Can't breathe, but the view is equal to the taste
Iunno, I really really really like HAVING something. Books, lil statues, games, everything. E-readers kinda **** on that.

Also I prefer reading on paper. Turning pages, book smell, etc. ;-;
Obviously. From illiterates to literati, we're all book fetishists at heart. And even while I lament the size of my own physical game library, and while I'm designing games to be sold through a digital medium, I still scoff at digital games by major publishers down to the next-to-nothings. But this has nothing to do with the very practical points I brought up.

Get an e-reader. Best purchase I've made in a really long time.

Nabe speaks truth. I'm the same way Xonar. I put off getting one for a long while for those reasons, but it was really worth getting one.

Huh, pretty long link. Thing is very slim, very portable, and the screen has the authentic paper look. It personally bugs me sometime reading on computer screens so I love the way they make these.

so i just finished Bastion.

I don't really know how I feel about it

I mean, I enjoyed it. I'm just not sure what of I think of it, both as a game, and also in terms of the story.

I should elaborate. spoilers?

For instance, the proving grounds/training areas. I thought they were cool at first, but then they kinda turned into a chore. I also felt they didn't fit that well with the rest of the levels/story. For a weapon I didn't care to use... there wasn't much incentive to visit them.

And that story. I guess i'm mostly just confused by some of the character's motivations, particularly Rucks and Zia. Like... Rucks just to be consumed with the need to rebuild the Bastion, but not really have an opinion on anything else. And Zia just wanted to get away from everything...?

*shrug* I almost feel I should replay it to see if there's some things that I missed.

It depends entirely on how you define "art". If you're all strict with how you define "art", then yea, I guess it's impossible. If you really think that, though, you may want to rethink your definition of what "art" is. Musicians make a hell of a comfortable living off their art. Even the Penny Arcade guys make a pretty decent living. Michael Bay? Yea, I'm sorry to tell you that what he does for a living is art. Just because it's not good, doesn't make it "not art", and he makes a buttload of money.
Yeh but there's still the conversation of what a good artist is and Michael Bay doesn't belong there in the slightest.

Graphics Design, working with Photoshop and Illustrator to create things like advertisements and logos. It can be broader than that and I've also designed Menus, CD Covers, etc.
Out of all artistic career paths, you've chosen one of the most profitable ones. There's such a need for Graphic Designers everywhere that you won't have much of a problem with it at all.

Unlike me.

Yeah, that's Kentucky for you.

Referring to earlier since, why not. I always thought about getting an e-reader... probably won't though. Even compared to e-readers, I don't really mind reading on laptops or grabbing a book to read on transit/travel. I kinda feel the same about the potential of getting a tablet. I have a laptop that i take literally everywhere and I have an iPod type of thing, so the hybrid isn't exactly useful for me.

YMMV though, so if it's something you think you'll use... why not?

So I've been giving Microsoft the benefit of the doubt for the past couple of weeks, but, after that press conference, it's hard to argue that Sony isn't running away with the whole damn show right now. No online requirement, no authentication/used game hoops to jump through, games (plural!) that I actually want to play right now, hardcore commitment to indie devs and all for $100 less than the Xbox One?

I don't know what deal they made with the Devil to make the logistics of all of that work, but I'm sold so far.

Nintendo's playing a totally different sport, as far as I'm concerned. They already have my money, they just need to release the right games before they can have access to it.

But I'm almost certainly going to get only one of the consoles between PS4 and X1, and tonight just pushed my lean toward the PS4 even further.

Smash boards is reminding me that Nintendo is going to reveal a the new smash bros. trailer, and I didn't even know that was going to be a thing.

It's been a long, long time since I've actually been curious about a new video game.

I think it was only revealed a day or two ago that there would actually be a trailer reveal, rather than just screenshots or whatever. I still expect something pretty brief and unsurprising (Mario's fighting Kirby again! Mario's overalls look more overall-y than ever!). But I'm still pretty excited.

