Videogames are now the world’s fastest growing and most profitable entertainment media,
with Canada being home to some of the most successful game developers in the world. This
course will introduce students to the critical analysis of videogames as cultural texts. Its central
theme will be how games balance the competing requirements of telling a good story,
immersing players in virtual worlds, and allowing them to interact with these narrative
universes. Students will explore this theme in relation to the formal and aesthetic properties of
videogames, the conventions of the major game genres, the strengths and limitations of games
as a storytelling medium, the medium's relation to literature and other arts, the concepts and
dynamics of interactivity and simulation, the influence of gaming culture on game design, and
the growing body of gaming theory and scholarship.

NOTE: This is NOT a course in game production or design. Students need not have previous
training in media technology and game physics.

The thing is,you can pour more hours into skyrim than the courses length easily

I sunk 250 into Skyrim without doing any modding (Xbox version).

Of the other ones, have already completed Portal 2, Bioshock, Dishonored, Mass Effect 3 and the Walking Dead.

Been looking for an excuse to play Bioshock Infinite, got it over the Black Friday sale.

Infinite's soooooo good.

It's gotten some backlash since its first couple months after launch, but I still love that game as much as I did the first time I beat it. Probably my favorite home console game of the year.

Throw Assassin's Creed, Dark Magic, and Bethesda gameplay into a cauldron and Dishonored is what pops out.
