I believed this required it's own thread as it's ground breaking in a sense.

Here I was looking for information about battle frontier in platinum then I saw battle brain Dahlia, the first black person in a pokemon game. This is big, I was starting to think Pokemon company were completely racist or something :/

See her here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBVIyqVDDa4

I'm glad she's not based on any stereoty...
( Watches he opening animation were she shakes her behind at the camera)
Sigh...never mind...

What do you think? Is this a sign that Pokemon's image will change in the future? This is quite big deal though.

Um...call me crazy, but she doesn't look black to me.

Either way, it's not going to change anything.

Wasn't Phoebe black?

And yeah, this is amazing. But will it change anything? No. I think Jynx scared black people away from the world of Pokemon.

OH MY GOD A BLACK PERSON IN A VIDEO GAME ITS SO AMAZING ZOMG LOLOLOL.

Listen. Your only promoting racism by making a big deal out of this. Pull your head out of your self-righteous rear end. Nobody cares that she's black. Nobody cares that the main characters are white.

Seriously, get over it.

By saying "Will this change Pokemon?" it makes a big deal. A black person in a game =/= massive change, or even a minor change.

I still don't even think she looks black.

I mean, seriously. She looks pale, she doesn't even look tanned, for heaven's sake.

Either way, Skyler's right. Saying "OH MY GOD IT'S A BLACK PERSON!" is only promoting racism.

And Zook, Phoebe was Hawaiian, I'm pretty sure.

I'll use you again.

How do I promote racism? It is a POKEMON game. How many black people do you see? It doesn't bother me if there are none (Jinx wasn't racist) but if someone of a different skin colour appears of course it'll get my attention.

Oh, and how many 'black' people not casted in stereotypicly? Yeah, not many.

Now learn to think before you open your mouth.

Good day to you sir.

You promote racism by making it a big deal. You made a WHOLE THREAD about the first black person in Pokemon when you could very well have just posted it in the Platinum thread. By making like, an alarm because there's a black person in the game, you're only singling black people out and making race a big deal, and promoting the differentiation of black versus white people.

You may not have meant to, and I'm sure you didn't, but it certainly ended up like that.

It's Pokemon companies fault for singling them out. I couldn't care less if there weren't any in the game, seriously.

Racism is someone practicing discrimination onto someone by they're skin colour and acting on it. I haven't promoted stereotypes or practiced positive discrimination towards another 'group' so I'm not encouraging it. Rather your talking about separation of noticed differences. Just from a topic on SB I doubt someone is going to treat someone differently. If they do it's rather from their backgrounds, personality and preset discrimination.

And I said will this change their image, by that I ment as a racist company since the jinx incident.

The exclaimation point was just personal preference. I alway put little signs next to most of my topics even if they're irrelevant to the topic.

On a side note: I hate using the words white and black. Opposites, society have already made their devisions.

He's japanese.

This thread wasn't made so much as an 'Alarm'-thead as a 'Hey, look, a black chick in Platinum. There's never been a black person in Pokemon before. Huh.'-thread.
Your an even bigger idiot then I thought you were before because of this post.

Read all my post then GTFO.

Hahaha! This is why I love the PC.

Sorry, I was just skimming posts. I saw Firus mention something about alarms, and I always need to bash Firus at every oppertunity. I was bored, and to be honest, I don't find this thread interesting whatsoever. I apologize for mucking up your thread with my rubbish.

It's GTFO, btw.

don't mean to continue this, but I don't see her being black, Phoebe was dark skinned and yes, she was Hawaiian. You may not have intended to make it a big deal or racist, but why would the Pokemon company try to make a stereotype?

and yes, don't mean to say anything against Skyler, but he does that sometimes, but if you knew one of our friends he would be laughing in a very annoying way saying this is hilarious and would post something TRULY racist (this friend gets on my nerves.

but now we can all have an intelligent discussion now that we know you weren't trying to be racist.

Xace, MK, how can you guys thing a SPRITE is HOT, that's weird

The Pokemon company hasn't singled **** out. Not having a black character in the game isn't singling them out, because they're not saying "Look at all of the white people!", but you are saying "Look, it's the first black person!"

You're not promoting discrimination, per se, but you are promoting a large separation of the two. You shouldn't be colorblind but making an entire thread about the first black person in a Pokemon game is a little much.

If anyone still thinks of them as racist from the Jynx incident, they're idiots anyways. The reason Jynx was "black" was because it was a dress with hair and eyes and lips. You see that if you let it faint in Pokemon Stadium. It's nothing more than shade.
Not that many people really care about that, so their image will hardly change

The exclamation point had nothing to do with my comment.

We are nerds. That's why.

To me, it doesn't really matter if she is or not. If more people over-react just like they way they did with Jynx, Dahlia's skin color would be changed.

Like they changed Spenser's (Emerald frontier brain) skin colour in the anime?

@Firust: And there's already a large separation: Black, white. People refer themselves to these words all the time and when they refer to someone it's like: 'that persons white'. When it's just skin colour and not a whole nother type of people.

Still no Mexicans in pokemon. Im waiting Nintendo -_-

Also, it should be noted that a black person in a japanese game is something to point out simply because Japan is made up of Xenophobic *****. Don't believe me? They still have Black Face in japan...you know the "Comedy Style" where someone paints their face black and pretends to be a black person?

Dude, chill out, if he wanted to make a thread about his own skin color and the reference of Dahlia, he could have. He did, and you have to respect his freedom of speech (1st Amendment).

Anyways, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE BATTLE FRONTIER IN PLATINUM <3 <3 <3

People are allowed to make Melee vs. Brawl threads by the first amendment, too. Only, this is a private forum and they're allowed to have any rules they want...

Just because he's ALLOWED to doesn't mean I can't think this was unnecessary. You're countering something I didn't even say...your response to what I said...basically, the only thing I can draw from it is that I'm not allowed to voice my disagreement because HE'S allowed to say what he wants...isn't that contradictory?

I don't HAVE to do anything. And this is not a case of the first amendment.

It's absurd reactions and over-the-top criticisms of people upon posting threads that aren't "necessary" that have driven me away from the Poke Center. It's become a Nazi country.

"YOU CANNOT POST A THREAD ABOUT A CHARACTER IN A POKEMON GAME BECAUSE IT IS NOT RELEVANT TO POKEMON AT ALL!!!"

Come on guys, give him a break. It isn't spam. I actually found this new black character to be quite relieving, as I too have wondered why, for so long, have there been no black characters in the Pokemon games. Of course, my answer is that it's a Japanese game, and I'll leave it at that.

So, to respond to the OP - AWESOME.

I my elf am getting bored with the lack of people in the PC. Most of them....
a) see how empty it is
b) get driven away

I really don't see anything bad about this topic (other then that she looks more brown :p).
Some topics though are very spammy and not needed while others are just normal but get treated bad :ohwell:
