when it does happen...
It's happened to me 4 times already!

Can't wait for Hayabusa next week!

Semi-hot take here, but I think a good chunk of the reason people (not just here, but in every part of general Smash fandom) are so quick to call first-party characters "disappointing" is because there's so few viable candidates left, relatively speaking, and there's not a single one that doesn't feel like they've been discussed to death.
Not that hot. All of the really good Nintendo characters are already in Smash.

There are a lot more interesting 3rd party characters left that are just more exciting than Nintendo's D-listers.

Question: how would you guys feel if Rayman took Steve's place as CP7?
Like...now? Highly confused.

I feel like everyone always mentions Bandana Dee or Dixie Kong when Cranky Kong and Mr. Resetti are easily important.
Spoiler Alert: None of them are important.

Animal crossing child here, the damn mole annoyed the **** out of me as a kid and stressed me out from his yelling and lecturing, never letting me go until I "Repeat after him" like he is my parent or something. He can stay gone
If you just play the game right, he does.

Multiplayer is tame. It's story mode that can get more bloody/etc. Not that much of it would show up in Smash, so it wouldn't be an issue anyway~

Ridley's usually used as the big bad dragon stand-in for most cases like Medeus, the Dark Emperor, and the Ender Dragon for Spirit Battles. So I think he'd be used for Alduin since while he's not a Wyvern like Rathalos, he's probably the most similar of the options in terms of color scheme and role.

Also his UAir is the Skyrim icon, obviously they would not ignore that coincidence.

The "You're awake" meme but in Animal Crossing text boxes and language? That'd actually be amazingly hilarious, especially since it wouldn't make it immediately clear who the newcomer is right or even that it's a Smash trailer until the inexplicable dragon attack on the Animal Crossing town.

Wait actually?
Oooooh, interesting, I didn't know that.
Yeah. I'm sorry I don't have a link to provide to corroborate things, but people were noting twitter went down right before the reveal. The two just happened in quick succession so people (including, I guess, Sakurai) thought one caused the other.

Luke, an ordinary police officer and/or "Phantom Thief Beast" Aaron from Buddy Mission: BOND.

E3 is the perfect place for Nintendo to announce an official English localization of the game coming to the western market alongside these character(s) becoming fighter(s) in Smash. I am also excited to see a potential Smash animated trailer done by Yusuke Murata, the artist behind Eyeshield 21 and the visual for One-Punch Man in Weekly Young Jump.

For anyone curious about the music, there are 48 potential tracks that they can pull from the game. Here, are some samples from the official CD soundtrack.
Aw, heck. Why not? If Kyle Hyde isn't happening anytime soon, then I guess I can work with Luke and/or Aaron.

That's hilarious, I've always used this as a point to how big the reveal was.

Doesn't diminish the reveal at all, mind you, but it's still super funny to me how often I cited this as being an example. :p

Same, but not only for our Smash reveal but for E3 in general.
I'm one of those that thinks that feeling excited when E3 is around the corner is totally okay, like, I'm not even saying we should have super high expectations. Just be kinda happy and excited. If E3 ends being bad or disapponting that's okay, I'm not going to die and I'd rather have some hopes instead of being very gloomy about it when watching the E3 presentations.

If I get some cool announcements that appeal to me, cool, that would be great for me. If not, at least I had a good time because I like videogames en general, and it's also cool to see other people excited for games or announcements that might not be for me.

So for Smash I just want to see who is next. As long as the character brings something cool I'm completely okay with it. If I'm lucky and I get one of my MWs I'll be very happy, if not... I'll also be excited because for me a new Smash character is always great.

Basically, I feel like it's cool to be hopeful and excited about E3/Smash news. It's a nice feeling. Just don't exaggeratedly overhype yourself or be super invested on it because if you end not getting what you desire you're probably going to act very pissed about it and end ruining the fun for other people.
