DLC Discussion
1. Braniac
2.Anti-Monitor
this first season is just okay, the best choices are Squirrel Girl, Black Adam, Gambit, Power Girl and Invincible. the okay choice is Mr. Miracle, the meh choice is Kate Bishop (i prefer Clint Barton than Kate Bishop) and the bad choice for me is Scott Pilgrim (i think that any character from superhero comic series as Billy Butcher from The Boys,Spawn ,Judge Dredd or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fits more as guest character,i thought two rules: "just a character originated from a superhero comics can be a fighter" and "cartoony comic characters can't joins the roster")
I do want to shed a little light on this; I think Scott fits in perfectly fine. If this were to be an actual game, he'd likely have a changed character design to fit the aesthetic. Granted, even if that weren't the case and he was presented as a cartoon, I still think that fits just fine.
While our gameplay is very geared towards Injustice, I always imagined our tone and presentation would have been styled after Marvel vs. Capcom, which goes all in on bizarre characteristics (which, of course, is a game where Vewtiful Joe, Phoenix Wright and Shuma-Gorath perfectly co-exist with Ryu, Thor and Wolverine); and honestly, that mindset is probably why a lot of the wackier characters and movesets were voted in. It is a personal view so it likely doesn't translate well as a convincing argument, but that's my two cents.
As the guy who nominated Ant-Man, I kind of feel the same way haha. I've got a soft spot for the character thanks to Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, but I realize that most fans tend to think of him as "that guy who hit his wife one time." (or, if they're only familiar with the character through the Ultimates, an outright domestic abuser - thanks a lot, Mark Millar...) There's more to him than that, of course, but if authors need a source of drama, it's an easy angle to play up. (well, either that or Ultron - other heroes have done much worse intentionally/while in their right mind, but that gets swept under the rug)
Between that, him and Janet missing out on the popularity boom from the MCU, and him being dead/Ultron for the past seven years or so in the comics, I'm surprised that he came in second.
I'd attribute Hank's decline in popularity more due to Scott's rise in popularity, as opposed to the negative connotations of the comics. I think many fans already agree that those representations of Hank are not really what the core of the character are.
With that said, he's still a favorite in many fans' eyes. I think his placement in the Legacy round is both due to how well he fits the category and just the lack of Ant-Man representation in general, which are both fair reasons.
With that said...
There's technically nothing saying we couldn't add Clint as his own character, we'd have to give him some sort of title destination but we do have two Spider-Men
And, this goes for both Clint and Hank; I don't see a real need to have them in the roster in the face of an already existing counterpart, which is likely why Hank lost. And, sure, we could have both of them included, but I don't really think it's actually
worth having two Shrinkers and two Hawkeyes (both with direct relations to eachother) when one is enough to get the point across. There are a lot of other characters in thr Marvel Universe that would be unjustly passed up on if we did fixate on Clint, or Hank, or other characters that full under this category, such as Riri.
Yes, we do have Miles and Peter, but Spider-Man is just in his own separate calibre than the rest of the Marvel Universe, and it's not necessarily the same as having two Hawkeyes.
I mean yeah that could be true, but tbh I never feel that Clint was extremely bulky, and in comparison to other premiere costumes I don't feel it that out of place, however in that case, he could be a skin for Green Arrow instead actually.
I don't really think Clint should be a GA costume either. Honestly, that feels a bit weird, like having Namor as an Aquaman skin, though that is definitely just personal preference.
Out of curiosity, are there any premiere costumes that don't really fit for people? I know I've brought up Sabretooth before, and 1SecondNinja had issues with some of the gender-swap costumes, but I wanted to get people's thoughts on if we should change anything or leave it as it is.
As of now, we've got:
- Superman
- Batman
- Wonder Woman
- Flash
- Aquaman
- Green Lantern
- The Joker
- Plastic Man
- Martian Manhunter
- Green Arrow
- Doctor Fate
- Cyborg
- Spider-Man
- Scarlet Spider
- Ghost Spider/Spider-Gwen
- Spider-Man 2099 (DLC)
- Iron Man
- Wolverine
- Captain America
- The Hulk
- Thor
- Doctor Strange
- Black Panther
- Captain Marvel
- Ghost Rider
- Cosmic Ghost Rider
- Robbie Reyes
- Venom
- Loki
- Scarlet Witch
- Agatha Harkness (old)
- Agatha Harkness (young)
- The Wasp
I figure it couldn't hurt to see if people's opinions have changed or not, or to see what people think about them. (personally, the only ones that I have issues with are Sabretooth, due to the sheer difference in proportions between him and Wolverine, and the Elongated Man, given that he uses his powers in very different ways from Plastic Man, mainly sticking to stretching his limbs/body rather than being a full-on shapeshifter)
I do feel like Monica Rambeau could easily be a separate character (for those who are familiar with One Piece, she's basically Kizaru - she can turn into light or seemingly any kind of energy/radiation), but if it's a choice between premiere costume or possibly not having her in the game at all, I'm fine with her being a premiere costume.
I usually don't really like to go back on voted decisions like this and veto them after the fact - there was an effort made to vote them in the first place, and it's an agreed upon decision already that populat vote should win.
BUT, since this is specifically being asked, I will say a few things. I apologize in advance for the people who's nominations I will inadvertently be criticizing
If we were to cut back on the costumes, and let's be real, we probably should as we have
a lot; I wouldn't have expected to have so many back when I suggested a "2 per character" limit but here we are. But continuing on, if we were to cut down here, I feel as if numerous characters here don't really need the costumes, and also that certain costumes in particular aren't needed.
Plastic Man doesn't really need a Premiere Costume and I already feel like Elongated Man doesn't fit. These two characters have quite the contrast in power usage.
Ma'alefa'ak could easily go; I struggle to see why an average fan would be excited by this costume. Sure, this is a character that fits as a premiere costume, but he doesn't really have any fan backing to actually be one
I'm a bit 50/50 on Grid. I felt like it was already a weird pick for a skin in Injustice 2 and Cyborg doesn't really need to have an evil counterpart.
Fate is just a weird situation to me. Nabu being his own skin doesn't fit to me; He's already a part of the normal Doctor Fate as a spirit within the helmet; and continuing off of that, while the hosts are all different in character, the entity of Doctor Fate is not, so I never felt that the actual dialogue interactions would even be any different than the default
I'm still iffy on Sabretooth; but we did have a specific discussion about him, and he'd likely not be included at all if not as a skin, which would be a shame because Wolverine has a unique trait among X-Men of having his
own unique rogues gallery, which Sabretooth represents, so I opt that he stays.
Strangefate just isn't my preferred Strange skin; I never liked Amalgum so this could definitely be biased regardless. But I do think other options should have been considered.
Kasper Cole is another "who does this excite" decision to me. Killmonger makes sense, he blew up in popularity after the movie; Kasper doesn't really have that fan backing like Killmonger, or even Man-Ape, and I wonder if he should be cut
Mar-Vell and Carol are two characters I'm still not sure on. Carol can be muscular but it's just a vastly different phsyiology to Mar-Vell; Admittedly, it could still fit, but's dependent on how Carol is brought in as a fighter. We never really decided how effeminite Carol's physique would be, and honestly why would we, that seems weird, but this specific example just seems like a little "eeeh, not the
best"
Everyone else seems fine where they are.
Edit: I'd still say Malcom Merlyn should have won instead of Connor Hawke. I feel like people overlooked that option quite a bit
