Winston
Smash Master
But that's not how it should be. In general, anyone better than you, or even on/somewhat below your level, can give you good advice. It shouldn't just be Chillin, Redd, and Boss.Wenz will take advice from good people. We suck too much.
I'm just going off what you said when I asked you about stuff. I thought I asked you about maining Falcon at one point and you told me that you're too aggressive or somethingI am capable of playing patiently, it's just that in friendlies I want to take advantage of the time and try to get as much practice (that isn't waiting) out of the way. Reminds me of when I used to play Bawrl and some guy would practice timing others out. Granted, this guy is like the kids who like to play Hyrule to maximize their playtime, but I'd rather get a lot done in little time than get little done in a lot of time.
The reason I put it off is because a lot of the time control stick works perfectly for me. In fact most of the time I think I waveshine better than average with Fox and wavedash better than average with Marth. For example, I just got my gamecube back from Courtyards and today control stick wavedashing feels great and it doesn't feel like there's a problem at all.lol Winston, relearn everything? Wavedashing is easy. Put your mind to it and you could get everything down in a couple of weeks. If you honestly think it will help you then I don't see why you shouldn't go for it. I always wondered how you managed to play so well with control stick in the first place.
This used to make me feel, perhaps irrationally, that eventually I would get consistency down with control stick. And I think it's certainly possible. Basically if
1). I get a ton of sleep and some warmup time or
2). I get some sleep and a LOT of warmup time
I do fine, which is why I tend to do better at nationals than locals imo.
But anyway, you and Redd are right. I'll look into X+R over the summer if I'm still having problems then.
Putting aside the pessimism, this is the **** that helps people get better. Good **** Winston.
But the pessimism is natural. Do you think Dr.PP never had moments when he didn't think he could do it? When he thought he had hit a plateau and didn't know how to get out of that rut? Remember the stonecutter credo:
“When nothing seems to help, I go look at a stonecutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before.” -Jacob Riis
You just gotta keep pounding that rock.
Trying to improve attitude seems like a very intractable endeavor to me, much more so than something like working on tech skill. At least I'm trying to work on my attitude instead of throwing my hands up in defeat.
HOWEVER I didn't say I was giving up or anything, or you wouldn't see me come to every damn tournament. Having small tastes of success has got me hooked and I'm still trying my best in the way I know how to. That way doesn't involve discarding what I think to be fairly accurate objective assessments of the things holding us back. Blindly optimistic confidence isn't my style. I think about and try to solve problems analytically and this is what I see right now.
The way I worded my initial statement was dumb and I probably should have been more tactful but I guess I felt like getting this stuff off my chest.
