Wenz will take advice from good people. We suck too much.
But that's not how it should be. In general, anyone better than you, or even on/somewhat below your level, can give you good advice. It shouldn't just be Chillin, Redd, and Boss.

I am capable of playing patiently, it's just that in friendlies I want to take advantage of the time and try to get as much practice (that isn't waiting) out of the way. Reminds me of when I used to play Bawrl and some guy would practice timing others out. Granted, this guy is like the kids who like to play Hyrule to maximize their playtime, but I'd rather get a lot done in little time than get little done in a lot of time.
I'm just going off what you said when I asked you about stuff. I thought I asked you about maining Falcon at one point and you told me that you're too aggressive or something

lol Winston, relearn everything? Wavedashing is easy. Put your mind to it and you could get everything down in a couple of weeks. If you honestly think it will help you then I don't see why you shouldn't go for it. I always wondered how you managed to play so well with control stick in the first place.
The reason I put it off is because a lot of the time control stick works perfectly for me. In fact most of the time I think I waveshine better than average with Fox and wavedash better than average with Marth. For example, I just got my gamecube back from Courtyards and today control stick wavedashing feels great and it doesn't feel like there's a problem at all.

This used to make me feel, perhaps irrationally, that eventually I would get consistency down with control stick. And I think it's certainly possible. Basically if

1). I get a ton of sleep and some warmup time or
2). I get some sleep and a LOT of warmup time

I do fine, which is why I tend to do better at nationals than locals imo.

But anyway, you and Redd are right. I'll look into X+R over the summer if I'm still having problems then.

Putting aside the pessimism, this is the **** that helps people get better. Good **** Winston.

But the pessimism is natural. Do you think Dr.PP never had moments when he didn't think he could do it? When he thought he had hit a plateau and didn't know how to get out of that rut? Remember the stonecutter credo:

“When nothing seems to help, I go look at a stonecutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before.” -Jacob Riis

You just gotta keep pounding that rock.
At least I'm trying to work on my attitude instead of throwing my hands up in defeat. ;)
Trying to improve attitude seems like a very intractable endeavor to me, much more so than something like working on tech skill.

HOWEVER I didn't say I was giving up or anything, or you wouldn't see me come to every damn tournament. Having small tastes of success has got me hooked and I'm still trying my best in the way I know how to. That way doesn't involve discarding what I think to be fairly accurate objective assessments of the things holding us back. Blindly optimistic confidence isn't my style. I think about and try to solve problems analytically and this is what I see right now.

The way I worded my initial statement was dumb and I probably should have been more tactful but I guess I felt like getting this stuff off my chest.

Ah, I disagree with this vehemently. You should take advice from all sources as long as its good. Its up to you to determine if its good of course. Just look at every sport; the best coaches generally have little to no playing experience. And if they do, they are almost always not top-level.

Why? You seem to make progress in that category in your next few paragraphs:

This is a winning attitude. If you stick with this attitude I don't think you'll have a problem. And knowing your work ethic, love of the game, and intelligence, I'd say its only a matter of time.

I'm confused, are we disagreeing? I was trying to say that Wenz (and everybody) should take advice from everybody who can offer insight, not just known good players.

Well sure, I agree when you put it like that. But I think a player can be significantly below your level, hell they could even not play Smash at all, and they could still give you great advice.

How could a non-smasher give you advice about smash? Yea there could be advice about your attitude and stuff, but game wise, what could they say? How could some nomad from africa give you advice on smash?

Well, I think you answered your question for the most part. They could give you invaluable advice on adjusting your mindset, possibly better than someone who is more focused on the game. Also, I think you'd be surprised how much they could help game-wise too. Obviously less so than someone who knows the game more, but they could give you general advice ("youre so impatient," etc).

I just don't think its wise to reject advice of any sort because of the source. Rather, just look if the advice is good or not.

yea u can take smash advice from anyone but honestly id rather take smash advice from someone whose proven they know exactly what their doing. chillen, redd, boss, the europeans clearly know this game as they are some of the top players hence why i value their input more.

WHAT THE HELL MAN! I'M YOUR FRIEND! ENCOURAGE ME! how much support does PP get from the south! and I can't even get positive support from my own friend. This is shameful and stupid. We need to cheer for each other, get each other hyped. We need to support cyrain, our best player who's a few steps away from being tops, at nationals instead of acting like *****es. From now on, Md/VA over out of state blindly. This is myself included, we need to always say we **** and everyone else sucks, even if we know it's not true.

And I mean Travis and Winston and Wenbo and all you silent losers who don't cheer.

Myself included.

This game is fun, we need to have a good time, have a ball.

We need to develop redd into a ****** beast who pillaged booty holes and smokes a cigarette afterwards saying "And now you know douche." Everyone helps everyone else get BETTER now. No more putting people down, no more competitiveness internally, have fun, have at it, have sex with hot chicks! If you see talent, you welcome them and develop them.

