I would think it would be pretty easy to advertise the game with very little overhead since a lot of sites generate revenue through ads alone. Just release a demo to them and they'll promptly put it up. For big porn media sites like *******, submitting clips would generate a lot of viewer interest over time.

But yeah, unless you have a dedicated artist, it would be difficult. You really need the right kind of person for the job, lmao

Does anyone here have access to the Megaman Legacy Collection leaderboards? I have it on 3DS, which doesn't have leaderboards, but was curious of my rankings for a few of the challenges.

MM1 Robot Rush - 1:08:06
MM2 Robot Rush - 1:12:68
MM3 Robot Rush - 1:26:56 (this one can be improved by a lot)
Dr Wily Forever - 4:28:11

MM1 Robot Rush (no items) - 2:07:83
MM2 Robot Rush (no items) - 2:55:08

Teach me Overswarm Overswarm !

New challenge:

I've been promised a technician for the past 5 days in a region where Comcast is the only real cable option. No one has come and they've even claimed to have come once during a timeframe that I was in the front yard with a book.

How do I get service again?

Call and schedule an appointment and pretend you haven't contacted them before, start from scratch.

What were you reading?

@ Everyone: In regard the "no use of code" rule in mafia, how would you draw the line between code and bread crumbing? In other words, how would you define the two terms and what are some examples of each?

I'd say if the code required a cipher, it's rule breaking, or if it's nonsense (immediatly dat evacuate deed inner, every second letter =maven) then it's rulebreaking. Though as a mod I'd probably only really care about the first one and just tell the second one to cut it out.

I think bread crumbing is fine. If you ban bread crumbing (there's a guy on MS who does) then scum can just signal in other ways anyway. Everything is subjective, and we speak through symbols. We only know how to communicate since we learned the meaning of this language. This language is a code in itself which we decipher with our knowledge of the language. Scum and Masons can speak private and create a new meaning for anything and no one else would know and it wouldn't be a problem since those peeps can talk privately about those matters.

Bread crumbing allows for realization if you have information -- e.g., "You are little miss muffet who sat on a tuffet, town cop!" calling people she investigates as mafia "spiders". Nonsense or just general "I think you're scummy" text to those without knowledge of her role, damning condemnation of investigation if they know the role. That said, it is still not explicit -- it is open to interpretation. It could be that she only said this about people she was planning to investigate, could just be her being thematic, etc., etc. Bread crumbing also requires backtracking like 99% of the time.

Code is explicit, but only allows for realization if the "key" or cipher is known. E.g., if I start typing binary then only people with access to a binary translator will know what I mean but everyone who does will know exactly what I mean instantly. No backtracking is required.

I was reading some Robert Jordan.

As long as information is realistically available to everyone (breadcrumbs can be found realistically imho), then I think it's fair game.

Something that I think would be unfair would be a player posting a code that only one other player would feasibly know how to solve. I would almost equate it to speaking in a language that no one else can understand except only one other player in the game. This mode of communication inhibits every other player from being able to discern the interaction more clearly.

Now to release those extra sweet concept arts as early access and rake in the money!

What's your game?
Cogito, a VR puzzle game. Steam store page should go up sometime next week, hopefully. I hope to beat Civ VI >_>

It's phase 1 of my super secret master plan:

  1. Make and Publish on Steam a smaller, niche game

    -get minimum 100 sales
-work on media, marketing, advertising, etc., to try to inflate initial sales to 3x the amount of the first week's sales over the remainder of a year

  2. Create larger, more in-depth game with the profits from the previous game so that I'm not in debt. Find at least one partner to help me do so. Go into early-access as soon as there is a playable product, preferably within a year.

  3. Using knowledge from first project, create a series of smaller, niche products that are short, cheap, and high quality. Use these to fund development of #2 game.

  4. Savings + Profit from games from #2 and #3 should hopefully reach $50k after tax within 3 to 5 years, depending on release schedule. Pay off house with savings + gameDev income within 3 years, possibly 5 if unlucky, greatly reducing expenses and being able to live off of ~$500/month at a high quality of life if need be.

  5. Re-evaluate current employment, determine if financial independence / retiring early is an option if I focus my creative energies on game development.

  6. Once FIRE, work on labors of love and use profits to enjoy life and not have to work a normal job.

Do you have any need for an artist? I have a friend who graduated from Full Sail with an art degree, he's currently going back to college at Ringling to focus on making animation/art for video games, I don't know how much he's capable of doing yet, but if you need a cover art or something I'm sure he'd love to get involved.

What kind of art does he do? Any examples?

Overswarm Overswarm He does traditional media, but he's going back to college to learn computer animation/graphics. I can only show some sketches and paintings he's uploaded to facebook, not his best work. I don't know if you'd need traditional media, but I know he wants to break into the industry and if you have need for cover art or concept art he'd probably love the experience. If you're interested I can get you in contact with him for a portfolio.

It might be some time, but I'm looking into the possibility of creating a Dungeon Crawler VR game. If that's the case, a banner image of sorts might be needed.

My goal was just 100 sales -- I believe I'll hit it pretty soon!

I did some of the texturing myself, a lot of it was from the asset store though. Already had to release an update to fix some bugs and already got both a positive AND negative review so now I can say I'm a full-fledged game developer. :)

That right there, if executed well, could put a Vive in my hands.
Current plan is to allow for three forms of movement:

1. Real-world moving around, roomscale
2. Grid based movement option, with settings for how big the grid should be
3. Touchpad walking option, with settings for speed

You'd pick #2 or #3 as your movement option, then be able to move throughout the world. It'd be disabled when a monster entered your play area, so you'd have to kill them in combat.

Combat would be a combination of melee, ranged, and magic.

Melee would just be swinging swords, axes, clubs, torches, etc.

Ranged would be a bow and arrow, possibly some throwing items

Magic I'm still figuring out... could just be you pick a spell, press the trigger to cast it, done. Could also be you have to draw a shape to activate the spell, then can cast it. E.g., draw a circle in the air to cast a healing spell, draw an upside down triangle to shoot lightning from your hands, etc.

I always liked the idea of drawing a shape in the air and then pointing to fire through it or something in that vein.

In any case, best of luck, and KEEP ME POSTED!