I don't know much about the PS4 yet, but it seems like Sony has learned from pretty much every mistake they've ever made, PS3-related and otherwise

meanwhile microsoft was apparently secretly bought out by EA Games, because how does all that not sound like the console EA Games would build?

also nintendo is weird. they've almost become the new Sega or something, as a half-step between console generations (see: Genesis, Saturn, DreamCast) instead of a frontline competitor. It's too bad that the WiiU has, if I understand its specs correctly, basically become the PS4 and X1's Wii equivalent, as I'd have actually really considered getting one instead of a PS4 or X1 if it was going to be getting the damn multiplatform releases again and not just working on its own kind of thing almost exclusively

EDIT: Seen that trailer. It's neat and all, but if Sony wants to lock in my money through espionage they should be resurrecting Syphon Filter not making the MGS game Kojima once said wasn't going to happen

Excited to see what Nintendo brings out this morning. I didn't think Sony was going to do as well as they did this conference and I expected that Nintendo would drop a bunch of big titles and upset everybody. The timing to show off the games would-be Wii U owners have been wanting to see is definitely correct. My expectations might be too high, but I expect Nintendo's conference to be fantastic.

Sony's conference legitimately surprised me in really good ways, multiple times.

Did not expect to see a new IP that would immediately hook me (The Order: 1886). Did not expect anything about KH3 at all. Did not expect the box to actually be $400 (was thinking it would hover somewhere around $500, maybe north or south of that by $50 at the most; I'm sure Microsoft felt safe with their price point). Did not expect so much indie love. Did not expect Sony to be able to flat-out glass jaw Microsoft on the DRM and always online stuff.

Pretty much the only thing from Microsoft's show that piqued my interest was that Sunset Overdrive game. And Project Spark looks interesting.

What's the Order, Jerkus? I'm guessing 1886 is the setting, so I'm already kind of interested. Honestly one of the big things that spooks me off this generation of gaming, in addition to Xboner BS, is that there aren't really any IPs I care about anymore. Condemned, Mass Effect, Splinter Cell and probably some others I'm forgetting all went to hell in the name of the almighty Lowest Common Denominator, and various other IPs I liked are either dead or concluded.

This makes me wonder if there are even any IPs I will care about anymore or if it's time to drop 40 bucks on a Wii, emulate like mad, and get all the stuff from childhood IPs I've been missing out on and rediscover some old games

If the above post sounded like "if you've seen IPs you think I would like please let me know" that's because it's exactly that, haha.

Though I did just remember the Arkham games, those are going to be great. And if Man of Steel is a big success I'd bet dollars for dimes that WB will immediately start leaning on Rocksteady to break the curse of bad Superman video games. That's one IP and one imaginary hypothetical IP that could come up in the future though, lol

Basically looks like an AU, steam punk, 19th century London where you're a werewolf/demon/zombie/monster hunter? I don't know. I just see amazing facial hair, a gun that shoots electricity and an implication of squad mechanics. And I'm all about it.

wow that MGS5 trailer. Damn they like going overboard don't they. Could be really good though.

Not excited about anything enough to be buying a new console though.

We'll see. I don't think I've seen one stand-alone system seller (at least not one that will be out any time soon), and I don't think there's anything that will be available in time to make this a Day 1 purchase for me, but I can definitely see myself picking up a new box next year. Like I said, The Order has my attention, so I'm interested to get more info on that. Infamous is going to be good. Destiny and Watch Dogs look promising and seem like they'll probably only be worth playing on a next gen console. I've had my eye on Transistor for a while. if they can get FFXV out next year....

I'm seeing a lot of potential.

oh gawd FFXV... man I remember when FF was a JRPG :p

I agree that there might well be enough cool stuff to justify getting a new box... i'm just not in a hurry.

also, watching trailers has me feeling sorry for whoever came up with the idea of leaving comments on a video.

@Jerkus: I was going more for anything cool homies would think EE in particular would like, which i bother to elaborate since you mentioned FFXV heh, not really my bag of ponies. Though I'll check those other ones out. I know Watch Dogs looks ballin as hell and right up my alley (Person of Interest the video game) but I only just found out 20 min ago it's for the nextboxes which is uuuugh. Nothing about it seems to demand that imo. Like if it even can run on currentgen, what's the nextgen gonna add, flashier graphics? Maybe bigger areas with less loading? I can't really think of obvious and immediate improvements that we didn't already make last time. Transition-generation games are so weird

Currently my only "oh god yes" has been Mirror's Edge 2 but I can count the number of nexgen games I know about on 1.5 hands probably

Bracing for Smash hype explosion.

Pretty much echo'ing the thoughts on Xb1 at this point.

It's to the point that I DON'T want them to have any good exclusives because then I'd want to buy one.

Also, super glad Circus likes The Order, that immediately had my interest as well.

PS4 looks really promising. Whether I'll buy it or not will largely depends on their commitment and support towards indie games.