We need to be positive, and stop bickering and stop worrying about money.

Issue 3 Legistic Support: We need to start worrying about money!

Laijin and I are getting cars soon, and if richmond comes up we should make things cheap for them because of gas prices. But why should Richmond come up when we suck at everything because we're *****es?! We need to activate awesome mode!
Thats funny... the first time i ever met you, all i could hear while playing my first round match was you talking about how gay jiggs was.... then you played me and camped the **** out of me with doc, and afterwards apologized for playing so gay, but i mean its just jiggs right?

You then talked more about how easy she was and how she should be banned or something....

Way to support me bro.

And the great Chivalruse, all i did was jokingly say that I would **** the MD crew and you took it to another level, bashing me for losing to voodoo, and trashtalking me on a livestream when i didn't say anything about you....

Then you didn't show up to any tourneys i was at so that i could give you your precious mm and then i missed one because it was a SMASHFEST that my friend didn't want to drive 4 hours to go to, and you said i was avoiding you.....

Then i played you at Pound 5. I asked you if i could go Falco game 2 and you said you wanted to play my jiggs because it was a pride match, so i did and I beat you making it a 2-0 win in our money and pride match....

but I know you have some john lined up for that because you didn't seem very happy when you lost.

I really wanted to practice some stuff against you because i want to learn the matchup and mabye one day beat chudat, but i can't because i don't want to deal with your attitude.

I'm sorry, but this region is full of hypocrites....

Everytime i try to play you at tech Redd, you make me feel really uncomfortable because you say **** like "Jiggs sucks the fun right out of this game", "die in a fire jiggs" and call everything i do gay.

You guys just make threads like this to make yourselves feel better, the only people that don't john that have posted in this thread are like Me, thumbs, wenbo, vist, bones, and winston (he does john, but not to avoid learning and becoming better)

I can play patiently. I just hate to do it. I'm just not a "play to win" people. I'm a "play to play." If I wanted to win, I'd "win to win."

Dude I dunno when I ever said that more than any other regular melee player LOL, only say it when I get mad at myself for missing u-throw DIs. You shouldn't feel awkward lol plus you never hit me up anyways... it's okay though I'm home for the semester. But yes, Jiggs is gay. But at least I don't camp her.

So Mahone, you take a thread thats supposed to be all about how we should be loving and caring about each other and start up a bunch of ****. Sure, Justin may not be the best role model for this but that doesn't mean his heart wasn't in the right place. I think the concept of this thread is a good one at the very least.

I john?! The only thing I can think of is when I say "man, I am playing so poorly" but I don't think thats a john...thats just me wanting to get more consistent.

Mahone, I didn't have johns or a bad attitude after losing the money match to you. I was just flustered because I had a huge lead and lost it when you landed a clutch rest, which is NORMAL.

Why does everybody always exaggerate so much? It's kind of childish, seriously, guys.

Anyway, I admit that I'm a hypocrite sometimes, but I'm truly trying very hard to practice the things I preach, so cut me some slack, people!

Jiggs is one of my fav characters to play. We need to play a ton at Sypher's this week Mahone. Also, the reason you are bothered by people johning about Jiggs is because unlike myself you do not have a trash talk troll attitude. When you hear someone go "Jiggs is SO ***," you have to just REVEL in that ****. It should be one of the greatest feelings you get playing competitively. Unfortunately, that's also why I am sometimes a **** cause I love trolling, but if you can keep it just to the game you'll find yourself doing much better when people start *****ing. If someone calls me a laser-*****, I ***** lasers 10x more. If they john about missing techs, I dair them all day. In the end, just don't take it too personal. They are, after all, johning about your character and playstyle, not you as a person.

As far as the people actually johning, obviously it's just a lack of self-control, and I think most people get that because no one is perfectly in control of johning, but next time you notice your opponent's gameplay pissing you off, COUNTER IT. NO JOHNS, mother****er! If you think Jiggs is so ***, make it impossible for her to hit you. Space everything perfectly and turn that hatred for uthrow rest into an ability to focus on DIing uthrows every time with perfection.

But yeah, everyone needs to stop (as Plank would say) being drama llamas and just step it the **** up. That's the point of this thread, right? Step it up both in terms of playing better and in terms of being good TEAMMATES. That's how you SHOULD think of everyone in MD/VA: as teammates that you scrim against to help each other improve. No one ever wins the blame game, so everyone needs to just drop any current beef.

i approve of this post more than id care to admit lolol.

also smash community as a whole needs to stop johning bout jiggs, she really isnt broken at all. id rather play a jiggs then say a sheik or a good falco(*thinks bout how many times redd has 4 stocked me with his falco on FD lolol*) any day no matter what character im using. i still dont understand why people think jiggs is so WTFHAX... in singles. If you wanted to make a case for doubles id be all ears lolol.

Yeah guys, the johning and hypocrisy need to stop. If you only knew how much I mess up in tournament, and I still tend to do ok for myself. Nerves get to me and I mess up a lot more than you'll ever know, but I don't care. I just continue to play and shrug it off. You don't need to voice it ALL the time, anyone watching your match can see if you ****ed up royally and will know you're off your game. Just be better in the future as Hova used to say

If you're losing to yourself and not your opponent, you need to adapt a more laid back mindset. Just play your tourny matches like they were friendlies. Play for fun, do fun things, and perhaps you'll perform better.

Also, just going to make a statement in general, but all the cockiness from anyone has to stop. And usually, the cocky players are also the hypocrites LOL two things I cannot stand. Be kinder to people that may be worse than you, play friendlies with everyone even if you don't like their mains. In order for the region as a whole to improve, everyone needs to play everyone. This H2YL bull**** of leaving right when the tourny is done isn't gonna cut it. I remember before they were like "this region needs to step it up" and then when they got their money they would leave instead of playing friendlies so others could learn LMAO it's that kind of hypocrisy that needs to go.

tl;dr Be a better human being

LMFAOOOOO one of my finest johning moments. Your counterpick was the ultimate mindgame, and it thrust me into a frenzy of angry outbursts. Looking back, I only wish I could have stalled on picking a character longer, and then choosen metaknight against you :p

You know what i did instead of make this thread Crimson?

I played with you on two occasions in the last 3 days. I played teams, singles, talked about players, improvement, etc. and had fun with you and boss and ck.... sounds like a lot of what the OP says.

How many times has voodoo posted since the OP?

Did he come to any syphers? I went to Maryland on Saturday even though i didn't feel like it, because i feel bad that i always just expect them to come down to VA.

How many times has H2YL said this same bull****, only to come to tournies, split, and leave without playing friendlies?

It is a good concept, which is why i brought up all this ****. I totally agree with winston... I don't want to just lie to each other forever so we can all stay garbage forever. I want to solve some problems so that we can grow as a community... isn't that a better concept?

You don't john, i forgot you.

It's cool man, i can tell you're a good person, and i understand how frustrating jiggs can be, i just want to put all this trashtalk/rivalry **** behind us, i really don't care if im better or worse than you, both of us should just be focused on improving, and i don't need conflict to do that.

Jiggs is one of my fav characters to play. We need to play a ton at Sypher's this week Mahone. We'll definitely play at Syphers. You can ask Thumbs, i trashtalk non stop, but when people are getting legitimately upset and not just saying "thats gay" because they think something is stupid, thats when it bothers me. I don't care when Thumbs trashtalks because i know he is just giving me ****, and when a crowd is shouting jiggs is gay or something, i know they are just trying to root for their friend.

It's more about when people are getting legitimately mad, because then i am not having fun playing and i can't help but feel awkward.

Guys calm down, just play the game. The more you play and the more you get *****, the more you improve.

Also you should probably be talking about this to each other in person, not on the boards.

Then again I've been booed at twice so IDK how much you value my opinion. I also suck at smash bros...

Am I the only one who thought Hbox was gonna switch to Sheik or Marth or something after he went YL in Game 1? I know he hasn't used any secondaries in tournament before, but he had to realize the same **** that happened in Game 1 was gonna happen in Game 2.

I agree with this **** so much. Thats why my first post in this thread said "I'll believe it when I see it." Its like all the good players want higher attendance so they can make more money but they don't want to put in the effort to make it possible. Its a completely different mentality from other regions...

But whatever, even if they never change their habits all of this will be solved when I am the best player. This **** won't fly on my watch.

Pffft he just takes pride in his main! Plus, I'm sure he thought it'd be an easy win on FD...

word, you'll be there soon, just keep training with richmond.

Ya, tbh, hbox's secondaries suck and that matchup is good on fd so i wasn't suprised at all.

see the problem with that is

1) Hbox's secondaries are not even close to the same level his puff is.

2) Switching characters to like sheik doesnt solve the problem in the long run. If Hbox wins game 2 then he has to make a decision to stay whatever character he is using or go back to puff. He goes back to puff Armada stays ylink and gives him the business. If he stays with his alt then Armada goes peach and gives him the business. Either way it was a lose lose situation in the end.

I'd call college johns to excuse my not going to events, but I'm pretty sure every other CP smasher has the same **** going on. I'll try and go to more events I guess.

Also, there were a bunch of people supporting me during first round pools at pound and I feel sort of bad for not returning the favor. I'm a ****ty cheering squad but I'll try and get hype next time I'm watching someone I know playing.
